+ -1 moreBob (Service Tech from Rippe) was prompt, professional, and exlpained everyting before and as it was being done. My well was producing black specs in the water and suffered from irregular pressure. He first tested the well tank and after it was found to be good, then looked to the well. Upon removal of the pump a large crack was found in the side of the pump. He quickly replaced it and powered everything up for a test. All tested well and within a hour and a half of arriving he was on his way with my well functioning perfectly. I would highly recommend RIPPE in the future.

Description of Work: My water well system to my house failed to work properly over the past weekend. It seemed to be working intermittently but with periods of not providing water pressure to our sinks, toilets, water softener, etc. After consulting Angie's list, on Monday morning I called Rippe Well Service to schedule an appointment. The man (Tim) who answered my call began troubleshooting my situation over the phone. He surmised that my problem was a lack of air pressure in the water well pressure tank, and he told me that these normally need to be recharged with compressed air every 5 years. I have lived in my house over 10 years and we never had this done, so his diagnosis sounded correct to me. I could hear the well pump running, so I knew the motor was not the issue (although I have heard of well propellers breaking off and the system failing for that reason). Tim continued to describe for me the steps that his worker would take to drain my air tank and refill it with compressed air. He then scheduled me for a time the next morning to have their worker come to do this procedure, and he estimated that the cost would be around $150 (which would also include a new electrical switch box for the well pump system, which is a standard replacement item for a maintenance check). I wrote down the steps he told me and then let him know that I would try to do this myself that evening, and if I was successful that I would call him to cancel the appointment for the following morning. Tim was fine with that arrangement. So I bought a Craftsman air compressor from KMart for $75 (it will pump up to 125 psi) and went through all the steps that evening, which took 20-30 minutes -- voila! My water pressure returned to the house plumbing and I was back in business, at only the cost of the new air compressor! Now I know how to refill the tank next time it goes down, and I have a nice new air compressor for the tires on our cars and motorcycle (at half the cost of a service call and repair). I appreciated having a service company provide me some tips over the telephone at no gain to their company in order to help me see if I could make my own repair, which I did. Next time I do need a professional to perform well work for me, I will give Rippe Well Service a call since they have now earned my trust, and they are a local business to me here in Porter County, Indiana.

+ 0 moreI noticed a small puddle of water along my sidewalk and knew that's where the water line comes in from the well so I called Rippe to have them come and inspect. The guy came out the same day and said that they would have to dig to find out the problem. They came the following Monday as promised and dug very carefully, making sure to not damage the electric lines or the water line. They found a pinhole in the water line and repaired it, all within 30 minutes. The only problem was that they charged me $700 just to dig. The reason the guy gave me was that "they never know what they might find". They didn't find a major issue so I didn't know why I had to pay as much as if they did. Other than that, the service was outstanding. For this price they also replaced the well tank ($300).

+ -1 moreThere was an odd smell coming from the water in the home I just purchased. My inspector said the well needed to be "shocked", which is apparently a chlorination process. I called Rippe Well to shock the well. Basically they have to pour bleach in the well. They came out and did it at the price quoted. You have to wait 24 hours before you can use the water again, and then you have to flush out the bleach in the water for about an hour, but the water does not smell bad any more. I just had it tested and it is all good.

+ -1 moreJust bought a new house that had sat vacant for a year. When cleaning up to move in we noticed we couldn't run more than two faucets and get any volume. Bob came out next day and walked through the system checking. Turns out the pressure tank had leaked out. He refilled the pressure tank and reviewed the system again. Also suggested proper sizing for the tank (provided a quote) and how to flush out the system before we moved in.
