DESIGN CONSTRUCTION NWI INC

They were contracted to build our house. They broke ground in December and did not ever complete the contracted work. It took a subcontractor over 3 weeks to finish the drywall on an 1800 sq ft house and attached garage . The job was terrible. Nail pops, gaps etc. AS a result, the painter needed to do extra work which we were charged for. The siding fell in several areas before the job was finished. In the 6 years we have been here, I have had to repair the siding myself using methods that are all temporary fixes. The entire job needs to be done over. An outside plumber advised us that the pump and bladder are severely undersized and admitted that he was even consulted on it by the contractor. Several other jobs had to be completed by us. We needed to hire an attorney to separate us from the remainder of the contract. Several people who were owed money by the contractor sent us bills for the work we paid Design Construction for. If you choose to hire them, make sure you have insurance and a good lawyer.

Nice enough guy (Michael Lemke) however he was a week late in getting the estimate back to me. When I contacted him he said he was getting on a plane for vacation and would be back in a week. I waited 8 days past his return date and he still has not contacted me. Based on this, I would be extremely apprehensive in hiring him to do any work. I think he would be one of those contractors that never show up an never finish the job.

The structural work went well, except for cracking of grout in the tile around the staircase on the first floor. The work was done between 9-10 years ago and it is difficult to comment with specificity.

Did not perform service.

They were good at structural work. Some of the work they did was good and some of it was just ok. The owner of the company is a nice person who tries to help out by giving jobs to people who really do not know craft which I found out afterwards. The people who he has do the flooring work do not have a lot of experience and sometimes the results are not as good as it should be. This was really frustrating since I had paid for professional work to be done. A couple of years later I had to pay people to come out again and redo the work which should have been done correctly in the first place.

Everything went well. They always arrived on time, cleaned up after themselves, and did meticulous work. Ultimately, it was a great experience.
