For a long time I've known I needed my 120-year-old floors fixed. As the house f.oundation shifted, the original hardwood boards grew creakier and creakier, and I felt so much give in the most heavily traveled section of the living room that I avoided walking there. Paul Scott was recommended as someone with the experience and knowledge to assess the situation and let me know what range of options would fix it. I was very pleased with his professionalism and manner. He recommended supporting the joists with basement floor jacks, and, to my relief, said the floor boards themselves were in good condition. (That had been my worry: that some of the boards under the carpet would need replacing.) He and his team (including son P.J.) tackled the job directly, answered my questions, and were all friendly and courteous. The job went so well that Paul charged me LESS than the estimate we'd agreed upon. I don't know how often that happens, but it's the first time for me: he said he'd planned on more labor time than turned out was necessary, and adjusted the bill accordingly. I would definitely consider Scott & Son for any further work.
Description of Work: Paul Scott and his team shored up my floor joists with jacks and other supports. For one jack, they needed to dig a hole in the dirt floor of my basement and pour concrete; they also pulled back carpet in living room to screw floorboards down onto the new wood braces they installed. A new beam was installed above the jacks, and some duct work and other piping had to be rerouted in order to accommodate this beam.
