If you want to hire an experienced contractor that understands time allowance, costs, and the right way to do things, hire Jack. He finished my kitchen renovation that another contractor left unfinished a year ago. I called Jack to paint, trim down, and install my closet door, properly finish my engineered flooring, including 5 thresholds the original contractor left undone, build and paint all my trim work, including custom made base, window, and door trim to match the rest of my house. Jack finished painting what was left unpainted, filled in nail holes, sanded and painted throughout my kitchen. He installed 2 built-in shelves, 3 door locks, hung 2 heavy mirrors and a coat rack for me. He even stacked 3 cabinets on my back kitchen wall for me to give me more storage. My kitchen is finally completed to my satisfaction, thanks to Jack. I am very happy. Jack is a likable guy. If you are honest with him, he will be honest with you. He is a professional at what he does and it shows. My job took a couple of days longer than estimated, but Jack stayed true to his original cost.
Description of Work: Jack finished my kitchen remodel after the last contractor left it unfinished. He also dry walled and painted my dining room ceiling.
This whole experience was nothing short of a nightmare!! Jack is a smooth talker and will tell you what you want to hear and always has a good lie handy. He makes a habit of at least trying to hook up with the lady of the house. We are out money and nine months of our lives. The bad part is as time goes on more problems are popping up, I guess we'll just have to see what happens. If anybody would like to contact me and discuss the work I will tell you anything you want to know. We do not recommend Honey Creek Contracting!!!!!!!
Description of Work: This whole experience was a nightmare! We hired Jack Denny and his company to build a 700 sq ft master bedroom room addition. The whole project was quoted at 6-8 weeks which turned into 5 months! (and that's only because the contractor quit with the work incomplete) My wife had just had our son 2 weeks before construction started. While I was at work the contractors were constantly in and out of the house. At this point there was no reason to be in the house. A crew of dirty men tracking in and out with a new baby. Coming in to sit on the couch and talk to my wife, eat their lunch, take their morning bowel movements and helping themselves to our drinks in the refrigerator .....I couldn't believe it! With my wife trying to bond with our new son and get him in a sleep routine she began to lock herself in the house the the curtains closed for some privacy. Some days the workers wouldn't show up or they would come late and leave early. One hot day one of the workers jumped in the kids pool with his clothes and boots on and tore a hole in it. We had to take it down. No offer was made to replace the pool. Shortly after that 2 workers quit. The work really slowed down after that. We had hoped the work would be done before my wife went back to work so she could get the babies room done, but there was no chance of that. Upon my wife returning to work and the kids returning to school we told Jack if you need in the house to call one of us and my mother in law who lives 1 block away would be right over. We set up a camera and caught him everyday breaking into our home while we was gone. Hoping that the job would end soon we bit our tongues....hard to do! Items such as a ceiling fan that we requested and was quote was substituted with a much cheaper model. We began to notice large cracks in the ceiling and walls. One day we got a call from our daughters after school. They stated Jack had dug up the neighbors vacant lot and used the dirt to put around our house. By time I got home Jack had packed up all of his equipment and was ready to leave. Having had enough I laid it all out there. The next day nobody showed up for work. I called several times leaving messages asking if the work was going to be completed. My wife texted and said we will take the no response as work will not be completed and we will take legal action. We took Jack to court and he didn't even contest it. He knew he was totally in the wrong. The judge ruled in our favor. We haven't heard anything about compensation and the deadline is close. We have so many damages that need repaired and work that is incomplete. Our son is now 8 months old and still doesn't have his room. UPDATE 02/25/2013 On October 12,2012 We filed a suit against Honey Creek Contracting AKA (Jack and Julie Denny). For the sum of $6000 +79 Dollars Court costs. The charges were filed incomplete work, property damage, missing material, Charged for unaccountable materials, Breaking and entering and unsatisfactory construction. On November 30, 2012 Honey Creek Contracting was ordered by Superior Court To pay us $6000 plus court cos;ts. Honey Creek Contracting had 60 days to pay this obligation. On January 31st., 2013 this payment was not made. A few days later I tried calling Honey Creek contracting to set up a payment plan or something. But was unable to get any response From the owners of Honey Creek Contracting. Now we are forced to take other actions. Funny thing is these people were always there on Friday to Receive a paycheck. And now we are unable to a return on our money. I'll update later with further details from this problem..... Thanks for reading................ Update March 1,2013 We were to appear in court on this date. Unfortunately Jack or Julie did not appear. So now another court date is set again to get our money returned. Update 3-4-2013, Called Honey Creek Contracting today. (Cell phone) And no answer of course. Left a detailed message about MORE cracks appearing in the walls and ceiling. And discussed a message about setting up a paymant plan to get our money back. We'll see if Jack or Julie Denny will return our call....

Description of Work: Don't let the company name intimidate you to call. I first thought the company was too big to do a small job as mine, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the opposite is true. I contacted Jack, the owner, to ask if a load bearing wall in my kitchen could be removed. He came out right away to examine the structure. He took measurements and took them to the engineer's office and a plan was drawn up. He came back the next day to show me the drawing and how a steel beam would rest on my footers to secure the entire structure. Within a week, a plan was drawn up, the wall was torn down, and the steel beam was secured. They were punctual, friendly, knowledgeable, and knew what they're doing. Jack is hands on and was on the job everyday. I thought his price was very reasonable considering the work involved.

He did a good job, but I had a few problems. He did fine, but it took him a long time for him to come back and fix some little things. I asked him to give me bills on a few things and he never did that. He did a good job and I liked his design concept. I wanted the work to be done before my surgery, but it didn't.

The whole process started about a year ago when we had water in our basement after a heavy rain. Not knowing who to call, we called Honey Creek Contracting. They immediately sent someone out because they could hear the panic in my voice and they were on a job site close to us. When they came out, they fully understood how we got the water in the first place and what needed to be done to correct the issue. At that time, they gave us a "patch job" to get us through until we could have the entire roof replaced. Prior to receiving this water in our basement, we had approximately four other roofing contractors out to diagnose the problem. We heard everything from, "there is nothing wrong" to "it is your guttering." After changing the guttering, and that did not help, we were back to square one, that is until HCC came out. Fast forward to today, HCC has been on the job now for four days. Our anticipated completion date is August 25, 2011. You might think that is extremely too much time to put on a roof, but let me tell you, these guys have encountered just about everything that can go wrong! Jack & Tom will NOT cover up something that needs to be redone. They take their time and do it right the first time. They understand that the Manufacturer's warranty that I recieve completely depends on how they do the installation and they will not let you down. When taking off the old roofing, they found that some genius had not used any nails or screws to install our soffit and facia boards. So, when they removed the roofing and got to the drip edge, everything else came tumbling down and it was that way all around our house! Instead of covering up the issue and moving on, HCC has rebuilt the soffit boxes, replaced the facia boards and will be installing new soffit vents! They will absolutely NOT cover up someone else's work, if it is not done to HCC's rigorous standards. They are pulling off our old siding to make sure the roof will drain properly and not get behind the siding and cause our water problem again. If you want someone to come in, do the work, and get out, Honey Creek Contracting and Jack Denny is probably not your best option. They do not leave until the job is completed and completed correctly. In talking it over with my wife (and Jack does not know this yet), when it comes time to redo our kitchen, he is our man! There is not going to be any shopping around for contractors, it is going to be Honey Creek Contracting! Jack and Tom Denny will always be welcome at our house!
Description of Work: The services that were performed included the removal of all the old roofing material on the house, replacing that material with new updated roofing, installation of a ridge vent system, and installation of soffit vents.

Jack disappeared after giving me the estimate and doesn't return phone calls. I called and he actually hung up on us. He won't talk to us. He had spent hours over at my place in giving the estimate. We even met him at Lowe's for the kitchen articles such as cabinets and countertops but now he won't return our phone calls. I have got money sitting in the bank and am waiting to get my house done but he just disappears. It is quite frustrating. He had told me that he would come out in a couple of days when I first called him but he didn't. I called him again and he came out the next day and I showed him the outside work that I needed done so that we could do the painting. We had used his services one time before and he had done pretty good work. He had done everything that he said he would and at the price agreed on. We were happy with everything he did then. I am ready to get $35000-45000 worth of work done and nobody will call us back. I paid money to use the services of Angie's List and called people listed there and they don't call us back. I would tell people that he is not reliable. I think that he picks the jobs that he wants to do and he didn't want to do the work outside the house.
Description of Work: Honey Creek Contracting gave me an estimate for general remodeling. We wanted to add a bathroom and garage and other things. He gave us estimates and design for kitchen remodeling and extension of a garage to make it bigger, and to add a master bath with closet in the back of our house.

The project went great. There were some weather delays but all in all, they finished earlier than I thought they would. The entire crew was professional and hard working. My house was built in 1916 and the roof was in terrible shape. There were three layers of asphalt shingles on top of cedar shakes and it still leaked. I decided to put a second story on but it was proving too much for one person to do. I called around and when I found Honey Creek on Angie's List, he was here the same day to inspect and take measurements. The estimate was prompt as well. The crew came out and re-tarped my bad roof because there were storms coming (before they even started on any of the removal). Everything is great now, I'm at a spot where I can finish the interior and the exterior house. We just had a tremendous storm and there were no leaks! :) I have before and after pictures that I will try to upload so everyone can see how big of a job it was. Including the clean up as the old roof was a lot of material in the yard. After all is said and done, I'd definitely hire them to tackle the projects I shouldn't or can't do. I also highly recommend them for any construction needs. I can't put into words how great of a job they did.
Description of Work: Removal of entire roof. Rerouting of some electric cables. Deck the attic floor. Erect exterior walls. Set trusses and deck. Install metal roof. They essentially turned a one story house into a two story house.

I phoned the company and requested a service estimate. The man responding to the call showed up the next day as promised. He came into my basement and looked at my failing stairs and an area that I wanted to have a wall put in. He stated that "The company (honey creek contracting) would charge too much for the work" and that he had a "guy I can call that can do the work for you much cheaper". I told him I was not interested in having a non reputable source doing the work and I would rather have his company do it. So he stated that he would send me an estimate in the mail and I would have it in a few short days. It has been a month now and I have not heard anything back from them yet and nobody has returned my calls. I am still looking for a contractor to complete this job. I am not pleased and would not recommend these people based upon his attitude towards giving business away from his company, and then not following through with sending an estimate.

I was very pleased with them. They used quality shingles and they taught me a lot of shingles. They said that I had to take all my old shingles off. Some other contractors said that I can just have them, which I learnt should not be done. All the information that they gave me was correct and I was impressed with them.

We had decided to reroof and side our home and had gotten several estimates from other companies, Honey Creek Contracting came out and gave us not only an estimate but advice and ideas as well. Every day they were on site the guys were extremely polite and cheerful. I enjoyed them being there, they were very hard working and patient, never getting angry of frustrated when something went wrong... and with my old dilapidated house there were lots of unexpected problems, yet they tackeled every one with a positive note and a good solution. The job took longer than they expected but they were very detailed and and neat up to the very last moment. To say they left it cleaner than they found it would be an understatement. We are planning to do a room addition in the future and I will call NO ONE else for estimates... Honey Creek Contracting has our business from now on.
Description of Work: roofed, sided, replaced 3 windows and 2 doors. removed 2 deteriorating decks.
Description of Work: II looked in magazines for years to find the perfect kitchen plans, cabinets, appliances, windows, tile, bar and all the neat stuff I dreamed about for the perfect kitchen. When I finally had everything in place, the plan, the money, I needed a contractor to put it all together. I probably had a dozen estimates..all about the same price, but not one of them seemed interested in my life time dreams. My plans were sketched on a notebook that I carried for years with bits and pieces scattered with magazine pictures.I looked at Angies list and found another contractor..Honey Creek Contracting. Oh my god...he actually listened to what I wanted, gave me some ideas that I never thought of, and told me he'd be back with a drawing and some figures to look over. I have never been so delighted in my life, my dream kitchen on paper. The extras included a walk in pantry to die for and a granite bar big enough to sit 8 grandchildren..the perfect work station and here's the kicker.. to keep my walls TV free, he incorporated 2- 32" flat screen TVs, back to back into my granite bar. It raises and lowers with the flip of a switch..you can't tell it's there unless you raise it up. My cherry cabinets have glass tops and shelves, he put lights inside each one..the best night lights anywhere. I have the grandest kitchen I have ever seen, and my friends are jealous and in awe of it everytime they come to my house. As far as the actual construction..it was quick and cleaned up every night. The workers were polite and joked around with my family. I couldnt be happier and thank them for all the hard work. I will see them again soon as they will be building a laundry-mud room. In closing, I want everyone to know that there are still craftsmen out there..that this company is worth looking into..and thanks Angie for this website.

Their estimate was not the cheapest I got, but a friend who is a retired contractor looked at all the estimates I had and said this one was the most thorough and that he thought the price was in line - that he probably couldn't do it any cheaper and I would invariably end up with some unpleasant surprises from the cheaper ones. Mr Denny was a bit slow in getting started, but it was largely due to trying to juggle projects already started with the excessive rain we were having. I had given him an absolute finish deadline and he had the job completed on time. He gave me all the possible options of how to do each of the three main parts of the jobs and gave me exactly what I asked for - even including a lot of extra work I know he did installing a special antique door I wanted to use between the kitchen and sun porch that didn't fit the opening and for which he practically had to move mountains to find hardware. I was especially impressed with his workers - they were POLITE, no foul language, never smoked where any smoke would get in the house, and when they did have a cigarette outside - THEY PICKED UP THE CIGARETTE BUTTS THEMSELVES!!!! It was obvious one of the workers was younger and less experienced and, as a teacher, I enjoyed observing how Mr. Denny supervised and taught him how to do every aspect of the work. They cleaned up the worksite at the end of each workday. Mr. Denny did a "walk-through" with me to double check that I was satisfied with everything when they were finished. Their workmanship was very good - especially considering they were faced with the challenges of tying new into existing materials. I probably should have borrowed the money to go ahead and replace all the sun porch windows at the same time - that's what he recommended,- but I was determined to stay in my cash budget. He purposely built the wall below the windows in such a way that when I'm ready to replace them, the work will tie in with minimal extra demolition required. I will certainly call him again for any remodeling work I need done.
Description of Work: Major rebuilding of rotted enclosed sun porch wall below an entire half-wall of windows. I didn't replace the windows, (not enough cash at this time!) but they had to replace 2 doors and door frames and completely rebuild the lower portion of the wall, floor sills, etc. Also repaired and reset 4 columns on my front porch, including fabricating new bases for them, and reroofed the sun porch area.
