Response from Ellerman Roofing
The actual price was $99 for the Big Deal gutter cleaning. I'm very pleased he was able to get his money back. The Big Deal does not include removing gutter helmets from a roof and replacing them. This would have taken several hours. I received less than $66 and have sent Angie's List a check for that amount. When I first talked to this customer, he explained that he was disabled and didn't know if his gutters were clogged. I contacted him two weeks ago when I found out he was getting a refund to see if there was anything more my company could do to help. I was never contacted about any real issues with the gutters, but found out my crew caulked a vent on his roof while there. I'm always happy to help someone with limited funds or a disability. Since I lost money having my crew at his house, I'm very disappointed that I received an F grade when he had already been reimbursed and got a free service call for caulking. The only two F grades I've ever received on Angie's List were this fall and both were for the $99 gutter Big Deals on roofs that had gutter guards with nothing in the gutters. The last person had us repair his gutter screens, check the ventilation in his attic and his chimney flashing. He then told Angie's list that no work had been done. After Angie' List refused his demand for a refund, he contacted me again about getting his $99 back. I explained to him that while I would have inspected his attic and chimney for free if he had called me direct, I'd have charged him $100 for a service call to repair his damaged gutter screen. He still thought he should get a refund. I don't need to take work from someone like that and doubt that I'll run into him at an IU Opera performance anytime soon. It's certainly not worth the risk of getting less than an A for $66 from someone looking for something for nothing. Dennis Ellerman
