THOMAS SAFE LOCK & KEY SVC

I called Mr. Thomas a week earlier to request a quote. He said he doesn't give quotes over the phone as he prefers to quote based on the actual complexity of the job, rather than just giving a standard flat quote. This made sense to me, and I appreciated that. He also said that he doesn't charge for a service call, and that he works with his customers so that they I called him again on the afternoon of October 1, 2012 and requested that he rekey my new home. He came out quickly, and was prompt. He spent a fair amount of time conversing with me and my family. He kept stating that it wasn't going to take long at all, and that it would be a simple job, due to the type of locks on the house. When I would ask how much it would be, he said it wouldn't be much at all, but did not give an exact amount. This happened each time I asked how much it would cost. He went out to his vehicle, and came back to the front door. He said he wanted to show me something, and the next thing I know, my front door (handle and deadbolt) have both been rekeyed. He was able to do the same thing with the door into the house from the garage. Because I was unable to locate a key to the backdoor, he had to take that lock apart in order to rekey it, which took longer and was more complicated. In all, Mr. Thomas was at my home for more than 2.5 hours, and charged me $255.50 for the work. The breakdown was $90 for the service call, and $30 for each lock that was rekeyed, plus tax. When I questioned the price he charged, and told him that he was charging almost double compared to the other companies I had contacted, he really didn't have much to say. I admit, I am at fault for not pressing further for an exact amount. Overall, the experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I won't be using Mr. Thomas again for any locksmithing needs I may have. I now know that I could have replaced all five locks completely for less than what he charged.

Thomas is a super reliable person and inspires a lot of confidence. He knows what he is doing. I highly recommend his services.
