Hiring Peacock was one of my biggest regrets as a homeowner. The list of issues since I decided to work with them grew each day that they worked on our project. I hired them even though their prices were higher than most but I was reassured that their craftsmanship and process was above everyone else’s, that they were thorough in the proposal process so they would limit change orders and unforeseen costs, etc. This turned out to be false. I hired them because they were available when my other options were well booked out. -We signed an agreement after meeting with Michael, ones of their sales guys/designers and talking more about our project. This agreement included an estimate of the work discussed including a deposit for the design portion of our project based on this estimate. The price was higher than most but within reason, but he reassured me that they were the best. After going through the process of design and selections, they delivered a final proposal that was well over double the estimate and well beyond reason. They claimed it was because of the design/selections we went with. I questioned why they would show us selections that would put us outside of the estimate after being extremely clear that I was counting on him to help us keep it close, and I never really got a clear answer. Just an attempt to gaslight me into thinking that this was somehow my fault. I was out the design fee if I walked and we decided to cut out most of the kitchen portion of our remodel and focus on the rest of the updates we were contracting Peacock for. The price was still relatively high, but again this was during a time when contractors were difficult to book sooner than later. -I signed not one but TWO change orders during this project, one of which was for drywall I believe should have been covered by our proposal. We talked at length before the project about this particular wall and how the header and drywall would likely need some work. Drywall was in the proposal “as needed” and apparently this wasn’t covered under that clause. I wanted to keep the project moving so I signed it. -They misordered my picture window and it significantly extended my project. -Several times I was told during the course of my project when there were days when nobody would show up, that it was difficult to get guys out here because I’m “out of the way”. Incredibly disappointing to hear considering the price I paid. Not only that, but they would often send helpers or new guys out to work by themselves, they’d do a poor job, and then id have to have someone else come out and fix it. This was true for a good portion of our baseboards and the exterior trim for the picture window and sliding door. All in all, the project manager or general contractor were rarely ever here. I was the one having to check all the work. -The paint job the original painter did was awful. I cannot truly express how poor of a job it was. They got paint all over the crown moulding and our wood beams, sloppy cut-ins, super poor prep. It looks so bad, even after they came in and “cleaned it up”. I was told they are no longer working with that painter. They sent a new guy in to do touch ups after they fired that company, and it did not change the quality at all. There are cracks all throughout where they did not prep correctly, sand old paint that was under the wallpaper they removed, they did not do the drywall as needed to prep the surface to paint-ready as their proposal said they would. After 3 attempts to let them rectify, I have given up. -After my project with Peacock concluded, I started a bathroom remodel with another builder. During the project it was uncovered that we had a slow leak and some water damage that extended out into the hallway and closet where Peacock installed new flooring. I was told by the remediation specialist that this issue had been going on for quite some time, and without a shadow of a doubt that Peacock would have seen the damage while installing the flooring. They did not alert me to this at all and put down the flooring. I notified Peacock of the issue, and they originally told me they would not do anything. I finally got them out here to check out the flooring. Rob argued that his guys would not have installed flooring ontop of the damaged subfloor. I told him it was subcontractors that did our floor and he argued with me again that it was not. I provided photos I had taken of the subcontractors working on our flooring, where you could also see the discoloration along the hallway walls where the water was soaking the subfloor (something I didn’t catch originally because I wasn’t looking for it and only snapped the photo to show my wife the progress). After that, they agreed to take up the vinyl flooring and underlayment they installed in that area, to be replaced by them after remediation. The flooring was already so disgusting underneath and it was clear that the negligence here posed a potential health hazard to me and my family. After remediation was completed and new subfloor was installed, Peacock sent someone out to replace the vinyl flooring we pulled up. After they left, I realized they installed the same vinyl flooring that was sitting on top of the rotting underlayment and put in my garage. Not only that, the re-installation of the flooring and baseboards in this area was done poorly. It’s at this time, I have given up on letting Peacock remediate their poor work. Out of all the issues, this is the most egregious. There are WAY BETTER builders in our area charging reasonable prices for exceptional work. We worked with Capstone on our bathroom this last year and it was an incredible experience. I wish they were the ones to do our project we did with Peacock, but were unavailable at the time.

Never got past the estimate and design phase of the project. As someone who built houses for years this company strikes me as odd. I understand the business and the work involved. We settled on the design and everything was picked out. The original estimate was more than 2 x our original budget. I was told that peacock does not itemize or breakdown costs so there is no certainty as to how your money gets spent. After going back and forth for weeks, I never got an explanation that was satisfactory as to why I could not find out how my $166,000 would be spent. So we backed out of the contract and will find someone else. We lost $900 dollars in the process for the design fee. Overall, disappointing experience and would not recommend anyone that wants transparency in their project.

We appreciate the candid feedback. Our process involves providing a very detailed proposal that spells out each step of the process, materials specified, and other information to describe how we do our work. We also work with our customers up front, often under a design agreement, to provide a firm price for the project based on this proposal. While we try to provide cost guidelines early in the process, we are not able to provide firm pricing until we have gone through the design process. We're sorry that our pricing was not within your budget for this project.

Overview: The work was well done, but it was much more expensive than expected and the overall experience was stressful and difficult. Once the work finally started, the construction manager was incredible. He did an excellent job and listened/responded to our requests and concerned. Getting to that point, however, was not at all easy or smooth. The new bathroom is beautiful but I'm not at all sure it was worth all the hassle and the hefty price tag! 1) When we initially talked with the project manager, she saw no problem with what we wanted, and when the owner, a construction manager, and the project manager came out to see the work site, there was no mention of a problem. However, we suddenly got a letter saying they had decided against doing the project -- no explanation whatsoever. We had to speak directly with the owner to get an answer -- it was not feasible. No discussion prior to their decision. 2) After we changed our plans, they approved the project and we began looking at fixtures and ceramic tiles they recommended. We were stunned when we received the estimate, which was significantly higher than we'd anticipated and provided absolutely no detail whatsoever. We requested repeatedly to have a more detailed estimate, especially of prices for things over which we had control (selection of tiles, fixtures, options) and were finally provided with a breakdown of some of the costs but not what we were after. We had to go on-line to get the prices of the fixtures and visit the distributor to get prices on the tiles (and discovered a vastly less expensive option for the decorative tile than what we were offered at the Peacock office). We also were able to modify our selection of fixtures to less expensive options, but only after realizing the high cost of what they had suggested. 3) They also seem to have a problem with turnover of employees: we started with one project manager, who then left and was replaced with another before the project was even scheduled. Three months later, we noticed some issues with the shower doors and discovered that project manager #2 has also left, so we're dealing with #3. Each has been responsive and helpful, just not long-term! The worst occurrence was when, only 24 hours after meeting with the owner, project manager, and the person slated to do the work (and the evening before constructions was to begin), we were told that the the construction manager had quit that afternoon. As a result, we had a 10 day delay in getting the project started, after an earlier delay of a week. 4) Once the project was started with a new construction manager, it progressed smoothly and the work was done very well -- we were pleased with his work and his oversight of the subcontractors. 5) As others have commented, the owner truly is his own worst enemy when it comes to overall customer satisfaction!
Description of Work: Remodel of the shower in small bathroom -- removing the fiberglass tub/shower and replacing with a tiled shower (enlarged) with dual shower heads and three body sprays, with sliding shower door; new tile on the floor (approx. 4' x 6' area). We did all the painting ourselves and the toilet was saved and reinstalled; no cabinets or sinks were involved.

Contacted Peacock for design and estimate of a major renovation. Design was well done, and original estimate was on target as a starting point. When we began to shape the estimate to meet our budget, the second estimate missed the mark by $30k (high). We again scoped back some of the work, and asked for some details regarding what we were being charged for materials. This occurred over a two month period. We did not hear from them for another week; we followed up and received a somewhat condensending email from the owner (see below) withdrawing from the proposal, after two months of our time and $1,200 spent on the drawings. The owner felt it was unreasonable for us to know what he was charging us for. ?I have reread your emails. Frankly, I get a bad feeling that you think you know a lot more about our own business than we do. We have been in business for 32 years because of our reputation, quality and attention to excellent customer service. Our estimating is processed using previous costs, strong insight to provide a price, to include markup that hopefully is marketable, competitive and profitable. The same formula and principals......over and over. I have advised Nick that we are withdrawing from your project. Scott H. Peacock?

BBB & Angies List Response We, Peacock and Company, provided Mr. and Mrs. [Member name removed] what our agreement stated. We met on a Sunday afternoon August 9, 2015, to help expedite the design and estimating processes that Mr. and Mrs. [Member name removed] expressed urgency. As we do with all prospective clients, we listen to what their dreams and ideas are, interpret, as best as possible and then design and estimate with the procedures that we use day in and day out. The original proposal was revised per the customer’s request. Upon the receipt of the revised proposal the client came back and requested us to use product not available in our normal supply chain. He also implied that he felt our normal labor rates might be questionable, that our markup to cover overhead and profit seemed excessive. As I had advised Mr. [Member name removed] our estimating is predicated on being consistent to be competitive, quality based, marketable and devised to also cover administrative and customer service. That is what we have learned to be able to be in business 32 years and have a very comfortable customer base. We have withdrawn from the project feeling uncomfortable with Mr. [Member name removed] with what we felt was possibly confrontational behavior.

It took 5 weeks, which is what they said it would take. They were responsive to my changes, although I think a upcharge of 30% was kind of high. They were the highest of my three bids, but gave us a professional presentation, which led us to pick them. They kept me informed from beginning to end and they used good quality products. The old saying you get what you pay goes here, they may have been the highest bid, but I would use them again.

The job was scheduled for 6 weeks and since they went over that time frame, they started cutting corners. I had to have them come back to nail in trim on the floor - they just set it in, the door does not lock, deadbolt needed adjusted. Roof leaked - they said it was not their fault and did not fix. Paint from door ran down to doorstop, they never fixed. everything about this job was a disaster and they are so angry on the phone that I do not call anymore.
Description of Work: They did a kitchen addition. I have had nothing but problems with the work, used old plumbing materials that now need replaced, did not bury underground wiring and I mowed right over it. Roof leaked and now paint is peeling. I have had three other contractors in to repair their shabby work. NEVER use them.

Description of Work: Not impressed at all. I called for an estimate and everyone came out to the house. Next thing no response. I had to call and find out what was going on and they told me they were not interested. Funny thing I tried to contact the owner and he wrote a bad email to me. I have no problems with that, but funny thing is that I thought Peacock was the best contractors out in Granger, and by I find out they are not. Same old story, take money from Paul to pay Peter. Met with the designer, visited their showroom. It was nice that their showroom had flooring, counter top options, cabinets, etc so we didn't have to run around from store to store. Very professional. VERY METICULOUS AND DETAIL-ORIENTED. We were sad that we couldn't work with them because they were above our price range. Their bid came in ~8k above other bids and our max budget.

The beginning was rocky, as we could not get a firm start date from them. The designer would say one date, then it would change. Finally, we had to have a very serious conversation with the owner of the company about when things would get done. However, I have to say, that once things got rolling, the project was seamless. They did an amazing job, and it was worth every penny. Speaking of, they are not the least expensive people around. In fact, they were the most expensive bid we received for the project. However, we paid the money for two reasons: First, they get it done. They work constantly and consistently to deliver results. That is the point of the company, results. Secondly, if there is a problem, they fix it-Immediately. For instance, after a few months the carpet was coming up due to a faulty adhesive. I phoned Peacock, and the owner of the company was there the next day. The day after that, repairs were started. The day after that they were done. Fast, efficient, and excellent quality of work. I would not hesitate to recommend them, and will only use them for other major renovations.

They had a wonderful design. They blended in the roofline with the original house so you would not know that it was an addition. Worked closely with us to pick out windows. Made great suggestions for a window seat in the bay window with storage. Matched existing hard wood floor in dining room extension. You can hardly tell where the old and new wood joined. Finished on time and within budget.

We did all the demo ourselves, bought and laid the hardwood flooring in the bedroom and closet, and painted the bathroom, closet, and bedroom; but it still ended up costing us $60,000. We even already had a rendering of the design we wanted so no leg work for them there. We had several ideas for our remodel but were told by Peacock that they either didn't exist or they couldn't install it because they had never done it before. We went to a home show a few weeks after our remodel was finished and surprisingly found everything we had wanted, and they weren't new products. The tile guy took 2 weeks to finish his part of the job, during which time no one else could or would work on anything else. He showed up late and often left before 3pm. My sister, who was staying with us during the remodel, overheard him complaining to the project manager about us (the owners). "Why do they need it like that?'" "Why cant they just have something normal?" His part wasn't that elaborate! The project manager never corrected this either. He smelled of alcohol more than a few times while he was working in our house. He was very unpleasant to us any time we had a question. We gave him the pattern of how to lay a certain tile design, he changed it without consulting us. My husband caught it but when he told the tile guy that it was incorrect he was told that it would cost us extra. We have a glass enclosed shower that Peacock installed. The door still leaks! Always has. We have to keep a towel in front of the door to catch all the water that literally flows out. It has caused the paint on the half wall next to the door to peel and bubble. We called multiple times to have them come fix the problem and they never did. The bulkhead they installed in the bathroom leaked so now there's a water mark and peeling paint on the ceiling. After multiple calls Peacock failed to come fix that either. In our Master Closet, we requested brushed nickel rod hangers. Our project manager told us they didn't make them and she would have to special order them at the cost of an extra $500+. My husband jumped online and found them in a matter of a few minutes and much cheaper! All of this and they went a month over their deadline! We felt like since our income isn't as high as Peacocks higher end clients and we are younger that we didn't matter as much and were taken advantage of.

I thought they did a wonderful job on the kitchen. We had some issues with the roof. The people who delivered the shingles drove the truck into the yard and tore up the yard. They already had a reputable reputation when we hired them. They did a good job on the roof. We had the ability to compare their work with our neighbors, because everyone in the neighborhood had to have their roof replaced due to a hail storm. Just the way they handled their daily operation, like getting rid of the trash, cleaning up before they went home was good. We have had the roof for 2 years and have had no problems with it.

Let me start by saying that my bathroom is BEAUTIFUL, getting to that beauty was quite a challenge. I also have to say that peacock and co. is not cheap. They have specific companies for tile and plumbing they like to use, and it's not discount stores. We decided to go with Peacock because both my mother and mother in law had them redo kitchens - which both had exceptional results all around. That said, we had little problems that kept coming up most were not Peacocks fault - the tile we ordered didn't pass quality control and was on back order for almost 2 months ( and of course its made in Italy) Our designer, Elizabeth was wonderful with exploring different options so we didnt have to stop work and wait for tile, and Steve our contractor did great refiguring the tile work. We had issues with the adhesive for the tile coming thru the grout, which Steve came back twice to fix. The tile on the shower threshold wasnt leveled propery, causing water to leak out if the shower, which Steve also fixed. The electriciian did not mount my lighting evenly, the stopper in the sink wasn't connected correctly and they forgot to caulk around the window. Little thing easily fixed, yet incredibly annoying. My main problem is the fact the the plumbers never fixed the leak for which this whole project was started. We had the contractor rip up the floor to find the leak, which they thought they discovered in a loose connection, but of course was not the case. Long story short, the didn't locate the leak and we had to rip apart my ceiling below the bathroom. Ahhhhhhh......we spent so much money on this bathroom and could not use it until they fixed the leak. Now my bathroom is beautiful, yet the bad luck and small issues just drove me nuts. Don't get me wrong, I don't know if it's murphy's law or just my bad luck, but we were expecting much more from Peacock.
Description of Work: We called Peacock to completely gut our master bathroom. We had a leak in the pipe and figured to completely redecorate (which we planned to do eventually). The removed all existing walls, existing shower, toilet, sink, electrical and plumbing and replaced with a custom built shower and vanity.

Peacock did not actually perform any services in our home.
Description of Work: We asked Peacock to come out and give us an estimate for finishing part of our basement. Bryon came out and listened to our needs, took measurements, discussed the specifics, and was able to create a blueprint on the spot to show me how the finished project could look. Several weeks later, he came over and presented a very professionally-presented price estimate. We had another estimate from a different company, and ultimately decided to go with that other company, but I am confident that Peacock would have done a great job on the project. I would highly recommend that others contact them to discuss home renovation projects.
