Mr. Handyman of Northern St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties

He was not good. They are supposed to do V board panel in the kitchen. It was just a sloppy job. He didn't know how to do the job. I would not use them again.

It went very well. He looked for the way to connect the fireplace in the safest, and most cost efficient way. He bought only the parts he needed, installed it and then checked for leaks.

They don't give estimates, they only give rough estimates. They estimated the whole shower would cost us $800 and it turned out that just the smallest wall in the shower cost us $800 so I wasn't real happy with their pricing. If we needed to do those other walls we would have never been able to afford it because the other shower wall was very big. If he would have gone ahead and done that, it would have been almost $4000. I wouldn't reuse them again. The quality of work was fine. He did a good job.

First of all, Mr Handyman was the first contractor I've reached out to via Angie's List that reached out to me ASAP and were able to start the work ASAP. They charge by the hour and are able to do a rough estimate before they even come out (might need pictures). I thought that the price was just a little high compared to others I've worked with in the past, but it was well worth it. They were out within days of my first contact with the company and finished the work within a week, although this was the week of Christmas that they started. Only complaint I would have is that the trash haul away is not included. This wasn't something I even thought to ask about up front, as I just assumed it would be, but it isn't. So right now I have some huge piles of trash in my backyard. They did provide me with the name of a haul away guy that they know, hopefully his price is reasonable.

Showed up on time and did a good job. Left the area littered with packaging, cut offs, etc.

I called Mr. Handyman on Nov. 10 or 11th (I can't remember) about a leak. They were prompt in scheduling an appointment for November 12. The technician showed up right at 8am. Because we thought that the issue was that water was leaking through the gap in the caulking, I told him to repair it. It took approx. 3.5 hrs. (he actually went to his van to do the invoice at 11:20am and returned with it at 11:24am, but they bill by rounding up on the 1/2 hours of service; also 1 hr. of that time was spent on him going to a store to look for a particular kind of caulk). Upon getting home that evening, I looked more closely at the job done. There were at least 3 large, gaping holes in the caulking bits of caulking left at various places on the tub and shower surround, and in general the job was very sloppy (the caulking was not done neatly, etc.) Also, in an attempt to protect my bathtub finish, he used tape that actually took up the glaze on a number of places (at least 6 small spots). He repaired this with a paint (for which, I believe, I was charged!), but the repair work is fairly obvious; I will probably now have to get the tub reglazed eventually. In any event, I called the office after hours, left a message, and sent an email to voice my complaint about this. I received an email back on November 13, telling me that the same technician would return on Friday, November 14. I told them that I wanted someone else, and they agreed. That technician came on Friday, a bit late -- but it was snowing, so I had no problem with that. He filled in most of the gaps nicely and did a nice job smoothing out with more caulk a number of the areas that were terribly crooked. He missed, however, one large gap on the shower surround near one of the shelves. On November 19 I noticed this when the leak came back, and asked them to send someone to take care of it. Later that day I received a call from Kim at the office, telling me that the only real solution was to replace the surround (which the first technician said would run me around $2500). I promptly refused and told him that someone first had to come and take care of the original job completely. He said that a tech would come on November 20 at 8am. By 8:40 no one had arrived, and so I decided to give up on Mr. Handyman and buy a caulking gun to take care of the last spot myself. I sent Kim an email about this; he called and left me a voicemail and email telling me that they would be happy to re-schedule, but I declined. In the meantime, as it turns out, the problem was something else entirely. I filled the bathtub partially with water on the night of November 19, and found that it was draining slowly because of some kind of block. I used a gel unblocker (a generic form of Drano) 2x, the block became clear, and the leak vanished. I chose Mr. Handyman based on the Angie's List reviews, and was disappointed. A very simple job ended up costing me almost $375 and was not finished even after two tries. This was a simple caulking job. In hindsight, I should have just done it myself. Judging by the reviews, my experience is not typical. Every business has its bad days, and unfortunately I got one of those. But, let the buyer beware... Both technicians, I should say, were extremely nice and answered any questions that I had for them. UPDATE: I contacted the owner about repairing the chipping on the tub in June. He was very kind and offered to come out to the house to look at it. He came and took several pictures, and told me that the glaze should not have been removed easily. He consulted with a local contractor who confirmed this. This was very helpful for me, because I know now that the original work was done incorrectly and now I can take it up with that contractor. Even though this doesn't fix the original problem, I really appreciate the owner taking the time to come and look at the problem himself, even several months later, and consulting with another company to let me know that another problem needs to be addressed.

It went well considering the home store gave me the wrong vanity top.? He had to go get another to replace it.? I do want to also, say the company is quite professional and got back to me in about 5 minutes.? I was VERY PLEASED the way they handled my situation and will certainly tell my friends.? The service man they sent out was also, very pleasant and knew his job.

Mr. Handyman has always been very professional and on time. Their response to my calls has been timely, and their employees very good at their job. I was very satisfied and will be calling them again.

They work was so sloppy. What patch work was done just made it worse! They spilled paint everywhere. He wanted to charge $2,600. Where they did some sanding, there was debris left everywhere. He tried saying they had $300 in materials. I wanted an itemized list for the materials & I even gave him the option to make it right. He sent someone back & he did clean up the mess a little & touch a few things up, but I was still not satisfied with the work. His worker also lost the key for the home, so I had to have a locksmith come in to change the locks. I offered him $1,200. He asked for a credit card to bill me & send a receipt. I told him that I am not giving him my credit card. He is completely unethical!

I can't see ever wanting to use employ these folks. I'm admittedly new to the area and maybe I'll change my tune after I've looked around some more but I'm in shock!!

The service rep arrived on time (8 AM) and was very polite.? There was definitely attention to customer service and respect for their clients homes.? He explained what he was going to do well and tested the fix once it was complete.? Overall, it was a very good experience.

The gentleman was nice and they showed up. He came when he said he was going to but did not come with proper equipment to do the job and they are already aware of this. We had to interactions with this company in which we wanted them to do some gutter repair and they never showed up and we rescheduled and they still didn't show up so I'm not going to reschedule with them.

They come out when they say they are going to and that is always a plus. I've called a lot of them but they don't even show up. I've had them once before and they come out when they say they are going to come out, they get the job done in the time they say they are going to do it, and they follow up to see if the work was done correctly. It was fine. I didn't have any problems with them. They were professional and they weren't creepy or anything because I've had some of that too. It was always a problem getting anything done around here. I joined Angie's List because I thought maybe I could find some good people on there. I like them. The stuff that they repaired did not break down again. Somebody answers the phone, I don't get an answering machine, and they call to let me know when they are coming out and they come out.

Along with Tim being knowledgeable and professional, Kim in the office was always helpful, kind and a great multi-tasker! Got not one, but two thank you cards from owners along with a follow up call from Kim about the service. Originally thought the hourly rate was a bit high, but...you get what you pay for. Will definitely hire again!

He gave me an estimate over the phone and when h e arrived, more work was involved then he understood from my description. I offered to pay more because of the way I described the work, but he insisted of charging me JUST the price he quoted me over the phone. Service was preformed, very friendly and professional. It was a very good experience. I WILL use this provider again.

They came out and did this and that jobs. They were great. They came out, they were very efficient. I had a list of six little jobs to do and they did them all really well. I didn't have any problems with them. I thought they were very efficient. They didn't waste time. You are paying per hour, they got that list of jobs done quickly. They just moved from one job to the next and got everything in that hour of time done that I needed them to do. I think it was a good experience. I would use them again. They will talk with you, they will work with you, they will help you with all kinds of ideas and they are very efficient, very on time. I talked to the owner. He's very all about his business, making sure that customers are satisfied.

Fantastic. Did a great job on a wide variety of project. And, cleaned everything up, were very thorough, etc.

Mr. Handyman was up front from the very beginning that they did not provide the services; however, they referred us to certified electrician and looking forward to getting the work done (new electrical and fan installation).

They were timely and professional. I have used them a total of four times and they have been able to handle any repairs I have needed. The repairmen listen and work quick. They will even run and pick up needed parts at the store for you. I will use them again when needed.

The man bent and snapped the patio umbrella. He never washed the furniture or cleaned the patio door. He did cut a piece of carpet for me as well as painted two hand rails. I called the owner about my complaints and he wanted to send the same guy out, which I declined. They didn't do the work to my satisfaction.

The handyman listened to my requests for some projects.He gave me a verbal estimate of 2 men needed for 2 days ( a nice round amount) at $138/hour plus 50% for a second guy plus supplies (no definite amount).He did not even climb up on the roof to see the extent of work needed there. This is definitely an outrageous wage at a guess on the work at best. There was no written estimate, indicating to me that this could easily get way out of hand. The price was $138.00 for the estimates.

I have used them several times and they are always professional, on time, and the work is done right.

Contractor was prompt and professional. Work was done with good quality. Price is a little steep for what I wanted, but they were the only people willing to do the work needed. If hiring in Elkhart area be prepared with 2 hours of work becuase there is a 2 hour minimum for this area.

I wouldn't have him here anymore because of simple problem. He just came in and out in 5 minutes and charged me $100.

Mr. Handyman arrived on time, was informative about the cost and work involved, worked quickly and efficiently. A bonus: he was articulate, polite, and conducted himself professionally. We called Mr. Handyman again in February when the snow on our roof melted and the resulting dammed-up water leaked into the ceiling and along the windows. We were out of town when they came, but our neighbors confirmed that they came promptly and worked carefully. The bill was fair (had been explained over the phone, ahead of time) and there has been no additional leakage. Although we weren't there to see how things went, we are satisfied that they did a good job.
