This was my first purchase of a home but Del was not my first realtor. I found him after having a less than fruitful experience with another person. My initial impression of Del was tentative since he didn't have the typical overwhelming-salesman personality that I had come to associate with this profession. He was matter-of-fact and business-like. Not having purchased a home before, I don't have previous experiences to offer a comparison. With that said, I believe that many of the problems I encountered (none having to do with Del) were typical of purchasing a home. At every obstacle though, Del provided information (not advice) for me to make informed decisions. While I knew that he was working on commission and that the more time I took to find a house the less money he was making, he was adamant that I take as much time as needed and not worry about the time taken for me to find the "right" house. Perhaps it was because it was my first home but this process was very emotionally draining and I became impatient at times. Del was skilled at easing my fears (while being realistic) and helping me to understand the many steps in the process. After comparing my experience with others I feel very blessed and thankful.
Description of Work: Del Meyer, an agent at Century 21, met with me at first to describe his services and the limitations. He explained what he would do to aid me in finding the "right" home. Del was good to his word. Despite my doubts that we could cover as many houses as he predicted, he would show me 25 houses in an afternoon. It was obvious he was closely observing my comments and answers to his questions because the next round of houses would be more tailored to my liking. When I would chose a possible house to purchase, Del was patient in presenting the pros and cons of each house but never pushed an opinion. Del aided me in finding and arranging contractors to provide estimates. His knowledge of the community and its resources were instrumental in helping me find a program that provided excellent financing for me. In the end, when I found the house I wanted to buy, Del was a true advocate for me with the seller. He encouraged me to be patient with the process and kept me from making what would have been self-defeating decisions due to impatience. He prepared me for the closing meeting and even assisted me with questions after I had finally purchased the house. Even after the purchase was final and he no longer had any obligation to me, I was impressed with his follow-up. I had been told at the closing to make sure to get my exemptions filed before the end of the year. Perhaps because he knew that I was overwhelmed as a first-time buyer, Del contacted me to make sure that I had followed through on this task.
