RENT A SPOUSE HANDYMAN SERVICES

Have used this service before and electrical installation has always been good in the past. Set up an appointment for the 'morning' and he arrived at 11:30am. Had a garage door opener installed to replace an old one. He took down the old one and installed the new one in about 3.5 hours. The door opener works properly. Also had an outdoor light fixture which wasn't functioning. Asked him to replace that one with another from the side of the house and then install a new one to replace the side one. He immediately said he could fix the old one so we wouldn't have to swap them out. Against our better judgement we said ok. He soon ran into complications which caused him to have to change wiring and work on another fixture on the front of the house as well. This stretched into a couple hours. The total time for both projects was 5.5 hours for a total of $330. A couple days later we noticed the fixture wasn't working and called him back. He said he would be there between 9-10am. He called at 10:30am and said he would be there between 1-2pm instead. He arrived at 1:15pm. We told him the light wasn't working and gave him the new fixture because we wanted to go back to the original plan. He said he knew it was the light socket that was bad, and started to work on that. We left him to it. An hour or so later he said he forgot a tool and left to get it. When we checked on what he was doing we found he had taken apart the light switch that worked the outdoor lights. The switch worked properly when he arrived but he claimed it wasn't functioning correctly. We gave him a brand new one but he said that one was bad too. We gave him another brand new one which he installed and it worked. We were billed for 2 more hours of work plus the light socket. Considering the light wasn't fixed originally, and our wishes weren't followed either time, we didn't expect to be billed for the full time on the second visit. Bottom line, we paid around $270 to have the fixture fixed, well more than the price of the fixture itself, or the time to change out the fixtures as requested. We should have demanded he honor our replacement request, so we take responsibility for part of the situation. That being said, we will not call him in the future after the situation on this job.

Confusing communication. Submitted one bid, I said it was more than I could afford, he said he would adjust the bid and remove some items but I received no adjusted bid. I assumed he didn't want the job and began looking for other contractors. He just showed up one day and began work. Now here is where I assume responsibility and it is why I am paying his inflated fees, I should have stopped him as soon as he showed up and explained that he could not continue working until I had a written estimate. Shame on me, I was impatient and wanted to get the work done, I knew better than have someone start work without something in writing. After receiving the final bill, I, in shock, called my son,who lives in Florida and who is also in construction. I wanted to be fair so I asked for his opinion? My son knows of the buildings that the work was done on. My son assured me that Rent A Spouse "saw us coming" and that the job was way overpriced. I feel so taken by this company, even though I really need more help with home repairs, I am reluctant to trust anyone any more. It makes me sick to feel so cheated.

He arrived on time and finished the job very quickly. He was careful not to make a mess and cleaned up after he was finished. I was very happy with his performance.

Every time that we use them they have been great. There have never been any problems and I am always pleased with the service. They are on time, friendly, and professional. This is a great company to do business with.
