Absolute Air

I was out of town and got a call from my mother in law, who lives with us, that the furnace was not working. We are on the Nipsco ESP plan so I told her to call them. They sent a tech from Absolute Air who said that my humidifier was leaking into the furnace and that the ESP plan does not cover this. He said my furnace was old and needed to be replaced but he could change out the bad part for $800 or he could give me an estimate and could install the new furnace the next day. He gave us an estimate but I elected to wait till I got back in town before i decided what to do. The next day a family friend looked at our furnace and agreed that it was old and needed to be replaced. In the meantime he reconnected some wires the tech had disconnected and hit a reset button and the furnace fired up. Its been a week now and the furnace has been running with no issues. It seems to me the tech saw a lady in distress and tried to make a quick sale!

Great! Serviceman came out same day and said nothing was broken we just needed coolant and instructed us on how to keep coils from freezing. Referring them to neighbors now.

The technician was informative, professional and friendly. I would definitely use them again.

Our central air conditioner stopped working late last night. I had a morning dentitst appointment so as soon as I got home at 11:15 am, I called Absolute Air. Mark answered and I told him the problem. He asked when I would like to have someone come out and I said whenever you can send someone. He said he could come out here today sometime in the afternoon. At 1:45 pm Mark called and said they were on their way. By 2:00 pm Mark and Gus had arrived. They quickly figured out the problelm and replaced the capacitor and hosed out the coil. They were done by 2:40 pm.. My air conditioner is now running perfectly. While Mark was here I asked him if he could possibly give me a furnace estimate. He did and took the time to explain everything to me. Everything was great we will definately use them again.

Their service was good, it was excellent. They're ready when you needed them, they're on time and they have all the requirements for business.

I emailed this company from Angie's list on 5/6/14 and Brian responded the same day. I called in the morning of 5/7/14 and got scheduled for the same day. Tony called before he arrived (nice). He went right to work and determined the problem. He was very intelligent, very friendly, and explained everything he was doing as well as why our water heater problem existed. He tested the system to make sure everything was working correctly. Great experience.

Great. It was much better than trying to get money out of us for a repair that was not necessary.

The company called to schedule my appointment promptly. The technician who came was prompt, professional, and very patient in trying to determine my issue. I was very satisfied.

I chose them because they were cheaper. They were professional, and courteous. They diagnosed the problem right away. I believed they overcharged me. I asked him to break him down the cost of labor and parts and he said that it was a flat rate. I feel as though they overcharge and once the work takes longer, they charge an hourly rate.

I have had them out to repair it at least five times for the same problem and it is still not working.

Part(transformer from new furnace 3 years ago) was still under warranty. Service call was $39. Labor was $59.

Problem fixed. Upset the Tech did not want to be bothered by me using a credit card.

That is exactly what we did. We signed up for Angie's list, reviewed the providers and found that Absolute, in Portage, was a trusted provider. We called them, they came over when they said they would and even called in advance to give us some notice. The found the source of the problem and YES it was that cover with hairline cracks. It needed just some silicone to seal those up. With our furnace (it is about 14 years old/high efficiency) there have been ongoing issues with this little cover piece leaking. Absolute didn't lie and try to 'replace' or repair some expensive part. They told the truth, did the job, were in and out and it has not leaked since. It has been a few weeks since the repair and all is well. I plan to go back to Absolute because they have been honest with me and with others and that deserves continued loyalty to them. Thank you Mark - also, for answering a question/solving a concern that I had related to Angie's List - he was so helpful - great integrity!

This is not your common problem. We have a maintenance service through another company that dispatches different contractors. Every year for the last six years in the winter when it would get cold, the furnace could not keep up and we would freeze. Every year someone was sent out and the furnace was only temporariy fixed. A part was always replaced but when it got really cold the furnace could not function properly. This year the same thing happened and for the first time they dispatched Absolute Air. Within a few hours Ken arrived. I told him the problem we are having winter after winter. Ken diagnosed the problem and explained it in detail so I could fully understand the problem. It needed limit switch and basically the furnace was too big for our house. So he said we needed a bigger vent exiting the furnace. It was New Year's Eve and the supply house was closed for the holidays. He said he or someone would be out first thing Thursday (1/2/14) to fix it. Sure enough first thing Thursday (1/2/14) Chris came out and put the parts in. On Friday (1/3/14) Ken came back out to check it and adjusted the flame which was too high and adding to the past problem. He also suggested down the road at our convenience to put in a cold air return in the family room which will also cut down on our heating and air conditioning bills which we intend to do. We I can tell you Ken is our hero. Recently when the State of Emergency was put into effect due to the snow and cold weather with below zero temperatures, the furnace worked fantastically for the first time. With those temperatures in the past the furnace would have never functioned properly. I have recommended Absolute Air to my friends and family. Thank you, Ken!

Serviced my air conditioner & prepared for summer use!

We got estimates from 3 local companies and Absolute Air was the cheapest so we went with them. The owner was very knowledgable and knew exactly what type of equipment was needed for the best energy efficiency for the size of our home. The technicians were hard workers and completed the job in one day. They were polite and professional, very impressed with the whole job. Our utility bill has dropped about $50 a month! Not only did we save $$$ on the purchase and install, but we continue to save every month when that NIPSCO bill comes! Very satisfied. Wish all home service companies were as reliable and trustworthy as this one. Very pleased.

The same guy came out to my home both times and was exceptionally good. He was meticulous and thorough in his inspection. I would highly recommend this company.

Great service again by Absolute Air! My A/C stopped working so I called to set up an appt for service. I did appreciate that prior to scheduling they attempted to 'troubleshoot' my problem via phone & possibly avoid a service call. OK.... so it was not my lucky day and we made an appointment. The crew showed up on time and had to go into my crawl space to figure it out. My wires were bad and they had to pull them out and replace with new ones. They also discovered the source of the problem was a pest control issue - mice were munching on my wires! So I eventually I had to hire a pest control company to prevent it from happening again in the future (another positive review for the pest control company). Finally they cleaned & checked the A/C & furnace units. This has been the 3rd time I've used Absolute Air and will say AGAIn that they are courteous, professional and do excellent work at a fair price, which are the ingredients to earn a loyal customer - me.

I have used Absolute Air in the past for A/C service and was very satisfied and am SO grateful i did again!! I came home from work to find a complete disaster. My 15+ yr old 40 Gal water heater gave up the ghost and leaked itself darned near empty in my downstairs family room. Flood flood flood! My carpets were soaked and smelly from the sitting water. As I splashed through the puddles of my living room I just cried. I didn't know where to even begin. I called Absolute Air. The owner personally came out to assess the situation (after normal hours at no charge!!) & dispatched his crew come out immediately. The head tech Tony diagnosed the problem as a worn out relief valve and due to the severity and age of the unit they recommended replacement. Before leaving for the night they went back to their offices and brought me back a high power ShopVac, helped me suction my carpets, and brought 4 industrial looking fans to help dry it all out afterwards. The next day I got a call from the owner with my quote for the replacement, and while I feared the worst financially he actually made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He had an exchanged water heater sitting in his warehouse that was only 1 year old and although technically 'used' it would probably last me 10 years or so. I bought it at a discount & it was installed it that day. They left me the fans for a whole week and never charged me a dime extra. They were prompt, cleaned up afterwards and I feel went above and beyond the basics. I highly recommend the company to anyone needing this kind of service.

The tech was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable. He was pleasant to talk to and explained everything I had questions about. Made a diagnosis and completed his work. I would call Absolute Air again in a minute.

We were taken advatage of. We were blind-sided! We didn't see that one coming. Not that it matters, but they also had the highest quote of the 5 we got and they were $2,000.00 over the next closest quote we got!

I've had other companies come out and look at my furnace before, and they seemed to do a more thorough job than this fellow did. He basically just checked my furnace filter, and told me it needed changing. Then when he went out to look at my air conditioning (it was a hot summer and I felt the air conditioning unit was not keeping up) he said we needed Freon and charged me an extra $50+ dollars to do that. I paid him in cash, so I'm sorry I don't remember exactly how much extra I paid, but it was between $50 and $70. I give the service a "B" because I felt that the provider didn't really understand the coupon, and that looking at both services quickly gave too little time to the air conditioner, which we hadn't had looked at in years, and which was supposedly on its last legs when we had someone out here about 4 years ago. We never cover it in the winter, and I thought this workman might have to do some leaf cleanout, since I figured it was filled with peeling white paint from the cover or leaves, but that wasn't even mentioned. He seemed in a hurry to get extra money out of me, via the Freon recharge. I'm not saying the extra coolant wasn't necessary; I'm just saying that the appointment seemed so quickly to come to the conclusion that I needed to pay more than I'd originally planned, it felt to me like that was the real reason he had come out. I had the owner out a few days later to replace the thermostat in the house (which wasn't functioning properly, and which was the reason I started worrying about the house's heating/AC systems in the first place and was looking for a trustworthy company to handle that for me) and he did a very good job with the thermostat. He seemed disappointed, however, that the first guy out hadn't dropped off a magnet or any other advertising materials from the company. I would call this company again if I could be sure it was the owner who came out...

They called at the last minute to say they would'nt be able to make it that day. and rescheuled for the following Monday. They showed up on time and performed the necessary services. They were very polite and efficient. They told me I needed a replacement unit and made another appointment to give me an estimate. Besides the first delay, I would use them again if necessary.
