My Cub Cadet 7192 was overheating and I called Plainfield Equipment (on May 4th) for service. During the call, I told them that I was going to need a new radiator on my tractor and maybe some other shop work completed. I was told the tractor could be looked at within 2 weeks and roundtrip transportation would be between $80-150 depending on how far away my home was from the shop. On May 11th, my tractor was picked up and taken to shop. On May 27th, I hadn’t heard anything and called the shop. I was told that they had been busy and it would definitely get looked at within the next few days. On June 3rd, I hadn’t heard anything and called the shop. I was told that they had been busy and it would definitely get looked at within the next few days. On June 8th, I hadn’t heard anything and called the shop. I was told that they had been busy and it would definitely get looked at within the next few days. I responded that I’d already been told that multiple times and I needed my tractor back. Later that same day, I was called and told that I needed a new radiator (this was a known), but it was obsolete, so they would have to call around and see what they could find. On May 10th, I was called and told that the radiator was impossible to get and that they couldn’t find one that was just close, because they are a dealership and have to put the exact one in. This could have been checked by them BEFORE they even picked it up to begin with! Since, I was already paying for transportation I had them do an oil change. On May 11th, I was called and my total was $346. Yep, that is correct. On May 12th, I got my tractor back with a $346 oil change and still overheating. $150 of the $346 was for transportation (Distance from my barn to the shop is just under 5 miles.) As a side note, a radiator is now ordered and will be installed next week on location. I will never use or recommend Plainfield Equipment to anyone! In fact, I will be going out of my way to tell this story over and over again. Added: I sent this review to them and gave them a chance to “make it right” before I posted it. Rex Jr. called me and explained to me that the pandemic created these issues and I actually got a deal. At no point in the conversation did he do anything other than make excuses on the pandemic and blame Cub Cadet. If you are reading this review: I highly suggest you take your business and your hard-earned money elsewhere!

I was very happy with the service. They were professional and very helpful. They identified an issue with the riding mower that had not been identified previously with other companies. I plan to use PLAINFIELD EQUIPMENT INC in the future to service my mowers.

I bought a New Holland Work Master 4 wheel drive tractor a year ago from them. I paid $20,000.00 for it and got the bucket that goes with it. It has been a year since then. I called them up and asked them how much it would be to do a service on it and they told me $500.00. Not only did I find this price ridiculous, but the two individuals I spoke with were not at all very customer friendly. They couldn't get off the phone with me quick enough but kept trying to talk over me. They have a problem listening and barely let me talk. Anytime I tried to make a point or a suggestion they told me I was wrong. They said for the $500.00 they would pick it up, change the oil, air up the tires, blow out the filter and grease it. The best part is they said it would take 3-4 weeks. I said to them I can check the tire pressure myself and I've never heard of it costing $500.00 to change the oil and to blow out filters and grease the fittings. I told them I could take my Camaro in and get it done for $165 for an oil change and filters...oh and the dealer doesn't charge me to air up the tires. Their response was typical smoke and mirrors and telling me that was not even the same comparison. They kept trying to bs me. Rex was one of their names and he is the one I bought the tractor from. I then asked about a headlight I had ordered and paid for if I had them service the tractor would there be a charge for it. Their response was "yep, absolutely." Replacing the headlight takes a whole 5 min which I will do. I stopped in their today and bought 2 tubes of grease. I asked the guy/salesman at the counter if he could take a min and point out on one of their exact same model tractors where the grease fittings are and his response was "both my mechanics are out to lunch, nope." I note that there was two salesman working and nobody but my wife and myself in the store and neither one of the salesman would show me. I also asked again on the wait for service and he said if I brought it in today it would sit for 3 weeks before anyone would look at it and it was not possible to be put on the waiting list prior to leaving the tractor with them. I would like to remind them I paid $20,000.00 cash for this tractor and anytime I deal with them they are rude, unprofessional, extremely lazy, and bs their way out of everything. So I went to New Hollands website today and found another dealer/service provider that is 40 miles away and he said he will have it serviced in 2-3 days and the max charge for service: oil change, check/clean filters, lube, etc is $200.00 and he said there is no charge for airing the tires up! He also said $500.00 is "absurd" to do the service work. I do not recommend this place for anything...purchasing or servicing the equipment. I don't expect anyone to bend over backwards for me, but a little professionalism and courtesy goes a long way.

Description of Work: I bought a Cub Cadet riding lawn mower at Plainfield Equipment in 2012 and needed to replace both of the front tires. To save the pickup and delivery fee, I took the wheels off at home and took them to the shop for replacement. The work was done by the next morning, re-installed and working fine. My only complaint is the cost of the parts.

We called in January to schedule the pick up so we could get the free pick up service. We were told to call back because of the weather. Called back ion March 14th and was told we were too late for the free pick up promotion. We asked for a 24 hour notice before pickup. They called on a Saturday morning (4/12/14) stating they would be in the neighborhood and would pick up the mower. We told them we needed to cut our grass before they did this and to call us for their next pick up schedule. Monday (4/14/14) 2 minutes after we got home for work their truck pulled up and the driver said he was in the neighborhood and had been waiting for us to get home so he could pick up our mower. No 24 hour notice. Monday (4/21) we called and asked if our mower was done. They stated they haven't started on it. Monday (4/28) we called and asked if our mower was done. They stated they haven't started on it. So we told them if it wasn't going to be ready by Thursday to just fix the flat tire and bring it back to us. Thursday (5/1) We called and they stated they still didn't start on it. They didn't fix the tire as we requested and did not plan on delivering it to us that day. Saturday (5/3) We went to the store and asked if our mower was done. The reply was yes and we will give you a call because the bill is not ready. We asked if we could pay now since we were there. They stated no the bill is not ready. They would call us when they are ready to deliver and we could pay then. 3:30 Saturday afternoon they called, delivered the mower, collected their money and gave us the bill. Quantity of actual labor charged for 3 weeks waiting....... 3.5 hours. And yes they charge for pick up and delivery.

I took my chainsaw to them for a tune up about 2 months ago. They gave me an estimate at first of $100 to $110 to tune it up. Two days later they called and told me it would cost $175 dollars to tune it up but they had to order the parts. Then I had to wait for the parts to be ordered at a higher cost than originally told. A couple of weeks later after hanging around there all day for them to finish the job they told me the coil was bad! They used the excuse "electronic parts go bad". I think it strange that it was working when I took it to them! I had to personally locate a replacement part myself and take it to them. It still took a couple more weeks before they worked on it. Now it won't even idle as it is supposed to and misfires constantly. It's worse now than when they were hired to tune it up and they charged me $198 to screw up my chainsaw!
Description of Work: They were to tune up my chainsaw.

On or about August 8th, while mowing with my Cub Cadet rider, I kicked up a rock. Visible damage observed was both mulching blades damaged. Mulching plug damaged. Timing belt damaged. I unhooked the mowing deck from the mower and loaded it in my car and drove it to Plainfield Equipment for repair. They called me back days later and said the repair bill would be $550.00 to $600.00 dollars. Shocked at the high estimate, I asked why it was so much. I was told that in addition to the things I knew to be wrong, both my spindles on the deck needed replaced and also a deck pulley. Needing my mower back, I told them to go ahead and order the parts, but not the mulching kit, that I had the old blades and would have them install those. A day or so later I brought the blades in and asked them to explain to me what parts had to be replaced and why. Their mechanic showed me that the spindles were dry. That was true. it was my fault, I hadn't kept them greased. he showed me the pulley. I didn't see anything wrong with it but I didn't want to second guess the mechanic. They told me they couldn't put the old blades back on because one of them was nicked. I told them to go ahead and get the mulching kit. Still upset at the high repair cost, I told them I had had my pickup truck for 7 years and the only time I had spent 600.00 dollars on it was when I bought new tires. One of the workers there, who was not involved with my repair piped in "that's a truck, not a mower". My point was that a whole truck was more complicated then a mowing deck. I didn't appreciate the remark. I also looked up the parts being replaced and found out that the spindles could come apart and the bearings alone could be replaced, saving me some money. I called Cub Cadet to verify this. When I picked up the deck after repairs, I asked them about this. At first I was told that they were "sealed". I gave the man a questioning look, and then he said that a lot of times there was "internal" damage. They also had told me that the mulching kit was back ordered, so I had them put a new set of regular blades on. They also replaced the deck pulley belt. I don't remember them mentioning that in the estimate, but in the back and forth of the transaction, maybe they did. I can't be sure. But the old belt was not broken and may have been worn, but still worked. Maybe they were just trying to be exact. But it would have been better if they asked me if I wanted to replace certain parts instead of giving me the impression they had to be replaced. I'm going to find another mower mechanic. Preferably one that's more sensitive to my wallet.

Shane was on time to pick up my large, zero turn mower for winterizing. In all aspects of service, knowledge, courtesy, and professionalism, h was first rate. He told me that in addition to the checks they would make, a list of about 20 things which had memorized and which he explained, he would call me before making any other repairs. The only thing they found was that it needed a new drive belt, for which he called and got permission to install. When Shane returned the mower, he answered all my wife's questions about treating the mower and all other gasoline engine driven machinery and tools. This is our second year to use Plainfield Equipment since our previous service company proved to be unreliable. We will definitely use this company again.pp

They picked it up and then we got a telephone call that the mower deck needed some major over hauling, about $650.00 worth of work. They also wanted to replace the battery for $80.00. The battery is perfectly fine, the terminals just needed cleaned. They checked the engine and said it was in perfect condition. I asked them about getting a new mower deck and they said it was unavailable. I then asked what they would give us for a trade in, and they said only $150.00. I told them just to bring it back, they wanted to charge me an extra $45.00 for a break down fee, which wasn't listed on their coupon. I paid the $200.00 for the tune up, but refused to pay for the breakdown fee. I will not use this company again.

We recently purchased 3 1/2 acres of land and needed a lawn mower that would last us for many years. The sales staff was very helpful and explained the pros and cons of each type of lawn mower they had. We are very pleased with our purchase and will definitely purchase all our future lawn equipment from them.
