When I moved into my home in 2010, I called Duke to turn on my electricity and set up automatic payments from my bank account. Since that time, I have not had any contact with them what-so-ever. They have been pulling random amounts from my bank account that fluctuated with the seasons. Most of the time, I paid no mind to the amounts as I knew it was something I was consuming and thus would pay for. May of 2013 we sold this home and moved out half way through the month. I called Duke to tell them I needed to shut off the service but they said the new home owner had already called to put his name on the account. June 7 I received a bill in the mail for a ridiculous $301.66! I contacted them and asked what this was about considering my bills have fluctuated between $83-$170 per month, but NEVER $300, especially considering I was only in the home for half the month. The customer rep explained I had switched the account to "Budget Billing" in July of 2012. I told her that is false because there was no reason for it. I never have had trouble paying my bills and therefore would not need this service. I pointed out that the bills had been fluctuating with the seasons still but the rep had no answer for me. I'm angry because I never signed up for the Budget Billing and I do not feel I owe them anymore than what I owe them for my usage, which is $83. I'm tired of people lying to con me out of money so I'm going to fight tooth and nail with this. I have always paid my bills on time and TRUSTED them with my bank account. I feel very ripped off and fooled.
