Said he could fix it, but it wouldn't last very long. He asked if I knew how much they charged for a new unit, I guessed about $1000, and he laughed at me (their ads say about $1200). They said they could finance, which I did. They took off quite a bit for being an Angie's List member and other discounts ($683).

It was a terrible experience overall as I described above. After he looked around, he said it would cost me more than $700 to figure out the problem. But he said he can fill the Freon that will cost me less which was about $340. After the argument for the price, the service person still charged me $232 for the 5 pounds of Freon. Instead of finding another service, I went ahead to allow the A/C charged with Freon in order to get my A/C working desperately. After two weeks, the Freon was all gone and the A/C was not working anymore. The service provided by ARS was horrible. Considering the price ARS has charged and the problem not been solved, I think ARS was performing a deceitful trick to gouge customer's money.

In five hours they came and did what they needed to do and were gone. They were very professional in letting me know how to operate the thermostat. We got a discount because they had fixed a wire on our old a/c the week before so they deducted $140 from the bill, the cost of the service call from the Thursday before. We also got a discount because we paid in cash and also got a discount because we were able work the installation into their schedule they offered us a discount. So far we've had a/c all weekend, the unit has run fine. The word is still out on the furnace.
Description of Work: On Tuesday they came out and gave us an estimate on the furnace and air conditioner and suggested we have an additional return vent installed. The appt was set up for Friday between 8:30 and 9, we had to wait a day because of the fourth of July. They showed up at 8:37 a.m that is very prompt. There were 3 guys. Very professional. One guy was assigned to the a/c, another guy installed the furnace and the third went to the attic to install the vent. Before he started cutting the hole in the ceiling he checked twice with me to make sure that the hole was in the right place. I thought that was really nice. When they started installing the air conditioner, they discovered that the old a/c had been wired incorrectly into our fuse box. They had me come out and look at it and made sure I understood what was wrong before they corrected it and at 2:30 in the afternoon they left here, everything was cleaned up and we had air.

We have used Air-Trol's service agreement for several years and have been very pleased with their service. They always call to remind us to schedule the maintenance calls for our furnace and AC, so we don't forget to do it. The service people have always been very courteous, professional, and informative. For example, the man who just inspected our air conditioner arrived promptly, covered his shoes in the house, and then took the time to explain everything he had done and the overall condition of our air conditioner. He also checked the filter in the furnace to make sure it didn't need to be changed. Our heating and cooling have been virtually trouble free the entire time we have used Air-Trol's service agreement.

I called and asked for an appointment and got one for the next day. The representative said that their representative would be out between the hours of 9-10 am. I received a call shortly before 10 saying that the plumber was running late. I called back when no one was there by 11:30. They said the plumber got held up on another job and would be there as soon as possible, but that they couldn't say when. Bob Collins and his apprentice showed up at 12:30. They were very helpful and spent extra time clearing the blockages. While one was working on clearing the line the other took time to help me with some other small questions around my house including why I was getting low water pressure from my bathroom sink (I needed to clean the aerator). All in all the plumbers were courteous, helpful and did a decent job cleaning up after themselves.
Description of Work: The cleaned the main sewer line from clean out valve to sewer main using a roto-rooter. It took several passes and blade changes due to the density of the roots in the line.

HE SAID THAT PROBABLY DURING THE WINTER. THE SYSTEM WOULD STRUGGLE TO COME ON AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO FLIP THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO TURN IT ON SOMETIMES AND OTHER TIMES IT WOULD JUST TRIP ITSELF. When the blower motor on my A/C unit quit, I called ARS to give me a second opinion (no charge per their coupon). I called on Saturday. I said that this wasn't an emergency, but she said someone would come out on Sunday. The technician seemed unfriendly. He asked to see the first estimate. Then he said that since the estimate was from mid-January, he doubted the coupon for a free 2nd opinion would be valid since it was June. Then he said that he couldn't take the coupon because 2nd opinions were only given for specific things such as heat exchangers. I pointed out that the coupon did not say that. He finally agreed to honor the coupon. Then said that his estimate was only valid if I agreed to let him do the work that day. If not, it was invalid and I'd be charged $85 to have someone do another diagnostic eval if I wanted it done. Also, there was a $100 access fee for him to get into his shop on a Sunday to get the parts he needed! He lectured me on my delay in getting this job done!

From the camera view there was no question that the roots existed. The quality of the work done on the sewers was good and those repair people were easy to deal with. The repairman who ran the snake in the toilet did not tighten the bolts and the toilet leaked. Two men came to repair it at no charge and fixed it in five minutes (behind a closed door). Later the bolts that held the tank to the bowl leaked. I had someone else repair that. My main difficulty with this company was with the pricing. I was given an estimate of one amount which was increased to the exact amount for which my credit had been approved. I had wanted to go through other means to pay for the cost because of the high interest rate on their card, but I was told that my sewer system would not last long enough for me to get that approval (a week). I felt very pressured. When my son stepped in it was no longer necessary for me to have the entire system replaced and the amount of the final charge was reduced.
Description of Work: They came out to see why the plumbing was backing up. They pulled my toilet and ran a snake down it and said that because of tree roots blockage I would need to replace a great part of my sewer system. They replaced the toilet, leaving a dirty wall where the snake had come up with roots, and three days later came out to replace my sewers.

BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ADDITIONAL WORK, A PRICE WAS QUOTED TO THE CUSTOMERS SON, NEGOTIATED TO AN AGREED AMOUNT, AND APPROVAL WAS GIVEN TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. A FULL REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE SEWER SYSTEM WASN’T QUOTED. DUE TO THE SEWER NOT FUNCTIONING, AND THE CUSTOMER STATING THAT IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT A WEEK TO OBTAIN BANK FINANCING, WE OFFERED TO FINANCE THE WORK AND SHE COULD PAY IT OFF AS SOON AS SHE RECEIVED THE BANK FINANCING. Our first contact was Bob, who cleaned out the sewer. He suggested that we have the sewer inspected by camera. This was done by Rob who showed us we needed a new sewer line. The crew that was sent consisted of Brandon, the excavator, Brian (his helper), Casey, the plumber and another helper. We were told that the job would be done professionally and that the work areas would be cleaned up at the end. The work was done beyond our expectations. Casey's work in the basement was nothing short of beautiful with neat plumbing and a clean area when finished (including carrying up the dirt from the sump hole). They all wore "booties" over their shoes whenever coming into the house from outside. Brandon and crew worked very well outside and also did a fine job digging the trench, laying the sewer line, and back-filling. They finished by raking the lawn as best as they could to remove excess soil from the lawn. The entire crew was professional, helpful and courteous.
Description of Work: We first suspected trouble when we had a flooded basement after a recent very heavy rain. We called ARS Rescue Rooter to clean out our sewer line. ARS Rescue Rooter then used a camera to show that our sewer line was in need of replacement. Because, of a change in building codes, we also had to install a basement sump pump, not needed before. The entire job took three long days starting with trenching (7 feet deep) in our front yard and breaking up an area of basement floor. The new sewer line was run in a different manner from the old (suggested by the plumber) which would insure good draining. The plumber also suggested the best way to lay the discharge pipe from the sump pump. The outside work required a back hoe and a Bobcat. When the job was finished, the entire work area, both inside and out was swept clean. The crew went out of their way to answer all our questions and to explain thoroughly everything they were doing. We felt comfortable having them around.

Work on the drain went fine. However their promptness wasn't as good. Said they would have a technician at the house between 9:00 and 10:00. At 9:30 I called and asked if the technician would be there and response was that he was on his way. At 9:45 technician called and asked me where the house was located. Technician finally showed up at 10:30. Said the map he had did not show the streets. In this day and age, I would have thought they would be using Map Quest or a GPS system to locate places. Asked about the 9:00 to 10:00 window I was given and technician said that is an approximate time.
Description of Work: Cleaned out a toilet drain which wasn't open all the way.

Overall, they helped when no one else would. Service man was excellent. Very professional.
Description of Work: Line at sump pump ruptured causing water to pump into crawlspace. They came out on a Saturday when no one else would or could. One of the companies in Angie;s list said they were swamped with calls but suggested ARS. ARS guy waded through crawl and temporarily fixed problem. Came out the following week and put in new sump pump and new connections.

We were very pleased with their response, efficiency and courtesy (especially at 2:00am). We appreciated their discussing charges in initial phone call, including options for them coming at once or waiting until the morning (a Sunday). He even gave us the 15% discount offered in their ad in March 2007 Angie's List publication.
Description of Work: We took a faucet on a bathtub off to replace a washer as there was a drip. Unfortunately, we didn't start this project until 1:00 am. We were not able to get the faucet back on and hot water was streaming from the faucet. We called this company. They reassembled the faucet, and it was fixed.

ARS will not provide a quote over the phone. The quality of work done was average (the plumber did not install the legs of the sink properly, so we can't level the sink) and the price was high. The original quote was $738. My husband does not normally handle the service calls at our house, so he didn't realize how abnormal this price was and authorized the work. Previous other sinks in bathrooms have been removed and new ones installed (by other plumbers) for $250-$350. I called their office to resolve without any luck. I then wrote a letter to the CEO in Memphis and to the Indpls office GM and was promptly contacted and sent a $211 refund. It did take several weeks to receive the refund, but I appreciate that they value their customers and aim for customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: Needed a plastic utility sink (already purchased) with two water supply valves installed in our laundry room. The plumbing to the laundry room was already existing. We used them for HVAC service previously and had been pleased with them and wanted to give them the business for the plumbing as well. It is a $55 service call fee to come out, which I understood.
