I selected 6 HVAC companies to provide me with their opinions and estimates to replace our gas furnace and to upgrade our AC unit to a heat pump. John Wobser came to the house and was the only one who focused on meeting our comfort needs rather than just trying to sell us new equipment. In fact, he wouldn't give us a quote until after he had someone come to the house the next morning to asses the duct work we needed. John was very thorough and patient in answering our many questions and helped us determine the best combination of features for us. We signed the order and scheduled the installation. The two guys who showed up to install the equipment were VERY knowledgeable and experienced. They spent two days here and were a delight to be with. Several days later when we called to express a concern, the same two guys came out to address the concern and then tested the temperature in each room of our two-story house. There was a 1.8 degree difference between the coldest and warmest room.
Description of Work: Installation of replacement gas furnace and heat pump. Rework of ducts in attic to fix temperature imbalances between room.

The last inspection of the service was not satisfactory. The furnace filter and screens I think should have been changed. This caused my humidifier to leak. In the past I have had a good experience with this company. I think it might have been the guy they sent out this past time.

We've had maintenance contracts with them for years. They come out every 6 months to service our a/c and furnace.
Description of Work: They put a new condensing coil in our unit and they replaced the big air conditioning unit with a heat pump air conditioner. This saves our furnace and our gas.

The technician was polite and explained things well. He also tested my water pressure and indicated that it was high and this causes additional stress on the water heater. He indicated that this would be common in the entire neighborhood. After his assessment, he called their office and another employee trucked out a new water heater. He installed it fairly quickly after this. It looks like he did a good job, overall. Hot water is flowing fine. Also, their responsiveness was excellent. They were able to send a technician out within two hours and installed a new water heater within a couple of hours (this includes delivery time of new water heater). My only compliant is that the price seems a little high. The $990 cost was for the new water heater/installation. It comes with 1 yr. warranty for labor and 6 year warranty for the unit. I could have purchased ten year warranty for additional $150.00. However, it also reflects the 15% off Angie's List discount and a $59 service call charge.
Description of Work: In the morning I woke up to find that water heater in garage had formed a lead and was spilling water. Shut of water valve and gas line, then called ARS. They came out in about two hours and assessed the condition of the existing water heater. The technician stated that it was unrepairable and recommended installation of new water heater. Therefore, he installed a new water heater.

When Jonas checked the line, he found that it had broken between the house and the connection to the larger line. The break made a dip and interrupted the downward slope, and water and waste had formed a pool. This explained why when we ran the washing machine the water would back up into the house. Jonas explained how the workers would do the work and how much they would clean up. The workers ripped off a major branch from a tree because it was in their way; we were not warned of this possibility, and the tree was abused more than necessary. They ruined more grass than was necessary, and the guy who poured gravel into the hole was careless (they came back to clean up part of it). When they dug around the connection to the larger line, they found that they had to do more work, increasing the price 25%.
Description of Work: They dug up the sewer line from our house to the connection with the larger line and replaced it. They also replaced the "checkpoint" and installed an additional one.

The plumber was wonderful for being woke up so early. Added bonus, Mr. Cobb gave us a name of a company that could fix all the water damage.
Description of Work: The hot water pipe connecting to the washing machine "came apart" and the house got flooded at 4:30 am November 7, 2007. ARS was called and the plumber got to the house by 5:20 AM and fixed the pipe.

During routine testing of our furnace's, ARS discovered carbon monoxide leaking from our upstairs furnace. I asked ARS to give us a price on a premium replacement furnace. ARS was early for the appointment. ARS gave us a reasonable price for the new furnace and included an extra year of inspection/cleanings because we are an old customer. ARS gave us an addition 5% discount if we would have the work done the next day filling a service hole they had in there schedule. ARS also included a discount on 5 years of annual checks/maintenance of both of our HVAC systems. ARS arrived on time and completed the work in a very satisfactory manner. The clean up of the area was excellent.
Description of Work: The work included in the price was the replacement of a 22 year old furnace with a new Bryant, premium furnace. The work included the removal of the old furnace and the replacement of the thermostat. The price also included 5 years of annual maintenance on our two furnace/air conditioners.

This was a miserable experience. They screwed up the scheduling twice; the technician came for the first appointment without the thermostat; he left his refrigerant tools at the house &had to come back, at our inconvenience. They didn't seem to know which way was up - they couldn't give me a good answer on why the thermostat wasn't available; I requested for another technician to come for the follow-up repair/install - they agreed to send a supervisor and different senior technician. That instruction was also mishandled by the office - the same technician showed up -- 1.5 hours late (after the dispatch had confirmed his arrival time, though the office manager then claimed she shouldn't have done that, as the call was for a window from 2-4 p.m). Finally, for the THIRD call, they got it right, though the technician was 1/2 hour late (this time, after the planned window!). They did take 15% off the repair/installation order at my request. But, overall, their organization is poor.
Description of Work: ARS came out for my annual heating cleaning. They were also supposed to install a programmable thermostat for my geothermal heat pump - this had been ordered during the Spring inspection and was confirmed at time of scheduling the appointment in October. During the October inspection, they found a leaky service valve for the A/C and recommended replacing. So, this report covers that repair as well.

One way I rate a company is by noting the equipment, or lack of equipment when they come to do a job. This company, ARS, has the equipment and the men know how to use it. Of course they have to be insured, bonded, etc. While all this was impressive, I was disheartened when I saw the total cost. However, I am happy with the results of having a complete new sewer. They still have some landscaping to do and road patching. They are prompt, courteous, clean and professional people so far. I am having a hard time getting used to the $12,800 cost of this job. To me, as a retiree, it just seems like a lot of money. Use them. They are good but not cheap.
Description of Work: Replaced entire sewer line from my house to the main sewer line in the street. Pipe burst from curb to sewer main in the street (approximately 20-25 feet). The distance from my house to the curb is approximately 30 feet for a total of 50-55 feet of new sewer line. The weather was good. They used all safety precautions. They were courteous, an amiable crew, who worked hard and, in my opinion, were very experienced in this type of work.

He showed up shortly after the office called to tell us he was coming. He was clean, polite, knowledgeable and friendly. He listened to our story and determined that the top element should be replaced, and the thermostat would also be replaced automatically. He gave us the option of replacing the lower element as well, and gave us prices. Because the water heater was 13 years old, we decided to replace it. It took a while for the new heater to be delivered, but while we were waiting he prepared the old heater for removal and answered our questions regarding other plumbing issues. Once the new heater was delivered, he worked steadily to install it while answering other questions that came to our minds as well.
Description of Work: Shannon diagnosed the problem and then replaced our water heater after we compared costs.

Air Trol is great to work with. They always wear covers on their shoes and are very polite and professional. We have had minor issues with the new systems. They always come out the same day and fix the problem. I highly recommend Air Trol.
Description of Work: We had been having alot of trouble with our air conditioner and furnaces. Air Trol had come out and serviced our 14 year old systems many times and we were always very satisfied with them. We had Air Trol replace the old systems with 2 new heat pumps and 2 new furnaces.

They schedule service and they are pretty good at arriving at the appointed time. They check for any problems that they see might occur. They leave it up to me to replace it before or wait until it goes out. They are very careful when they come into the house, they cover their feet with booties. I have never really had trouble with my heating or A/C. They are alert to any possible problems. I have a service contract with them.
Description of Work: They did my annual check of my heating and A/C. They have for the last 8 years. I have stuck with them because they originally installed the unit.

During our fall furnace checkup the technician noted that there was a crack in the heat exchanger of our gas furnace in the attic and told us that it was dangerous and needed to be replaced. We were able to have the work done within a week. It looked like a very dirty and difficult job that took the technician 3 hours of hard labor. We appreciated that the company was able to get the part and get the work done so quickly.

They charged an extra hundred dollars to get into the crawl space. The prices were VERY high for this job. Their service has always been good, but I feel with shopping around, I could have gotten this job done for at least 100 dollars less.
Description of Work: They repaired an outdoor spigot that had froze and was leaking. It was one that came off an area in the crawlspace.

I could tell Allen knew his stuff (I'm the daughter of a former heating and A/C contractor). He was very thorough, professional and courteous.
Description of Work: Allen made a follow-up service call related to a service I had done by ARS the previous week. He spent almost two hours going over my heat pump from top to bottom. He discovered it had previously been overfilled with Freon.

Replaced old furnace and central air/heat pump. Attempted repair of old unit, stated at repair time that unit was probably to old to keep working very long. Repair lasted just 24 hours. Sent a representative to quote prices for new unit next day (Saturday). Obtained financing for me and installed unit on Monday. Just two days later. Gave me a discount for Angie's List since I first used it as my reference over six months ago on furnace repair. Also discounted all of the money I paid for the a/c repair that didn't last. Stated that quoted price was fixed no matter how much extra work was needed. Arrived on time and said that they would have to replace the ductwork around the furnace unit. All was replaced and even added an additional cold air return. Excellent service and honesty. Cleaned up area where work preformed. Final price was quoted price. NO EXTRA CHARGES for all the additional work done. Will always call them in the future.

They pressured me to buy the new unit ac, the estimate that they gave me to repair the old unit was so high as well. I wanted to delay to get my finances in order for a couple of days. He told me that I had to pay all at once. If I did not finance it with him, pressuring me into pay it all at once. According to other price, the total was price was to high for what they installed. The other estimates for the same unit were at least 1000 dollars lest than what they charged me.

Great! I am so thankful! Came home to no a/c on Thursday evening. 86 degrees in my house. Called numerous companies for service on Friday, most laughed at me, as they were booked out, due to heat wave. No a/c all day and night Friday, was 92 degrees in the house late in the day. Got up Saturday (am) and just started calling companies on Angie's List. Air-Trol was one of two companies out of 8 that I called, that called me back. The other company clearly didn't want to come out on a Saturday, although their ad says they do service 24/7. Air-Trol staff called back within 30 minutes, determined the parts I needed and even had their supply house open on Saturday, so that they could get the parts for me. They arrived before noon and I am back to cooling my house. Thank you so much! I will probably go with a service plan with them, as well, they have a discount, if you pay up to 3 years ahead. Again, THANKS!

We have used ARS twice this summer of plumbing problems and have found them to be easy to work with. Each time they arrived at the arranged time, were cheerful, and ready to work. The repairs were done in less than an hour and any mess they made was cleaned up. Both plumbers told us the price of the service and suggested we use a coupon which took off the $59 service fee. At the last visit I had purchased a faucet that did not match the pre-existing hook up. The plumber explained what needed to be done to use it, which would have cost a lot more money. The choice was mine and he was willing do whatever I wanted. We choose to just replace the part with one that he had on his truck. We appreciated his frankness and honesty.
