ARS did a great job start to finish. Our furnace went out and it had been freezing in my home. ARS came out on 11/13/12 to give us an estimate on a new gas 95% efficient furnace. The rep answered all of our questions and pointed out that our old furnace was not even up to code. It was in fact meant for a mobile home. He discussed all options with us and took in to account my concern for gas heat. He talked to me about the new safety features on furnaces and how they could help us save money on our monthly bills. He did a great job of working with us to reach a price that we could afford. He did not try to sell us any extras which I really appreciate. The amazing thing is that the work was schedule for the very next day. Talk about prompt service! The crew came out the next morning around 11am and were gone by 3pm. They installed the new furnace, cleaned out all of our air ducts, replaced all pipes with pvc, installed a new plenum and flu as well. They also installed a new area for our furnace filter because the old design was not up to code or efficient. They were friendly and answered all of our questions. They cleaned everything up and were out in a few hours. I am more than impressed with this company! I will continue to use them for my annual service check ups and when I decide to replace my water heater in the near furnace.
Description of Work: ARS installed a new Amana furnace in my home, including replacing pipes, plenum, flu, and building a new base for the unit. They also cleaned our air ducts.

We went through 4 to 6 weeks of getting bids from other companies and evaluating their price, product, knowledge level, and service. While there was some friction at times due to us asking so many detailed questions, in the end we felt more comfortable overall with ARS. Once we made the decision they were ready to go. The installation went very smoothly. They had to remove a furnace from the second floor and one from the basement, and both were removed without a mark on the wall or any problems. The technicians were very careful, courteous, and knowledgeable about their products. All of the work, both removed both of the old furnaces and air conditioners, and installing the new, was completed in 2 days. While ARS was not the lease expensive of the 3 companies providing a bid, we have used them for many years and felt very comfortable with them for service issues. We had on our old, and have on our new equipment, a 10 year parts and labor warranty. In every case over the last 10 years, when we had any issues, a technician was dispatched in a very short time frame. We have heard stories from neighbors waiting days for service when the AC or the furnace failed.
Description of Work: ARS removed 2 old furnaces and air conditioners, and installed 2 new furnaces and air conditioners, UV lights on the furnaces, electronic air filers, and new digital thermometers. .

It went well; Kirk took the effort to explain to the homeowner what he was doing and why.
Description of Work: Kirk was very thorough in tuning up the furnace as well as checking the humidifier in the crawl space. He found that the humidifier was not turned on; I'm glad he found that before the winter heating season began in earnest.

The work went well and the workmen advised me on every step. Their work was professional and methodical in locating the leak and very genial towards my wife and I. The work was done quickly and correctly and I would hire the company again for any plumbing related issues. A job well done.
Description of Work: They tracked down a leak that was occurring on the drain pipe. They eventually found the leak in a closet wall that was caused by the builder when they put a nail through the pipe when hanging a wire shelf that eventually rusted enough to unseal the hole. The leak was patched and all is well.

We trust the guys and really depend on them.
Description of Work: We've used them for years. We've used them for different things but primarily for heating and cooling. Every spring they check out our AC and every winter they check out the furnace. Recently, a salesman with ARS came out this spring and analyzed our AC and recommend we didn't buy a new one, just to buy a part.

The first time they came out I thought it turned out fine. They will be coming out a second time very soon. They are courteous and professional. I asked a lot of questions; they showed me the parts and explained to me why they were doing what they were doing and what parts they were using, which I really liked. I have no complaints.

SUMMARY: ARS/Airtroll made us stew in 105F + temperatures for over 2 weeks before denying our warranty and then expecting us to pay for the repair. In 2005, we purchased a Carrier Infinity (top of the line) heat pump system with a parts and labor extended warranty from Airtroll. On 6/30/12, the heat pump system suddenly went dead. I called a contractor (not ARS/Airtroll) for repair under the warranty. The technician found a blown fuse on the main circuit board, and deduced that something must have blown the fuse, but he could not find the problem. After inserting a fuse, the heat pump came on and worked for 3 more days. On July 3rd the problem reoccurred. The previous contractor could not come in a timely fashion, so I called ARS/Airtroll (after about 2007 Airtroll was bought out by ARS). The FIRST ARS/Airtroll technician found damage to the circuit board and wiring harness. I suggested that something must have caused such serious damage, but he refused to check further until a new circuit board was installed (bad idea). Several days passed while parts were ordered, and then reordered. Meanwhile we are baking in the 105F+ outside temperatures! On July 9, a SECOND technician arrived to install the parts and immediately there were 2 bright sparks which damaged the circuit board. After I insisted he examine the outside compressor unit, he found extensive additional electrical damage including the compressor itself. He said that occasionally when a compressor fails, it damages other electrical components. However, a THIRD technician had to come to verify the damage, and he told me the Carrier compressor was under a RECALL. More parts were supposedly ordered, and were scheduled for installation Monday July 16. I was told the parts were on the way. Days pass in the 100+ heat! Then I am told there was a delay and the parts won?t arrive until Wednesday. On Wednesday July 18, I am NOW told (by Everett, the parts manager) that no parts were ordered since Carrier has denied my warranty. The reason, I am told, is that I voided my warranty by not having annual service, but I replied that on 2 different occasions Artroll technicians told me I did not need to get the annual service. THEN he said the real reason the warranty was denied was that the damage was due to lightning!! I told him that this was ridiculous because 1) the compressor is admittedly defective, 2) lightning would have had to hit twice out of a clear blue sky and 3) I was home both times and there were no lightning strikes. Furthermore, when I lived in Pennsylvania, I had an IDENTICAL problem (massive electrical damage) and the president of the contractor admitted that the damage was indeed caused by a current/voltage surge when the Carrier compressor failed. Despite explaining this, Everett still insisted that I would have to pay for the repair, but that I should CLAIM a lightning strike under my homeowner?s warranty even though I knew it was untrue! After complaining to Carrier, they steered us to a new contractor, who fixed the problem in ONE DAY under our warranty because (of course) there was NO lightning damage.
Description of Work: Parts: A new wiring harness was provided under warranty. A new main circuit board was installed, but it was destroyed by the technician during the install procedure.Service: 3 service visits which did not fix the problem.

We had an issue with ARS a few months back about not showing up. They issued us a $50 credit towards our next service. We should have know better to even give them a second chance. They had the same problem being late and after they performed the service of our unit, they will not call us back to take the $50 off this service. We have left several messages, but no response

I've always requested the same individual who learned my specific needs and who knew my house and was able to accommodate me. The service representative was absolutely top flight and excellent to work with, that' why we stayed with them. Everything they needed to do, they did. I did not have a bad experience.

Everything has turned out fairly well. Sometimes they are a little slow to respond but recently our central air went out and they saw we had a maintenance contract so they pulled us to the front during the difficult times with the weather. They weren't able to resolve the issue immediately but it was beyond their control and we got it handled. Also, the service man would get an A but the sales person was less than personable.

The work of the technicians(Lex and Glenn) was efficient and professional. My concerns are in two areas: 1) scheduling. I began getting calls as early as March to do the ac service. At that time, I notified the caller that I would schedule once we had used the air conditiioning for at least a week. However, weekly, I got a call from ARS at annoying times; I did not answer but no message was left. Alas, in mid-May I called to schedule the appointment but I wasn't able to be scheduled until May 29.;I did ask that the annoying phone calls be stopped and they were. But several days before May 29 I received a phone message that the appointment was changed to June 6 in order to accommodate those without cooling over the Memorial Day weekend. (This is one of my big concerns about being on a maintenance plan- your "loyalty" is already bought so the current customer's service is delayed in order to acquire new customers. and serve those who haven't been conscientious about keeping equipment in good conditiion.) 2) Pricing. As a customer, I would like to have more information upfront. In order to analyze the cost effectiveness of the maintenance plan, prices are needed. The technician does the service call and then goes to the truck and comes back with the maintenance statement showing what you are to pay. Usually there is a pitch to get on the maintenance plan or to extend; what I was given as to the terms/pricing of the maintenance plan was vague when I agreed to it last fall. When I asked Glenn for a breakdown on the flat charge of $125, he had some thoughts about things included but was not provided with the specifics and thus could not provide the breakdown. I began calling ARS on June 14 requesting this breakdown; a message was to be given to "Pam". No response was received so I recall that around the 18th, I called again leaving a voicemail message requesting a call. Still no response . Another request was made via voicemail on Friday June 22 . So in response to the ARS phone survey, I did not rate ARS as high as they would have hoped. Again, I emphasize , none of my concerns are in regard to the technicians; both Lex and Glenn were very professional
Description of Work: ARS Rescue Rooter makes two visits annually- one for preparation for heating season and one for cooling season. New filters are installed at each visit. When the cooling season service call was made, Lex cleaned that outside unit so much more thoroughly than any technician has done.(A special thank you to Lex for that hint about white lithium spray for the screen door- it worked!) However, soon thereafter, the fan motor began making a growling noise; ARS returned a day later to diagnose it as worn bearings on the fan motor. The part had to be ordered. Luckily, the unit was still under the parts warranty as it is less than five years old; this causes me to lose confidence in the Carrier brand. We didn't incur any charge for the part but was assessed a $125. flat labor charge to install it which was done one week later.The fan continued to function so we were fortunate not to be without air conditioining over this period. Glenn was efficient in diagnosing the problem as well as correcting the problem even though he was working on extended hours

They had originally installed the heating and cooling system. We will never deal with them again. The price was horrible considering the amount of problems we had. Their incompetence was unbelievable.

We called this company on a Saturday afternoon regarding a plugged toilet drain at one of our rental houses. His estimate was $450.00 for the first hour and $70.00 an hour after that. We declined the services, called another Angie's list provider and he promptly came out, fixed the problem, and charged us $140.00. What a scam artist! I worry that some unsuspecting older person would get taken!
Description of Work: He analyzed the problem and gave us a quotation to unplug a toilet drain.

ARS has reviewed the invoice our tech submitted to the customer and it clearly states the quoted price of $350 to remove the toilet, clean the main sewer line, and re-install the toilet. We are not sure where the quote of $450 plus $70 an hour after comes from. ARS is unclear what work the other company performed for $140.00 and therefore we are unable to compare the work and prices. The quote for the sewer cleaning was a free estimate and there were no charges to the customer. ARS sincerely apologizes to our customer for the confusion this may have caused.

Late to start Charged me $338 on top of the tune up charges for parts that I can find for $35
Description of Work: The technician was supposed to arrive between 8:00 and 10:00 for a A/C and a furnace tune up. He arrived at 10:22 AM and I didn't know that it would take more than 4 hours to do this job (I wish someone would have told me earlier).For the Tune up of the A/C + the furnace, I was suppose to pay $69 +$59 =$128 + Tax.After a quick check, the technician told me that the capacitor on the central air fan was too low and should be replaced. The capacitor was charged $137 ( I can find the exact same one for $13 online and it doesn't take 5 minutes to replace)He asked me the same question for the capacitor on the AC unit outside and the capacitor was charged $201 (I can find the exact same one online for around $22 and it doesn't take 5 minutes to replace).Bottom line, even if they would have doubled the price of the parts and added a normal technician time it should not have reached more than $100 making a total around $250. Instead I am paying twice as much => $480!

Everything has mostly been ok. They’re a bit aggressive with wanting to do further work. I also don’t appreciate them wanting us to do the annual contract. Their customers pay in advance, and then they offer specials throughout the year that are cheaper than what was paid.

The Technician that came out, Rick Runyan was the one that originally installed the water heater, did a great job. I paid for the labor and additional things he recommended but the water heater was under warranty. He gave me additional tips on an expansion tank for the water heater that should make my water heater last longer. He was very thorough and explained everything.
