+ -1 moreThey were very prompt in contacting us to schedule an appointment once we bought the Big Deal. They were easy to schedule with and arrived on time on the date we agreed on. The crew came and got to work right away, and the manager spoke with me about the scope of services for the deal. I mentioned that a couple of shingles had blown off our roof, and he said he could have his crew take care of it at no additional charge. I also requested a quote for a whole roof replacement, which was sent in writing and via email within a few days.Overall, it was a very positive experience, and we are very likely to use this vendor again in the future,
Description of Work: We bought a roof tune up through a Big Deal. The deal covered an inspection of the roof with repair of minor issues and an assessment of any major issues there might be.

He was thorough and took pictures to show me what was going on. He explained things really well and I appreciate that. He was able to perform the repair with no delay and my roof is doing great. I am really happy with this whole process and I would definitely use this company for any future repairs or when it is time to replace.

He & his co-worker (I'm sorry I forget his name) went above & beyond the call. There were several things on the roof that needed attention beyond what was included in the deal & they took care of everything. I was having some personal issues that day & they were very kind & helpful. Sometime soon I will need to have my roof replaced & I will certainly call them to do it.
Description of Work: The deal included roof winterization tune up including sealing which is what they did.

Description of Work: We purchased the $99 special Roof Winterization Tune Up that was offered on Angies List. It took several weeks to get our appointment scheduled as they did not call us promptly as promised. They re-scheduled once and then tried to reschedule again the day or two prior to the final agreed upon date. When he showed up to do the work his caulking gun didn't work and he left for nearly an hour to get a new one. When he returned, he was on the roof less than 45 minutes and then came down telling us that our roof was in very bad shape and needed to be replaced immediately. He provided some photos and a fully completed estimate. I knew there was one small spot on the roof that needed to be repaired and had pointed it out to him prior to his starting to do the tune-up. He tried to get me to sign on for the roof replacement while he was there, but I said I would need to discuss with my spouse. He urged me not to wait as it would not be good to go through the winter without doing the repairs. He called back the following week and offered to drop his price by 5% if we would agree to get started, once again reminding us of the severity of the poor roof condition. I had already called two other companies to come out and give me a competitive quote. We did not want to sign with AJ until we got the quotes. Today (12/10/12) Bone Dry Roofing came out and looked over the roof. They advised that there was nothing wrong with the roof with the exception of the small spot that I already knew about. They said once that was fixed we could easily wait 2 years before considering a new roof. While I can not prove it without going on the roof myself, I have doubts that AJ even gave us the Tune Up we paid for. They either do not know what they are doing regarding roofs or they were in dire need of work and tried their hardest to talk us into a new roof that we do not need. I would urge everyone to be very cautious when hiring these people to perform work. The $99 tune up price was excellent, IF the work was actually performed.

AJ, aka, Josh Hill, personally inspected our roof that was nine years old as of May 15, 2012. His verbal report of the inspection and photographs indicated the roof lacked the felt paper and several nail heads were uncovered and apparently we had received a shoddy job from our builder as reported to us by AJ. Hill agreed to document everything in writing and include the photos he took. After several email communication exchanges as to how soon the preceding report would be available to us the communications ceased. A couple of months passed and he was sent an email notifying him that Angie had requested a report from us of our experience and we notified Hill of this combined with the fact we were unhappy with his performance and we expected a reply immediately. Hill answered a few days later indicating he had not received our numerous preceding emails and he would get everything to us. This has still not been done as we speak and other than the two or three trips he initiated to review his findings by again looking at our roof we have not received any report (other than his written quote for replacing our roof) verbal or otherwise nor has he ever performed any of the actual physical work described in his original offer through Angie’s List. Consequently we have expended $149.00 for meaningless trivia from Hill with only our nightmarish memories of this ordeal … not a rewarding experience or value for us.

+ -1 moreWe were very happy with the service provided by AJ Construction & Roofing. We purchased a Big Deal through Angie's List for roof winterization. The company contacted us within a week to schedule the service, and were able to put us on the schedule within two weeks. It ended up sleeting on the day we scheduled, so they were not able to do the work that day, but they called first thing in the morning to reschedule so we were not waiting around all day. They showed up on time on the day we rescheduled for, and did the work specified in the Big Deal. We knew that our roof was old and in need of replacement soon, so while they were doing the winterization work we asked for a quote to replace the entire roof. They gave us a quote and even included pictures so we could see the condition of the roof. The quote was reasonable so we decided to hire them to replace the roof. Their communication was great throughout the entire process. They showed up on time and were very professional. They were honest about the costs and put everything in writing. Our roof was done quickly and it looks great! I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing roofing work done.

+ -1 moreJosh took a team approach to the entire project, from scheduling supplies, to the crew, to the final "walk through". I felt informed about every aspect of the process. I also appreciated the care that was shown to my property. Windows were covered to protect then from breakage, as well as the plants and yard art. Each night when work was finished for the day, the driveway was swept and refuse removed from the yard. I feel this company went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. I would hire this company again and highly recommend AJ Construction and Roofing.
Description of Work: Purchased Angie's List Big Deal to have the roof winterized. Josh took pictures and explained the service to be performed on the roof. In addition, he provided an overall evalaution of the condition of the roof, suggesting that it might last another 1 to 3 years. Having experenced a leak during a previous ice storm, I also inquired about roof replacement. Josh provided an estimate for removal and disposal of the current roof and replacement with higher grade shingles, venting, etc. The roof was completely replaced in 2 and a half days and looks great!

+ -1 moreThis is a very busy but small company. The overwhelmed requests for their service kept a long waiting list for services. We waited for 2 weeks. At the end, they found their time to complete the job with profesionlism and good records. Similar to many other construction companies, it is hard to predict the time of work completion so it will be a good idea to have the field person communicating with the customer. As a small company, they are very friendly and nicer in accommadating the customers' request.

+ -1 moreWent fantastic, a crew of three showed up ON TIME and were very professional in their inspection and resealing of the vents and other areas of the roof. They also replaced a single shingle that had blown off and cauked around several others along the same roof edge. The roof condition life estimation of 10 - 15 years shows that this was not being used as an opportunity for them to sell a new roof, but to provide a really needed service of a full inspection and cauking / resealing of the current shingles. We would definately contact them if we were to have a roof issue in future, and will have them back for another inspection in a few years.
Description of Work: Big Deal - Roof Inspection which included cauking around all of the vents, renailing loose shingles, cauking along roof edges and general inspecition of the roof and an overall condition rreport.

However, the product he had would not fit as the house is almost 50-years old and sizes have changed. He showed me the correct replacement pieces, but explained he would have to purchase them and return. He arrived early on the second day to complete the job. Josh was professional, personable, and we will be having him back in the spring to replace and very aging roof, put on the house about five years before we bought the home 17-years-ago. Even without Josh's expert analysis, it is easy to observe the roof needs to be replaced. I recommend AJ Roofing highly to people wanting a job professionally done by a very fine gentleman.

+ -1 moreFirst, after a lot of emailing, we finally got to a date where the representative could come to inspect the roof, after cancelling a couple times. When the gentleman finally came and inspected the roof, he said there wasn't really much he could do to perform repairs as there had already been some done incorrectly. He did say there were some nail pops that he could do as well as some minor shingle repairs that he could do. He told me that he would get back up on the roof and do those repairs before he left. He said that we would need a new roof between now and three years. We knew that, so weren't overly surprised. When he showed me pictures of the roof on his i-phone, while he was scrolling through the pictures, there was a picture of an unclothed male body part that showed up, and I was totally offended. He then left, and since he told me that he would be going back up on the roof to do the repairs, I was very surprised to see him go to his truck, get in, and drive away. After a few weeks of constant emailing and calling, they finally sent a couple of younger gentleman to do the repairs. They did go up on the roof, but I am not sure that anything was really done. Due to the obscene picture being presented to me, I would say that the professionalism of this company is not in line with what I would want to deal with. Also, the gentleman completely not doing what he said he was going to do leads me to believe that this company cannot be trusted. Bottom line, I would never want to deal with a company that I felt was shady and would not provide the services that were expected and/or paid for.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal to inspect the roof and perform minor repairs as indicated.

+ -1 moreI simply wanted a quote. For the first appointment I was stood up. I wasted an hour of my time, which I really didn't have to spare. The second appointment he was late - I had to call him and wait an extra 15-20 minutes before he arrived. About a week or so later I received a call from the secretary with a verbal price quote, but was told it wouldbe a month before they could get to the job. I never received a writtenquote and I haven't heard from them since. That was over a month ago. Not happy at all and it is disappointing because they came very highly recommended. The excuses I received were due to an illness, but I don't understand why that is my problem, especially since all I was requestingwas a quote. I hadn't even decided to use them.

+ -1 moreI first scheduled an appointment for 2/8/2012 for 9:00 a.m. but they called me that morning and changed it to 3:30 p.m They called again and cancelled the entire appointment. I scheduled another appointment for 2/9/2012 and that one was also cancelled due to the weather I think. I scheduled one more appointment and this one was again cancelled due to sickness. They finally came out to my house on 2/16/2012. A. J. Construction did some minor repairs on my roof. My roof is approx 6-7 years old and the Company told me that I would need a new roof within 3-4 years because the Company that installed it did not do it correctly. I'm not sure about this Company because I'm not a roofer. They could be right but due to the cancellations and not sending me my paperwork as promised made me not feel comfortable about using them in the future. They stated that I would receive a statement on the work they did within 2 weeks and I had to call twice before they finally sent it to me which I think was sometime in April.

Then, a few days after that form was filled out my husband called and left a message on their answering machine because we hadn't heard back yet. About 10 days after I filled out the form, a lady called and apologized for not getting back to us; the form had somehow gotten misplaced. I asked her if we were in their service area and was assured that our home was and said she would schedule someone to come out that week if possible to do the estimate. She mentioned that we didn't need to be home for the estimate. That was the last we heard from this company
Description of Work: The work would have been a complete roof tear-off for my house and detached garage. New shingles and venting installed in both structures. We had 2 estimates already but there was around $3,000.00 difference in price, so we wanted a 3rd estimate to get an idea of the true scope of the project.

They were care full not to damage the land scape around the house. They cleaned up all trashes and nails after the job got done. I am very pleased with their service, professional attitude, quality and keeping their promises. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: My in-law’s roof was damaged due to the hail storm during early part of March 2012. Recently, the roof leaked after a heavy rain and thunderstorm. We spoke a couple times about this but we never got an appointment. When I talked them, they were really good - I just wish we make contact regarding the remaining portion of the work.
