Stonycreek Farm Nursery & Landscaping

Stonycreek was the low bidder, but when quality and workmanship problems occurred, Loren was not easy to work with. He was very stubborn, resistant and argumentative. That forced us to get second and third opinions (all agreed with our assessment) and put additional pressure on them to fix the problems. We had to threaten the use of our attorney before they relented and decided to come back and fix the problems. Lesson learned: the low bidder may not be the best choice.

Contacted Loren and scheduled date for estimate. Originally we planned on installing Trees, and a drain pipe as well but decided to wait until the fall. Loren arrived on time and diligently measured amount of mulch required. Loren provided estimate about a week later and scheduled a date approx a week after that to have work done. He called and asked to move up the date as an opening had opened up in the schedule and I agreed to have it done a few days earlier than scheduled. The mulch beds look fantastic! The crew did a great job cleaning up and mulch was spread thick and evenly through out all of the mulch beds. The crew also did a great job cutting in all of the beds. Stony Creek wasn't the cheapest estimate, but I knew they job would be done right because of the previous reviews and due to the fact that Loren actually took the time to measure how much mulch would be needed versus the other company who missed their first scheduled appointment for estimate and quickly eyeballed and approximate amount needed. I would recommend Stony Creek and plan on using them for future landscaping needs this fall.

Our building was constructed 3 years ago and the 3.5 acres of property was landscaped at that time. Unfortunatly the original contractor used cheaper trees and shrubs purchased from out-of-state nurseries and many were not accustomed to Indiana weather or soil. Thus, many were replaced by the original contractor within the first year but a few died after the warranty expired. So, after some searches of landscapers and available reviews, we hired Stonycreek Farm to replace trees, shrubs, and ground cover. The owner, Loren Schmierer, reviewed all that we requested, made a number of solid recommendations regarding dying trees and shrubs, which we accepted, and provided a very detailed estimate of the costs. We provided an initial deposit and they scheduled the work at the appropriate time about 3-4 weeks later for the best chance of survival of the trees and plants . The team of men used exceptional care in both the removal of the dead trees and plants as well as the planting of the new trees and shrubs to not break into the irrigation system, underground electrical, water and gas lines or to damage the existing lawn. All the trees and plants were obtained from well-established local nurseries and were locally grown with apparent good health. All the work was completed within the few days scheduled. The final bill included a deduction made by Mr. Schmierer at his request for a tree whose trunk was a bit less than 3 inches in diameter. All-in-all, this was an extremely professional team that did outstanding work in a timely manner; one could not have hoped for more. This was a very impressive experience.

Lauren came out on time and reviewed my requests. He noted them all and provided me with an estimate. I decided to hire Stoney Creek Farms to do the job. I am delighted with the results! The crew arrived on time, involved me in the detail decisions, and finished the job as professionally as you could ask for. I will definitely recommend this company to anyone and will hire them again in the future when I need landscaping help.

In early May, I called to set up an appointment for a landscaper to come out and was told someone would call me back. After not hearing from anyone in a couple of days, I called back. They apologized and connected me with someone who set up a time. That person came out on the set date, and we talked about what we wanted done. Pictures and measurements were taken. The landscaper said they were very busy, and he would get back in 2-3 weeks with a quote. I said I understood. After not hearing from him in 3 weeks, I called him. Again, I was told that they were still very busy with current projects for other clients, and he would call me in about a week. At the end of the week, I did not receive a call so again called him on a Friday. He said that he would work on the quote Saturday, and call the following Monday. I have never heard back from him or anyone else from the company. This has been nearly 3 months ago. We were very disappointed that they were not responsive as we were anxious to get started. Apparently, they didn't want the business or money that we were ready to spend with them. We've since had quotes from landscapers and ended up using one of them for our front lawn and are very pleased. We will probably use them for the remainder of our landscaping needs.

Gave us the best price on evergreens and installation was done very well even though the plantings were on a steep slope. The retaining wall installation was done very professionally and looks great. Pricing is fair. Nice people to work with.

I was pleased with the finished project. They were timely and cleaned up after themselves. They did a very neat tidy job. I would highly recommend him.

This is the second time Loren Schmierer has assisted us with rather major landscaping rennovations. All of the work was performed to expectations. They were very careful and cleaned up the area very well. The work was performed according to schedule and was within the estimated pricing for the job. Would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for similar services.

From the beginning Loren was prompt in providing quotes and communicating their schedule. They did their work in a very professional manner making sure along the way that it was what we were expecting. The yard looks great. We will be using them again in the Spring for work in the backyard.

They are great. They have a free service; if it's within a 20-mile radius, they will come out and give us an estimate and talk about what we want for free. We visited the nursery and they have tons to choose from. They were professional, and they take their time to get to know what we want. They give a lot of description or suggestion of what grows where and how it will grow, that was helpful to me because I didn't know very much about tree planting. We would use them again in the future.

We have used them quite a bit. They do work about once a year. I would use them again. I liked the job they did removing the bushes.

When my house was built and the original landscaping was done by the builder, they used a large landscaping business to hydro-seed my backyard. The large company didn't prepare the soil well and left all the weeds. The end result was a bunch of dirt and weeds and no grass. I called a couple different landscaping companies to include Stonycreek. Stonycreek was priced competitively, though not the cheapest, but definitely the most knowledgeable. The owner Loren is the one who came out and is a true farmer (green thumb). He assessed the yard and proposed two solutions (sod or seed). I chose seed as it was the most affordable option. He came out and used some special hard bristled beast of a machine, not the standard rock hound. He obliterated any unwanted growth in the yard left by the unnamed large landscaping business. His crew then put down the seed and fertilizer and racked it all in. This spring my yard is already green and lush. I get people asking what grass seed or fertilizer I used because there lawns are still brown and trying to revive. I tell them it really isn't so much the seed or fertilizer, but the ground preparation that Loren's team at Stonycreek did that made all the difference!

I hired the owner Loren Schmierer five years ago and was very pleased with their services so I hired them again. They tore out everything and did a complete overhaul of my yard. Instead of one year, the planting of everything he put in is guaranteed for two years. They did an excellent job. I will absolutely be hiring them again.

There were no glitches or unexpected surprises. The quality of work was exceptional. We would strongly recommend them to others and we plan to use them again for more landscaping projects.

We are still waiting on the electrical portion of the job to be complete. We are waiting for a substantial rain so we are certain the pump and drain are going to handle the problem. The project was completed 2 months later... we have had no issues with the pump and or drainage since completion.

They were prompted and courteous. The estimate came in, meeting our budget. We are happy with the results and would use them again.

It went well. We had a couple of trees that died but they replaced them at their expense. They have worked within their warranty. I would recommend them and have.

Mr. Robinson came to do an initial inspection of the problem and and discussed his proposed solution. He was very helpful. The initial estimate was to use solid corrugated black pipe for the drainage system. After doing some research, I decided to use solid PVC pipe. Stonycreek Farm accommodated the request but the revised estimate was over $1000 higher than the initial estimate. I acknowledge that the PVC pipe is somewhat more expensive, and it was more difficult to install than the flexible corrugated pipe; however, I think the increased price was a bit high. Mr. Robinson came again with the crew and laid out the system and explained exactly how the pipes would go. The crew worked very h****** two very hot days. They did quality work on the installation of the system. Grass seed was put down over the grassy area that was dug up in the front yard. They blew the debris off the driveway before they left. While the installation is well done, I won't know how well it works until the next heavy rain.

Loren worked with me to plan the landscaping and order all the trees and shrubs. He helped time the planting in the fall for optimum growth and health. Everything survived the winter cold and wind and summer heat. All are still healthy and beautiful. I was so pleased with the result. Loren is wonderful to work with. I didn't know what I was doing, so he spent quite a lot of time with me to make sure I was satisfied. Mary also was very helpful to me. There is a two-year warranty, which we won't need. Other nurseries only offered a one-year warranty. This helped influence my decision to go with Stonycreek Farm.

The lilac bushes are so beautiful and smell wonderful. I might have paid a little more, but it was worth it.

Lauren Schmierer came to the house and discussed our likes and dislikes - took pictures and measurements then called us a couple of days later and we met with him to discuss plans and his ideas. He had determined that we liked flowers and flowering bushes and we were very pleased with his suggestions. We set a date for the project that worked for both of us. After a discussion at home my husband and I decided to make one change on one of the trees which Lauren said was no problem. The day the landscaping was done the workers and Lauren showed up early, checked one more time where we wanted everything and proceeded to do a very efficient job. After the work was complete the workers went around and made sure that all trash was picked up and left everything in tip top shape. Lauren also checked back a couple of days later to make sure we were satisfied with the job. We are very pleased with the work and have recommended this company to several of our friends.

Just a great experience. Estimate was done quickly and Loren priced exactly what I wanted unlike another company that I had estimate to do the job. What I wanted was just basic sodding and irrigation and they did just that, taking the time to do it right. The sod has grown in nicely and sprinklers did not need any adjustment at all. Definitely will cal on Stoneycreek again if more services needed in the future.

When we first met with the owner Loren Schmierer we felt like we were in good hands. He is easy to talk to, listened to our suggestions and after making a visit to our home drew up a plan as to what he thought we needed. After looking over the various plans we talked some more and came up with a new plan that we all liked even better. We were not ready to add plants at this time but that was no problem, Loren understood that we were feeling our way along on this project. After seeing our home Loren suggested which stone and color we should use and we are glad that we went along with his suggestions. It is perfect. When weather delayed the project Loren kept in touch with us. The workmen were very good and even though the temperature was 90 degrees plus - they took their time and did an excellent job. We are very pleased with the final product.
