Description of Work: I had a leak in my kitchen ceiling. It took exactly one year to the month to finish project. That sounds like an extremely long time but the original problem was probably the builders poor workmanship. Elbert did not stop until this difficult job was completed and my problem resolved. They were also very kind working with me and making payments. The only reason I didn't score all A's wasn't related to Elbert but because of some of the subcontractors. I was cancelled more than two or three days while my kitchen was under construction and unable to use kitchen. However, Elbert was very professional and whatever amount of time or money it took to finish my job correctly they always did whatever it took to finish project.

Description of Work: My house is a ranch style but two stories however does not look like two stories from the front as the second story windows are in the back. I was wanting to install an overhang for my front porch and possibly two fake dormers to accentuate the exterior of the house from the front view. I took time off from work to meet a representative from the company at my home and go over exactly I what I wanted done. I also took the time to email them multiple examples of the type of work I was looking for. After five days from the initial consult I received an email stating that they were going to meet with "the powers that be" and they asked me a few more questions. I responded within one hour. After 10 days had passed and I still had not received a quote I emailed again to see what was going on. They stated they were having "trouble getting everyone together" and then proceeded to ask me even more questions about the timing of the project. I questioned why it was taking so long to get a quote on pretty basic work and they responded "Sorry, I don't think we are the company for you." It is extremely unprofessional to make me take time off of work to go over a project and then not even be able to give me a simple quote. I don't understand the philosophy of this company and why they would treat a potentially paying customer this way.

We are sorry this homeowner feels this way. The appointment was a late evening appointment at 7:00 PM, had she wanted a daytime appointment we could've accommodated that so she didn't have to take off of work. We do appointments anywhere from early morning, evening and even Saturdays sometimes so homeowners can meet with us with no inconvenience. That being said, this is an unfortunate misunderstanding because what one person may think is a "simple" project when looked at technically is actually a very intricate project to quote. After the appointment with this homeowner our project manager consulted with Steve Smalley, the owner of EHI and our installers. There were many things to address if this project was to be done properly and up to the standards of which we would be able to stand by and warranty a project. This project is structural and would require plans from an architect as well as permits. The homeowner did not know if her front porch was a monolithic poured concrete slab which is one thing that changes quoting the project. We cannot build a structure on a concrete slab that is not sound, the slab would give and the structure on top of it would shift and the homeowner would in turn have a poorly done project. Building aesthetic only or "fake" dormers may sound easy but what was discussed also included building out a front porch roof which is again, structural. These are just a couple of examples of things that need to be assessed in order to design the project and provide a thorough quote. If we did not make sure we address any and every possible thing needed to provide that quote, we would have to add a lot of change orders after the fact which tends to make homeowners feel we're over charging them. Since the homeowner thought we were taking too long with our quoting process, she was asked what her time line is. We always ask when any homeowner expresses an urgency because we would rather let them know upfront how far out we are on our timeline regarding installation. This homeowner wanted this project done before it gets cold which is something we cannot guarantee right now because of the extensive quoting on it and because we do our jobs in the order they are sold which is fair. We don't feel being called unprofessional is warranted in this case because we don't feel the homeowner is aware of the extent of this project. If she has someone else quote it and they are not as thorough, there could be many issues if her project is not done properly.
