They did a great job, their sales rep Matt was on time and very patient with all of my questions. While explaining the work he had good samples of the siding and windows so I could better tell what I was getting. The installation crew was friendly and hard working they did a great job of installing everything all the way down to the fine detail. I've had quite a few compliments from my neighbors about how good my house looks.

We visited showroom to check on products. Matt, sales rep, came to home, measured door and gave us an estimate. We ordered door 4-30 and it was installed 8-7. We were informed ahead of time that the door would not be available for some time. We were in no rush, so this wasn't an issue. Installer and two helpers worked efficiently and did a fine job with installation. They cleaned the work area prior to exiting. We are very pleased with the door and look forward to the energy tax credit!

The owner Mr. Smalley and his assistant Brian personally came to the home and made the inspection. They were prompt and courteous and very thorough. We were told the details of the job and they explained fully what to expect. Mr. Smalley went out of his way to show us samples and made some recommendations. The workers arrived on time and completed the roof quickly. They also cleaned up all the debris. The siding and gutter work went smoothly They completed the work in the time frame we had requested.
Description of Work: The company inspected the home after hail damage. An insurance estimate and the company’s estimate were used to determine the amount of work. They replaced the siding, the roof, and the gutters. Some small additional work was also done at the same time. They suggested an insulated siding and we are very happy with that as it is an improvement to the appearance but it also added insulation and noise dampening to the home.

This company is extremely great on customer service and very professional installers. The manager Steve really does everything possible to make it a smooth and enjoyable experience. The installers were on time, very friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. They are well oiled machine. The made sure to put sheets down to keep from making a mess, and they came back through and swept the area as well. We had the old marble sills replaces with wood and it looks amazing. They pulled the windows out and hauled them away. These guys knocked out a door with trim and 10 windows with trim in 9 hours!! Simply amazing!! They made a very hard job look easy!! Steve made sure to followup with us and make sure everything was excellent. Their prices were great and they went the extra mile that other companies we did estimates with, would not. They did the trim (which looks amazing) and were very knowledgeable when we asked questions on the estimate visit. Other companies just seemed like they would throw the windows in, and leave, where as Exterior's installers really take their time and do the job right! Can't say enough good things about this company!!
Description of Work: We had a total of 10 windows replaced and our front door. The two front windows had a divider that was knocked out and a bigger 3 section window was put in. Our house was built in 1978 and the original metal windows were in as well as the original door!!

It went well. They paid a great deal of attention to detail to make sure everything looked perfect and made sure I was OK with all the work. They pointed out some unexpected issues and gave me alternatives and clearly explained what choices i had so i could make an informed decision. They were very proud of their work. I am extremely happy with the result. The day after the roofing was done, there was a big rainstorm & I noticed 3 small leaks; they came the same day i contacted them to take care of it.
Description of Work: I hired this company to perform siding, roofing, gutter, garage door repair/replacement after the bad hail storm hit Fishers in June 2009. I paid beyond what my insurance company reimbursed so the house quality would be enhanced. They replaced the siding all around my house, new soffits, replaced gutters, new garage door, and entire new roof, and repaired window screens.

Installation seemed to go well at the time. About two years later; however, the house developed a leak from a joint between the siding and roofing, and we were told by at least two roofing companies that the problem was caused by improper installation of the siding. I contacted Exterior Home Improvements by phone two times or more, and never received a return phone call. In 2008, we had the entire roof torn off and replaced by another contractor. This summer, we put our house up for sale, and during an inspection, we were told that the siding was improperly installed because there should be space between the siding and roofing shingles. The siding was installed so as to extend completely to the joint where the siding meets the roof. Once again, we contacted Exterior Home Improvements. We did reach someone this time, and he told us that the siding was installed properly for the recommendations at the time of installation. This turns out to be inaccurate because there clearly the siding was installed so that it extends all the way to the roof line. The company rep. did not even offer to estimate the cost of fixing the problem. He simply referred us to a private individual to have the problem fixed. We can understand a company in one instance denying responsibility for a problem which develops after installation is completed. In our case, however, this company has dodged responsibility twice in four years. That constitutes a pattern of denial in my opinion. It is obvious to us that their stratgey is to explain away and shift blame for problems which clearly were caused by their installation. This company has good grades with Angie's List. In our case, we would have to recommend that private individuals not do business with them.

Response from Elbert Construction Inc
Rather then posting a rebuttal, this is the letter we sent to this customer: Mr. Customer, After reading your Angie’s List statement, I am sorry about the way you feel. I can not change that, but will rebut against what you said based on our facts as a company. Every time something goes wrong it is not always the fault of the company. The first service you mentioned where the leak occurred where the siding meets the roof and the roofer said it is the siding fault. The leak was due to the Step Flashing (joint) which is a roofing issue and not a siding issue. If this “Step Flashing” issue should arise, Exterior Home Improvement would do a service on it, if we did the roof and it leaked in that area. When you do siding the house wrap and siding overlaps the step flashing, so that any water that comes down the wall enters into that joint and the step flashing then acts as a gutter for the roof line. This will move water down the slope to the edge of the home. Very rarely would a leak at this point be a siding issue but in fact a very common roofing issue, especially if ALL step flashing is not replaced when a new roof is installed. You stated in your Angie’s List Report that the siding job was done 2 years ago, which is in fact incorrect. The final check from you was dated August 8th, 2006, which is three years ago and out of our 2 year labor warranty. Your second issue is the inspection report stating the siding is to close to the roof line and it is improperly installed. It also states that the CertainTeed Fiber Cement should be 2” above the roof line. When the CertainTeed Fiber Cement was installed in 2006 you had a 3 TAB SHINGLE on your roof and the siding was installed in accordance to the 3 Tab Shingle roof line. At the time of installation we put the CertainTeed Fiber Cement approximately 1” off the roof line which is was in accordance to CertainTeed’s manual at that time. When you replaced your new roof with an ARCHITECTURAL SHINGLE which is much thicker then a normal 3 tab shingle, this definitely would have CLOSED ANY GAP BETWEEN THE SIDING AND ROOF. This is not the fault of Exterior Home Improvement, but the fault of the roofer for not pointing out these facts. So, in retrospect Exterior Home Improvement is not at fault.

I contacted the company and Steve returned my call within a short amount of time. I met with him and told him I would let him know my final decision. Not long after I met with him, Steve called me to just follow up and let me know that he could offer a better price than what he originially told me. Steve was very positive, helpful, and fun throughout the entire experience and I really enjoyed meeting with him and having the job completed with this company. Steve and the workers did a great job with everything from start to finish!

Work was done very well and the crew cleaned up well. They spent several days to get it right . The new windows work well and look very good, and IHPC is OK with them .Apparently, at least some of my neighbors like the way they look, as some people across the street are right now having their old windows replaced by this company with the identical Jeld-Wen windows. In my old drafty house, the new windows not only keep the house warm in the winter, but saved me about $ 50/month off my gas bill in the coldest winter months, comparing the winter of 2008-2009 to the winter of 2007-2008 and gas prices have gone up a lot over the same peiod
Description of Work: They removed ten (10) old double hung windows from my old house, which was built in the late 1880s and is located in the historic Chatham Arch District of Indy, which thus makes it subject to the jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission (IHPC), and replaced them with ten (10) custom-manufactured Jeld-Wen wood double hung windows, jeld-Wen product line Siteline EX. They insulated around the new windows. They supported my application to the IHPC to get the necessary approval to do this work.

We contracted with Exterior Home Improvement (EHI) in March of 2009. The windows were installed the 2nd week on April. The installers were extremely professional, they were very neat in their clean up, and they were very friendly and accommodating. The workmenship was very good. Unlike the other companies we contracted, EHI went that extra step and trimmed around the winows giving them a very nice look. Steve Samlley was very knowlegable. He was very good at listening to us and our needs and not just trying to push a product on us. He gave us several options and let us have time to discuss them and make our decision. What really impressed me about the company was that when I mentioned the type of window we were looking for, competeing companies even recommended EHI. We did have to reschedule once because of weather, but Steve was very good at communicating with us and working around our schedule. After the installation by Matt, Steve and Paul, the work area was left very neat and clean. Overall, this was a fine experience. We really like the new windows and we have been very pleased with the service of Exterior Home Improvement.

We contacted them over 1 month ago and requested a quote on a sunroom and repair and paint of trim. He really only wanted to talk to us about re-siding our entire house. I said we were willing to listen, but needed those two items in a quote. He canceled the initial site visit - twice. then he came and was way too pushy about the siding. We started later referenceing him as the ShamWOW guy. We asked for him to give us a quote, he said he would and he has never called to confirm anything or ask questions and we have yet to see any type of quote. My advice is to find someone who is much more attentive to YOUR needs.

Our response concerning this report is very simple. There are two VERY different accounts of this situation. This person, when contacted with our concern over how upset she seemed to be, was equally as unpleasant as this report indicates. As well as extremely confrontational. It has come to our attention that writing critical and unsatisfactory reports on companies is not uncommon for her. Therefore, we will continue to rely on our reputation as an A rated company, and our satisfied customers to convey the kind of company Exterior Home Improvement is. Thank you.

The project started with an in home estimate which was preceded with a post card that introduced Steve Smalley as the person I would be seeing and included a picture so their were no surprises from the very beginning. The installation start was delayed by two days due to rain. On Wednesday, 4/22/09 Steve arrived with his crew; Mike, Rodney and Ray and Brett South the Alside representative. We all walked the permiter of the house at which time Mike was given an overview of the project. All of the wood trim was removed, the entire house was covered with foam board house wrap and the Revolution Alside Siding installed. Every day I had the same 3 man crew. They were friendly, answered my questions and stayed busy. They were careful with my foundation plantings. The project was interrupted a couple of times by rain and the grounds were always very wet. This crew moved their equipment around so as not to trampled my grass any more than necessary. They cleaned up their work area every night before leaving. This project was started on 4/22 and completed on 5/5. Every day Steve Smalley stopped by to check on the progress. Almost every day Brett South came by as well to see that the install was being done according to Alside standards. I cannot over emphasize how much their attention to every detail of the project was appreciated by my wife and me.
Description of Work: They covered my aging T1-11 siding with Revolution Alside Siding. They wrapped the overhang from the first to the second story and the brick mold at every doorway, they covered the soffits under the bump outs in the kitchen, the dining rooms and the front entry.

We chose the 5 largest, draftiest, worst windows & frames that we had for this first round of replacement work. We wanted to see if the new windows would really make a difference in our heating needs, and if the installation would be done carefully. This work was done in January on the side of the house that gets the worst wind. Afterwards, much to my surprise, we were able to lower our thermostat by 3-4 degrees and still felt warmer than we had before. The new window glass and frames were not as cold as the plaster walls next to them. The window installers, Mark and Jake Mitchell did a wonderful job. They were prompt, worked hard and asked for our input during the job to be sure that we were satisfied with the work and the design of the outdoor trim. Our old house window frames were out of square and in one case, not even level with the house. This made the installation and interior trim work "problematic" to say the least. Our old windows had exceptionally large pockets for the window weights and required a great deal of foam insulation to stop the air infiltration. The installers continued to work on caulking and insulating the frames until no more air was coming in, checking for leaks as they went along. Mark was able to build out the exterior trim and add molding to make it fit in with the style of trim on our other windows. He even made the slanted frame look level with the house. Like many older homes, our house has had several sections added on to the original (1861) structure. The windows and the trim in the later additions do not match each other, or the original part of the house. Mark was able to fabricate something for us that fits in with the older trim, and does not look boxy and modern. He can think creatively in order to fix the problem and cares about the quality of his work. I would have no hesitation about having Mark and his son Jake do work for us again. Because of the difficulty with the frames, and the need to make some adjustments to the trim design, the job exceeded the original plan in the estimate. We reached an agreement with Mark Hancock, the project manager from EHI, to add a change order that was fairly priced, to the amount of our initial contract. Mr. Hancock explains the products and prepares the estimates in advance and then stops by to check on the progress of the project. I prefer this arrangement to companies that have one person who sells but a different one who supervises the actual work. Mr. Hancock is very patient and thorough in answering questions by phone or email. He gives the homeowner an opportunity to speak freely with him about the quality of work and any concerns they might have without being overheard by the workers. There is no high pressure during the sale. These last two points stand out as being very professional. Scheduling was considerate & efficient, even when changes needed to be made. We had used EHI before for a small fiber cement siding job.
