Arranged for an estimate on replacing a sliding glass door in early Oct. Salesman Steve Cunningham arrived on time and we went thru the process. This was my third estimate and although Exterior Home Improvements was a bit higher I went with their bid. They were rated very high on Angies list. Steve requested a 300.00 deposit with I thought was rather strange since the door was a standard door not a special size, but I agreed. When I asked for a date of completion he he gave me a time window of from Nov 15th to Dec 15th. I thought a month to get a standard door was strange but I went along. I called the office on Monday 11/28 and asked about the door. Was told the door was not in yet. Called again on 12/5 and was told the door wasn't in yet. When I questioned the agreement we had she said that was just an estimate. Cunningham called later and we were able to resolve the situation. They installed the door on Dec 16th. The workmen were excellent, very professional. The quality of the door and installation was great. I broke my own unwritten rule of giving deposits. It seems every time I do this I end up with issues.
Description of Work: Replace a standard sliding glass door in my kitchen area. Remove and haul away the old door.

We were very happy with Exterior Home Improvements, Steve Cunningham and Anita, are bright shining stellar examples of what quality service is all about!! The initial meeting went very smoothly. They were polite, pleasant, charming & forthright in answering questions. No high pressure tactics were used which we appreciated as we had indicated we planned to get several quotes for the job. They did a thorough job of going over all the options. Steve, as promised, put together an estimate which he then emailed to me and my son (who was helping to oversee getting this project accomplished). Lastly, he called a few days later to make sure we had received this information and said six words I enjoyed hearing, "We are here to help you!" Prior to speaking with EHI: I had a very unpleasant & condescending call from another contractor who did not seem to be able to grasp the concept that we did not require financing and thought instead he could talk to me as if I was mentally deficient! Right after Steve, I had another pompous, hard sell, irritating contractor come in. He seemed to be under the delusion that he "walked on water" and "knew" all the answers which he did not. Finally, there was one last contractor who seemed pleasant enough but who never followed through or showed any in-depth interest in our project. Within a day or two, we contacted Steve to get the project in motion. When he and Anita arrived with the contract and paperwork we totally enjoyed his sense of humor, high energy level and dedication to the smallest details. He was attentive and worked with us so that we got exactly what we wanted. With 21 years in the industry, Steve knows what he is doing. Both he and Anita were extremely helpful. The day after that, Steve returned to oversee measurements for the windows being ordered. It would take 4-6 weeks for our windows to come in since we were getting the bay window and since we wanted tan wrapping on the windows instead of white. The windows arrived in early December and we were set up for installation starting December 12th. Steve was there on the job overseeing a very competent crew to make sure the contractual agreements were met. I had all sorts of fear about having this work done since it was cold out. It turned out there was nothing to fear but fear itself! Wow!! The crew was EXCEPTIONAL and the windows were AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL!! They got the old windows out and the new ones in much faster then you could imagine. They were polite, kind to our animals and very respectful to all. There had not been room in the trucks for the bay window so they came back the next day to take care of that and finish wrapping the basement windows. This Bay Window was not a simple or easy task but they did all of the below in about 90 minutes!! They removed a huge picture window along with two smaller side windows. Besides framing out for the Bay Window they needed to reconstruct over and around where the two smaller windows had been since we no longer needed to have those windows. So, they framed things out, put in some studs, got some plywood on the outside, put in drywall and added new trim. They cleaned up the area inside and left it SPOTLESS, the same was true of any outside areas involved. Steve checked on the work daily, constant as the Northern Star - a beacon shining in the dark to light the way for us. The pricing was very fair. These are high end windows that tilt all the way in for cleaning and they are exactly what we wanted!! Having a contractor with that much integrity and pride in his company's work is PRICELESS. We would HIGHLY recommend Steve Cunningham, Anita and EHI to anyone. Especially if you have ever been burned or left stranded by other contractors/handymen in the past; you will find that this experience will give you an awesome PEACE OF MIND and SATISFACTION to the max. A good contractor is worth his/her weight in gold and a company that stands behind their work and does quality work in a respectful fashion are two VERY GOOD things is what we learned!
Description of Work: Our home was built in 1955. Every window we owned was old and not insulated and trying to fall apart! They also required an assortment of spoons and sticks to keep them open when we wanted fresh air! BASEMENT: Installed 6 beautiful working windows. GARAGE: Installed a new window to replace an old broken, boarded up window HOUSE: Replaced and Installed 8 single hung windows, 2 sets of double hung window, replaced our old picture window with a GORGEOUS Bay Window, removed the two smaller windows next to the old picture window (along with framing them out and dry walling and mudding the inside where needed. The new windows are wrapped in tan, a pretty shade like coffee with cream. The new windows are to the old windows as a foot powered scooter would be to riding in a Jaguar XKE, Lincoln Mercury, Porsche etc. Simply Marvelous!!

Steve was very clear on what to expect and that at the time they were fully booked for the next few months. My job did not start until December and it was worth the wait. The overall project took approx 2 weeks due to some rainy weather. Exterior Home Improvement has a small crew that does the siding work. They are highly skilled and did a superb high quality job. The crew brought materials and tools on a Friday and started work the following Monday. I happen to work close to home and come home for lunch so I was able to see more in process work. Each day I was told exactly what was being done and shown if there were any issues that I needed to be concerned with not related to the siding project. Any questions I had were answered on the spot and Steve kept in touch throughout the job.
Description of Work: I had multiple leaks starting to appear on the inside of my home including around windows, in the garage, and around the chimney. I contacted Exterior Home Improvement in July to look at my siding and the issues I was having. Steve Cunningham came out within a few days, looked at the issues I was having, and then gave me several options on the routes I could go depending on the money that I wanted to spend. I decided to have my home resided. As part of the residing my home was reflashed where there was sign of water penetration, had ice/watershield placed around all windows and doors, and had polystyrene insulation or house wrap placed under the siding depending on the underlayment that existed.

We had Exterior Home Improvement install a new Pella patio door, replace some wood siding that was rotting, and install new guuters on the home. We were very pleased with the entire transaction. Steve performed the work when it was supposed to be done and did it right the first time. We did not have to have them come back to redo anything. They were very neat and cleaned up after they were done. We were very well satisfied with all that was done and would use them again should the need arise.

After reviewing the reports and ratings for window replacement providers on the Angies List website (as well as one physical visit with a provider), I contacted Exterior Home Improvement and set up an appointment with Steve Cunningham, their Public Relations Director. Steve listened to what kind of products I was considering and what I wanted to accomplish (low maintenance, natural appearance, and energy efficiency). He reviewed the pros and cons of the various products and gave me very comprehensive information. He and his assistant Anita were prompt and contacted me immediately when it was necessary to delay or reschedule an appointment or to let me know they were on their way. Communication was key in my high rating of the company. After receiving what I felt was a reasonable estimate, a contract was signed on the spot and a lead time for installation was given. Another appointment was made for final measurements to be taken, and this was accomplished quickly and at my convenience. Close to the anticipated installation date, I contacted the company to let them know of several possible scheduling conflicts. I was assured that they would work around these and was subsequently called and given two choices for installation times. On the morning of the scheduled installation, the gentlemen were prompt and I found them to be extremely polite, friendly and efficent. They were all pleasant to have around for the two days of work, but "Dave" stood out as the seasoned professional. One window treatment which was originally improperly installed presented a challenge which Dave evaluated and creatively addressed while maintaining an good-humored, unflappable demeanor. I am happy with our new windows the inside color of which perfectly matches the existing wood frames. They seem to better muffle sounds from outside and we feel fewer drafts. Future utility bills will tell the tale regarding their actual energy efficiency. Steve Cunningham has since followed up on their service to ascertain our satisfaction and to discuss future projects. We will certainly strongly consider working with Exterior Home Improvements again.
Description of Work: We replaced 14 separate 25-year-old wood windows with Infinity by Marvin fiberglass windows to increase energy efficiency and eliminate "rotting" issues.

This report is about the window portion of a complete exterior renovation which included roofing, siding, gutters, paint and some window work. The window work was a last minute change order on the original job. Steve Cunningham, Public Relations Director for EHI, and his sidekick Anita came out to estimate the original job. Steve is quite a character. He is full of energy and talks a mile a minute, but he?s not just a sales guy. He has been in the business for a long time and it quickly became clear that he had a detailed technical understanding of the services he was offering (being an engineer, I appreciate that) and could answer my questions in detail. After we had signed up for the rest of the job, I realized that I really needed to get the upstairs rear windows of the house replaced before the siding was completed in order to avoid rework on the siding and trim afterward. We had two double hung Andersen windows which we had purchased and finished as part of a larger DIY project, but my wife did not want me on a ladder doing second floor windows. There was also a pair of large double-hung windows over our Jacuzzi which needed to be replaced. . The problem was that we were out of time and could not order Andersen windows in time. We decided to replace these windows with a transom style glass block window instead. This required removal of the windows and changing the rough opening, but no problem with window leadtime. The best solution would be to get EHI to do this work. I was concerned about this because I knew they were very busy at the time and not many companies are willing to install windows purchased by homeowners. I emailed Steve and explained what we needed and he responded "No worries". Steve came through and was able to line up a lead guy and two helpers to do the work in time. This was not EHI's normal window guy, but well qualified for the work. We were very pleased. When they arrived at the house they took their shoes off at the door without prompting. I showed them where they would be working. The first thing they did was lay down runners to protect the carpet. Every inch from the front door to the windows in question was covered. They worked efficiently and two of them got the old windows out quickly while the third was continuously removing the trash. The replacements double hungs were installled, insulated, and sealed just as their predecessors had been. This was completely acceptable, but I would have given them a higher grade if they had done it in the more modern fashion with flex flashing on the rough sill and flashing or taping the outside of the window. (I understand from Steve that the modern method is SOP for his normal window guy). When the bathroom windows came out they found some rot on the end of the rough sill, so they removed and replaced it. After some measurements, they went out to the truck and built a mini section of wall studs the same width as the opening but enough shorter to allow for the height of the glass block window. It was installed on the old sill. Pieces of 1 inch material material were used to adjust the width of the opening. A piece of plywood was used to cover the old window opening, and the area for the glass block received a plywood cover until my installer could get there. I realized later that the plywood over the old window opening was a problem. The rest of the house had 2 inch foam sheathing and this would represent a discontinuity when the siding guys got to it. I talked to Steve, he understood the problem and had his siding crew install the foam in place of the plywood. When my glass block guy came we discovered that the width of the opening was not quite right and it needed to be corrected. When I notified Steve he apologized profusely and promised to take care of it. It was fixed the next day. Things do come up in this projects, and when they do it is less important that they occurred than how the contractor handles them. Steve left us comfortable and at ease at every turn. Steve, Anita, and EHI made good on all of their commitments, and gave us the most positive contractor experience that we have had. Well done!
Description of Work: Two double hung windows were removed and replaced with two windows that I had purchased and finished myself. Another pair of double hung windows was removed an reframed to accomodate a glass block window (to be installed by another contractor) By my request, no insulation, interior or exterior trim was included. I would do that myself.

He has been in the business for a long time and it quickly became clear that he had a detailed technical understanding of the services he was offering (being an engineer, I appreciate that) and could answer my questions in detail. We had asked for three bids on the job, but only got two. I specifically requested that the quotes be detailed. Only the EHI quote met my expectations. This was not a breakdown by price so much as a detailed description of the work and what materials were to be used. Steve had it and the other guy didn?t. Their prices were close. Steve and Anita came out and walked the job with us, reviewing the quote as we went. Steve answered our questions and made revisions in specific areas of interest to us. Steve was very clear about what work would be done and that he would take personal responsibility to see that work was completed to our satisfaction. We signed up that night. EHI uses subcontractors, but they seem to be closely held subcontractors. They work together constantly. The crew was polite and friendly. EHI uses a smallish crew of skilled people rather than a busload of less skilled ones, so the job took about 5-6 days. They worked in sections, removing the old roofing and then replacing it. This never left large sections of roof unprotected. They worked in conjunction with the siding crew, which allowed the installation of Grace ice and water shield everywhere the roof met the siding and creating a seal from under the siding to under the shingles. This is a nice systemic approach to sealing against water, and a far better approach than taken by the original builder. The lines of the shingles are nice and straight and everything looks very good. The roofing crew was a little less careful about daily cleanup than the siding crew. No big stuff was ever left behind, but some smaller bits were left to accumulate during the job. A snack wrapper or two turned up daily while they were working. Everything was thoroughly picked up at the end of the end of the job, including a run with a magnet to catch stray nails We were in the process of a DIY window project around the time of the roofing. We had several windows accumulated at the back of the house, waiting for a trip to the dump. Steve noticed them and had one of the crew break the stuff down and put it in their dumpster. A very nice gesture which save us some time, effort and money. Steve Cunningham visited the site almost every day to check on the work. I got a call from him almost every night to report progress and plans, and to see if we had any questions or concerns. We also traded emails as needed. Even the most minor concerns (there really weren?t any major ones) received Steve?s immediate attention and were resolved to our complete satisfaction. From the quote through completion of the job, any inquiry I made received a response on the same day or next morning. Steve, Anita, and EHI made good on all of their commitments, and gave us the most positive contractor experience that we have had. Well done!

Steve was very clear about what work would be done and that he would take personal responsibility to see that work was completed to our satisfaction. We signed up that night. EHI uses subcontractors, but they seem to be closely held subcontractors. They work together constantly. Other companies I have worked with seemed to send out whoever was cheapest that week. The siding crew was headed up by Gerardo. He was a very nice guy, and Steve was there to introduce us. They were a small (3-4 guys with maybe some casual help for cleanup) and efficient group. They came out late the first day and dropped off their equipment. The dumpster was delivered the same day. They started early the next day, setting up scaffolding and starting the demolition. They worked quickly and efficiently, but never carelessly. Gerardo and his crew are craftsmen. They were focused on the job and no time was wasted. When I saw the first section of siding installed, I was very pleased. The joints were all clean and tight, and the laps were true and even. I couldn?t find a thing to criticize. This continued throughout the job. Part of the job was to re-side a bump out in the dining area. It had both lap and rough cedar siding was aging badly, largely due to poor flashing and sealing in the original design. They completely stripped this, wrapped it in Tyvek, and flex flashed the windows. They did a slight redesign to eliminate the use of a wood brick mold around the windows, which was an ongoing maintenance problem. They replaced troubled cedar band boards at the bottom with Azex and used improved flashings. The bumpout has a small shingled roof, and its intersection with the siding was nicely flashed (a point the builder missed). Everywhere that the siding met the roof, a flexible flashing was installed from under the siding to under the shingles (a benefit of having the roof done by the same guys at the same time). This was a very good job with a lot of attention to the details. They were very good about cleanup. They tended to clean up as they went, rather than letting things pile up. At the end of each day the site was clear of any evidence of construction waste. The whole process took about 4 days. Steve Cunningham visited the site every day to check on the work. I got a call from him almost every night to report progress and plans, and to see if we had any questions or concerns. We also traded emails as needed. Description of Work: This report is about the siding portion of a complete exterior renovation which included roofing, siding, gutters, paint and some window work. 1) Old siding/trim was removed and disposed of. 2) James Hardie fiber-cement lap siding was installed in place of aging wood lap siding. The house is full brick in front and half brick on the side and behind, so the siding area is only the second story, on one side and the back. 3) Tyvek house wrap was installed. Vycor Plus ice and water shield was installed at all intersections of the siding and roof lines. 4) All trim was integrated into the siding and caulked, rather than be nailed on top of it. 5) The exterior of a three-sided bump-out in the dining area was completely redone with new wood, siding, and flashing and sealing system. 6) A few new soffit vents were added, and aged/damaged wood was repaired where needed

This project is part 1. Part 2 (windows & doors) is not quite finished & will be reported separately. Ditto Part 3 (interior drywall repairs, ceiling fan replacement & painting). Part 1 involved replacing exterior siding, including repainting siding and trim, and repairing significant roof problems. The roof design has 2 flat valley areas which had originally been shingled. All companies we asked to quote recommended replacement with a single sheet product (no nail holes). EHI was consistent with that and further recommended some revisions and improvements to the ventilation system for the entire roof, not just the part that had leaked. The company representative, Steve Cunningham, was very careful to make sure we understood everything that would happen, and what the limitations were(e.g. new roof shingles will not perfectly match old ones) and warning us about potential problems (e.g. you can't tell if the rafters are in good shape till you pull the roof off, so there may be an added cost). The crews were professional, efficient, and pleasant. On the siding, the house is a Tudor style with cross timbering, so there was a good deal of careful measurement and skill required to get it right. EHI did a great job. They worked with me to ensure the paint colors were what I had in mind (I am terrible at picking paint from paint chips), and the paint came out just as I had wanted it. They did a good job on cleanup; once they had finished, everything was nice and clean, and even during the project, each day they left the site in good order (there was still a big waste bin and some materials around, of course, but not a big mess). The punch list issues were taken care of in a timely fashion. My experience on this is that they made this about as painless as it was possible for such a big project to be.
Description of Work: Roof repairs: valley shingles replaced with single sheet material, vents replaced & enhanced, zinc strips added (mildew retardant), rafters and rotted underlayment replaced & repaired. Siding: Tudor half timbered siding replaced around entire exterior of house. Painting: entire exterior of house with trim painted.

Description of Work: Worked with Steve and Exterior Home improvements to get some siding replaced on my house. He came out promptly to give me an estimate. The estimate was fair and competitive with other estimates I received. I choose Exterior to do the work due to his professionalism. We set up a date for the work and as promised his crew came out and fixed my siding. The work was done as promised. I without a doubt would use his services again if needed. I trust that the work would get done and I would get what I paid for and more. Thanks Steve and EHI for a wonderful experience. Hiring a contractor can be nerve racking and scary.

Steve Smalley, who is the owner, was extremely thorough. Made several trips to show us different types of windows and also met us at the Pella showroom to show us full window samples. We had an unusual size kitchen window replacement that needed careful removal and installation because of a tile back splash. It went smoothly. He went through each step of removal, installation, and recommended painters. He personally stopped by each day during the installation and then checked-in when the painters were here. He followed up with some manufacturing problems and worked with Pella to correct the issues. One window was delivered with a flaw in the wood and he insisted that Pella manufacture a new window rather than repairing the wood. He follows through with each issue and returns phone calls even on weekends and he encouraged and welcomed questions.
Description of Work: old windows and window frames removed and new Pella replacement windows with frames installed. all window frames calked.

Steve, Tim and the entire crew were fabulous to work with. They worked through all those horribly 90+ degree days doing much more than they had anticipated and making sure that when they finished we had a home that was as perfect as possible. We greatly appreciate the extra time they took to correct the hidden problems they found as they worked. Tim's siding and window work is worth waiting for, you won't be disappointed. Very friendly and professional and always made sure the gates were closed so my dogs didn't escape and take a stroll around the neighborhood.
Description of Work: We had new vinyl siding, soffits, gutters and window trim installed. When removing the old cedar siding they found that our house did not have the proper wall support and had to install plywood to the entire house before they could even begin to install the siding. Tim was meticulous with his work, making sure that you could hardly see any seams in the siding and the trim around the windows was perfect: the half moon window was a bit tricky, but you can't tell there is more than 1 piece surrounding that window. When replacing the soffits under the porch, Tim discovered a couple of leaks which was causing some mold. Steve recommended a plumber, who was out there the next day, to fix the problems before they would close up the porch ceiling. This set the finish date back by a day but that didn't matter to them, they wanted it fixed correctly. So nice to have people who care about your home and not just get the job done and move on to the next! Gutters and painting crews were just as great! We had gutters with gutter guards installed, which means no more cleaning out leaves and tennis balls. The painting crew did a great job on all the cedar trim and the garage door looks brand new. They even gave me a few tips on how to repaint the front door.

The aluminum siding on my garage and house needed to be replaced from pitting from the hail storm several years back. Dan at Exterior Home Improvements was the only person who looked at my whole garage and not just the siding. Since my house and garage were build in the 1940's, the structure of the garage needed to be addressed before new siding could be added. The sides of the garage were bowing out because the beams across the top of the garage were pulling away from the side structure. Dan coordinated having the structure secured first, then the siding on the garage and house dormers and then the garage door. Dan kept me informed of the process and was on sight to check that the work was being done properly. If I had any concerns for problems, he followed through in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Replaced siding on garage and house dormers, installed new garage door.

EHI was one of several companies we contacted to help us correct some issues which resulted in water leaks. EHI was the only company that provided very detailed descriptions of the work they would be able to perform. The quality of care and customer support was excellant and spanned the entire process. It began with Steve Cunningham and Rick Kunzer helping us to determine the variables that could all be contributing to the leaking problems we were experiencing. They then helped us though our decision process by explaining the quality products they could provide and are trained in the proper installation process; Pella Windows and Hardy board products, e.g.. Steve and Rick's communication skills are excellent. They are both highly motivated and responsive individuals committed to quality customer support. We would consider them to be valuable assets to EHI. The crew that installed the new Pella windows treated our home with care, as if it was their own home. I had asked many questions and they answered everyone, treating me with respect. They actually seamed to appreciate the questions that I was asking. It was wonderful to receive this type of care and concern! Their care did not end there. As they were removing the old windows, they found a few issues that they fixed before they moved on. I was impressed by the fact that they tested every bit of structure to be sure that there was adequate support for the new windows. They thoroughly caulked and insulated every window. And, their clean-up was excellent! There were several places within our home that had drywall issues as a result of water getting in. David replaced what needed to be, repaired what could be, and plastered over what he did. He then painted over his excellent repair work. The result is fantastic. The crew that stained the windows and trim were also very skilled. They did not leave any drips or spots on the floors or walls. They took the time to match the color of the stain to the existing wood work within our home. It looks wonderful! The crew that did the siding were all great. They properly trimmed around each window, along the roof line, and above the porch. This was a vast improvement over what had been done in the past. They also found that when they were residing that there was no house wrap under any of the existing siding. This was also corrected. The only criticism that we have was that there were some things not cleaned up. For example, nails in the yard and landscaping, and debris in the gutters. Steve, when he was made aware of these issues, came out quickly to see that they were resolved. The painting crew was again wonderful, professional, and detailed in the performance of their craft. David made sure that the prep-work of caulking, cutting excess window trim and reaffirming the color selection was carried out with care and concern to meet all of our expectations. We couldn't be more pleased! He even fixed a neglected area under the kitchen bump-out that the builder left unattended. All we can say is WOW! We would highly recommend EHI to any and everone!
Description of Work: We had all of the windows in our home replaced. Damaged drywall, due to water, was replaced, plastered and painted. We also replaced the siding on the second story and had it repainted.

Steve Cunningham came out to the house well prepared several times and invited us to visit their office as well which we did before making a decision. EHI replaced (8) old wood Pella windows with new Designer Series windows (clad ext.). When it came time to do measurements, Steve (owner), SteveCunningham, and a Pella Rep. were present to make sure everything was done right. The crew was great and did a wonderful job. We will definitely use EHI in the future. Pella, on the other hand, was disappointing as we had many headaches with the quality of the clad on the sliding French door. We also were not happy with their methods to rectify the situation. There definitely was a manufacturing/inspection issue as the product shipped should never have left the factory. This happened twice. EHI bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of and satisfied. It would take too long to explain everything. But it seems that Pella products need an added inspection before being sent to the final customer for installation. Their product is too expensive to have these issues.
Description of Work: Installed (8) new windows and (1) sliding French door - All Pellas. Major headaches with the Pella sliding French door - manufacturing related (see below). All "A's" go to EHI, but not to Pella.

Our process for finding someone to put in our 8 doors and 2 windows involved getting several estimates. What we asked for from each vendor was to give us a written detail of what we were going to receive as to product type, material, and services. After receiving about six different estimates, we were appalled by the lack of detail, in fact, one was verbal, a couple of them lacked important details, and a couple gave us the details we asked for. We eliminated the ones with lack of detail because we wanted to know exactly what we were spending our money on. EHI, had the most comprehensive details and the most competitive price. Even though we did not base our decision on price, we were impressed with the brand name products and especially the sales folks – Steve Cunningham and Anita. They not only brought in samples, which most of the others didn’t do, they worked us to provide superior products and design that matched our home. When they had to make changes to our install date due to the weather, Steve keep us up-to-date and also worked with our schedule. The install went very smooth. The installers were meticulous in working around our furniture, moldings, and carpet. Our only issue came at the end of the installation – the installers did a not so good job of clean up on our deck and the surrounding area. I called Steve and within an hour he and Anita were at my home cleaning up the area. Not only did they pick up the nails and debris, he scrubbed down the deck to make sure that the drywall marks were gone. That is what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE. One more comment, we hired EHI to paint and stain the doors and windows they installed. David, the painter, is meticulous – he works like it is his home, putting down drop cloths, taking his time, and checking with us constantly. He called before hand to make sure he had the correct paint for the job. Because of the door material, he had to make a few trips to the paint store to get the correct primer and paint. His attention to detail and perfection is what any homeowner would want. Needless to say, we would not only recommend EHI, but we would hire them again. Steve and Anita are easy to work with and have the same respect for your home as they would for their own. GREAT JOB EHI !

Unbelievably bad. I left a voice mail at their office to submit a bid to install new siding on my house. Three days later when I did not hear anything I called again and talked with a staff member. She said someone would call me later that day to set up an appointment. Someone did call and we scheduled a 5pm appointment for later in the week. I even received a mail notice confirming the appointment and who would be calling. The representative never showed and I never heard from the company again. I had the work done by someone else.

Response from Elbert Construction Inc
I Steve Cunningham, want to take a moment to personally apologize for the mishaps in this situation. I take my position at Exterior Home Improvement very seriously, and I’m just as upset as this Angies List member that things went awry. I have a systematic way of setting my appointments and reminders that apparently did not do me justice in this instance. Unfortunately, this was a case of genuine human error. I did contact this Angies List member and apologize for my mistake and asked how I could make things right. Neither I nor any of the members of the Exterior Home Improvement team like to feel we’ve let someone down. Our goal is to provide the best customer service possible. Thank you.

After replacing a lot of rotted cedar siding boards several times in the past 6 years, I made the decision this time to replace with fiber cement. I initially called 3 contractors, but then expanded to 5. Exterior Home Improvement replaced my roof a few years ago, and since that project went very well, it only made sense to call them again for this project. After calling the office, I was contacted within a day by Steve Cunningham. He and I played a little phone tag, but when we finally talked, we set a date for him to come out and discuss my needs and provide ideas. He was on time and showed up with his colleague, Anita, who was also very friendly and provided good thoughts on colors. Unlike other contractors I spoke with, Steve listened to my concerns, answered my questions, and provided some good ideas. As promised, he emailed me the quote later that evening. Throughout my decision I'm fairly sure I came up with at least another 20 questions, or more. Steve was very prompt to get back to me. If I sent him a text, he replied very promptly; if I called and got his voice mail, he returned my call same day; if I emailed him, I received a response that day as well. After we worked through the details, I awarded the contract to EHI and Steve came out promptly as promised. We discussed dates for installation, knowing that mother nature would ultimately be the deciding factor on timeliness. Once the work started, Steve showed up several times in the 2 days that the work was being completed. The workers were polite, clean, and very skilled at what they were doing. Steve showed me a picture of one of the recent jobs completed with a neat design cut in the wood above the garage. I liked it and Steve asked his workers to do the same for me, and at no charge! The workers didn't mind that I came out and watched here and there, and even joked with me a little bit as well. These guys really knew what they were doing. After looking at other houses with recent fiber cement installations around my neighborhood, I realized not all jobs are the same, and not all trim work is the same. With some installs, the installation took away from the lines and architecture of the hose. With the work that EHI did, it not only kept the lines and flow of the house, it really enhanced the overall look. I didn't read any of the Angie's List reviews for EHI prior to calling Steve to sign the contract, so when I did see the bad reviews, I was surprised. Not only because of the previous good experience I had with the company, but because I didn't experience any of the problems noted, not once during the bid Q&A process, or even during the install process. The only issue I had during the project was that the workers damaged one of the gutters on the house. It was a hassle that this happened, and at times irritated me, but Steve really put in extra efforts to make sure I was completely satisfied and that all was back to normal. Because of Steve?s efforts, this report gets an A, and because of his efforts, I?ll continue to consider EHI for future home repairs.
Description of Work: Exterior Home Improvement (EHI) removed rotted cedar wood siding on front and sides of 2 story house. Wrapped house with vapor barrier house wrap, installed Vycor ice and water shield, installed textured 7 1/4" Hardie plank fiber cement pre primed siding and caulked perimeter of siding and trim. Also replaced all window trim and other trim surrounding the outer edges of the siding.

I had hail damage and they replaced my old roof with a new one. The cost of $11,000 was handled by insurance. I had a good experience with them. I felt they were easy to work with. They answered all my questions; they were really responsive. The work turned out to be great. I think they were looking for work. They came up to my driveway and told me that I had hail damage. They told me that I needed a new roof. Since I could not get to the roof, they went up there and took pictures. I wanted my son to come out and make the decision. They were fine with it. I told them that I did not want them to take advantage of the fact that I was an old lady. They had done 5-6 roofing jobs in the area. They came back when my son was around. They talked and my son liked them. The quality of their job was good. They had too much work at that time and it was raining, also. So, I guess their punctuality was fine with me. I would use them again in the future.

Great, removed old siding, wrapped the house above our expectations, put on new siding and painted the house! Finally, a person--Steve Cunningham---who knows how to get the job done right
Description of Work: Steve Cunningham and Anita did a fantastic job!!! Not only did they call us when they said they would and show up on time, they made sure our siding and paint job were excellent!! Finally, someone who is true to their word. We got 3 quotes and they were in the middle on price, but we could tell Steve Cunningham knew what he was talking about and they did some extra things that were not mentioned by the other 2. We are so glad we used Steve and Anita, they even called us on vacation to keep us up to date!!! And they came in the evening to meet with us. They are customer service #1. We watched the work by one of the other companies we got a quote from-----our neighbors used the other co.-- and we are so glad that we called Steve. His attention to detail was above par. I would recommend this company to anyone., especially if Steve were heading up the project!!!!

I obtained 3 different quotes to replace my standard door with a sliding Glass Door in my kitchen, and chose Exterior Home Improvement based on their ability to accommodate my specific needs. Other companies offered a custom door to fit the opening or making the opening smaller. Steve Smalley with EHI was able to order a standard door from one of his manufacturers that was a custom fit without the custom price. Their prices were not the cheapest, but the best value for my job. Steve came to my home to assess my needs and then proposed two different options. He was knowledgeable and direct about what would work best for our situation. While he didn't have the specific door that I wanted to see in stock, he was able to find a satisfied customer willing to let me see her door installed. When I saw how well it functioned and how nicely the casement windows, with interior blinds complimented the slider, I had to have those in my kitchen as well. After I signed the contract, Steve walked me through the Installation process and pointed out every thing possible that I may not have expected to avoid unwanted surprises. The installers were on time and my door and windows were installed in the time frame promised. Steve also checked in at the beginning of my project, to make sure everything was going as planned. I am most happy that we can now enjoy the view of the back yard during direct morning sunlight, because it is deflected by partially closed "inside the window" blinds. It's a clean look and the temperature in the area is also very comfortable now.

I had Steve Cunningham and Exterior Home Improvement replace most of my windows last year. They did such an excellent job, I asked them to provide a quotation to replacet the remaining windows this year and to replace a front entry door and side lights. Steve recommended options for both the windows and door that were high-quality products at a reasonable price. The installations went very well. The guys were knowledgable, clean, and curteous. The windows and door fit extremely well and there have been no problems. Steve Cunningham follows up on the job and ensures that I am completely satisfied with each job. Mike
