The project manager and crew were extremely personable and attentive. I enjoyed getting to know several of the gentlemen doing the work and I kind of regret that the relationship won't continue. The men showed up on time, were very cooperative, taking small breaks to allow me to let my dogs out while work was underway. Despite daunting conditions (steeply pitched roofing, multiple gables and temperatures in the 90s and 100s), they worked hard, taking breaks only to hydrate and escape the blistering heat. I am very pleased with our new roof and would recommend EHI to anyone and everyone, if they want a top-notch product at a reasonable cost.
Description of Work: EHI removed my old roof, cleaned and replaced several boards, installed flashing, ice and water membranes, high-quality covering and dimensional shingles. They were meticulous about cleaning up every day, collecting the bulk of nails and other metal debris.
I choose Exterior Home Improvements because Steve Smalley was very thorough and was able to do everything I needed done to renovate my family room area and replace my windows, doors, and siding. Steve was great about scheduling convenient appointment times and did not rush the planning of the project. I appreciated the time he took to help me choose the right products to achieve the look I wanted in my home. The installation went very well and right on schedule. Hillary did a wonderful job with the window and door installation, drywall, carpentry and painting the family room. I especially liked the trim work and crown molding he used to finish the trapezoid windows and the great job he did repairing the seams in the existing drywall in the family room. The Everlast siding also came out looking wonderful and they did a great job framing the outside around the windows and doors and finishing the soffit areas. My home looks terrific. Wish I had found this company sooner.
Description of Work: Replaced all windows in home with new infinity fiberglass windows, replaced and painted interior woodwork around windows.Replaced 6 trapezoid windows in family room and master bedroom cathedral ceiling area with custom trapezoid infinity windows and totally reframed interior of these windows.Installed new Pella patio door.Installed 2 new Homeguard entry doors.Replaced exterior siding with Everlast siding and installed vented soffit on gable overhang.Removed paneling from family room, replaced with new drywall, repaired existing wall and ceiling drywall in room and painted entire room.John and Rick painted the interior woodwork and it also looks great.

Our Project Manager did call this homeowner back. After this report was posted our Project Manager called him to ask why he had made this report. The homeowner stated he actually couldn't remember who did or didn't get back to him, and that he wasn't even going to move forward with this project anymore. The homeowner also said he would retract this report on July 5th, but obviously never did.
We wanted to work with a single company that could provide all of these services. We didn't want to worry about scheduling multiple people, seeking multiple quotes, or having damage occur and have difficulty determining who was responsible for repairs. Each service was completed by a different team of workers, but since they were all employed by EHI they knew what the other was doing and when they would be finished and this worked out well. Everyone that we worked with was incredibly polite and very knowledgeable. We signed our contract with EHI in November of 2011, but because of the time of year we knew that work would not begin until spring. Work began earlier than expected, and they began with our windows and front door in February. The team that installed the windows was incredibly neat, they put down drop clothes from the front door all through the house. The front door was a larger project than expected due to our trim being so old and difficult to match, and because our sidelights were independent from the door. Hillary worked for an entire day matching the trim to what had been there before inside and out, right down to the plinth blocks. The only issue that came up during this was a bathroom window that was supposed to be made larger arrived the same size as the existing window. This was corrected without issue. We had decided to add two additional doors to our project, and when they came to install those they replaced the window as well. After the windows and doors were completed the roof was replaced. These guys were also very clean, cleaning up their mess as they worked. Our siding work began after this, and this portion of the job took quite a bit of time. This is not a company who comes in and throws up your siding in three days and moves on, they worked on our home for several weeks. The team of guys that worked on this were very detailed, making sure that the siding lined up as it went from one side of the house to the next. They took as much time as necessary to make sure that the windows and doors were trimmed perfectly. As they worked they found some rotten wood that needed to be replaced, brought this to our attention and took care of it. The same was true when they found that there was no insulation in the space beside the windows where the old window pulleys had been. They made sure everything was sealed tight, and brought any issues to our attention right away. They found a problem with the foundation under a portion of our home, and stopped work so that we could get this repaired. As expected, siding can be a bit of a messy job, and they did an excellent job cleaning up. We purchased storm doors from a home improvement store, and EHI picked them up for us and installed those as well. I noticed that some of the white brick moulding from the door was visible after the storm doors were hung. This was very apparent since our siding was clay colored and so were the doors. I didn't even have to mention this detail, before the guys left this was fixed and it looks perfect. The new gutters were installed in less than a day. Previously we had down spouts placed in weird spots, and I was so glad that these guys installed the new down spouts in different spots making them practically disappear because they blended in with the siding. Painters came and painted all three exterior doors, inside and out. We had stain work to be done on the outside trim of the front door. They made a special trip to our home so that we could select the stain color and they could match the paint. They worked for approximately two days, were very neat and did an excellent job. The last thing that we had installed were the shutters. The same team the installed the siding did this, and they look perfect. There were only two things damaged during this entire project. When installing the siding the accidentally tore two of our screens. This was pointed out to us and they were taken to be repaired. They also damaged a piece of our drywall when the were removing the old exterior chimney. This was pointed out to us as soon as it happened. The only thing that wasn't five stars was that there seemed to be an issue with our sales rep. He seemed very in tune to our project at the very beginning when we originally signed, but was not very involved when work actually started. He called, but was not onsite during the window installation at all like was originally promised (the installers told us he was supposed to have been onsite at least twice during work). His assistant eventually took over while he took a hiatus, and we only saw him once during construction before he and the company parted ways. This didn't cause any problems, the owner of the company took over in his place near the final phases of work, and because the guys that were working on our house seemed to really care about the work they were doing, his absence wasn't a big deal. EHI was not the lowest quote that we received, it was in the middle. This company is incredibly detailed...the entire construction process took a lot of time, and we had no problem with that since the work was being done right. We are incredibly pleased with everything that they did and would most definitely hire them again for any future projects.
Description of Work: We replaced our roof, had new siding put on our entire home, new gutters and removed an old concrete block chimney. We also had the windows replaced throughout most of our home (11 windows total), a new entry door with two sidelights, two other exterior doors and storm doors for all three doors.

They were supposed to provide a quote via e-mail within one week before our spring break. When we returned from spring break (2 weeks after the initial visit), we still hadn't received the quote. My husband followed up via phone and was told they were very busy. We received the quote 2 hours later. For a similar quality window, the price was also $2000 higher than the company we selected, who provided very prompt service thoughout. Hopefully, this was an anomoly as we were hoping to consider them for other projects in the future.
Description of Work: We received a quote for replacement windows. While we were impressed by the knowledge and professionalism of the owner, we were disappointed by the responsiveness we received.

Lee Phillips was an excellent project manager to work with. He was very professional, considerate, and helpful. I needed to replace siding on one side of the house due to sun damage and had a budget in mind. The first price quoted to me was higher than I had expected, but Lee was able to work with me and reduce the price a considerable amount. He kept me updated on when his crew would be coming to complete the job and came by afterwards to examine their work. I would definitely call upon this business again in the future and recommended them to anyone who needs this type of service.

From the start we had complete confidence in Steve Smalley and his company. He took time to explain our options, gave us detailed estimates, and worked with us to reach an agreement on what was going to be done as well as the price. There was a delay in getting started on the job but he kept us informed about the timing. The workers that were here were very professional and did a great job. They took the time to listen to our concerns and did whatever it took to satisfy us. They came up with the perfect solution to finish our bay windows and they look so much better than before. We feel that we got much more that we expected and love the look of our house!
Description of Work: We had Everlast siding installed on our house and also had the shutters and gutters replaced. Work also included re-wrapping the the windows, installing aluminum soffits, painting a screened porch and garage door, and replacing light fixtures.

We were requesting a quote to get new siding. We were new to the process and knew we were going to have to spend a lot of money but didnt know how much. So we decided to begin getting quotes and Exterior Home Improvements did a house down the street from us and was top rated on Angie's list so we gave them a call, this was around October 20th.Steve Smalley the owner came out to our house shortly after making initial contact with various samples of products. He gave a very good presentation, talked a lot about the troubles and issues with fiber cement and strongly recommended not using fiber cement. He guided us more towards the high end vinyl. We appreciated his recommendations as we were new to all of this. We also discussed the option of doing some stonework in order to break up the siding a bit. He had some good ideas here and we decided to have him do two quotes for us. We felt very good with Steve after he left and waited anxiously for the quote. Two weeks passed with no quote and so I contacted Steve. He apologized, said they were busy and would get us the quote by the end of the week. After about three weeks we did finally recieve a very detailed quote. It was nicely laid out and included a lot. Upon receiving the quote we had a few questions, some changes etc. to see how we could work with the quote and make it fit our budget. Needless to say, these questions went unanswered or took a very long time and I had to do a lot poking and prodding in order to get a reponse. We stuck with it though bcs he had been rated so well. So we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Our last contact with Steve was on Dec. 10th I believe. We gave up on Exterior Home Improvement and decided to take a break from the project bcs we had lost our excitement during this process. We were very willing to spend a lot of money $20-$30,000 and had the process gone smoother we probably would have done it. But we became disillusioned by it all.

Exterior Home Improvement ordered and installed a new entry door. The initial meeting with the salesman was very good. We signed the contract in January, expecting a possible six-week turn-around. The door still was not installed by the end of March. In the meantime, we sold our house. We were about a week away from our move date of April 17th and the door was still not installed. We did not receive any calls concerning the order status, and I was very worried and called them. I was told the delay was due to special glass but that the door had arrived. I was not aware I ordered special glass, nor was I told I ordered special glass. Due to the short time before our move, they said they would try to have it installed before the move date, but they didn't know if they would have anyone to install it since the installers were busy installing the doors that were scheduled. However, they found an installer who said he would install it the Friday before we moved. Two men arrived that morning as planned and installed the door. So from start to finish, the entry door saga ran from January 11, 2012 to April 13, 2012. I would say this is not very timely. The salesman was out of town a lot. No one seemed to follow up, and I never was told of a delay.

The Project Manager on this project was unfortunately out of town due to a major family emergency the past couple of months off and on. Apparently this did affect this project slightly. Anytime a homeowner wants a status update however, they are welcome to call the office for that information. The information that the homeowner had sold their house and needed this door done due to the fact that they were moving was not conveyed to the office by the Project Manager. When we called the homeowner to tell them their install date was coming up was when we were made aware of this. At that time the door was due to be delivered on a Wednesday, we made arrangements to have the door installed that Friday. The door was installed with no incident and the homeowner was contacted afterwards. She stated she was very happy with the door and the installation. We apologize that she endured some stress.

This entire experience for us was frustrating and disappointing. Upon calling Exterior Home Improvements for a quote, they were quick to reply by phone offered to meet us at our home to discuss the scope of work. At that point, we felt good about hiring them... but from that point forward, the entire experience was a downhill slide. The first visit (from a salesperson, rather than an employee who would be doing the work) was informative and helpful, but he arrived 30 minutes late. So did the workers who ended up doing the job. Tardiness I can forgive, but it happened with EVERY visit -- and the work itself looked like my three year-old daughter did the job. The trim work was HORRIBLE. Ultimately they fixed it, upon my request, but again they arrived late and cleaned up NONE of the mess that was made while doing the work. Months later, I am STILL waiting for a receipt for the work and the product and warranty information that was promised. Considering the high rating this company has been given on Angie's List, I have no explanation for the way we were treated. For us, the experience was a bad one -- and it seems to be reflective of their business practices, rather than innocent oversight.

We at Exterior Home Improvement never like hearing that someone is still upset after we thought we had made things right with them. The issue of our installer's being late will be addressed. As far as the workmanship, all we can do is make sure we correct whatever the homeowner is not satisfied with. We did make sure we took care of that. In this case we want to clarify that nothing that upset this homeowner was deliberate. They did wait a little longer than average to receive their warranty paperwork. However, that in no way means that had there been an issue, we would not have taken care of it. We pride ourselves on being a respnsive and accountable company. We felt we did what we could and should have.

I met with Steve Smalley back in November to get a look at samples and get a quote. He was very easy to work with and had many styles for us to choose from. He gave us a couple of weeks to look at things and then I called him back to let him know we had made a decision. Steve came back and we went over everything with him to make the final arrangements. As this was a custom order, he told me that it would probably take 6-8 weeks for everything to come in. That timing was pretty accurate. EHI called the last week of December to schedule the installation. The work took place on 1/4 and was completed within 5 hours. I was amazed at how quickly things went. By the time the guys were done, you would never have known we had a new door put in (except it looks much better than what was there!). Everything was cleaned up and put in order. Everyone with EHI was very pleasant to work with and very professional.

Insurance required us to get three estimates. Finding three contractors that offered to come out and give us an estimate was not difficult. Finding three contractors that followed through on their promise proved very difficult. Steve showed up on time and brought his mason with him. His estimate was thorough, professional, and price competitive. After factoring in the 10% Angie's List discount, Steve was well below the other estimates. After offering Steve the job, he meet with me an laid out a repair schedule and corresponding payment schedule. It was important that the garage was sealed up because winter was coming. Steve had the damaged brick removed and the framework repaired immediately and the old garage door was put back in place until the new garage door could be installed. As soon as the new (and much nicer) garage door and track was delivered, it was installed and works perfectly. Actually, it works better than before. Finding matching brick proved to be a challenge, but Steve and his crew located some in Tennessee. On the first warm day after delivery, they were at my house installing the new brick. The brick and mortar are a perfect match to my existing brick work; which I was really concerned about. The drywall was installed. The garage door and interior where repainted (again perfect match). I was really concerned about getting my house back into pre-accident condition. Thanks to Steve and crew, the house is nicer than it was before. My wife is already looking for more work for them to take on.
Description of Work: My mother ran into the front of my garage; destroying the garage door and doing excessive brick and frame damage. Exterior Home Improvements restored the front of my house and inside of my garage to its original (or better) condition. This involved replacing damaged brick, garage door, garage door frame, and interior drywall.

We were very happy with Exterior Home Improvements, Steve Cunningham and Anita are quite the dynamic duo in a good way demonstrating what quality service is all about!! The initial meeting went very smoothly. They were polite, pleasant, charming & forthright in answering questions. No high pressure tactics were used which we appreciated as we had indicated we planned to get several quotes for the job. They did a thorough job of going over all the options. Within a day or two, we contacted Steve to get the project in motion. When he and Anita arrived with the contract and paperwork we totally enjoyed his sense of humor, high energy level and dedication to the smallest details. He was attentive and worked with us so that we got exactly what we wanted. With 21 years in the industry, Steve knows what he is doing. Both he and Anita were extremely helpful. We had selected Scottish thistle, a pale driftwood type green, to go with sandstone (silvery golden tan color) for the gutters and storm doors to match the new windows which were wrapped in tan. It was Steve who suggested we choose Winterberry (a dark cranberry color) for the shutters and the doors to make things "pop". We never would have thought of doing that and the color combination is BEAUTIFUL!! The day after that, Steve returned to oversee measurements for the windows being ordered. We did have a wait for the windows we ordered to be delivered and then installed before the siding could be done. This did bring our timeline to the holidays which was of some concern to us. The best advice Steve gave us was to think of this as a big wonderful holiday present beautifully wrapped which we were giving to ourselves!! It did help to relax us and we appreciated that. The main gentleman on the siding was Tim. He did a FABULOUS good job in every way possible. When we ran into the soft rot problem with some of the garage's wooden structure; it was Tim to the rescue. His patience, attention to detail, fine craftsmanship and hard working ethic were very uplifting. When he got done that old garage looked BETTER than it had ever looked in its whole life!! Thanks SO much Tim!! Steve checked on the work daily, constant as the Northern Star - making sure we were headed in the right direction The pricing was very fair. Having a contractor with that much integrity and pride in his company's work is PRICELESS. We would HIGHLY recommend Steve Cunningham, Anita and EHI to anyone. Especially if you have ever been burned or left stranded by other contractors/handymen in the past; you will find that this experience will give you an awesome PEACE OF MIND and SATISFACTION to the max. A good contractor is worth his/her weight in gold and a company that stands behind their work and does quality work in a respectful fashion are two VERY GOOD things is what we learned!
Description of Work: Our house build is 1955. We needed new siding, new shutters, new gutters, and new soffits for our home and for the detached garage. Under our old siding was yet another layer of wooden siding so old it was painted avocado so both layers had to be removed. We had no insulation at all for the walls therefore all exterior walls were wrapped with insulation. There was quite a bit of soft wood rot out in the garage. We did a change order to take care of this. When they were done repairing and replacing the wood; the garage looked BETTER than it had ever looked before. Mother Nature caused some delays in the work getting done but they were always prompt to start it back up again.

Overall, pretty good - several weeks delay on the start of the project due to normal construction delays - weather mainly. Also a delay with receiving the doors from the manufacturer (special order). But once started got done pretty quickly. Professional quality and good customer service. We had an issue with a broken glass pain on one of the doors (not the new doors but one of a set of aluminum glass paneled doors that leads to the outdoors) - once they had rebuilt the porch, it was tighter than it had been so one of the doors did not shut properly. Also, the glass pane in that door got cracked in the process. We had to call them to come back out to fix the door so it shut properly. Then had to haggle a little to get them to give us a credit so we could replace that pane of glass. In the end, they did credit us the amount that the hardware store estimated it would cost to replace so I felt okay with that. Would have preferred that they called me and said there was an issue with the door and we'll fix it later this week - than just come home and find it not working properly. They had to then send their project manager out to look at it,then get the workers back out to fix it. I would do business with them again.
Description of Work: Rebuilt a large section of a screened in porch on the back of our house. The wood had rotted so replaced all of the wood with a weather resistant product. They also replaced a set of french doors with a brand new set (required a little modification to fit).

Steve Cunningham literally took me by the hand and led me through the entire process. He was knowledgable about costs and sensitive to our budget. He was aware of what could and could not be done. He was responsive if I needed to be in touch with him. When there was a cosmetic probelm with the finished project, Steve came out at once, and took more than adequate steps to have the project finished to my satisfaction. I didn't have to worry about one thing during the process. The whole company, and Steve Cunninham in particular, went above and beyond our expectations of service. We would use Exterior Home Improvement again in a heartbeat, and would highly reccomend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: We replaced two old doors on our 1920's Broad Ripple home. One was a side service door. One was the front main entrance. On the main door, we also asked them to slighly redesign the trim to increase the curb appeal of the home and keep the archiutecture more in keeping with the age of the home. The side door had no sill, so they had to build a sill for that door.

I called 5 different companies that I found on Angie's List to see if someone could help us with this situation. All the companies were booked solid. Steve S. called me back and said that he would be happy to come out and assess the situation. He came out took some pictures of the proposed work and then sent me an estimate. The work started quickly after that and was finished within a day. I was impressed with the courteous nature of the workers that were here at my home. In the past the the companies that have been hired to do work for us have not been professional nor courteous. Everything went well and we were happy with the finished product. The piece of soffit did come loose, but when I emailed the company to let them know they came out right away and fixed it. They were so quiet we didn't even know they were here! I really appreciated their responsiveness and professionalism. We will definately be using this company again!
Description of Work: A piece of soffit had fallen from the overhang of the roof near our newborn's nursery. We had also seen a raccoon trying to pull down other pieces. We had the soffit piece replaced along with a buffet window area reshingled.

With the help of Steve the whole project went very well. I was concerned we would be able to tell the difference between the new siding and trim and the 30 year old siding and trim that wasn't replaced. But it all blended very well. It was a difficult project but due to the expertise of the crew the house looks great. They did a very good job of cleaning up the work site and nothing was damaged.
Description of Work: Replaced all damaged cedar siding on south side of home, replaced all dated cedar siding on front second story, applied house wrap and ice and water shield behind new siding, replaced all rotted trim, and painted all new siding and trim.

Outstanding service and workmanship from start to finish! We had done LOTS of research on windows and siding replacement companies and wanted the same company to do both jobs so we could have better assurance that all of the work would "fit right together" when it was all completed. Exterior Home Improvements had received high marks from Angie's List members for their work in both of these areas and we called them. Steve Smalley (Company President) personally met with us on several occasions to discuss the work and provide estimates on different replacement options for both windows and siding. He answered all of our questions, provided product samples, and also addresses where they had recently completed work. He did not try to push us toward one product or push us to make a quick decision about whether to go with his company. Steve assured us that if we decided to go with Exterior Home Improvements, he would be personally engaged with us until the job was completed and we were satisfied. We chose to do business with him. The windows work was completed over a three day period in early December. The crew showed up on time and took great care to minimize the mess, covering the carpets, scaffolding over our landscape, etc. After removing the window frames, they checked all supporting boards, and replaced rotted boards as needed. They did an excellent job cleaning up both inside the house and outside at the end of each day. As promised, Steve checked in with me each day to see how I thought things were going. The new windows and frames look great! The following week, the siding crew removed the old cedar plank siding, wrapped the area, and installed the new siding. Once again, the crew showed up on time, and did a great job. Upon completion of the siding job, Steve personally inspected the work and noted that there were a couple of touch up areas to paint at the very top of the house. He promptly took care of this without being asked. We are very satisfied with the professional workmanship of this company - who take the time needed to do the job right! Steve is easy to work with, knows what he is doing, and delivers on his promises.
Description of Work: Total replacement of 16 wood casement windows, with Marvin Infinity fiberglass windows, inspect and repair any rotted wood in/adjacent to the window frames prior to installation of the new windows. Install new wrap on outside of windows and cut/install wood frame on interior of windows to match previously existing window wood frames (except stain color). Powerwash front siding and soffit boards, replace rotted boards and prime/paint to match color of the house. Remove all front siding from house, install ice and water shields, greenguard building wrap and then install Everlast Polymeric Cladding.

gutter repair, roofing, replacement windows

Overall, good quality and once work began, timeliness in completing the project were fine. There was one glitch in that gutters were planned to be around both the house and garage, but the work order for the gutters only included one side of the garage. That was remedied two weeks later.
Description of Work: After signing for roof replacement the third week in July, we waited for work to begin. We subsequently decided to have some windows replaced and signed for soffits and gutter replacement. Due to a backlog of roof work, windows were replaced first in August. The day we signed for windows, we were led to believe roof work would be started at the end of August. When we inquired about when the roof work would begin, we're told " in the next two weeks". This delay continued through September and into October. We had painters and landscapers waiting to begin their work once the roof was complete. I sent e mails to the Project Manager and received a response of " we have plenty of time". One week I was told there were "two jobs ahead" of us. At the end of the next week, that became " two and a half jobs" ahead of us...the number increased. We felt other jobs were put ahead of ours, for what reason we do not know. The quality of work, professionalism of the workers, and neatness of the job site were fine. If I have any advice to give a prospective Client, it would be to get a written commitment re: when the work would begin.

After getting a bid, we decided to have EHI replace our den window & all the trim surrounding it, along with replacing some trim by our chimney & surrounding a large rear window. The crew arrived on time & got the work finished in one day. The materials are high quality which we consider to be an investment in the value of our home. The craftsmanship of the men doing the work is also top-notch. We will most probably use EHI again as we continue to replace windows & maintain our home. They are a professional company that takes pride in high quality work & materials.
Description of Work: EHI replaced one window, along with all the trim around it. They also replaced some wood next to the chimney & some more wood trim around a large rear window.
Everything went very well - Steve is very responsive and does a good job keeping an eye on things as a project coordinator. The crews are efficient and polite, and the company is quick to respond to any questions or concerns. For a job this big, very very little has gone wrong and what few small things did got immediately corrected. The company has gone out of their way to be helpful, so much so that we are now using them to complete some interior remodeling. Something that surprised me about the company is how versatile they are, and have all manner of experts in general handyman work, electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc. So if you are looking for a "one stop shop" for exterior/interior projects, this is your place!
Description of Work: This job was a complete exterior remodel of a 1950's home. Replace all windows including basement windows, replace main window in living room with a bay window (including drywall/framing work), replace siding, replace soffets, wrap house in insulation, and install new gutters. Also a new garage door and opener were installed. In other words a lot of work was done!
