They were the best bid as far as cost. They were competitive. They were excellent. The quality of there work, their timeliness, how they cleaned up, everything was excellent!

I would give them an "A" all of the way.

The company originally did a new roof, siding, windows and doors for us.The process went well. The job was completed just as explained. It was a great experience. Five years after the original job we needed help with repairs to the siding. The company was great in their follow-up. This was not a job they made any money on. I'm sure it was more of a nuisance than anything. They were great in ordering just one box of siding and having someone come out and do the small repair. If fantastic customer service after the job is important to you work with this company!

Lee Phillips came to give estimate on 5/7. He AND boss measured on 5/13. They said door would be in between 6/10 and 7/10. Lee called to say the door was in would install 6/13. We had a couple of problems and Lee was here in less than an hour to take care of them. Painter came on 6/17. The whole process took a month and all went beautifully. Lee was always a delight to work with.

Our old siding had been on for about 20 years and was showing its age. Steve's team was extremely helpful in helping us select the right type of siding and they exerted effort to get us exactly the color that we wanted by going to a different vendor. They helped us understand the different quality/benefits of siding that is currently available. We feel we made an informed decision due to their help. They were easy to work with --- communication was great. The install was professionally performed --- they wrapped our house, shored up and/or replaced weak boards and installed the new siding in just a few days. The paint crew came by about a week later and painted a couple different colors on our garage door so that we could make a final decision regarding color for the trim. They painted our front door, no charge. The owner, Steve Smalley, is very hands on and has very professional crews. Steve came by again after the job was done and we walked around the outside to make sure every was perfect. The price we paid was not the cheapest of all the bids we got but the quality of the product and the finished result was good value. I have lost count of all the people who have stopped by --- neighbors and strangers -- who say our house is beautiful and they are right, it is.

We found Exterior Home Improvement at the Indianapolis home show in March, 2013. After having had quotes from numerous window companies for new windows (ranging in price from $3K ? $20K), we liked dealing with EHI?s low pressure sales and willingness to work on our schedule. After meeting at our house and explaining the products they offer, Dan Vogel, the project manager had us set up a demonstration of what we?d actually be buying by making an appointment at their showroom/warehouse. It?s always important to actually see the product you?re buying rather than seeing samples. We decided then it was time to officially pull the trigger and get new windows from a company that had their stuff together. Though we were a little hesitant that they used sub-contractors, Dan Vogel, insured us that they were qualified installers from Alside (the window manufacturer) and that any issues we had we could bring them to him directly and he?d address it. We signed the contract and paid the deposit to get the order placed. The owner of EHI, Steve, and Dan then came and got final measurements to ship to the manufacturer. We then waited 6-8 weeks for our order to be made, then set up a 2-day installation date. On the day of installation, Dan came to the house early to make sure everything was prepped for installation and we met the two installers. After order of windows was established the installers began work. Dan would leave to go to other appointments but would come back periodically during the day to make sure everything was going smoothly. The installers did a great job in making sure they didn?t damage the house or the outside and did a good job picking up after themselves. I asked questions a lot to make sure I knew what was going on. They were pleasant to respond and didn?t mind my curiosity. After day one all but a few windows were in place. One window though was in the wrong hole but it was a simple mistake because of two windows being nearly identical in size. A simple switch of the two windows was done the next day to remedy the situation. A better job or marking each window could easily fix this but, again very minor and not a big problem or setback. Also, a few parts of the windows had broke in delivery and needed to be replaced. They brought them the next day and installed them so they were back to new condition. During day two, the manufacturer also came to inspect the installers work. I met him briefly but would have liked to maybe talk to him to make sure everything was done correctly. With day two coming to a close, all windows were in place, insulated, caulked and finished. The installers even did a good job of working around our sleeping baby to make sure she got her nap. The only thing left was the remainder of the final bill and cleanup. With a thunderstorm approaching quickly the installers rushed to load all equipment and trash. A small amount of leftover trash from sawdust was left for me to cleanup, but it only took a broom and some muscle to get up. Also, the window sills had debris from installation in it that needed to be wiped out. In retrospect these are not very big at all since I understand they wanted to get out before the rain hit (that?s where the B rating in professionalism comes) but the details do matter. A few days after a complete installation, Dan met with us to inspect and instruct us on the new windows. He also provided us tax credit paperwork too for our new windows. Overall, we are VERY pleased with EHI?s job and our new windows. I would really recommend them to friends and family. They know their products, do it at competitive and fair prices, are willing to work with you and are no pressure salesmen. We haven?t yet had cold days to compare our old windows to our new, but are already seeing a difference in the summer heat. Great job!

We had developed a leak (obvious spot on the ceiling) in the family room near the fireplace. Elbert determined the cause of the leak and scheduled the work very quickly. Their online email system is sometimes unreliable, but they respond immediately if called. They are conscientious and helpful. They scheduled the work, called right before they came out, and performed the work in a timely manner. All appears to be fixed and the leak taken care of. I would definitely call them again for any repairs or issues. Good to work with.

Paid for service on Jan 4, 2013. Was led to believe service would be completed soon, weather permitting. Even though there were numerous good weather days, didn't hear from anyone until early March. Work completed soon thereafter. Probably a misunderstanding, but would have preferred to pay for work just prior to having it done. Sales rep Jay was very friendly and helpful. He went out of his way to make sure I was kept informed, as well as advising me on a possible new roof. Lost contact after payment was remitted, but re-established contact shortly before job was completed. Two gentlemen showed up to complete the job. They were both very professional and competent. Excellent work done. Would definitely recommend Elbert for quality of work.

I am fine with them, they are going to do a new roof for me probably in the next month. The gentleman that came out was great and was very professional. He went over everything with me and did pictures and videos, it was great. The draft's very nice.

No hard sell. Steve answered all questions. The installers, David,Scott,Kyle did an excellent job installing the windows and cleaning up everything. Exterior Home Improvement,inc is a company you can trust and the job done right.

We were pleased with the overall result but encountered numerous delays.Work was supposed start in August but didn't happen until October.

Jade came out after the April hail storm and assessed our roof for free...he concluded that we should qualify for a new roof through insurance and he came out for 2 different insurance adjusters to point out all the damages and get us the most covered repair under our policy...he did a great job fighting for us...everything is being covered by insurance thanks to his professional skills and knowledge. The work has not been completed yet, but I expect the best based on what I have seen so far. After waiting 10 weeks to get on the schedule we are cancelling our contract...our contract said work would start within 9 weeks and be completed within 11 weeks and here we are at the end of 10 weeks with no proof of anything from Elbert.

Contractor did an excellent job of replacing old windows with new energy efficient vinyl windows. Old windows on west and south side of house had severe dry rot. This problem was corrected and window exterior wrap installed providing a very nice looking sill and brick mold finish. All detail trim and caulking were done with excellence. Extremely pleased with how quickly and efficiently this project was completed including the clean up and haul away of debris.

Elbert was professional, prompt, serious about doing the job right and I appreciated these qualities very much.

Absolutely outstanding. Not only is Steve personable, he is a man of his word and very efficient. He said bending the powder coated aluminum is an art, and he was correct. Even the diamond design at the top of the brick was perfectly covered. We could not be more pleased. He kept us informed of progress from beginning to end. He prides himself on outstand work and outstanding customer service.

The quote was pretty decent. The only reason I didn’t go with them was because I had signed up with the other company before and the insurance company didn’t approve of the whole thing. They wanted another quote so I signed up with them. Then the other company told me that I already had a contract with them. There was an issue and that is why I didn’t go with Elbert Construction Inc. I had to go with the other one. They came on time and they were polite. Responsiveness was very good. The only thing I didn’t have was the structural service bond.

I can't say enough good things about Steve and his crew. I got 3 quotes for this job and while this quote was the highest I'm SO glad I went with them, I instantly liked Steve and he was totally willing to work with me on price without sacrificing quality. He's the real deal, you can tell he really wants you to be happy with the job and he enjoys what he does - he's not just trying to make a sale. The craftsmanship of the knee-wall is beautiful as are the windows and door. Hilary was the project manager and his work was incredible. He was also completely courteous and professional the entire time. Steve was great about communication - always returning my calls and texts in a timely manner and keeping me in the loop about the project. I will definitely hire these guys to replace my windows down the road. I really don't think a company gets much better than this.

You can stop looking for a general contractor because you found Exterior Home Improvement. This is our 5th time we have worked with Exterior Home Improvement and I can highly recommend their services. We started out getting an estimate for replacing all the windows in our home. Steve was very responsive in providing the initial estimate and the 3-4 estimate adjustments (we added on tinting and changed a window configuration). We made the decision to replace the rest of the windows late last year and the installation was done by Hillary and his crew. They did a great job in keeping the worksite clean and worked with me to replace windows in certain rooms on set days to cut down on noise since I was working from home that week. Hillary is a good guy and always took the time to answer my questions and even gave advice on prepping and painting the interior windows trim. Steve followed up after the work to do a quality check on the installation and to ensure I was happy with the work. Note- our install included the replacement of the interior trim around each window. The trim was unprimed so, if you plan to do your own painting, ask Steve about the option to use pre-primed trim. It will be worth the $$.

We called Exterior Home Improvement to get a quote to replace three windows in the kitchen, as well as the sliding glass door that leads out to the back deck. The owner, Steve Smalley, came out to our house to give us a quote. He spent at least 30 minutes at the initial consultation to make sure we understood what was available. After receiving two other quotes, we decided to go with Exterior Home Improvement, mainly because of the time that Steve spent with us. We had replaced a window several years ago, and at that time we had a custom exterior color done with Pella. Steve was able to contact Pella and get that same color again for us. He also came by once the windows/door were ordered so that we could pick the caulk color that was closest to our exterior paint color. The windows and door came in about a week earlier than expected, and they were able to complete the installation in one day. During the installation they found that the house may have settled some, and had to spend extra time to get the windows and the door to be level. The windows and door open/close so much easier than our previous ones, and there's no longer a draft coming in!! Steve was not there the day of the installation, but he called the next day to confirm that everything went well and that we were happy with the job. I would definitely hire them again.

Lee was great. Very prompt. Very professional. His estimate was the most thorough and detailed of the four contractors we contacted. Although every contractor we called had earned numerous "Super Service" awards from Angie's List, only two of them actually delivered superior service and Lee was the best of the bunch. He patiently answered numerous questions and walked us through the many options available. Only my wife's unexpected (but welcome!) pregnancy stopped us from moving forward with this project. Maybe next year!

It was fine but we just went with another company. The insurance amount was approximately $5500. It wasn’t anything we didn’t like. We just had 3 different companies to choose from and we just didn’t choose them. They were all pretty much the same. Responsiveness was fine. They were late couple of times whenever they had the appointment.

My wife and I had been discussing home improvement projects, and had decided that replacing the windows should be at the top of the list. Our house was built in the mid 50's and still had the original single-pane windows. We had no idea how much it should cost, so I contacted four contractors, all with positive reviews from Angie's List and scheduled quotes. For the purpose of this review, I will not reveal who the other three contractors were, as I am not reviewing those contractor here. After we received the first quote, I remembered an old friend that I rarely see anymore works for window company outside of the Indianapolis area. I contacted him to ask some general questions about what I should be looking for in windows and a ball-park per window price. After I had all of the quotes, I could easily eliminate one of the bids because it was way higher than the rest. The other three were all in the same price range. I eliminated another bid due to the fact that that company subcontracted the install work. It came down to EHI and the last bid. I do have to say that EHI was not the cheapest bid we received, but they were still in the price range that we knew we should be in. This is where I started asking more specific questions about the products and the installations process, which is what led me to EHI. We ultimately chose EHI for two reasons. First, we never had to go through a sales pitch. EHI does not have a sales staff. The person that comes to your home to quote the project, is a project manager and is your point of contact throughout the entire process. Our PM was Rick Kunzer. RIck was always professional, informative and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. The second main reason we chose EHI is because when they install replacement windows, the tear out the old windows all the way down to the wall studs. We found that the standard practice is for window companies to remove the old sashes and install the new windows inside the frames of the old windows. EHI will even replace the trim with new trim if you choose. After we had decided on EHI, RIck and Dave came out to measure all of the windows again. Dave heads up the installation crew. He has decades of experience and it was a relief to me that the guy installing the windows was the one measuring them. A few days later met Steve. Steve is the owner of the company. He came out to double check the measurements of the garden window before he submitted the order with the manufacturer. Fast forward a few weeks, Rick calls to inform me that our windows have arrived. He asks if it is alright to have them installed that Saturday. He tells me Dave has a large project he is working on, so he would prefer to do our install on the weekend, or it could be a few weeks before he is done with the large install. After discussing with my wife, we agree that Saturday is fine. Dave and his crew arrive around 8:15 Saturday morning. Every one of the crew members were polite and professional.We had brunch plans with an old friend, we told them we would be leaving for a little bit, which was also best for our 3 month old baby to not be around all of the dust. The offered to put up barriers in the door ways to keep the dust down in the rooms they were not working in, but I declined because I knew we would not be home most of the day. We returned around 1:30 and were amazed to see that they were cleaning up! All of the windows had been installed in less than 5 hours! They vacuumed around all of the windows and when they left you could hardly even tell anyone had been there, except for a small amount of saw dust in the drive. Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience. I would highly recommend EHI for any home improvement project, and will definitely use them again in the future. Wecould not be happier with our windows. A+++ experience all around.

Began on time, were courteous, adept, and cleaned nicely before leaving. Company representative, Rick Kunzer, went above and beyond to make sure we received the best service possible. Recommend them highly!

We obtained three quotes and chose EHI. We signed the contract in September of 2012 and the windows arrived in November. The entry door arrived in early December. Installation of windows took a couple of weeks primarily due to the holidays and weather. The door was installed in a day once it arrived. Window staining and painting took a bit longer, but I was very diligent to insure the stain and paint matched the trim in the room. The painters were very good and very patient and did a nice job. As expected the staining and polyurethane process took longer. We were not in a hurry and EHI worked well with our schedules. It is a long process so patience is required. EHI came at the recommendation of a friend and are highly rated on Angie's List. I would definitely use their services again.
