While the workmanship was excellent, the 6 month time frame (from start to finish) was unacceptable. Had I not constantly called the company, I believe the job would have taken more than 6 months. Often my phone calls were not returned. Workmen did not show up on an agreed date and did not call to reschedule. The work was contracted in April, finished in October.

Exterior Home Improvements installed 29 replacement Marvin windows and 8 custom, odd shaped windows. They subcontracted the 8 custom windows to a glass company, which did a great job. However, although the quality of the Marvin Windows is fantastic, the installation of those windows was pure amateur hour and extremely disappointing. The work involved putting new interior wood casings on the windows. Some of the casing was crooked and needed to be totally replaced. The installers put caulk everywhere, including the interior casement where it was not needed. The interior caulking jobs were horrible - in some places the caulk was put on the wall 1" or more awayy from the point where the casing met the wall. Much of the exterior caulking was also a mess and needed to be redone. The installers totally ignored rotten wood pieces on the exterior that should have been replaced, and had to come back out to do the work right. This work was done two years ago, and I have spent several hours the past two summers fixing their exterior caulking that has pulled away from the windows. I do give them credit for coming back out when I demanded that they fix their work, but their quality control was nonexistent - I was their quality control.

The bulk of the project ($18500) went to the window installation. I contacted Exterior Home based on reviews and they offered the Marvin Windows I wanted. I did get other quotes, and Exterior Home was about the same as another company. What sold me was the fact I got an assigned project manager (Lee) who was fantastic. He came to my home a few times during my decision making process to discuss my questions and concerns. He also was very on top of things when it came to do the and was in constant communication with me as to progress. The crew was great - efficient and precise. This was by far the most expensive home project I have ever committed to and luckily it was a great experience!

We were impressed with our sales consultant (J.R. Lynch). He did a great hob of explaining the construction process and interfacing with our insurance company. Coordination between the sales and construction group could have been better, but we had a good experience overall. We had a couple of instances where we weren't happy with the workmanship, but Elbert made it right.

I met with Bob the sales man, who was friendly and professional. We worked on a plan that would fit in my budget, I put a deposit that day and he ordered my windows. It took roughly around a month or so for them to arrive. When the arranged at arrived, the two man crew were employees and not temporary hired hands, which I feel keeps people more responsible. The crew cleaned up their messes, answered my questions to the best of their abilities. Later the sales male checked in on the progress and picked up the final check. My only suggestion would have been to be educated and decided on some of the details before hand. I was asked if I wanted full or partial sash (I believe that was the term for the tape around the edges). I had to consult friends for the difference and preferred choice. But it all worked out great in the end. I am happy with the service and plan to return for more windows as I can budget.

The work was started on time. It took a little longer than expected due to an incorrect measurement on the chimney cap. They cleaned up after themselves. They did need to return to completely clean up after the siding was done. All in all we were pleased with the quality of the work completed and would recommend this company.

I contacted Exterior Home Improvements to add a window to my dark family room. We discussed my options and I ended up going with a large decorative window, 2 feet wide by 60" tall. Hilary, the crew lead, had to cut the opening in my house and install a header as part of the job. They repainted my whole wall once the work was complete. Steve referred me to Mark Van Zant at Designer Glass Solutions to do the decorative window overlay. I love my window and the extra light it has given me. The work they did was perfect and I am extremely happy with it. I would recommend them to anyone.

Excellent, Excellent job!!! I'm extremely impressed with the work that Elbert has done for us so far. They have completed the bulk of the repair work from hail damage, with a total cost of $32,000. I'm sure they have other great salespeople too, but Chris Sheets has been nothing short of spectacular. From the very beginning before we even signed a contract, he explained every single detail of how the roof and gutter replacement would work. Chris took a lot of pride in explaining how Elbert is very meticulous about the installation process, ensuring that all installation steps are followed that are required by the manufacturer for the warranty. He explained how taking even one shortcut in the required steps can cause the manufacturer's warranty to be void. We chose the TruDefinition Duration shingles (Teak color) from Owens Corning. Elbert is one of the only roofing contractors in Indiana that has a rating of "Platinum Preferred" with Owens Corning, and only contractors with that rating are allowed to install for the type of warranty we chose. We did a lot of online research about what to look for in a roofing contractor before making our final decision. The thing that we noticed over and over that really stood out in our minds was all of the articles and warnings about how over half of the problems with roofs are caused by incorrect installation, and not by the actual shingles themselves. So clearly, with the risk of a voided warranty, and with the risk of performance problems down the road, the choice of contractor is just as important as the type of shingle, if not more so. So for us, Elbert was the only choice. We've been nothing but elated with their professionalism and the quality of the work they've done for us so far. They've been meticulous with the installation, with the cleanup, and with the followup. We couldn't ask for more from them. And I have to say that right after the hailstorm, there were "storm chaser" roofing contractors coming out of the woodwork, making all sorts of crazy promises about working out a "deal" (which is illegal by the way) where you don't have to pay your deductible, or that they can do the work right away. All I can say about that is don't be stupid....you BETTER be skeptical about anyone making those types of promises. If you have to wait a couple of weeks longer to get the best contractor for your job, then be patient and BE SMART! There are a lot of scammers out there, and there are a lot of unethical contractors who will make promises that they can't deliver on and that will say whatever they think you want to hear just to get the job. Elbert has been nothing but honest, transparent and upfront about what they can do and when they can do it. One other note before I go. Before we called any contractors for estimates or interviews, we chose to have our insurance company conduct their damage assessment first. We then gave our insurance company's estimate to the contractors for their bids and estimates. Some people would think that this approach is counter-intuitive, but it turned out to be the best approach for us. We were very concerned about the insurance company's assessment compared to the assessments of the contractors, and we had a lot of anxiety about how we would ever be able to work out the differences. However, Chris immediately took charge of ALL negotiations with the insurance company on the variances in the assessment. He took photos and measurements and took all sorts of extra steps to prove to the insurance company why the work had to be done a specific way and with materials of a specific quality. There were existing quality issues with the old original roof that Chris wanted to make sure were fixed when Elbert installed the replacement roof. One of several big examples is how the flashing on the old roof had been installed incorrectly in many places when the house was built 12 years ago. Chris made sure that the estimate included enough to replace the flashing and install it properly. I don't think there are many contractors who would have taken that extra step. Others would have just installed the new roof right over the poorly installed flashing. Chris was able to negotiate the insurance company off of their original estimate of $22,000 all the way up to the true cost of doing the work with solid quality of $32,000. Very impressive!! So if you truly want the best, and if you want the peace-of-mind of knowing that the work will be done thoroughly, accurately, and with superb quality, then call Elbert and ask for Chris Sheets!! I don't normally write reviews and when I do I don't normally call out individuals, but Chris' professionalism, honesty, realistic approach, and work ethic have really made an impression on us. Elbert Construction is a great company, and it's people like Chris Sheets who make the experience for customers like us such a pleasurable one. I look forward to completing my review when the rest of the job is done!

I had hail damage from the April storm and was bombarded with contractors left and right. I had waited several months to see who was doing the best work and so I could find out from my neighbors who was the best - the name "Elbert Construction" seemed to have the best overall response. I called Elbert and they had J.R. Lynch come out right away. He was prompt and looked professional and spoke to me with courtesy. After he explained what they do and how they work with insurance companies, I decided to go with Elbert. Everything was great and they did everything as promised. I could not find a better company to do business with. This is what a roofing company should be.

They did a great job negotiating with my insurance. Now the guy who signed the contract with me is no longer with the company and the new guy is MIA. They replaced a roof, left tons of nails behind, took a window to get it fixed about a month ago - never brought it back (so I am missing a window!). Worst thing - they won't respond to calls or text messages.

[member name removed], I apologize for your inconvenience with this project. It has taken longer than we expected to fix your storm window for the patio enclosure but it is fixed now and will be getting installed today. Matt Hannel our sales manager says that he has called you back every time you've called. As for the nails, we try to do our best to clean up everything. When you called and complained about them we sent someone out to pick them up the same day that we finished the roof. It is my understanding that we missed a handful of nails and I apologize for that as well. Thank you for your patience, your window and screens will be installed today. TJ Elbert - owner

BUYER BEWARE!!!! We hired Elbert on May 22nd. On May 26th we gave them a cashiers check for $16,000. Our sales rep said the job would be completed in 30 days. It is now August 28th and materials are still sitting in my driveway and the project remains "in progress". I asked to speak to my project manager today and was told, "He's in meetings all day." I asked to speak to my sales rep and was told he is taking a leave of absence because he is stressed out. Elbert uses subcontractors. On Monday, August 26th, two workers showed up and complained that two others didn't bother to come to work. One was very sick and asked to use our bathroom multiple times. They stayed half a day, wrapped two windows and left a third completely exposed to the elements. No one has shown up for the past two days to finish wrapping the other 30 windows and 8 doors. However, two new men stopped by to look at the project and said they had been asked to assess whether or not they could complete it. I guess the subcontractor is subcontracting the project out?! If I could talk with my project manager, perhaps I would know more... I have done nothing to impede their progress. When their siding people hit a wire and caused electrical problems, I paid $455 to an election to fix it so they wouldn't have to stop and wait for their electrician - who knows how long that would have taken! Bone Dry roofed and sided on my house only 8 years ago. I was going to hire them again but they were honest and told me they could not get to my home for several months. Since we would lose the use of our deck for the summer, we decided to hire Elbert who said they could complete the job on time. BIG MISTAKE! This is a $40,000 job. If they are willing to do this on a larger project, what would they do to a smaller one? If you are desperate and choose to hire Elbert, I would get a completion date in writing - if they miss the date, deduct $50 a day. Do something to protect your valuable time. Also, ask your bank to "manage" the job. That way the bank can do an inspection and only release the funds once the bank's inspector signs off. They have been so awful to work with - who knows if they've done the job properly! BUYER BEWARE!

(Member name removed), First of all I'd like to thank you for your business, and I apologize for the inconvenience this project has caused you. There are several issues that we need to address here. We had a supplement with your insurance company that took a while to get approved, which is the biggest part of the delay with your job. After the supplement was approved we signed a contract and change order on 6/25/13. We have since replaced the roof, gutters, siding, and we just need to do the window wraps. The window wraps are more complex than usual and the crew that we sent out wasn't comfortable doing the job. We have a guy with 30 years of experience coming out this week to wrap your windows to finish up the job. As for the nail in the siding, that was caused by the original siding installers. Our guys were getting shocked taking the siding off of your house and we asked to get the problem fixed before we installed the new siding, which you did and then we installed the new siding. Todd Danbom our production manager has tried to contact you several times but said you haven't answered and your voice mail is full so he couldn't leave a message. It is my understanding that he was able to get in touch with you today and you've cleaned out your voice mail now. We appreciate your business and look forward to getting your job completed soon. Thanks again, TJ Elbert - owner

Exterior Home Improvement's did a great job. They sent Lee over to help with the measure and be the project manager for the job. Even though the job was small, he took his time and made sure we got the right door. The door arrived about 2 weeks later and the installers came and did a fantastic job also. The were kind and did a great job of cleaning up the mess and even hauled off the old door free of charge. Lee then followed up the next day to make sure that the door was set up properly. It was just great service all the way around and would recommend them to my friends.

Amazing! The whole team did a great job, got the job done in a timely manner, and even came back to quickly correct an issue with one of the windows. From the outside, the windows look amazing. The fit in perfectly with the house. From the inside, we were shocked. Our house is full of stained wood and trim. These guys matched the color of the stain perfectly. They did such an amazing job, you would never know the windows weren't original. Except that the quality is a million times better. The original windows were horrible at keeping out sound, wind, weather, etc. The new windows have already proved to be completely different and SO MUCH better. We LOVE them. Everyone on the team was friendly, professional, and a pleasure to work with. We are very pleased with their work.

Exterior Home Improvement's representative were personable and hard-working. Despite working in oppressive heat (near 100° throughout the job), they stayed with it, hydrating frequently. The project manager and owner stuck with it until everything was completed to my satisfaction.

After the wind-driven hail-storm in late October 2013 and having several storm chasers drop off estimates and present their sales message over a several week time frame we were less than satisfied so we attended the builders show at the Fairgrounds during January the final weekend and one of the booths was occupied by Elbert Construction duly represented by J.R. Lynch. We explained to "JR" that we had custom painted gutters matching our trim and he quickly produce an existing gutter sample Bronze color that would match our trim. A few days later "JR" arrived to estimate the roof and gutters. We accepted the estimate and advised "JR" that if we decided to use Elbert it would be after the winter weather vacated Pittsboro and this was fine with them as it was there policy to always wait for faverable weather. When our abreviated spring arrived I called "JR" to set the date and time to do the job. As they prepared to order our replacement supplies we were informed the gutter color had been discontinued a few weeks prior. So with "JR's" help we went through the process of selecting a new color. Finally Elbert's crew arrivede a couple days after the roof supplies were deliverd in late June and at the end of the day we had a new roof. "JR" advised us that the gutter crew would arrive early next week to complete their portion the same day. This overall experience with Elbert and "JR" was very pleasent and totally void of "let's get this job finished pressure". Elbert's crew left our property exactly as they found it after installing the roof and gutters. Their care and concern for the customers property and peace of mind of having the job done properly and cleanup after completion deserves an A-PLUS award. The patience and expertise of their representative "JR" and the performance of their entire crew demonstrated a service-level that is rairly achieved and we are gratefully appreciative and each of these joirneymen should take a deserved bow!

The contractor never showed up or followed up with a phone call regarding the appointment. After waiting for 45 minutes, I called the main office to check on the status of the appointment. The customer service representative at that time checked the schedule, identified the contractor who was supposed to be coming, and told me that he would have the contractor call me with an update. That call never came either. So, after waiting an hour, I had to move on. I was disappointed for having wasted an hour of my time waiting, but more so for the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy of a phone call. Even after I initiated a follow-up call, and was assured I would hear something soon, I still did not hear from the company. It is a shame because they lost out on my business and I am further delayed in my project.
Description of Work: I called and scheduled an estimate for some roof repairs to be done on 7/22/13 at 4:00. In that conversation, I discussed how we were on a time crunch due to trying to get the house ready for rental. The person I spoke with made it clear that he wanted to help and would be there to take a look on the 22nd for an estimate.

The quote was originally requested 6/3/2013, no quote received as of 07/10/2013. The provider was contacted a second time as followup 06/24/2013 and I was again promised a week lead time to quote. The date is 07/10/2013, and I have not seen a quote. Upon attempting to contact the provider I have not been able to get an answer at the provider's cell phone. The nice packet of information that was left behind after our first and only meeting states the following: "1. To assist every homeowner in making home investment decisions that measurably increase the value of their home." I can say that this was delivered on as our conversation was good, we discussed the ins/outs of going different directions with my siding project. Value was one of the major components of our discussion where I was under the impression that we had made decisions on what I would be quoted in the coming week. "2. To insure the image of professional home remodeling agency as honest, dependable, fair -- and agency that builds success through practicing these merits each and very day." This statement in my personal experience is invalid as the service of the provider was nothing less than undependable, unfair, and lacks honesty. Another quote form the leave behind document says: "Our Package is achieving its goal --SPOILED CUSTOMERS!" To this i would respond, spoiled? All in all, I do not mean to bash as I don't see that being in anyway beneficial to either party. What I will do is try to express that, I am trying to increase the value of my home and the appearance therein, through working with Angies List reviewed vendors with high marks. This situation is a let down, especially when led to believe that a quote is in the works twice after having to be the one to followup with the project manager personally, and not the other way around. I have not been contacted by the project manager after our initial meeting one time to tell me that the quote would be delayed because of X. I had to make the call, which leaves me with the mind that the person that would be managing my siding project to be less than desirable. Perhaps my project didn't fit the core competency of Exterior Home Improvement. If that was the case, all they would have had to do was contact me and say, the project is too small/large, difficult/challenging to take on, or simply that they were too busy, to which I would have replied, "Thank you for your time." And I would have moved on. I hope this review helps those needing to make a decision on which vendor to go with for their project in the future.

Response from Elbert Construction Inc
As the owner of Exterior Home Improvement, I would like to apologize for the length of time and empty promises of getting you the quote you deserve. I talked to my project manager and expressed how upset I am with him with this situation. Because of the multiple hail storms around the Indianapolis area, we have been very overwhelmed with estimates, which is not an absolute excuse, especially since you called him and reminded him that you wanted your quote. We dropped the ball with this customer and I am very upset that this customer believed in us and we let this customer down. We do strive to live by our Mission Statement and Job Process every day. Unfortunately we let this customer down and did not live up to our Mission Statement. Since this report, we have gotten the customer his quote and have communicated him multiple times and of course apologized for our indiscretion. We did ask the customer to update this report and state that he did receive his quote. Maybe the grade can change from a F to a C? I am sorry once again and would like everyone to know that this is not our usual business practice as you can see by our reports.

I did have them come out and look at our roof with the insurance adjuster. We did not actually use their services yet but we will. Their responsiveness stood out to me. They had somebody come out the next day and meet the adjuster at the adjuster's time.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Elbert Construction Incorporated for roofing repair.

He found damage and came back to inspect again with our insurance adjuster. They decided that not enough damage was done to warrant a repair.
Description of Work: Gave us an inspection for hail damage.
