Beck's Chimney Sweep

My wife was here for the visit so I don't have the first hand account but everything seemed to go well. They did a good job of cleaning the chimny and gave me a quote for the repair of the masonary work. I haven't had the masonary work done yet though so this report just relates to the cleaning.

The man who worked on my chimney was very patient and helpful. We don't use our fireplace that much, and he walked me through opening the flue. When he found it was stuck, he worked on it for about half an hour--on his own, without me asking him to, until it was fixed and working properly. Then he worked on those pesky metal drapes in front of the fireplace to make sure those worked smoothly! As far as I know, this was above and beyond the "normal" chimney sweeping duties. He also didn't mind when one of our cats insisted on "helping" him.

They did a great job. I’m going to call them again. Their price was reasonable because I compared it to the others. They recommended other work like the chinking, re-chinking and surface work on the outside of the chimney and my husband did it. They were very clean. They gave great explanations as to how they were doing, what they were doing and how they did the cleaning and the process.

He was professional. I felt they were very expensive, especially for what they did. They advised me what I will need for my chimney in the future.

Dave came out to do inspections on both fireplaces. We had some water issues and birds getting in behind the family room fireplace. He completed the inspections and was very thorough. He recommended that the downstairs flue be cleaned and did it that day. He also explained that the water dripping we occasionally hear is a flaw in the design of that kind of fireplace. He ensured us that there was no water damage from it and everthing was in good shape for being 38 years old. He gave estimates to install animal guards and screening off area around the factory built flue system to stop the birds from getting in. I approved those estimates and the work was completed about a week later. We had no problems with birds this year. Great company and great service.

I have used them for years. They are quick, clean, professional, and very nice.

They come out every year. They even offer a discount if you get it done before the fall season. They even send out a card. I got the chimney cleaned in April because I did not want to forget and wanted to get it over with. They usually give me about $10 discount which is for about $147 worth of discount. They come in and lay down the canvas. They move stuff out of the way so that it would not get soiled. They go inside the fire place and look up with their flashlight to see that there is no immediate damage. They would then clean and would vacuum the fire place using a cool vacuum cleaner. I have one of those little glass doors around my fire place and they clean that off. When they clean on the inside, they climb up using their ladder and make sure that there is no problem up there. I don't have a masonry fire place and it is one of those fire boxes. They make sure that there are no holes or anything like that. When they first come in, they ask if there has been any problem and you could then say yes or no. They are very efficient and very good. I think that they are son-in-law and father-in-law who are working together. They are punctual. They are probably a little expensive but I don't care because they do such a thorough job. I am pleased with their price.

I've used Beck's annually at two different houses over the past 11 years and am very satisfied with their work. They are clean, prompt, and professional. (The only qualm I have this year is that the price rose 10% over last year - $215 this year compared to $195 last year, for exactly the same job, and I know my earnings did not go up 10% in the same period. Having said that, I haven't looked anywhere else to compare prices - they could certainly still be competitive.) But regardless, I will still use them in the future; I know I can trust them to do a good job.

Arrived on time, dressed professionally, covered all my living room items that would be exposed to soot, cleaned the fireplace, chimney, ash shoot, and inspected all areas to be sure there were no cracks or fire hazard issues.

The price was reasonable. They were clean and prompt. I thought they were thorough. He was professional.

The guy who came out was nice guy. He vacuumed but we wanted someone to look at it structurally. It just wasn't what we were looking for.

I called Becks and they came out right away to assess the problem of our leaking Chimney. They took pictures and explained the problem to me. I was given a quote and it was very reasonable, so I gave them the job. The work they needed to perform did not require me to be home, but they still called to let me know they would be at my home on a certain day. They were there right on schedule. They went over and beyond the original work quoted. I was also given advice on my fireplace free of charge! They are amazing!!

I have used them for ten years. They are probably the best in the city. I intend to call them anytime soon. They came highly recommended by the people from whom we bought our fireplace insert, but I have used them for probably eight years before that. They are on time. They are clean and do a good job. I haven’t really looked around regarding the price. Based on experience, inflation and having had chimney’s cleaned in three different houses for the last twenty years, I think their price is competitive. I would continue to use them in the future.

It's a double sided fireplace built with a smoke out in one of the rooms that it was in. We wanted to check the chimney and everything was very clean. He said that it did not need to be swept or cleaned and advised how to avoid smoking out one of the rooms. I thought that they were honest, informative and very nice and professional.

Work was done promptly and for the estimate. Would highly recommend the company.

We were using them for the first time. The work went very well. They were very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. We didn't need any upgrades then, but we might need it in the future. So they didn't charge us for advice that we didn't need. They were excellent.

Their price was competitive. He was trained to help us get that thing functional, without necessarily have to do the great big fix that we will probably eventually wanted to make. He was able to make it; so that our chimney was usable right away. He didn't want us to spend unnecessary money; so he was trying to definitely do a job that would keep us safe and help us enjoy our chimney. He gave us options and seemed to be honest. He went up on the roof to look at things and make sure everything was okay up there. He did a very thorough job of inspecting and fixing things; so we could use it. He has been very honest about the process. He was great guy. It had been a small operation; so we were dealing with his wife over the phone and making our appointments. We would deal with him, when he comes in. I feel that it's his reputation, he was trying to step hold personally not just to the company.

Our chimeny started leaking after the recent heavy rains. I called Beck's and they set up an appointment that met the needs of my work schedule. He inspected the chimney and found that the flashing had been dislodged - probably due to the heavy ice storm. He pounded the flashing back into place and didn't charge us anything!

The Beck's rep arrived promptly, set to work, and was quick and efficient. The price was exactly what I was quoted on the phone when I made the appointment. The gentleman was even kind enough to answer a couple of questions about fireplace maintenance while he was there. This was the same service tech who came last year to do a chimney sweep. He is knowledgable, and very willing to answer any questions I have. I will continue to use Beck's services in the future.

I had a very positive experience with Beck's. I called them out because I thought it was time to get the chimney looked at and cleaned. They looked at it and said I really didn't need to get it cleaned. I thought that was admirable because they could have gone ahead and done something and charged me for it. They pointed out a few things for us to keep our eye on. All of this at no charge. I thought they were highly professional. I would tell others that Beck's is trusted and highly professional.

We have 2 gas fireplaces I wanted inspected, so I called Beck's to schedule an appointment. I had to leave a voice mail, but my call was returned the same day. Someone was able to come 2 days later. Dave arrived promptly and got right to work. He was very professional and explained what he looks for during an inspection. Both fireplaces checked out fine & did not need sweeping.
