I signed the contract with Steve in July. He finished the job in March. Problems? Yes! Steve ordered all the cabinets and indicated that he would do my job beginning at the end of September or early October. On the Friday before he was to begin he called me and told me that the cabinets had been damaged when his storage facility leaked during a heavy storm. He had to reorder them which meant that the job could not begin for 6 to 8 more weeks. He began the job sometime near Thanksgiving. Because of travel plans for both Steve and me, we had to make adjustments to his work schedule. That and the fact that his work days were short because of his 2 hour drive each way slowed the job down. But that was not a problem for me. On January 8th Steve told me that was going to give the granite fabricator the measurements so that the countertop could be cut. He said that he would probably be back to install the countertop within the next two weeks. He then asked me for my final check. A little voice in my head said "do not give him the check until the entire job is completed" but I failed to take the advice of the little voice and wrote a check for my final payment. Four weeks later (not two weeks later) Steve called to say that he had the countertop and would be installing it the next day. When he arrived, he looked at the countertop and discovered that the fabricator had cut the opening for the sink too small so it needed to be re-cut. Another two-week delay. Finally the countertop was ready and Steve installed it. He put on the tile backsplash and then told me that it needed to dry before he could grout it. He said that he would return to finish the job "when he had time". Hummm? Since he had already received the total payment, I was no longer a priority. I was moved to the "hurry up and wait" pile. The last week in February I sent Steve a rather hateful email. I told him that I should never have given him the final payment before the job was complete and that I resented being relegated to the "when I have time" status. (I was really angry at myself for feeling pressured into paying early. I have trouble saying no to people but I'll never have that trouble again. I learned my lesson!!) Steve finally came to finish the job on March 5. Remember that I was aware that Steve did not paint? Evidently, not painting included not re-plastering the ceiling. He just left the plain drywall where he had removed the bulkhead. So, not only did I wait 6 months longer than I had anticipated, now I had to hire someone to re-plaster the ceiling. My painter did not know how to plaster so I had to hire another man to do that job. Steve's tile work was excellent. I have no complaints about that. But . . . all of the other factors together with the fact that he left his trash in my garage for me to dispose of, left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. So, be aware of all of this BEFORE you hire him and have every detail of the contract in writing so that you know specifically what Steve will or will not do.
Description of Work: First I need to say that Steve agreed to do my job even though New Palestine is 70 miles from Marion and a 2-hour drive each way. I had contacted him because he had an A+ rating. Before I signed the contract, Steve told me that he does not paint. I know some painters in Marion so that was no big deal to me. Steve gutted my master bathroom including the floor. He tiled the floor and then installed a new base for the shower and tiled the shower wall. He installed a closet and vanity, sink and faucets. He added a second outlet inside the closet which I thought was a clever idea.

We had hired Shepherds' for a full bathroom total remodel in May, 2014 and the job went well. We asked him to come back to replace toilet and vanity in our half bath. There was a hole in the drywall that we wanted him to seal with drywall and install a new vanity. He was to tile under the toilet because the tile was only up to the old toilet. He did not tile under the toilet as we discussed and did not replace drywall behind the new vanity as we discussed. He also accidentally put a new hole in our drywall while installing the vanity. The vanity bowl was purchased at a big box store and after it was installed we saw a crack in the sink. We called Steve to come back and fix the errors of the job and he did most of them. He did not bring a toilet "ring" that he suggested to cover up the hole in our tile under the toilet. He was very busy and we can appreciate that but felt that our job was "rushed" and not completed well. However, based on the previous job he did for us - we would probably hire him again or refer him to friends.
Description of Work: Replaced toilet and installed new vanity and replace drywall behind the vanity in half bathroom.

Steve Shepherd was very professional and explained details of the job well. He did a great job overall and we are pleased with the results. The only complaint was toward the end of our job, he was working on another job and we had to wait a few days for our doors to be hung. We also discovered later that there was not a seal placed along the bathtub where the tub meets the tiled wall. He did return to seal the tub when we asked.

It was a long, drawn-out process. They started in December before the holidays and wrapped up the following spring. It was a terrible winter, and we had several delays along the way. The work, however, was excellent. They did a very good job. Despite any hiccups, we are considering using them again for a kitchen remodeling job. They were very personable.

Steve shepherd and his son Zack are an outstanding team and I highly recommend them. In planning the remodel of my bathroom I looked at several bids from the different trades as we'll as bids from general contractors. Steve and Zack are qualified in all the trades necessary to complete a bathroom remodel, this gave me a lot of peace of mind and uncomplicated the whole process. Steve came in with a very reasonable bid and we could not be more pleased with the outcome. Steve and Zack took our design and made it a reality. Their workmanship is outstanding! We are especially pleased with the tile work they did. They are very meticulous and take no short cuts. They were both very respectful of our home. They placed Canvas tarps everywhere to prevent damage to the carpet. Every night the job site was cleaned and all tools put away. Excellent in all regards you will be very pleased with their work.

Steve Shepherd provided a detailed estimate that allowed me to separate out the cost of labor vs. materials. He provided it in a timely fashion. I got 4 other estimates and decided to go with Steve based on both the quality of the estimate, his reputation on Angie's List as well as other recommendations and his cost was the most reasonable of the 3 contractors that I thought would do a quality job. It took awhile to get started with the project, but we weren't in a hurry. He did come before the main part of the project to install the sink faucets since I purchased new granite countertops separately. I appreciated his flexibility to do this the day after the granite was installed, even though it was a Saturday, so that we could use our bathroom sinks. It took 3 1/2 weeks, with them coming every week day between 10 to 3 or 4. Sometimes Zack, his associate, would come alone but once they started to get into the plumbing, Steve was here as well. They were very neat. Each day they would roll out canvas tarps from the front door, up the stairs and into the master bath and rolled them up when they were done each day. They kept the door to the bathroom closed as much as they could to contain the dust and they vacuumed constantly. They set up a tile cutter outside so they had to go up and down the stairs alot. Steve kept in constant communication with me both before the project started and as it was going on. He checked with me frequently to make sure he was doing it the way I wanted. As I was doing some of the minor remodeling myself, he was generous to help me with a few items with which I was having trouble. He was very professional in all of our interactions. The final bill was was consistent with what we had agreed to. His estimate for the tiling was significantly less than what it actually cost, but some of that was due to my choices. I also only used the estimate on labor costs when comparing contractors since I knew material costs would be primarily depend on my selections. They all use the same suppliers for tile and plumbing. I was very satisfied with the quality of work. I would highly recommend Steve.
Description of Work: In the master bath they removed the existing fiberglass shower, jacuzzi tub, sink faucets, carpeting, light fixtures, mirror, toilet and tile. They installed a new tile shower, sink faucets, air tub, tile floor, toilet, light fixtures and hung new mirrors. In the hall bath they replaced the sink faucets, tub faucet, light fixtures and mirror. In the half bath they replaced the sink faucets.

The job went according to what he said. It took a little over the weeek. He always kept me informed on the status of the job. He put a tile floor and wall, changed the toliet, new counter and sink. He did a real good job on the tile work. I like my new sink in the kitchen. He allowed me to pick the products that I wanted from the supplier. THe price was based on the supplies and the labor. Everything was spelled out. I like the job that was done!

I enjoyed working with Steve because he was open to the idea of doing portions of the work myself, e.g. demo and tiling the backsplash and floor. Steve was very flexible as the project progressed, especially when we requested modifications to the plan. Steve provided good feedback as to what would and wouldn't work well. Steve's tiling in the shower was beautifully done.
Description of Work: Per our design, a minor wall was moved and the toilet, shower and vanity were repositioned. Ceiling and walls were drywalled, shower was built and tiled, electrical was repositioned and the vanity was installed.

Description of Work: Steve has remodeled two full bathrooms for us, one in 2008 and another in 2010. (23,000 total) The 2008 remodel was a complete re-do with an walk-in shower with glass doors, new tile, new floor. He does a pretty good job for a reasonable price, and is an honest man. His follow-up on projects is not the best. He also does not always come when he planned to come, but does eventually come out and do the follow-up work. Additionally, his drywall has issues with cracking. We know of one other client who had the same problem. I was very pleased with the first bath. The second bath had complications in that tile was applied behind the vanity half-way up, and because of this, the vanity would not fit flush against the wall. Because of this, we decided to apply the glass tile to the mirror edge to bridge the gap. This had problems in that the glue was visible behind the tile when it dried. Steve worked with us and helped us get more tile, and then reapplied it. I would work with Steve in the future only if he agreed to improve in the areas of drywall and follow-up. His prices are very good - he is not trying to make a profit on all materials, and he does a good job. Again, we have had problems with grout cracking and drywall cracking in the first bath remodel. These were eventually band-aided, but the fixes have not been long-lasting. There was also a gouge in the wall when

Mr. Shepard and his son were good people to work with. They did the job in a professional way and were never found to be skimping on anything. They did not just patch things up but replaced and redid whatever it took to do the job right. The quote was what they stayed with. The schedule for payment did not change. There were some extras which I asked for after the contract was established and some of these caused extra expense but on many Mr. Shepherd simply included them in the original cost. When an item for the shower was broke during installation I was informed about it and in the same breath told not to worry for another one was ordered and would not cost extra. The time needed to do the work ended up being longer than expected but there were unforeseen problems which helped to cause this. The sump pump [which had nothing to do with the renovation and was the home owner's responsibility to attend to] was not working correctly and we could not dry out the area under the bathroom. This caused a two-three day delay and yet Mr. Shepherd worked around this and in the end helped to solve the problem and did not charge extra. Mr. Shepherd is a good and patient man. He was able to do the work and keep all happy. He had to deal with me as project manager with whom he had the contract, my 83 year old parents who lived in the house and had their own ideas and also the owner of the house who also wanted things done a certain way and yet Mr. Shepherd was able to do his job and never show any hint of frustration and in the end make all happy. You pay for what you get and we defiantly received professional [in every sense of the word] service and I would be happy to recommend and use Mr. Shepherd again.
Description of Work: This was a total remodeling of the only bathroom in the middle of a house. All walls were exposed, repaired, in some cases removed. Both doors were relocated, widened and replaced. All electrical was relocated, in some cases eliminated, and brought to code adding three-way switches, some lights and exhaust fan. All plumbing was rerouted, changed from old copper to flex, toilet and sink were relocated. Tub was removed and a "wheelchair friendly" shower installed. Special "hand made" [due to odd size] cabinets were made and installed. Complete floor was removed and all water damage, rot, etc. replaced and built up. All finishing, painting, trim and cleanup was done by the contractor.

My husband and I requested seven quotes and of those Steve was the only one to incorporate all the details (materials, labor, time frame for completion, etc) up front and offered his expert opinion on what could be done (within current code standards). His pricing was not the lowest or highest but his recommendations for pricing/buying the materials sold us. Economy Plumbing and Louisville Tile in Fishers offered high quality material at reasonable pricing. Once we were done picking out materials - our choices were very close to Steve's estimates. When the work first started we didn't think he would get done in 3-weeks because a couple days Steve showed up late so his son (Zach) did most of the demolition but we were still in great hands with Zach who is an exceptional worker and very knowledgable himself. Overall work of Master Bathroom: Gorgeous! The floor to ceiling tile in the oversized shower (with two shower receptacles - one at each end for hand-held operations) is exceptional. We had this bathroom remodeled once before and it is like night and day - we will never need to touch this room again... The only issue I could say happened was the purchase/installation of the half glass wall and half door for the shower. It was not clear that that total cost was not in his original quote (the glass was installed professionally by another vendor which turned out great). Overall work of Hall Bathroom: Again, it is exceptional. The only drawback would be the grout around the bottom of the tub. There were a couple spots that cracked so we will need to have Steve come and fix those. We already had him back once before to fix the door jam (did not like grout holding in jam so I had him replace it with different wood that extended the door frame).
Description of Work: Remodeled two bathrooms (Master/hall bath). Overall detail included: Combine current Master bathroom and closet area for larger shower (wheelchair accessible), change door opening to a pocket door, change out single sink/vanity with double sink/vanity, update flooring, ceiling fan, lighting, and add another electrical outlet. Update Hall bath flooring, tub/shower, update ceiling fan, lighting, and update single sink/vanity.

Steve and his son did an EXCELLENT job remodeling our bathroom. Steve was very professional from the moment I met him. He arrived on time for the initial estimate and was very courteous. He provided an estimate over the phone after seeing the bathroom and followed up with a written estimate. Steve's communication is excellent and by far the best of any person I have worked with. He made suggestions on where to go for the new materials and was even able to get the tub and fixtures for us at a discount. When Steve and his son arrived each day they got straight to work. They laid down blankets to protect the hardwood floors as they went in and out of the house and kept the area very clean and tidy. When they left each afternoon, the entire area was swept clean and all tools, boxes, etc, were put away. When replacing the exhaust fan, they noticed a potential fire hazard with the old wiring and j-box so they repaired the situation right on the spot. Steve's work is very good and his attention to detail demonstrates his craftsmanship. We changed a few things as we went and added some extra painting and Steve was very accommodating to our requests. I would certainly recommend Steve to anyone and would certainly use his services again.

Steve did a great job with the entire project. The project included alot of tiling, plumbing, and drywall. We have him scheduled to do another bathroom.
Description of Work: Remodeled master bathroom and tiled 2nd bath floor
He did a fantastic job. We are very pleased with it. He was polite. He did all this work himself. He was very neat and clean, cleaning up after himself everyday. We just had new wood floors installed right outside both bathrooms and we were very concerned that those would be damaged, but he was very careful with the floors. He kept them covered. Another thing I liked about him is that he would absolutely respond to you. If you called him he would respond as soon as possible. Steve was reasonably priced and the best priced out of the 3 places I called. We would hire him again.
Description of Work: He completely redid one bathroom by putting ceramic tile in our floor, shower walls and walls in our bathroom. He pulled the tub out and put in a new shower. In one bathroom we left the tub. We had him re-tile the floor and put a tub/shower door over the tub. He removed the old countertops and put in new granite ones. He reconnected the plumbing after the marble and granite tops were actually brought in.

They built the shower as instructed due to unique size. They did good work when they were here. They made it a good environment to work in. They cleaned up well when they were done. The end price was what we had agreed to before they started the job. If something came up and he would either not be able to make it or would be late he would always call and tell you.

Another company installed a drip rail on my shower door incorrectly and never returned by calls to fix the mistake. After several calls to them, I gave up! I called the plumbing supply company who had initially supplied me with the manufacturer's parts for the drip rail to see if they would recommend someone to correct it. They gave me Steve Shepherd's name and number. I called Steve, explained the situation, and told him that I had the manufacturer's parts. He said he would come by in a couple days when he was in my area. He was quite courteous and quickly installed the drip rail correctly. I tried to pay him, but he refused and said he was in the area anyway. He certainly did his good deed for the day! I took a few of his cards to share with family and friends and thought he also deserved some Angie's List praise!
