David replaced deck steps that were in bad shape, making them less steep for my senior dogs. Thrilled with the result! Also replaced deck roofing. First storm, there was a leak, and he was out quickly to fix it. Very pleasant and easy to deal with, kept me apprised of arrival times and any delays.

David replaced my rotting stairs and one problem deck plank that was supporting a couple pillars. He arrived when he said he would and did the entire job in one afternoon. He cleaned up after himself and was just very professional in general. I was pleased with the final result and definitely would hire him again.

Great! David Stillwell was quick to response to my inquiry; scheduled an appointment for several days later; while he was here discussed the project in detail and provided an estimate; and undertook and completed the project the next day. As we have slowly updated our house, my husband and I have been extremely lucky to have been able to deal with people like Mr. Stillwell.

started 2 months ago trying to get a quote for work that was ready to go. very poor communication and responses. if too busy and does not have time to complete this project just say so instead of putting client off over 2 months

He kept me updated, arrived when he said, took accurate measurements, and listened to what I wanted. He kept me apprised of his schedule as the project took more than two weeks. When I had a concern, he addressed it. The fence was on a level grade, so it wasn't a challenge, and he did quality work using pre-fab panels. In hindsight I would have asked him how much experience he had with gate construction - a little trial and error were involved with getting a quality gate, but he did not give up until I was satisfied.

Excellent! David is courteous and kept me informed of his timetable throughout the project. He even suggested updates to the construction plans that saved over $1000. David instilled confidence and went over and above throughout the entire process.

Excellent. David was very professional. The work was completed in a timely manner and within the quoted price range. He kept in very good communication throughout. The deck ended up looking great and he was meticulous with cleanup as well. Not a splinter or nail left to be stepped on by the kids. I would recommend him without reservation.

DON'T HIRE THIS MAN! He was supposed to start my deck project after blowing me off once, he called and apologized, and I gave him another chance, and the day he was supposed to start the job, he sent me a TEXT to tell me that he was not going to build my deck. Now I have to find someone else in the peak of deck season. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

It went great! Very happy with the work

I explained to David Stillwell what I wanted and he took notes and asked pertinent questions. A couple of days later I got a quote and agreed for him and his assistant, Kerry, to do the work. They began construction the next week. There were a couple of minor delays to the November weather, but the enclosure began to take shape and I knew early on I was going to love it. When David finished the job it was as if he had read my mind. The elaborate dog run is perfect and now my dogs have the luxury of running a nice, shaded section of yard with safety and ease. I will have Deck Doktor return shortly to install one (possibly two) dog doors: one that will lead into the detached garage, and another, perhaps, giving access to the house. David and Kerry were both friendly and professional, and I would definitely use their services again and recommend them to friends who need deck or fencing needs and other carpentry needs. A+ in every regard.

HOWEVER THAT WAS JUST THE BEGINNING PLAN FOR THE JOB. ONCE THEY ARRIVED EXACTLY WHEN DAVID SAID THEY WOULD, I STARTED ASKING 'WHAT ABOUT THIS','WHAT ABOUT THAT,' ETC,ETC,ETC. BY THE TIME THEY WERE DONE (IN THE ORIGINAL ALLOTTED TIME), I HAD A NEW GATE, TWO DOORS THAT NOW WORK, AN OLD DECK FIX, TWO GATE FIXES AS WELL AS THE NEW FENCES AND THE BOARDWALK. DAVID WAS EAGER THAT THE WORK WAS LOOKING/GOING/ADJUSTING AS IT PROCEEDED. DAVID AND MATT ARE THE VERY BEST . I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THEM AND THEIR WORK.

The entire experience was great. David made great suggestions for the railings. Took longer than expected but that's because they found a problem on the exterior of my home. But they also repaired that. Very thorough in every detail. Can't wait for them to come back in a few months to stain the deck!

A great experience. Our deck turned out even better our expectations.. The new stairs with the landing in the middle was a great idea. Very professional and nice people. David also was kind enough to remove our old deck furniture and helped move our new grill on the deck. All of the people on David's team, Matt especially worked very hard and all were professional. We have already contracted to have additional work performed at a later date.

David and his team did a great job! The finished the work in two days, carried all the debris away, and even re-mounted our gazebo. I would not hesitate to hire them again or recommend them to someone else.

David and his helpers do excellent deck work. Although ours was only a small job, David is all about making sure we got exactly what we wanted, big job or small job. He pays attention to detail and is very good about cleaning up afterwards. We will be calling him again, when we begin work on our back yard project. If you need a new deck- he's the guy to call!

Went very well. Work was done in a timely fashion and owner kept me informed of any time delays or problems he found. Hard worker and took pride in his work.

I called David Stillwell about early-April for an estimate to power wash and seal our deck. At the end of the week, the Friday before KDF "Thunder Over Louisville," he left me a voice mail message saying he would be in our neighborhood on the following Thursday and Friday. On April 20th, I returned his call, saying Friday would be the best day, and I could clear my schedule to be home all-day. I requested confirmation for Friday, April 24th. No confirmation call from David. I cleared my schedule anyway to be sure I was available. On the 24th I called him mid-afternoon and again late afternoon. No show, no calls. (I understand a small contractor may be inundated by weather delays. What is confusing is when rain delays a scheduled job, and they are not working, don't they then have time to at least make phone calls?)

Great experience. David came out quickly to quote this job and also quoting to clean and refinish the remaining deck. I decided to do the cleaning and refinishing myself at a later date and was surprised at how helpful David was with advice for me. Also, I really liked how I was quoted by giving me a range for labor and materials. He finished the job in one day with help from another employee and did it at the low end of the estimated cost range! The best part is he was going to book me out 6 weeks but fit me in on a Friday instead of starting a larger job and leaving it over the weekend. Overall, this was the best experience I have ever had with a contractor. David was great at getting back to me and getting the job done so quickly.

David Stillwell was very professional every bit of the way through the process of quoting, contracting, updating me on progress and issues, and completing the job on time and on budget. He suggested using 2 x 6 decking instead of standard decking which was a positive compared to other bidders. The previous deck was 2 x 6 construction and it made sense to match previous specs as well as spend slightly more for strength considering the huge size of our clubhouse deck and potential liabilities for the neighborhood association. David did a great job inspecting the deck hangers / replacing rusted hangers, and pointing out other hardware that needed replacing. He was very thorough in all aspects of the job and did very fine work. It was a pretty significant size job which included closing in the area under the bottom deck and adding a security vertical structure by the pool entrance. David completely replaced stair stringers and added handrail bringing the structure up to code. He also worked with Prospect to quickly obtain a permit as needed. He finished the job in about two weeks during end of January right before the bad snow and cold hit the area, so timing was good. All the additional work David did during the job was appreciated and he still came in on budget within contingency. David was on the job most of the time with another skilled worker, and he took personal pride in the work. i will definitely contact David next time I need deck work and will recommend him to others.

They showed up when he said he was going to. They did the work that they said they are going to and it was good.

David Stillwell (Deck Doktor Inc) called me back on the 28th of Oct and i was unable to be at my house for the initial consultation so he said he would stop by and give me an estimate on tearing out the old deck and fencing. He called me the next day and gave me the run down on what he was going to do and how much it would cost. We were very pleased with his quote. The day before he started we met up and went over everything and discussed the time line. He was very punctual and very tidy. We were surprised at the amount of work he did the first day. I had forgotten to tell him that we had dogs so i called him the first day on the job to let him know and he was kind enough to leave a walk way with the old porch for my dogs to walk on ( he didn't have too but we were very thankful that he did). After every day he would call me to tell me the status of the days work and what to expect for the following day. He was very professional and after talking with him, i found out that he was a prior soldier and with me being a soldier as well i knew that i was in great hands. He had some great ideas on the layout and would call to discuss before he acted which we greatly appreciated because we knew he was a master in his trade. Just to sum it up the deck came out better than we ever expected, truly the best experience having Deck Doktor (David Stillwell) making our back yard a place to show off and enjoy for many years to come. His dedication to his profession definitely showed with the quality of work and how great the finished product looked. After we saw how great it looked we are having him come back out and replace our other fence. We couldn't be more happy with David Stillwell (Deck Doktor Inc.).

Originally, we thought that most of the vertical wood could be kept. However, once the horizontal surfaces were removed it was apparent that a good bit of the vertical surfaces (not the underlying structure) were also not in good shape. David added a large structural beam to add support, replaced the wood that needed refurbishing, painted it and laid new composite. We decided to slightly alter some of the design in the process. Essentially, I got a brand new deck and it's fabulous and...David kept it to the original amount of money. This is a terrific company. The owner, David Stillwell, is excellent at communicating with the client. He contacted me immediately when I sent my initial request through Angie's List. He was open and straightforward in our original conversations and communicated constantly on the progress of the project asking questions of anything that needed resolution and letting me know how things were going. He is very responsiveness to the client's taste and ideas but is also a problem solver in his own right when need-be. The work was well done. He pays attention to detail and, at the end of the project, everything was left spotless. He even put all the deck furniture back on the deck for me because it was too heavy for me to do. The price is fair. The work is professional and was done in a very timely fashion. Once the materials were available and delivered they worked through until the project was done. I would recommend this company highly for building or refurbishing a deck.

Built a 12 x 16 deck off our sunroom. Also replaced deck boards on a small walk deck off sunroom. Build sunburst banister around deck and stairs to the yard. All was built to building code and passed county inspection. David did a great job including dealing with issues with the county on getting the building permit, which delayed the job by at least 4 days (not his fault at all). The sunburst design for the railing came out looking beautiful.

He did a good job and I will contact him again for more deck or gazebo work.
