S & S QUALITY HOME INSPECTIONS INC

At the time of the inspection, they were mostly done by the time that we scheduled to start. They voiced concerns with the structure of the home prior to going into the crawlspace and seeing that it was an easy fix. While Mr. Shipley was in the crawlspace, he said that the main beam of the house might need to be reinforced, which he was correct on. This is the only comments he made while he was down there. After purchasing the home, we had an expert come out to clean the air ducts. He noticed that the furnace was full of mold as well as the crawlspace (The furnace was being used and the spores were being sent into the house. I am pregnant so thankfully he caught it as early as he did). He said there was no moisture barrier in place either. He said this should have at least been noted in the full inspection because the mold had been there for quite some time. He contacted both Mr. Shipley and Mr. Self to discuss what they noted. Mr. Shipley said that he does too many inspections to remember but he said he would have told me that there was not a moisture barrier if there wasn't. I would have clearly remembered this if he had. The air duct specialist then called Mr. Self to talk about what he knew. Mr. Self told him that it was my fault for not reading the report carefully and if there was mold in the crawlspace, it would have been in the inspection. I re-read the inspection again and there was even a section under "crawlspace" that said "no moisture". After talking to my realtor about the situation, she recommended calling Mr. Shipley and asking for the money back from the inspection ($350) because I had to pay $2,200 to have the mold fixed, moisture barrier added, and furnace cleaned and UV light installed to keep the mold from forming again and coming into the house through the vents. When contacting Mr. Shipley, he was very rude and said he was not a mold expert and there was nothing he was going to do to compensate me for the extra expenses that I had to pay because he chose not to mention the problem when he saw it.

This was the first time I had used their services. It went well. They are a local company and my neighbor is a Realtor and she uses him so I called. He was able to get out quite soon. He was very cordial and efficient. He gave me a good report that was easy to understand.

The inspector met us at the appointed time at the home, and called 45 minutes prior to arriving. He was very courteous and professional, inviting me to accompany him with the inspection. He pointed out many suggestions and educated me on how to correct minor problems. The inspector took his time to ensure that the job was complete and accurate. He also followed up the next day with an e-mail and attachment of the inspection, as promised. We were quite pleased with the service and would recommend them to others.

I was very impressed with them. They were able to come to my house quickly to do the inspection and immediately found a couple of problems. They didn't stop there and continued investigating and found a couple of other problems that were definitely contributing to the problems. Their recommendations were very detailed on how to solve that problem. In addition, they completed an entire home inspection and furnished me with an equally detailed report, including pictures highlighting the repairs they were recommending. I would absolutely recommend them for home inspections.

Being that this was our first home inspection, Danny and Larry made it a very pleasant experience. Both were polite, professional, and knowledgeable in pointing out items from building codes, safety items, preventative maintenance, to repairs that needed to be made. For the amount of money paid, we felt we received a very thorough home inspection. ($250-Home Insp./ $50-Termites Insp./ $75 -Septic Insp.) Walking around with both Larry and Danny was very informative. During the inspection pictures were taken and put into a detailed color report. Not having an email address due to moving, Larry hand delivered the inspection report later that night. Would definitely recommend.

LARRY SHIPLEY AND DANNY SELF WERE EXTREMELY PROMPT AND ACCOMMODATING. THEY AGREED TO INSPECT THE HOME ON VERY SHORT NOTICE IN THE ALMOST EVENING (THEY EXPLAINED THAT THEY NEEDED A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF DAYLIGHT FOR THE EXTERIOR AND ROOF INSPECTION). THEY REQUESTED THAT BOTH BUYERS BE PRESENT SO WE COULD ASK QUESTIONS. THEIR REPORT WAS EXTREMELY THOROUGH AND THEY POINTED OUT MANY LITTLE THINGS TO US THAT DIDN'T NEED TO BE IN THE REPORT SUCH AS ESPECIALLY GOOD INSTANCES OF PROPER BUILDING AND WHICH OUTLETS WERE ON WALL SWITCHES AND HOW TO FIX A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LATCH PROPERLY. THEY WERE RECOMMENDED BY OUR REALTOR AND THEY WERE REALLY GREAT. THEY CHARGED $300 FOR THE INSPECTION AND ANOTHER $50 FOR THE TERMITE INSPECTION THAT WE REQUESTED.
