Please DO NOT HIRE. Andrew Spears preys on women. I had hired him for various small jobs to prepare my rental for sale. He claimed he could do and finish all work within two days , charging 500 a day plus supplies. He never showed on the first day but his two young sons did. They were limited to the extent of work they could do, stating their dad had the tools they needed to do the work. They had left the tub surround they had pulled out on my hard wood floors without any tarps. When I called Andrew to ask why he never called or showed he explained he had another project, when I asked if he was charging for a full day he said would only charge half day. On second day my husband came with me and Andrew's demeanor changed abruptly. After first day of work Andrew asked for 500 to pay for supplies, when asked for receipts he claimed it will all be on an invoice after work is done. Third day he asked for three days pay and still hadn't started vent on water heater, denying he said he would only charge half day for the day he never showed. Then proceeds to say I will have pay additional money when he comes back to fix water heater flue. His work was poor, left mess, totally disrespectful to my property, cut tile in our family room, when he was asked to come clean his mess and repair his poor work he had an attitude, was cleaning his construction mess with my home vacuum, my vacuum is now broke. He tried to make me feel guilty and accused my husband and I of lying. When asking for receipts he said the receipts were on bathroom wall referring to his work. As time went on and we hired others to repair his poor work we have found more and more flaws in his work, he had left hot wires in attic, fire hazard, tub tile he used wrong grout, uneven, did not seal and left too large of gap for the tub glaze guy to caulk, was never able to put recess lights in that he said he would, left drooping in ceiling where he drywall patched, list goes on , again when we approached him about the poor work had an attitude and argumentive. When he never showed for last part of job we asked him not to come back. Then he became defensive and threatened to put a lien on my house. Please stay away from this contractor.

DO NOT HIRE!! We hired them to install a kitchen tile back splash and remove the old shower and install a new tiled shower, along with a tiled back splash around garden tub. He needed money after 4 days (less than 4 days of work) on 5 day plus job. Brastock quoted a set price, but changed to hourly. After Husband came home from being out of town on day 4, and noticed the grout job wasn't completed for some reason. Andrew said they will complete it when they come back. He said we could wipe in down after 48 hours. He was hurried to leave for the day. We paid him on day 4 for all of the materials and over half of what he quoted. On the Friday before he was supposed to come back and finish the job, he texted us. He wanted $650 more to pick up the pre-made shower base. Husband called him and said for him to pick up the base and bring it out the following Monday work day as we discussed previously, and as soon as it is installed and fits properly, we would pay him. He said he needed money right now for his own personal bills. Husband mentioned about the remaining grout job in the kitchen that he should have not left it like that. He got very defensive and wanted to argue. And that he would have to charge us another half day. Husband told him not to come back. We got (3) more Contractors to come out and quote on finishing the job. They found numerous problems from Brastock's work. The shower backer board was not sealed anywhere including the seams. Two load bearing studs behind the backer board were notched over 50% to make room for the plumbing. Numerous uneven/ unprofessional grout lines, (in both the shower and kitchen). No stud behind the backer board where the corner of the glass panel for the door will be mounted. The shower was tiled before the base which might cause leaking. The kitchen tile had a small wave that started behind the stove. Lousy job around the kitchen switch plates. They sealed the earth tiles with a paint brush instead of sponge per instructions. They completely disrespected the home owners by not cleaning up during their work and after work at the end of the day. They had no drop cloths. They didn't put anything down on the floors, tub, or counters. Homeowner let them borrow his drop cloths and they just left a mess. No cleanup by them at all. They cut tile in the garage with tile dust everywhere. They cut tile and wood in the bathroom and when they trimmed the tile in the kitchen they created tile dust everywhere. Used our granite counter top as a work bench with nothing down. We supplied them with towels to put down. All of the towels and tarps they used from us, they never shook them out and folded back up, instead they just left the mess for the homeowners! Husband was out of town for most of the days, so I believe he thought he could get away with subpar workmanship. All three contractors that came over to review his work said most all the work had to be completely ripped out and start over. We spent over $2700 in new tile. Now we will have to pay someone to remove what Brastock installed and pay to get new tile installed again. Their service and workmanship are very unprofessional. He compromised the integrity of or home behind the shower. It turned into a nightmare.

This contractor sent his two sons to replace my deck. The contractor showed up briefly about 2 hours into the project. The old deck was totally removed before the new deck boards were painted with the Deck Over, so time was lost. The deck boards were placed with large knots on the and straightness, so there are large spaces between boards. Also, the boards were placed some with the crown of the board on top, which is not a problem, but most were placed with the crown down which doesn't allow water to run off the boards. Not a very attractive deck and collects water on the boards! Within just a few days of all the deck boards being screwed in, there was a large crack down the middle of one board that extended to the middle of the deck. There were several places where the paint was coming off and the wood sap was bubbling up. Less than a week after the deck was installed, I contacted Andrew Speer about the problems- split board, paint coming off, and water standing on boards. He said he would send his sons over to fix it. His sons came back on Saturday July 14 to finish and touch up paint. Mr Speer never can to see the problem. His son sent him a picture on his phone. His sons were very pleasant and happy to answer my questions. I received a call at 8:45 that night from Mr Speer who accused me of lying about the problems with the deck. He said I had dragged heavy items across the deck to scrape up the paint. He was extremely offended I had asked if he used treated wood(because of the sap bubbling). He literally was yelling at me on the phone and would not allow me to speak. I tried to tell him I was not accusing him of anything, but was simply asking questions since I am not very knowledgeable in this area. He accused my (25 year old professional) son of talking down to his sons. He wouldn't give me any details, but told me I needed to get my son under control. When I asked my son about it, he was flabbergasted. He had no idea what Mr Speer was talking about. I was there at the time and was unaware of any problems. His sons left on very good terms. I told him I was offended that he accused me of lying about the problems with my deck - I do not lie!!! I stated that I felt his accusations and behavior were unprofessional. I did not intend for him to do other than repair the split board and exchange or turn over any boards that were crown down and retaining water. I even said to him there was no hurry- whenever it fit in with his schedule. After about 40 minutes, he calmed down and agreed to come back to do the repairs. As of August 3, I had still not heard anything, nor had the work been completed, so I sent him a text message - " Do you have an idea of when you can replace the deck board?" There was no answer and there has been no repair of the deck. The extra boards and paint are still waiting by the deck for him to come and complete the job. This experience was very distressing at the time, and as more time has passed, I become more angry! I spent a lot of money in good faith that the job would be done well. Instead, I have a deck that needs several repairs and does not look good for having just been replaced. I cannot replace the board myself because they used a screw that requires a specific tool to insert. I can deal with the peeling paint-- it will just require power washing in the spring and repainting. I am a 62 year old widow and am limited on my ability to do carpentry.
Description of Work: The plan was to replace my old deck boards with new ones painted with Deck Over.
