Description of Work: Gave estimate for adding in-ground sprinklers to an existing system originally installed by Ballard. Quote was competitive with others received, but decided to wait on spending the funds at that time. Original system was installed in 2008. Install went very and have no issues with it over the past 6 years

Description of Work: They installed the original irrigation system. When we tried to get them to come back to adjust the sprinklers, turn on the service, winterize the service they never returned phone calls. No one ever answered the phone. We finally went with a different vendor.

We usually have to call them a few times before they show up. Last year they didn't notify us of a leak that they should have discovered when doing the opening and testing. This resulted in high water bills and yard and foundation issues.

We had used this company several years ago and didn't have a good experience. We built a new home and the builder recommended we try them again as they had been working really hard to correct the organizational problems they had. We used them and did the basic irrigation installation. We then had them come back and add in the outer areas in our 3 acres as well as landscape lighting. They were responsive and thorough. They took time to explain the different zones for the irrigation as well as the new control panel. They provided the closing of the system as well. They were easy to work with.

The installs went well, but the service after was very poor. Dave Ballard is not customer-focused nor responsive. Once he's been paid, he loses interest. He does not back up his product or his work. Run the other way!

Response from BALLARD IRRIGATION
This was a very extensive project involving Irrigation, electric dog fence and pond fountains. During the process there were damages caused to some of the compoients we installed by other contractors during construction, I responded to every complaint and had several meetings to resolve issues. The dog fence had been cut several times by the downspout drains from another contractor, we eventually installed a completly new wire around the entire property at no cost due to problems caused by the many breaks in the wire, at one point i meet the homeowner to look at an area he had concering a small coverage problem, this was almost a year later, i said to him lets go check out the settings on the controller and he ask me where it was located, up untill this point we had been maintaning the system, and i felt the customer had not been maintaing the property or the irrigation at all, there were several problems during the construction of this homeowners property due to the fact he was trying to save money by over seeing alot of the other projects on this property instead of letting the builder he hired use there contractors. there were problems with the retaining walls falling out, trouble with the septic that backed up into the basement and I felt just an over all lack of experince on his part trying to oversee projects with very limited knowledge. I responded to every call and every meeting on time everytime. I truly belive that everything feel apart when the 8' high retaing wall around the pool started to fall out a year later and the wall contractor had went out of business and this was one of the projects he had taken on him self instead of letting the builder, up untill that point we were working together to resolve any and all issues (mostly just watering schedule and minor adjustments on the irrigation system) Until he tried blaming Ballard Irrigation for the failure of the retaining wall. There was a meeting with the builder, the home owner the pool contractor and Ballard Irrigation, and after inspection and analysis it was quickly determined by the builders manager that the wall was not installed corectly. I pride myself being able to get along with anyone and work on the asumption the customer is always right. In this situation I do admit that there was a heated phone conversation when the defect wall was being blamed on Ballard, I belive i was being used as the scape goat for a very expensive fix that the homeowner could not resolve with the wall contractor that was no longer in business. We maintained our warranty completly and to the full extent and resolved every issue untill the end of our warranty. In any event this was very upsetting to me as a business owner.

It was a positive experience. They closed down my system last fall because of a fault. I'm very satisfied and I highly recommend them to anyone. The work they do is quite good.

I e'mailed Ballard last night saying asking for a service call saying I would follow up today with a phone call. I received a call first thing this morning and had the service scheduled for 1:00. The service man actually called to see if I would be home early because he finished up a prior job early. He was there and had it fixed within a half an hour. He showed me what he did and what to look for in case there were future problems (my system is rather old). Both the woman on the phone and the service man were very courteous and friendly. I've used Ballard since 2003 and will continue to use them and recommend them in the future. I have not received a bill for the work yet so I don't know the cost, but they are always fair.
Description of Work: Ballard Irrigation came out for a trouble shooting call. My sprinkler system wasn't working and after looking at the manual I determined that it might be the transformer that was the problem. They fixed the transformer and replaced a solonoid.

The person who came didn't realize that a repair was needed and did not have the tools are parts to complete this repair. Before he had even left I called the company to complain and was told they would send some one out to fix the siphon valve. However, since the system was shut off the valve wouldn't leak anymore but someone would be out to fix it. That was over a week ago, no one has shown up and the valve IS still leaking. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: It took 4 phone (on 4 different days) calls to get a response for service. I needed the irrigation system shut down for the winter and a siphon valve repaired.

Not much of a story. We usually get a notice that they will be in the neighborhood during a certain time frame. We can call and pick a day/time. They have always done a good job. They usually ring bell and let me know they are working, and they ring the bell to say that they are finished.
Description of Work: Ballard comes out in the fall and makes sure that all of our sprinklers are free of water so that nothing freezes in the winter months. They come back in the early spring and get sprinklers operating for summer.

I finally called them & discussed the problem with a lady. I asked what their policy was in this kind of situation. She said they had no control over the weather & the freezing occurred before the system was winterized. Therefore, probably nothing would be done. I thought the whole purpose of having an irrigation co automatically come in spring & fall was to KEEP THE SYSTEM FROM FREEZING. The company information that Ballard shows for Angie's list shows a one year warranty. I would think this means from the time they winterize system to spring when they open it up. ??? According to the response from Ballard Irrigation, he said he called me and explained. AT NO TIME HAS ANYONE FROM BALLARD IRRIGATION CALLED ME CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM!!! I have an answering machine and caller ID, no message and never a telephone number showed up from them. Also, the company that did the repair work, put on my receipt that the system was IMPROPERLY WINTERIZED.
Description of Work: Oct 06 I called Ballard Irrigation 3x to ask them to winterize our sprinkler system soon because freezes were expected. We were on an automatic start-up and winterize service. They said "Not to worry, just to insulate the pipe that comes up out of the ground. The REST WOULD NOT FREEZE." We insulated the pipe & Ballard winterized the system on l0-23. May 2007 Ballard came out to start up sprinkler system. Water shot up in the air in 3 places & a 4th just ran out onto the sidewalk. The man from Ballard said he did not have time to work on it & a ground crew would come out next week. No one came out or called the next week. The following week a neighbor was having his system opened & I talked to his irrigation co. They came over, checked ours out, gave us a price & date they could do the work. Few days later this co fixed our system. Cost was $l80. I called Ballard & left message on machine that if they had a work order for us to cancel it. Ballard did not come out or call at any time.

OUR ONE YEAR WARRANTY PERTAINS TO INSTALLATION OF A NEW SYSTEM. AGAIN, WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE WEATHER AND CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT A SYSTEM WILL NOT FREEZE. DUE TO THE DROUGHT IN THE EARLY SPRING, IRRIGATION COMPANIES WERE OVERWELMED WITH SERVICE REQUESTS AND WE WERE UNABLE TO GET TO EVERYONE EXACTLY WHEN THEY WANTED. THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY CALLED AND TALKED TO THE MEMBER REGARDING THESE ISSUES.

One morning we looked out and saw the Ballard truck. Their employee was getting ready to turn on our irrigation system. After the initial introductions (& surprise that we had not requested it being turned on), they were very informative about our system as well as irrigation systems in general. If we do decide to utilize the irrigation system, we will definitely have Ballard Irrigation service it.

They were professional, courteous, and responsive. I have no doubt that the quality of their design was right on! However the price quoted was considerably higher than any other irrigation company contacted. The bid was $4,200 for the Lawn and an additional $600 more for the drip system for a total of $4,800. The next closest bid to his was $3,200. I contacted 6 irrigation companies. I would love to work with them but can't possibly justify that kind of price for similar work others are willing to do for much less. I would not recommend them based entirely on price.

I will not be hiring them in the future, and other members should know that they need to stay on top of this company. I think they accept too much work, and their service level falls. They extend themselves beyond their means.
Description of Work: We've had them for about 4 years, but they have become unresponsive. We had some sprinkler heads that needed repair before winterizing. I requested that they be fixed so they'd be ready in the spring. The receptionist promised me it would be done. The repairman came out, and told me he couldn't fix it. He then winterized, and I had 2 open sprinklers all winter long.
