Response from Termishield
Termishield was hired by the potential buyer of the property to do a real estate inspection, not the person that made this complaint. Therefore, it is our understanding that the person that made this complaint has no right to review our company. However, we would like to comment on the situation at hand, as we are a very reputable company in our area and take pride in our honesty and integrity when it comes to inspecting a property for a potential buyer. When we are hired by a potential buyer, it is to do a thorough inspection for any wood destroying insects or evidence of wood destroying insects. The potential buyer at that time is placing faith in us to find any problems that have or could effect the home that they intending on buying. Anyone that has purchased a home knows and understands that inspections are a very crucial part of the home buying experience. It is our job to protect any potential buyers from problems that could cost them a lot of money in the future. Just as you would have the home inspected for a leaky roof by a roofing company or faulty electric by an electrician, it is also recommended in our area that you inspect your home for any wood destroying insects since they our area has such a high infestation rate. At the time of the inspection that we did for the potential buyer of this property, we found live termites feeding on the garage in one area, even though the garage had been previously treated for termites in the past. We reported the facts, there was evidence that the garage had been previously treated for termites and there were still live termites feeding on the structure. We therefore recommended that the garage be treated again. The seller of the property then called us 2 weeks after the initial inspection to report that she had asked 2 other companies to inspect her garage that they could not find the live termites. She asked if we would come out to the home and show the termites to her. I agreed to go out and inspect the structure myself. I took along the pictures that the initial inspector from my company had taken during the original inspection documenting the live termites. When the seller met me there I showed her pictures of the live termites. Initially I could not find the live termites due to them being disturbed during the initial inspection. It is know that termites can slow there activity in areas that have been disturbed, which is possibly why the other inspector that the seller hired could not find them. After digging into the wood a little deeper I was then able to uncover live termites again. I showed the seller the live termites that I found and she claimed she "could not see them" and asked me again to please change our inspection report. I told her I would not because I have to protect my clients. Since two inspectors with over 25 years experience between the two of them had seen live termites in her garage on two separate inspections, it would be considered falsifying a report. Our intention is never to upset a seller of a home by finding a live infestation, we understand that selling your home can be a very stressful situation. We would welcome the chance to meet the other inspectors out at the property to show them the live termite evidence with our client and seller present to clear up any misunderstandings.
