My furnace died and I thought that it may be the blower motor. I called them at 8am and they were on location by 9:30am. He replaced the blower motor, but the furnace would still not work blow hot air. He then tried lubricating the furnace blower fan bearings, but they were beyond repair. He ended up taking the fan to the shop and replacing the bearings. While diagnosing the problem, the technician made every effort to do the most cost effective solution first. By the time my furnace was put back together and working it was about 1pm. Given the fact that he had to make several trips for parts and back to the shop to replace the fan bearings, this was a very reasonable time frame to complete the repair. I am glad I had them repair my furnace. I would have been able to replace the motor, however I would have been frustrated trying to repair the fan bearings. I was glad to have called a professional because that it saved me significant time and frustration. The service was provided at a very reasonable price, given the amount of time the technician spent on the service and the parts included.
Description of Work: Replaced furnace blower motor and fan bearings.

They were one of the most expensive bids and had high ratings on Angie's list. The installer of the newer furnace and the water heater worked by himself constantly the entire day. Perhaps that could provide a reason for the huge gaps in fabricating the new ducts, but it does not provide an excuse at any price. As I looked at the duct work and felt the huge gap ( a 1/2 to 1 inch space) at the top of the duct pouring out into the basement I could not believe that it had been left like that. It was pouring out more heat into the basement than the two vents allocated into it. I wanted the OPTION of heating the storage basement. Upon return to pick up the old furnace and the water heater and at my pointng out the gaps to the workers, they used tubes of caulk to seal the large gap. The city inspector passed it after the sealing , but in my opinion in should have been redone entirely if I was to receive what I paid for. There were also gaps on all the other duct work including the cold air return (about 1/8 to 1/4 inch) that were semi-sealed with silicone caulk. I myself will finish that job this summer since their statement was "well you do want basement air entering the cold air return". Hmmm. very odd. If that were true, just leave a little vent to pull it in.. The work from the old ducting system is so neat, so uniform that I wonder that the new work couldn't emulate that. Also, a can like structure was inserted into the chimney in the old hole for the water heater exhaust. It was just sitting there with 1/2 inch gap at top and sides. Again, upon return and again at my request, the gaps were filled with more silicone seal. I wish they would have done A work. I wish I would have taken the lowest bid for $1100 less; I certainly didn't get value for the money. Silicone seal is cheap.

Don't be suprised if the tech finds something when you have them perform their 'special discounted' annual checkups. My $80 checkup ended costing me $200. He was at my home 2 1/2 hours, so I guess I can't complain too much.
Description of Work: I have used Home Comfort Experts in the past. They installed a new Heat Pump --- good workmanship, but very expensive. We were due for our annual furnace checkup, so we called them. They did a very thorough job, but once the tech found out that the furnace was 22 years old, it seemed like he was looking to find problems with my heat exchanger so that I would need to purchase a new furnace. In the end he found one part that was reading out of normal ranges, and I agreed to replace this part.

While I think their prices are a bit high, the work they did and their follow up service has been great. They take caution to not make a mess by covering their shoes, etc. If they do make a mess due to the work they do, they clean up after themselves. My wife and I both were very satisfied with the product lines they offer and the professionalism of the technicians.

The annual maintenance work appeared to be thorough, and included both the new furnace and the humidifier. The service technician discovered a problem with a part on the humidifier, which he replaced at no cost since it was a manufacturer part. Unfortunately, there was also a slight problem with a fitting on the humidifier which resulted in water leak after the part was replaced, which required him to return and fix that problem. The company was very responsive when I called about the leak, and the technician came the next day to repair the problem. However, prior to the maintenance call, in early October shortly after the furnace was turned on for the season, the furnace began leaking a fair amount of water. I only discovered the furnace was the problem after calling my plumber to look at my (very old) water softener that I thought was the source of the leak (since it's old and the furnace is brand new). Although Home Comfort Experts had a technician at my home the morning after I called to report the problem, the technician who fixed the leak told me that it was the result of the installation crew failing to securely connect one of the hoses in the furnace when it was installed last year. Although I have generally been pleased with the operation of the Trane high-efficiency furnace and air conditioner that I bought last year (as well as the humidifier), saving money especially on my air conditioning costs this past summer, and I have been impressed with the helpfulness and responsiveness of the company when called about the problems, I was unhappy to discover that the installation was not performed properly. On the other hand, at least it turned out to be an installation problem and not a defect or serious problem with the furnace!

Called sent estimator out---gave price and then wanted to sell me everything including kitchen sink. Just had the furnace installed. Great job of install except for an error (plate over blower space not big enough and not attached properly. Got free? checkups for a year. In 2012 during a summer tuneup discovered the error above and was told I would hear from someone to correct the situation. Months later have gotten a no call! The last item is just a simple one. When I called for my summer tuneup I also called for someone to give an estimate for a new a/c. They were to come at about the same time. The gentleman who was to do the estimate called twice, wanting to know (since the serviceman was coming) why I would want an estimate. I told him because I may need to replace the one I have because of the law regulating old freon use.He! finally decided he didn't need to come out! I have heard nothing since. My real problem was not the people who did the work, but one rude salesperson!

The first hot weekend this spring our air conditioner stopped working. I noticed the fan on the outside unit not spinning; so I called Home Comfort Experts to come look at it. They quoted $1200 for replacing the fan motor and two other parts and recommended I consider buying a new unit. Their rep came out, did some measurements of the house and the internal unit; then proposed a new unit that would have cost over $4000. Told him I wanted to think about it. A few days later I called someone a friend recommended; he came out within 3 hours, after I got home from work. He looked in the unit and had me turn on the A/C inside. Everything worked fine. He explained that the fan motor was a little stiff, and could go out any time in the next two weeks to two years. He said nothing else needed to be replaced. I replaced nothing and the unit worked just fine all summer. Makes me think they were more interested in making a sale than taking good care of the customer.

We had them out for a tune up of our HVAC system, which apparently had some issues. Not a surprise as the system was original to the house and the house is about 20 years old. I made the mistake of not shopping the quote around, which is my mistake. The cost of replacing the system was a lot. Big house = big system = big price! That's the bad part which I am responsible for because I didn't shop it around so I can't fairly say if the price was good or bad. Now for the good part....they were extremely professional and courteous from the salesman to the installers to the people working the phones at the office. The installers left things clean, they explained what they were doing, and they worked hard. It was about 100 degrees on the day they installed and a decent portion of the day was spend outside for one of the guys. We did have a problem with one of the AC units they installed. The cooling in our house just wasn't right. After a couple of techs came out to visit to try to make adjustments and do things right, they just went ahead and re-installed a different unit. They absolutely made it right and backed their work. Perhaps I paid too much - perhaps I didn't. I thought their follow through and attention to customer service was amazing and it probably makes it worth whatever extra I may have paid.

I had no A/C since the furnace blower was bad. I called and got a salesman at my house on a Saturday afternoon. He went though the house to size the unit selection up. He was great to talk to and very informative. I got an appointment 3 days later. The installers came a little later than expected BUT that was because the A/C and Furnace were still being delivered from out of town so not the installers fault. After all, they only had one business day to place the order. The installers got right to work removing the old system just as the new system arrived. It took them all day but in the end everything was running great. The installers were very nice and professional. It was a great experience.
Description of Work: I needed a new A/C and furnace install due to previous ones being original with the house built in 1990. This place came out and gave me an estimate that seemed high at first until they said it included two free visits per the one year warranty and a free duct cleaning.

Called to set up an appointment to quote a new furnance and AC unit installation. While the person on the other end of the phone was nice, when the time of my appointment came, no one showed and no one called. When I called to see why they wasted my time, they didn't have it in their calendar. Apparently, Home Comfort Experts has all the business they need. As with our previous experiences with Home Comfort, they were very professional and prompt. Great communication. They email a reminder with a photo of the technician. They also called to see if they could come an hour early, which actually worked out perfect for me on that day. The technicians explained what they were doing at every stage of the operation. When they were finished they cleaned up the area around the furnace and left it cleaner than when they arrived. Only complaint I have is they forgot to put the cover back on the furnace humidifier. However, due to the obscure location I could see how that would have been missed and it was easy for me to put it back on myself.
Description of Work: Had our air ducts cleaned. They brought in a big vacuum unit with a hepa filter. Went to all the registers and returns and cleaned thoroughly using some pretty fancy air compressor attachments for loosening up any dust/debris in the ducts.

After Home Comfort Experts installed an HVAC unit in our home on 08/23/2010 improperly by their own documentation on 09/27/2011 resulting in extensive water damage to the home and our belongings Home Comfort Experts did agree the water damage was there fault and they did pay for the restoration company. They offer a 100% money back guarantee in writing on their product, but that has not happened yet. I asked Home Comfort to pay for the added expense for the electricity used by all the commercial restoration equipment. In addition I asked for compensation for all the trips my entire family had to make to the Doctor due to "moisture issues" in our home for over a year. I asked for replacement cost to cover the items damaged due to the water damage in the crawl space. I asked for the interest we paid on the loan they secured for us to get the system and I asked for the cost of the system to be refunded. I began asking for all of this in October of 2011. I have gotten the run around for six months. They agreed to some of the costs (replacement cost of items and unit), I offered unit cost and interest to be paid (a lesser amount) January 18, 2012 (Wednesday) in a conversation with Todd Mann the owner. He said he would call me back that day or at latest 01/23/2012 (Monday) after a day and a half for an out of town trip he had planned. I never got a call back. I called at 1:20 Monday the 23rd no Todd or his manager Dave in the office. Melissa called me later that day (01/23/2012) to set up a removal date for the 25th or 26th. I stated until there was an agreement on the dollar amount we should delay removal so we were at least able to pay off the loan they secured for us to purchase the unit. I also needed to make sure my contractor could be available to install a new unit on the same day and he would need notice to plan that (it is January in Indiana). I called at 5:05 and left a message with the answering service 01/23/2012 (Monday) that the 6th would be fine if we could reach a dollar agreement prior to that date. They said Melissa would call me back 01/24/2012 (Tuesday) to confirm that date. I never got a call back. I called and left another message for Melissa with office staff on 01/26/2012 (Wednesday) and never got a call back. I called on 01/27/2012 and spoke to Dave the manager. I was told Todd was out of the office. They would only pay the cost of the unit. I said that wasn't what Todd had discussed with me on 01/18/2012. I was told to "shut up" and "don't call this office again before Thursday" 02/02/2012 when Todd was suppose to be back. I was shocked that I was just yelled at over the phone by Dave. Todd had been very rude in past conversations as had Dave, but to yell like that surprised me. My Husband called on 02/02/2012. When he gave his name Todd was not in the office. He called right back and got another person and asked for Dave with out giving his name and was told Dave was out of the office, then she asked if he wanted to talk to Todd instead, he said yes and then she asked his name. After he gave his name He was put on hold for a few minutes, then she came back to say Todd was on another line and would have to speak with Dave before speaking with my Husband. That was last Thursday, it's Monday. No calls yet. My Husband has called twice a day Thursday, Friday, and Monday. We now are sure after six months of both of us trying to get resolution on this that they have no intention of honoring their guarantee. We are left paying month after month of 14.9% interest on the loan and higher gas and electric usages than ever before, while they refuse to have integrity. I URGE YOU NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! THEY LACK HONOR AND INTEGRITY! THEY WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR WORK OR THEIR PRODUCT! BTW... Our house never sold. Do you think it had anything to do with restoration company trucks in our driveway for over a month on and off? We do! We want our belongings back. We want their unit out of our house and our loan paid off. We would really like the added expense of dealing with this company to be paid back as well as the interest accrued due to their lack of action! Unfortunately, it seems it will take more than our phone calls at this point. How Sad!
Description of Work: We were quoted a loan at 10% on 08/20/2010 for the cost of the HVAC unit. We were charged 14.9% interest to finance it. They installed the unit on 08/23/2010. They did not seal the "line set" at the time of install. Water came into our house at every rain or melting of snow. We couldn't figure out where all the water was coming from. We did notice the thermostat wasn't working right the first of November, so they came to replace it 11/16/2010. They didn't mention water in the furnace area (Large Crawl Space). They sent out anouther tech on 03/29/2011 for a courtesy check. He noted the thermostat was cross wired and repaired that mistake, but again did not mention water. We listed our house for sale 07/20/2011. Another courtesy check was done inside and outside on 08/15/11. Report says everything was fine, but again no mention of water or improper sealing of the line set. We noticed wet spots in out family room carpet in the corner near the line set on the other side of the wall in 03/2011, but could never determine the source. In 07/2011 we found water on top of totes in the crawl space two inches deep soaking boxes of fine china and cooking equipment stored on top of them. We still could not find the source. On 09/27/2011 it had rained all night and was still raining that morning when we woke up. I decided it would be a good time to see if we could find the water source. I opened the door (it's about three and a half feet tall) to the crawl space that is at least six feet from the exterior wall and my pants were getting soaked from the water spray. It was clear the water was shooting in from the place where the lines from the air conditioner come into the house. They used the same hole that was used for the previous unit. They just didn't seal it at all. My Husband went out in the pouring rain and began to dig a large trench to divert water in another direction in order to stop it from shooting in the house while I called Home Comfort Experts. They sent a Tech out that day, he in writing reported that it was an improper install and it needed to be repaired immediately. An Installer (one of the two that did the original Install) came out and sealed the "line set". He claimed he did not do that part of the install even though he was the senior Installer on the job it wasn't his fault. There was a restoration company that came out the next day and ran commercial blowers, dehumidifiers, and ozone machines for over three weeks in both our family room and the crawl space. There was extensive damage to the walls the flooring and personal items we store in the crawl space.

They’re nice. However, they wouldn’t really give me a price. They would say things like “we want to know what your budget is.” They were one of the more expensive ones around town. I felt like they were trying to get my money.
Description of Work: Home Comfort Experts came out to put on a new part on our air conditioner. We ended up replacing the air conditioner but we went with someone else to replace it that was much cheaper. That was in July.

Short exerpt: The furnace cleaning turned into a major furnace repair with a working furnace at the beginning of the day. It not only was NOT working when they left but they also left it in a very unsafe state! I would be NOT recommend using this company at all!! They do not respond when emailed but have to be pursued. No way would I use them or recommend them at all. Read on for the entire story.... This all started with a Groupon offer. $39 for a furnace inspection and cleaning. Good deal I thought. So we set it up with Home Comfort Experts Heating and AC out of South Bend/Mishawaka, IN. who was offering the Groupon. They came out, guys name was Bill. He proceeded to open the furnace cover. Likeable enough guy. We chatted about furnace filters as he was inspecting. He continued taking things apart and looking around and then said he needed to go out and get the scope out of his truck. 'They don't like us leaving these out in the cold but I do anyway' he said. So he brings it in, sets it up and proceeds to use it to get the furnaces model number and a picture of myself, talking to someone I'm guessing who would later view this. He then proceeds to put it in the furnace and look around for cracks in the heat exchanger. We continued chatting. He said 'these Bard furnaces are built like tanks. The converters look good still. Tiny bit of sparring there but nothing major.' All the while I'm using my flashlight to assist because he brought one that was pitiful at best. So he takes the scope out and puts it away and goes and gets a vacuum. He's vacuuming different areas up. I tell him I'm gonna go to the bathroom so I leave and that takes around 10-12 mins. I come back he's in the process of putting the furnace back together. I'm asking how it looks. He says looks good. So he turns the gas back on and we're still chatting. And then he goes 'do you smell that?'. I reply 'smell what? What's going on?'. He said gas. I'm like what??? He says yea. put your nose down here. So I put my nose down by the gas valve and I can now smell gas coming from it. I said 'did you tighten everything up? The pilot down there?'. He tightens it. Now the gas smell is getting stronger. He keeps putting his nose down by the valve repeating ' there's a leak here. Smell it?'. I am now concerned. We did NOT have any leaks whatsoever when this all started. The whole purpose was to just clean the furnace out. He did not move things around much at all at least while I was there. I said how much is a new valve? He replies $687 and shows me a plastic card with prices of various components on it. But I don't have one with me.' GREAT! What started with a simple cleaning has now turned into a nightmare. He says 'I wouldn't run this with it leaking'. I ask don't you have a tester or something to see where exactly this leak is coming from? 'No, mine broke' or he lost it or whatever lame excuse he said. I replied Hey I'm concerned here. I've got kids, this was NOT leaking to begin with. What happened? 'Well old furnaces can have problems that's why I didn't want to move things around.' So the gas smell is pretty noticeable at this point and I'm getting very worried. He says I wouldnt' run it like this, you need to get a valve. and begins to walk away back to his truck. He was non commital about whether it was safe or not to leave it like it was, leaking. So he leaves and I thought I need to get a second opinion on this. My wife comes home and jumps me about leaving 'a gas leak going like that, I can smell it everywhere!'. By this time I'm majorly stressed as what started as a simple cleaning has now become a major safety issue! She turns the gas off. I get another company in, Land Heating and AC. The tech comes in with a leak tester. Checks the pipe coming in all the way down to the valve. It goes berzerk at the valve. So he uses a lighter to test for leaks. The pipe checks ok, he gets to the valve and POOF the thing lights up like a pilot light all around a seam on the unit. He blows it out and does it again, same result. He says 'I've never seen a valve leak in that spot before, it's almost as if a gasket was removed or damaged. Were you here the entire time with him while he was cleaning?' I replied most of it but I went to the bathroom for a few mins. He says 'this is totally unsafe. I would not use this till I got it fixed.' and turns the gas off. Long story short, wife called local company got a universal valve, I went and bought it $176. Called Land back to replace it. He came, one hour job turned into 3 hours as they had to also replace a card that works with the valve to turn it on. And in the process found a exhaust pipe above the furnace that was rotted through. He did say it was a poor job of inspecting if they missed that. Nothing like exhausting carbon menoxide fumes through a obvious hole that was missed! That was $380 for this repair to get the card/valve/pipe working. So a simple cleaning job turned into a $680 repair bill!!! $39 for Groupon, $85 for second opinion, $176 for valve,$200 for card and another $180 or so for labor to put that in and get the whole thing working like it was at the beginning of the day! Wife called Home Comfort explaining the situation, the manager said what would be fair, my wife said 'take care of the labor costs. We understand it's a older furnace and we'll take care of the parts'. He said that shouldn't be a problem I'll ask my GM tomorrow'. So we thought it was taken care of. They'd do their part and handle labor and we'd pay for parts. A fair, equitable deal. Next day, wife calls them. Manager says 'we'll refund your Groupon for $39. That's it??? That's all my GM will allow. My wife is fuming at this point. YOU caused this mess and we're trying to be fair and equitable and you'll refund only the $39??? After several emails, calls were left the GM finally replied to us saying 'we'll only refund the Groupon and we consider this matter done.' NICE company pal! We are reviewing our options presently, contacting a lawyer

I did not use them; their estimate was a little high and I did not like the salesperson. I will not have them quote again in the future.
