They were very flexible in helping schedule for a second home. They even went back the same day to make sure I wasn't stuck without heat and to make sure it was working.
Description of Work: They do handyman work. Furnace repair. They replaced an inducer and cleaned it.

As outlined above, it went poorly from the start. These people are NOT a professional cleaning service and don't seem to have the equipment necessary to even do any sort of thorough job on a home other than possibly a small ranch home with 8' ceilings. I have never paid such a price for house cleaning, though I probably would have felt it was warranted had this company come in with professional, effective equipment. I've had various cleaning women through the years who came equipped with ladders, poles, etc., left the house sparkling, cleaned the windows, and charged almost half of what Home Matters Cleaning Service charged. Unfortunately, in the rural area where my second home is located, women don't regard house cleaning as a long-term career and seem to drop away from this type of work after a year or two. I felt that a service such as Home Matters would be more reliable and would stay in business longer than the people I've had in the past, which is why I responded to their ad in the first place. Additionally, I assumed that a service would have professional equipment that would give them an advantage over the "part timers." I have subsequently asked around of other people who use cleaning people and none pay anywhere near $185., let alone $230.
Description of Work: I have a second home in NW Indiana, used about 8 days a month. Because I was having Thanksgiving company I decided to hire a cleaning service to thoroughly clean and dust the house. The "cleaning service" owner came to my home the week before at which time we did a walk-through to list what needed to be done. I have an especially high (23') A-frame ceiling with a cross beam, high windows, and a soiled beige ceramic tile kitchen floor (size: 5' x 6'). I was asked if I wanted beds changed, windows washed, laundry done, etc. and I said I didn't. She asked if I would be wanting the basement level done on a regular basis and I told her no, though I would want the entire house done the first time. I was assured none of this would be a problem and that two people would come for the initial cleaning. I was given a price of $185., which I thought was exceptionally high but she said they "really do a thorough and professional job." On cleaning day, one woman arrived with a small caddy of cleaning products and a Hoover vacuum. She told me the other person was sick so it was just she who would be doing the work. Her dusting mop was average length so that she couldn't reach any of the window ledges or ceiling fans, thus those didn't get done. I was told she would bring a longer duster "next time." She cleaned two of the three bathrooms, but only wiped out the sink in the third bathroom. When she announced she was finished I looked at the soiled kitchen floor and asked why she didn't get to that, to which she replied that she HAD scrubbed it but the dirt wouldn't come out. I reminded her that I was told they were a professional cleaning service that could clean difficult surfaces but she said she didn't have any idea what to do about the tile floor. In spite of the fact that the owner originally told me they had a steam cleaner "that will take all that dirt right up," the woman they sent seemed at a loss to understand how that would be possible. I then called the owner of the service and expressed my displeasure. I was told they would bring different supplies "the next time" but she did offer to send the worker back before that with a longer duster that could reach the high windows, beam, and fan. At that point I gave her a credit card number for the work that had been done but was shocked to subsequently receive an email receipt for $230.00. She explained that the basement level was an additional $45. and that she had told me that during her initial visit. In inspecting that level I discovered that very few things were moved to vacuum around, the window sills were dusty, and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned other than to wipe out the sink. I sent her an email with PICTURES of the water stained faucets in the shower, the soap running down the built-in soap ledge, and the stains on the toilet. Two days later the same cleaning woman returned, wiped down the lower level shower issues and toilet, then used her longer duster to wipe along the higher areas. In so doing, the dust and dead flies were all pushed to the floor. Since she didn't bring a vacuum there was nothing to be done about that--other than for ME to vacuum everything again after she left. She also brought a small steam vacuum, obviously the one the owner had made reference to initially, but it did absolutely nothing to dislodge the grime in the tile.
