The roof was supposed to be replaced with architectural shingles, per our agreement through multiple emails. This was to be a free upgrade at the same cost as the 3-tab singles, this is why I was willing to pay a little bit more to go through their company. Yet he never sent me a revised estimate stating the free upgrade, he would just reply to my emails about the upgrade by stating "Yes, the free upgrade on the shingles is still available." So, when the work was finally done and I come home from work to my surprise I see 3-Tab shingles on my roof. So, when I contact him about the wrong shingles he emails me back and apologizes. He states that his office dropped the ball on the upgrade and that he and another person will look over the invoice and send me a revised copy. So, a couple days later I receive the invoice in the mail and they didn't take off a dime towards their mistake. I email him again and again and he is unwilling to budge. He refuses to put on the correct shingles tells me that the best he can do for me is $1500 off and he'll warranty those shingles for me, and that is above and beyond what he is liable for. Now, because of this mix up I will have to replace the shingles on my garage with another set of 25 year 3-tab shingle instead of the lifetime architectural shingles. So, I continue to email him and state that I either want the roof redone properly or some type of realistic compensation for his companies screw up. So, after that I receive an email from him that he spoke with his lawyer and since he never sent me a revised invoice with the updated shingles on there that I have little to no rights. So, because of his poor business practices I now have no rights and the wrong shingles on my roof. And the fact that he even apologized for the mistake that his company made now means nothing. So by this point I am done talking with him and my girlfriend figures she will give it a try. So when she's talking to him on the phone he tells her that if he was in our shoes he would settle on not take this to court or drag it on and that court would cost us around $9000. He tells her this because he knows that she is pregnant, due in less than a month, and is hoping to scare her into pushing me to settle. This type of practice from a large company is just obnoxious and they are now threatening to put a lien on my home if I do not settle. This is the type of professionalism that this company has. So, if you are looking for any repairs to be made be warned. Make sure that everything they say to you, whether verbal or through email, you get it in writing and with a signature. Otherwise, they will try to back out of it when they screw up and threaten to put a lien on your home. -------------------- Update: After fighting with Century Roofing for about two months and getting a lien put on my house, we came to a settlement. I would have to pay the full price for the repair, but they would reshingle the detached garage to match (just adding a second layer of shingles) and give me the lifetime warranty on the roof/shingles. He also stated that after me paying for the rest of the repair and getting the BBB complaint closed that I would get the lien removed and receive the warranty papers. Well, the lien been removed, but about 2 months after paying I am still waiting on the warranty paper work. The funny thing is, this isn't even the bad part of it. When the job was first done his crew messed up the bathroom exhaust vent (they nailed the vent tube to the decking and then set the vent on top of it, about a 2-3 inch gap that allowed it to exhaust into the attic). 2nd, his crew damaged the wiring/conduit to my electric attic vent/fan (the pulled it out and just stretched the conduit, exposing the wire that was once protected). These two things I caught quick and because of that I got them to repair/replace them. Which leads me to my new find. I was up in the attic this past weekend and noticed that the vent tubing/flue looked weird, so I moved around insulation and inspected. I found that they had pulled up on the flue/tubing enough to separate it about 7 inches, which means that for the past few months I had a potential fire hazard in the attic and carbon monoxide venting into the attic. So, I took pictures and text them to him with information on what I found and a few hours later I still have not received any response from him. So, I give my girlfriend the phone and have her try to get a hold of him. Finally he texts back "I don't see how this is my problem". When I saw this I continued bombarding him with texts about this and in another one of his texts he says "Quit trying to blame someone for something you don't understand." I had bought this house just under 3 years ago and had a safety inspection done on this house (at the time the attic only had about an inch of insulation in it. Because of this I know that the pipe was intact at that time. Also, when I bought the house it had a light mold issue in the attic (due to the bathroom fan/exhaust not having an vent on the roof, it just vented to the attic). When they cleaned the mold and sprayed a mold inhibitor it left a grayish paint on the piping. That paint spray, instead of being flush with the roof line, now goes through the roof about 8 inches. This is how I noticed the problem. If he had original responded back to us saying "I'm sorry and I will be by sometime next week to see if it is something my crew might have done" then I would be fine. But his crew already damaged the two other vents that I had on the roof, and this flue that is all of 8 feet from the others, but his crew in no way had anything to do with this. And he says this before even looking at the damage in person. You find out what type of a company is when there is a mistake. If they A.) Do the repair as promised, or B.) File a lien on your house until you agree to what they want. Or A.) Have enough respect to tell someone you'll look at something that may have been damaged by your crew/staff, or B.) Blame the customer before looking at the damage in person and telling the customer "I don't see how this is my problem." Do not get involved in this company, please do your research on the company that you hire to repair your home. If you would like pictures of these damages please email me. ------------------------ Update Well, he never did anything to correct the damaged vent/flue and I did finally receive the warranty papers from his lawyer (finally received it late November), which I still have if anyone would like to see it. In order for me to get the warranty I would have to sign off that he is no longer responsible for any of the repairs that have been made to the home. I would not be able to sue him for any reason (ie: If I found out that he didn't use a 6 ft ice shield under the shingles, he would not be responsible). I would not be able to talk about any of the work that they have done wrong, with anyone. If I did, the contract would be void and I would no longer receive any type of warranty. So, due to the fact that it has been like pulling teeth to get them to cover anything that they have done incorrectly or damaged (if they would even do anything to correct it) and due to the fact that it took them 3 months to give me warranty papers and also the fact that in order for me to get his warranty I would have to sign his papers saying that he is no longer responsible for his company's work. So, because of these reasons I would not sign the papers. I would rather not have these restrictions on me that have a piece of paper that is likely worth less that the paper they were printed on.
Description of Work: The replaced the entire roof (from the decking up) and replaced the gutters on all 4 sides (hip roof).
