"A craftsman, not a contractor". I provide quality craftsmanship for woodworking products and projects. I have been a woodworker for 20 years and enjoy the work I do. I work with home and business owners in helping make their visions come to life rather than relying on just what's available at the store. Free estimates. With every project, a donation is made to local organizations for the planting of trees to renew our natural resources at a greater rate than we consume them.
I contracted with Doug in Feb, 2018 to remove an existing built in cabinet, replace the floor and crown molding in that space and to reconfigure my fireplace mantel. He told me he was very busy and probably wouldn't get to my project until April. I didn't hear from him so I contacted him and he said he was delayed until May due to a loss of an employee. Again, I didn't hear from him until I initiated the contact in June, July, and August. Each time he had an excuse for the delay. Finally, after a heated conversation in early August, he came on Aug 10 and completed the molding and fireplace. I cancelled the cabinet because of all the delays. I had paid $2000 down on a $3700 quote. By the time he completed the molding and I saw the poor quality, my feeling was that he owed me a refund. He said he "spent much more time on the project" and thought he should be able to keep the full down-payment. I relented merely to get past this situation. I believe he ruined my fireplace mantel and I will now have to hire someone to repair it.

Oh my goodness, what an awful experience. He came to our home on 31 January to give us a quote on a staircase remodel...bannisters and balusters. Seemed very nice, gave us the impression of a local, old-school craftsman. Quote was $6000, and he took our deposit for half, $3000 and immediately cashed our check. For FOUR MONTHS, we heard very little, and only excuse after excuse....a helper quit, the weather was bad, he was sick, you name it. Finally, our patience had run its course, and we demanded a work schedule date, and he agreed to start in June. We were optimistic, thinking that we were getting the work underway. The finished work is terrible, and will require a lot of help from our house painter/handyman. Doug was told that the carpeting needed to be cut back so the posts could sit flush with the flooring. He placed them ON TOP of the existing carpeting. The painting was ridiculously poor. Back during the meeting for the work, he asked for a can of the trim paint so he knew which color to pick up from the paint store. What he did instead was use the 4-year old paint in the can that we gave him! No primering or sanding, and deep ugly brush strokes because the old paint was too thick to use. One post was barely covered, and the underlying wood is visible. One post was measured improperly, leaving a half-inch gap between the existing house trim, to which he just gooped a lot of caulk, and it looks ridiculous. Two parallel bannisters were cut and installed with different slopes and do not match. The screws and nails used were just quickly covered with caulk, and stick out very noticeably. The wood gouges in the existing underlying wood were not filled, and are an eye sore. Two metal balusters are bowed instead of vertically straight. These concerns were raised to Doug at the end of the project, and all he did was agree and knock off $200 from the total. This was a mess from the start, and now we’re left with hiring people to fix all of the above to make it look presentable in our home.
