Took the item in on Thursday, Aug 28, 2008. I explained the problem was that the CD player was not reading the CDs correctly and would either play a track or two then quit or sometimes it would not play at all. The disc would spin for a while then just quit. The owner of the shop told me he normally only works on TVs but would do this type of repair. I asked when it would be ready and he said he would look at it on Saturday or Monday. I paid $20 for him to check it out with the understanding that he would call me prior to running the charges up above the original $20.00. I would then have the option to agree or take the unit back without further repairs or charges. I would not get the deposit back. These terms were fine with me. The following Tuesday I called him because I had not heard from him. He had not looked at it yet. I called again a few days later and he said he was about to check it out. Finally, on Thursday, September 11, 2008, I called and he said he was just finishing the job. He had not called me to tell how much extra the repair would cost (as agreed). I picked it up that day and had to pay an additional $40.00 to get it. The total bill of $60.00. That was more than I had planned to pay for the work. The shop owner's excuse for both the cost and the time delay was that normally he only works on TVs. That did not keep him from accepting the job. This is being submitted almost one month after picking up the unit and so far it is still working without problems.
