The Monday evening storms brought down over 40 trees on my property. These were large, old, hardwoods. 8 had been torn up by the roots with root balls 15-20 feet in the air. Our driveway was completely blocked. It looked like a jungle and to get through required climbing over, under, and around trees and craters. This was no ordinary storm. James - known as Junior - came with a friend that night. For 2 1/2 hours they chain sawed their way up the drive while my husband and I threw logs as fast as they were cutting. Most of this was done in the dark with the light of truck headlamps. A path was cleared and we could get one vehicle out.. Junior returned the next day with bigger equipment and more men. He worked hard, carefully and cheerfully from dawn until dusk. This went on for a total of 3 1/2 days. Seriously - about 12 hours a day. He stopped occasionally to help several of my neighbors who had been unable to secure help yet and were blocked in. He is one of the "good guys" Not only did he get the trees, he cut up pieces for firewood, stacked it in various spots around the yard, raked and hauled away all the brush and leaves. He asked for payment only after the job was done. He knew what he was doing and did not take advantage of the emergency situation.
