We had our septic tank pumped. Horrible experience.
Description of Work: I called the company on Friday to set up a service call to have our septic tank pumped. I told him that we just moved into our house in April 2012 and we do not know if it has ever been pumped or even where it is. He quoted me a price and said they'd be out that day. Two gentleman came out a couple of hours later and while one seemed nice the other was truly a "cranky old man". They asked me the same questions the person on the phone asked and seemed annoyed that I didn't know where the tank was. They poked around for about 5 minutes before deciding to call the health department to get a drawing of the property. This was at 10:30 AM and I did not hear back from them the rest of the day. They did call Saturday morning to tell me they found the drawing and would be out Monday morning to drain the tank. They called me on Monday and I let them know my husband would be home when they got there. These two men somehow picked the lock on our fence for the backyard and just went out there without even knocking on the door. My husband went out there and asked a couple of questions and the one gentleman gave him serious attitude about his questions. After they dug into the ground they said they did not have a tool to open the top so they would be back either later that afternoon or Tuesday morning. He also told my husband it would cost $50 more than what we were originally quoted. I had to call the office and the person in the office is pretty sure he told me "this price" which is $20 more than the orignal quote but $30 less than the quote the technician gave us. I decided to just let that one go and let them pump the tank and never use them again. Also, their website states they accept VISA, Mastercard and American Express. When I asked the office about it the person who answered the phone put me on "hold" and asked the owner "We have a website?". Completely ridiculous but No they do not accept credit cards. The technicians returned Tuesday AM to pump the tank. They pulled the lid off and broke part of it. They pumped the tank for a little bit and the "nice" technician had already told my husband that the tank wasn't completely empty when they brought it to the house. The "cranky" technician told my husband later that they had to go empty the truck and if we wanted him to come back to finish pumping it was going to cost us more money. My husband put a stop to that immediately. It is not our fault you did not bring the proper equipment with you. The guy backed off fairly quick and they returned later and finished pumping the tank. However, as they were finished rainwater came rushing into the tank. The technicians assessment: I dont' know what's going on but that's not normal. They offered no soultions and said they were done. They are pretty sure it's the "dbox" but have no idea how to fix it. Last I checked this was a septic company and according to their website they offer services to fix our issue. But apparently their website is just full of lies. This has been a horrible experience and NOBODY should EVER use this company. We are currently looking for a new company to find out what is happening with our Septic Tank since Smitty's has no idea what they are doing. I cannot caution you enough DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

I have been working with this company for 4 years now which started with a pump replacement for the septic field. I have to call them yearly because of a pump problem. One year it was because a float was stuck because it wasn't properly secured to not get caught on other wires. They had to replace the original replacement and forgot to plug it in afterwards causing another trip out. I just called again and it has been less than a year that they replaced a pump. They are now claiming they never use that type of pump and it is fried to a crisp. No one else has serviced this septic pump and I haven't called anyone else out as everything is happening in a year or less time window. They have not come out in the past when it had snowed and are not punctual nor professional when they do. Today I found out that the pump can be purchased for $150.00 wholesale but was charged $900.00 and many service calls to correct their installation problems. This is a long standing problem with the company and I will be choosing someone else.
Description of Work: Today was the day I found out the septic pump they installed less than a year ago was burnt and they are claiming they don't use that type of pump. The worker sent out today first claimed the pump was working when it was a small pump we have to discharge the water in the tank. Calls to the owner are met with hostility and an attitude of to heck with the customer.
