Description of Work: He was hired to remodel a bathroom. He started demo in august '14. Worked on it for about a week or so then quit showing up. At thanksgiving it still wasn't done. Had to hire another contractor to finish bathroom, in which they had to pull everything out and start over. This man is NOT a legitimate contractor. He talks a good talk, but when it comes down to the job, he doesn't even know how to smooth caulk, or square anything up. He is a fraud. He has numerous court cases for taking people's money and not doing the job....one he is being sued for $75k. DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO THIS THIEF IN CONTRACTOR CLOTHING!
He never finished anything. We gave him $50,000.00 down. $23,000.00 to go to elevation crew right away. He only paid them half (12,000). We then (per our contract) gave him another $15,000 on the 3rd week. He missed at least 1 day per week and some days they only worked 4 or 5 hours. It was a six week job that soon turned into 11 weeks with NOTHING finished. We started on August 12th and he never showed up again after October 29th, After I repeatedly called him, he finally called me stating his ringer on his phone didn't work. I told him that's not the way to run a business. He agreed to call us a few days later to set up a meeting to discuss what still needed to be done and account for money already spent. He never called. He emailed me saying I didn't need to send him nasty emails and messages. I told him I never used any profanity, or threats, I simply asked what was going on and why wasn't he contacting us. At one point during a phone conversation when I asked him if he had the money and materials to finish the job, I heard silence on the other end. One of his workers got on and said he was just to stressed to talk. Really? I'm living in a camper, it's 30 degrees outside and he's stressed. We have 3 entrances to our home and not one of them had steps going in. We had to use a ladder to get in one area through the garage. When he left the job the beams and cribbing were still under the house. We had to beg the sub contractor to remove the beams just so we could finish the block work to close it up. He didn't want to because he hadn't been paid. A to Z also had boards propped up underneath the house where a main support was supposed to be. Most of the supplies were here when it came to lumber and blocks, but we spent an additional $3500 Plus to get the rest of the block work and plumbing done. We have no floor in the garage due to the cold, it cannot be poured right now. That will also cost us. The garage opening is closed up with framing and a blue tarp just to keep the cold out. We have no furnace in the house right now. He didn't pay them for taking it out before the lift. We rushed to get as much done as possible just so we could be in by Christmas. We heat with electric heater until we can get the furnace in. All the flood vents we were required to put in the foundation were just set in place not mounted properly at all. 1 day before he stopped coming I found out he lied about being licensed. He is not licensed for anything that I am aware of. I asked him to put his contractors license number down on the paper work for the vents that have to go to FEMA and he told me he didn't have one, because he's not required to in the state of Indiana. He states here on Angie's list that he is licensed and he told us he was licensed. I actually caught him in several lies. He told me he was short of money because his daughter (who he brought on site to work) is a heroin addict and she stole some money from him.He got away with a lot of our money and now we are stuck. We haven't heard from him since the tuesday before Thanksgiving. We are still on the hook for the $11,000 owing to the house raiser that he didn't pay. The bill for the HVAC company that took the h&c system out and many other small expenses. I wouldn't hire him to build a dog house!
Description of Work: He was supposed to be the general contractor for our house elevation. We have flooded twice in 10 years so the county required us to raise our home 2 feet above the base flood elevation level. That meant just a little over 5 ft in total at our expense. FEMA would pay up to $30,000 if done by a licensed contractor. Mike Brown talks a big game. He hired the sub contractor to do the actual raising of the home, he and his full crew were supposed to build foundation, back deck, entrance into garage, rerun plumbing, heating & cooling, pour garage floor, reinstall garage doors close everything back up.
