LG&E replaced my gas line. Had to have a contractor come out and re light the furnace, stove and water heater. They found a leak in the house. I called every 24 hour plumber I could find in Louisville. Then I tried Becht/Givens. I received a follow up call in under 30 minutes. Anthony Owen was very patient with me, while I was panicked. He explained pricing from the simplest problem, to replacing the whole thing. He came out, found it to be a very simple issue, fixed it, re lit the water heater. All of this ....in less than 2 hours. I will always use these guys from here on out. Didn't try to stick me with unnecessary crap. Very respectful. And ...oh yeah....less than 100 bucks. Thank you.

Mike came out and looked at my old HVAC system. I knew I needed a new unit. I have heard several positive comments about Becht-Givens so I asked for a higher quality Lennox System. I am very satisfied with the Price, installation and maintenance of my new Lennox system- I can really feel the difference- I also had them install UV light that kills virus and stops Mold. Poorly. The serviceman tested the outside unit and informed my wife that a new outside unit would be needed at a cost of $4000 to $5000. We got a second opinion and the capacitor was replaced for $30. It is running beautifully now. We called and demanded a refund of the $99 fee they charged us. They came out again and told us the same thing and that no refund was due. This was despite the fact that the unit was running without any problems! No explanation was given for why they did not detect the $30 problem nor why the now working air conditioner needed to be replaced. I think the answer is obvious.

The technicians are always very professional, polite, knowledgeable and usually arrive when promised. On the few occasions they have been delayed, I have been kept informed of the status. Workmanship has always been excellent.

They're under new management and I don't know a lot about the new company. They still have the same office-force. As far as I can see, they do okay. They came out and did what they said they were going to. They seem to be alright, but they got rid of all the old people that used to work for them. I think they should do what they should do. It looks like they do it thoroughly. I called and talked to somebody, of course the gal at the desk knows me since she's been calling me for so many years. I changed my contract a little bit, but I could not get it typed out in a letter. I called and asked for that, but couldn't get it. I couldn't understand the way that it was written and I called and she said that it was all on the sheet that they fill out and give me. I thought I understood what she said, and thought about it later that I didn't know what in the heck she's talking about. I called the office again and did not get her. I told them that I would like to have it written out, typed out, that I have so many more cleanings of the furnace and so many more cleaning of the air conditioning, and I had something added on the furnace and it changed the contract. I wanted to know exactly what I can pick up and read and she just wrote it out on one of their billings. I couldn't read it, I couldn't understand it. We went over it and now that I go back over it, I don't understand it. So, I don't really know what's going on. I didn't pursue it because if I asked where my letter was, she would just say that it was on the bill. I didn't follow up and I don't know exactly what message was relayed to her. If they're going to be a little early they'll call you. If they're going to be a little bit late, they'll call you. I just want to know where I stand with them and have it clarified.

Eric H. was prompt and courteous. He fixed the immediate issue we were having and gave us accurate information on the state of our furnace.
Description of Work: I have a warranty on my furnace; however, the warranty company refused to service it on New Year's Eve. Despite having no heat, the warranty company advised we would have to wait until January 3 for service. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was advised they would call me right back. Needless to say, I have not heard from the supervisor to date. Eric H. at Becht/Givens was prompt and courteous. He was able to clear the fault/error message and advised me of issues with my heat exchanger and the incorrect installation of condensation pipes. Today, as a result of another call to the warranty company two days ago, the warranty company sent out a technician who confirmed what Eric H. had advised - I need a new heat exchanger and the piping is incorrect which ultimately lead to the issues with the heat exchanger. At this time, the warranty company technician has recommended that they replace the furnace because the costly repair of the heat exchanger ($3000+) vs replacing the furnace (approximately $4500+). He commented the installation was poorly done and has resulted in the lengthy service history. Over the almost 10 years I have dealt with the warranty company, they have never had same day service. Additionally, one year into the warranty period, we were advised that the problems we were experiencing with our top of the line furnace (96% efficiency) were a result of incorrect initial installation by the warranty company. Over the years, they have reworked the condensation piping several times - including the time the pipes sheared off the side of the furnace due to excessive vibration from incorrect installation. I would have quit using the warranty company years ago if it wasn't for the warranty and the costly nature of the repairs necessitated by the incorrect installation. Needless to say, I will require the warranty company to honor the warranty and replace the furnace and/or do the costly repair. However, in the future, I will definitely rely on Becht/Givens for my HVAC needs.

I called because my furnace quit working. They came late afternoon and stayed until 7:30 that night trying to get it working. It was very cold outside. They could not get it fixed. Their residential sales consultant, Mike Hayden, came by my house Fri. evening to bring me 2 space heaters. We discussed options since my furnace had to be replaced. I feel he was very fair with me on the price. The furnace was installed 3 days later on a Monday -- even though there was a snow storm which made it hard for them to get to my house. Jeff and Tim were wonderful installers... professional, steady workers and pleasant. i still can't believe they drove thru a snow storm to be sure I had heat. Great, caring company with great people and fair pricing!!!

I was satisfied with them. It was so new that they didn't know how to work on it. They finally got the thermometers working. I am satisfied with it now. I'd use them again. It cost $99 just to have them come out and look at it. My power bill has gone up and it's supposedly energy efficient.

This followed our previous experiences with them in terms of lack of communication and having no regard for scheduled "window" time for service. We had an appointment for 10-12 a.m. at my mother's, which is about 15 min. from where we live. At 9:10 we got a call that they were on their way. My wife told the duspatcher that we could be there in 20 min. The dispatcher said no, they didn't want the technician to wait, that they would send him to next appointment, then send someone to us. When I had not heard anything by about 11:30, I called them to check on the status and told them I could not stay past 2:15. I was told that the dispatcher was out and would call when she returned. At 1:20 I got a call saying they could come now. They did not want the technician to wait a few minutes, but had no concern at all for my time! I told her that there was no way it would work and that we had clearly told them of our time constraints when making the appointment. This was after 3-4 similar experiences, the worst of which was when we had another 10-12 window and we waited there until 5:00 without a technician showing up and no contact from them other than when we called about 2:00 and were told the technician had problems at the previous job and was running late. We have continued to use them in the past, because the actual service by their technicians has been excellent. The "A" quality rating is the result of these previous experiences. We do not plan to renew with them after our current service agreement is over.

I have a 5 year prepaid service agreement with Becht/Givens Service Experts which provides inspections and cleanings of the furnace and central air. Each are performed once a year. I had the furnace done in August 2013. I turned it on for the first time on October 20, 2013 and it failed to work. A tech came out the next day and troubleshot the problem as a bad circuit board. He charged me $84 for the service call. I argued that I shouldn't pay because the furnace was given a clean bill of health in August and hadn't been used. The circuit board didn't fix the problem and it turned out to be a bad gas valve which cost an additional $456.00 for parts and labor. My position is that I should not have been charged a service call because it was linked to an improper inspection and test of the system in August and should have been considered a "call back". Furthermore, fees for service calls and associated diagnostics should be waived as long as the homeowner has them perform the repair.

beneath the furnace to catch the water is the drain got plugged. They charged me $199 just to blow out the plugged drain pipe. They have also refused to pay for the damage caused by the improperly installed collection pan. This company sold and installed the system for me a few years earlier. They admit that the original installer chose not to properly install a new pan and for his convince left the old one in place. The old one was far to small to work properly. The company has put in a shut-off valve to prevent future problems but refuse to compensate me for the damages caused by their negligence.
Description of Work: I called the company to do a spring service on the second floor HVAC and also asked to have the heat exchanger tested for any cracks or problems. I thought I was getting an air condition check plus a review of the heat exchanger. Less than a month after the service we had leaking water coming through our master bedroom ceiling. The actual service visit and most prior visits were okay. However, getting an appointment last summer was a nightmare. Apparently whatever automated system they use to remind customers to schedule appointments does not work, and they do not seem to bother calling out manually -- before Service Experts bought them out, Becht-Givens, used to call in person until they reached us -- we have been customers for 8 years. Ever since the buy out, Service Experts seem much less accommodating. When I called in the early part of July 2012, they told me the first appointment would be mid-September! I told them that service was overdue and my service agreement was expiring, but none of that seemed to matter much. They strung me along with some talk of a waiting list, but they never called me with updates. I always had to call them, and it was almost September before they finally "worked us in." At the time, I left a rather insistent voice message for the branch manager to call me and refused to renew my service agreement until I heard from him. NOTHING. No call. I have had no service agreement coverage since last summer. I called again a week ago, and actually got the branch manager, Rich Walker, to call me back. He claimed he never received my voice message in August, and he was not at all apologetic. He showed no concern about my complaints; he said that "scheduling appointments 6 to 8 weeks in advance is normal", and he really did not seem too interested in keeping my business. About all he seemed willing to do was schedule an appointment, and only a week away to boot (today). I ultimately canceled that appointment and called Aire Serv instead -- they made an appointment for the NEXT DAY! Their Angie's list customers seem far more satisfied. Their annual service agreement costs about 10% more, but so far it seems worth it (the Aire Serv guy is here now - will review them later). I only stayed with Service Experts all this time because we bought our Lennox system from them in 2008, and we still have 5 years left on the parts warranty. Fortunately, Aire Serv can handle any manufacturer's warranty service we might need. Actually, the more I think about it, my problems with Service Experts dates back before the buy out -- when we bought our Lennox system from Becht-Givens, they installed the wrong thermostat (non-heat pump version) and caused our emergency heat to run most of the winter before they caught the error and replaced the thermostat. We were pretty upset when at first our new system was as costly to run as the 25 year old system that it replaced. So long to Service Experts. Hello, Aire Serv!

I have had nothing but good, professional service in the past from Service Experts. The techs were all friendly and knowledgeable, and very willing to share info about what they were doing, helpful tips on furnace and AC maintenance, and on selecting a new furnace. This past summer I had repairs done on my AC unit at my former home, one on a Saturday and another the following day, and the service was punctual and friendly. This most recent call, however, resulted in my furnace being shut down (condemned) due to holes in the heat exchanger. The tech showed me the damage on his scope (tho I really couldn't detect anything) and then, when he turned on the furnace for the final check, showed me the orange-yellow flames right at the front of the furnace area. He turned off the electricity and gas service and said he had done his job. I could only agree, and I was to leave town soon and couldn't get another opinion right away. Today I had a couple of A-rated Angie's List companies come and take a look. The first man said that the furnace is OK, certainly for this heating season, and promptly turned it back on. The second, who came 90 minutes later, agreed that the furnace looks fine and said to go ahead and use it until I can arrange a replacement. Both men were here to check out the HVAC and give estimates to replace the systems, but neither charged anything. A man from Service Experts came out on the day following the furnace's shut-down, prepared an estimate, then said that I could save $1500 if I agreed to replace the furnace thru him thanks to a limited-time offer (end of October) from his parent company and Costco. That was the only pressure I felt from him; he had been professional throughout his visit and exam. I was very disappointed in the result from Service Experts, but I guess I was disappointed specifically in the judgement of the two techs who condemned my furnace. I will not do business with them again, however, because my trust in the company is gone. My overall experience with them has been great, as noted earlier, but this last incident has ended the relationship.
Description of Work: I called Service Experts, based in Jeffersonville, IN, to come and check out the furnace in the home I purchased earlier this year. I used an online coupon to lower the usual cleaning / checking activity from $129 to $69. I knew the furnace was old (almost 20 years) and probably not well-maintained, and I wanted to make sure it was safe to use while I waited for replacement. I told the firm that I wanted to get an estimate for replacement as well. The two service techs (one appeared to be in training) arrived on time, tho I had had to call the company to make sure they were coming as I had gotten no confirmation following my online appointment.

My old A/C compressor was humming LOUDLY. The tech came out the day I called and fixed it. He also said the fix was so simple that it could really be considered a maintenance visit. So for about the same amount of money I got another maintenance visit for my central heating system in the fall. Both techs were very professional, and pleasant.

Called Service Experts late Thursday evening to report our furnace was not working properly. They scheduled an appt. for the next day between 4-6pm. Specifically asked them to call my cell, since I would be at work and would need to come home to meet them. Arrived home around 5:30 and found that they left a note on my door & message on my phone that they were coming @ 3:16pm. Called company and explained what had happened, they said tech would come by after he finished other calls. He did come by and after an hour or so of checking the furnace found that the circuit board was burnt causing a lack of a connection. Problem was the company did not carry this board and he would have to wait until Monday to call the Manufacture to get a new one. On Monday contacted company to check status of circuit board, they stated tech would come in the late afternoon to install. Tech came around 3pm, took five minutes and the board and heat were back on. My complaint is that if they had called me on my cell, I could have been home and met the tech and we would have probablly had a chance for him to go pick up the board from the manufacturer before they closed on Friday and we would have had heat. Instead we had to go buy space heaters, the temp in the house was below 50 degrees and three days delayed our attempts to get ready for our winter vacation. I have used this company for my yearly AC/Heating maintenance, but things seem to break down more with having their service. I also had a fan installed by them a few years ago in the attic ceiling and it lasted only a year. I have called and told their techs repeated each time they come for regular maintenance that I would like to have it looked at or repaired. They always say they will put it in the notes and have someone call me. It has yet to happen in 3 years now. Definitely would not recommend anymore with the let downs of the past few years!!
Description of Work: Service experts came out and inspected the furnace that was not working. Found circuit board had a burnt connection. 3 days later installed a new one for a little more than $600.

Contract was written for one brand of furnace and AC. When installers came at the end of the week they found that they could not install that brand into the location and had to install a cheaper brand. Instead of providing a reduced price for the unit, they threw in a fancy filter and free service contract which kept the price the same. Because we were desperate for AC and had done business with this company for years, we agreed to the new contract. The company was responsive to my complaints, but did not reduce the price of the unit. The new unit works well but the proof will be its performance several years from now. On the bright side. We were very pleased with the installers. They were professional and friendly. They worked all day in order to have the AC functioning by that evening.

The work was professionally done by men who clearly knew what they were doing. The price was a little more than I expected, but the work was well done.
Description of Work: I had them move my two outside A/C units to the other side of the house. They had to run new lines from the second floor to the basement and then out to the side.
