We asked for a quote to have the wallpaper and old countertop bar taken down, we also pointed out some other old wall attached things like telephone outlets and cabinets that we wanted removed. These things were part of the quote. The start date was to be December 7th and there was a promise that it would "absolutley, positively be done" by December 20th, when we were hosting a dinner party. After two calls from the contractor to postpone that start date, the work began on the 10th. Another promise that it would be done on time. Things that went wrong were: The countertop was never removed, and in order to get the countertop off the wall for painting, my husband and I removed it. There was damage to the wall, and again, we did the work to fix it. There were other delays such as that. The one day that put me completely over the top was the day that I came home from work to find the contractor had gotten there 3 hours late, and would be staying through my supper hour to work. A few minutes after arriving home, the contractor asked me to borrow a phonebook. Thinking that he needed to call another client, or maybe a helper, I gave him the phonebook. He proceeded to call 7 area grocery stores asking for a specific cut of meat and proceeding to tell each butcher that they were inept and didn't really know meat. I was livid, and asked why he needed to make the call now. He said that he needed to catch them before they went home for the day!! Finally, each and every day when he DID arrive to work, the mess he left was awful. I had to clean and sweep everyday after he left, and also the quality of the work was horrible. Finally, on Decemebr 31st, before the job was complete, my husband paid the contractor in full, and then fired him and told him to never come back. I regret the full payment, but my husband said he was afraid that the guy was so unstable that he may somehow do harm if we did not make full payment. PLEASE don't ever give this guy any business!!
