+ -1 moreThe service technician called me 40 minutes in advance to let me know when he would be arriving. He arrived at the time he said he would. He was very professional when he introduced himself and explained what he would be doing. I had a question about my thermostat and he was more than helpful. Even though the thermostat wasn't part of the tune up, he provided me with information that was very helpful. He didn't rush through the tune up, instead he took his time to thoroughly look at the unit and then explain to me my options. I will definitely call William's again.

+ -1 moreBecause the quote was so high, we decided to get a second opinion. The second company said a 10-year-old furnace shouldn't be going out and the $7,300 price was way off base. The second company quote the job at $1,287 and when we got the bill, we noticed the company didn't charge us as much for parts and the total cost of the job was $857. I believe Williams Comfort Air was taking advantage of an older couple and overcharging for a job that ended up costing us over $6,000 less than what Williams Comfort Air quoted us. The serviceman for Williams Comfort Air was very nice but we feel the quote was way too high, especially after we got a second opinion.
Description of Work: We had a coupon for a tune-up and the company came out to examine the furnace and air conditioner. He gave us a price of $7,397. The company sent a salesman and quoted a new furnace and AC and the quote was $11,000. The company offered a discount bringing the quote to about $9,000.

+ 0 moreTwo men came to install a new gas furnace and remove the old one. They were careful about covering the floors. Brad S. did the inside work and a younger man worked outside to cut through the brick or concrete block to install two plastic pipes. The work seemed to go as planned for Brad inside the house, but outside it started to rain. It must have been frustrating to work in the rain and at one point, the guy yelled a strong expletive that my neighbors and I could hear. He wore covers over his shoes in the house, but they were the same ones he wore outside in the rain (so what's the point of using them?), making several trips in and out of the house, the tarps on the floor shifted and the floors go dirty anyway. In general I would say the younger (outside) guy was not too careful. (I can't remember his name.) In financing the furnace I was given a Wells Fargo credit card. I discovered when I received the card that the salesman misspelled my name when he phoned-in my information. I had to send proof of my identity to Wells Fargo to have it corrected so it wouldn't affect my credit report. The salesman mentioned that since my mom referred Williams Comfort Air to me, she would receive a referral check from them. I has happy he mentioned the program. Two months later, however, she still hadn't received it and I had to call and remind them. I was assured this week that they will get it in the mail to her.

+ -1 moreThe day that the Freon was added, I did not notice any difference in cooling. The system could not cool below 76 degrees, same as usual. I kept my word and contacted another vendor. I asked about the cost of replacing Freon. Their answer was 80.00 for the call and 75.00 per pound for the Freon. Williams never told me how many pounds they put in my unit. I called the serviceman directly and asked him, his response was two pounds. I then called the office to ask how they justified 366.00 for a product that should be 150.00? His response was that the additive was not free. The serviceman had shown both items as a combined cost of 366.00. This company is focused on hidden costs and I would never call them again. I did call the office and demand that the service contract price be refunded and it was. However, my A/C unit has now stopped working completely, and I blame the so called "additive". I have been told by other A/C services that they do not like this additive, that it mixes with the air and creates a sticky, hardener that can clog the unit. Whatever happened, Williams has left me without air conditioning and a very bad taste in my mouth. I think they should refund the entire charge, another 366.00. I was not an Angie's list subscriber, I joined strictly to find some good service providers for my new home, in an area which I am unfamiliar. To date, I am not impressed with your screening.
Description of Work: One month in this home, called for a check up using Angies list for a referral. I was mainly concerned that the A/C unit needed the insulation on the outside lines replaced. The serviceman told me that they do not carry line insulation on their trucks, if he has to run to Menards for materials, there would be an additional 119.00 cost plus parts. He further explained that my 27 year old unit needed Freon. The cost of Freon was quoted at 366.00. He explained that they charge for Freon by the "bracket" , still not sure what a bracket is, I assumed that if the Freon were over a pound, it would be in a 2 pound bracket. He began selling me on a I year, 2 visit service plan for 179.00. He said that if I signed up for the service plan today, then he could go get the insulation and install it for free. I bulked at the cost of freon, he explained that the type of Freon on my unit was very expensive because it is being phased out for environmental reasons. He then told me that my system was performing at 21 when it should be 39, implying that the system could not work efficiently without more Freon but it may leak out again if they do not find the source of the leak. Leak detection was about 230.00 but it is detection only, not the cost of repairing the leak. I approved the Freon replacement at 366.00 but told him that I would be checking that cost with another vendor. I also bought the service plan for 179.00. After putting in the Freon, the serviceman told me that he went ahead and put in an additive that rejuvenates older units. This additive is usually 180 dollars but he included it at no charge, just to help me out.

+ -1 moreThe provider refused to let me call in to schedule an A/C repair since my partner technically owns the house. I live here 24/7, too, and I got the brush-off. He has to call them to officially set up the appointment and THEN officially put my name on the "list." It's insulting.

+ -1 moreWe bought the $695 HVAC cleaning on Angie's List, then added in another system for $495 (our new home has a separate system for upstairs and downstairs). They were very professional, did a thorough job, and our new home smells much better. Both my husband and I have allergies, and they were acting up in the home, but not anymore. The only issue we had was that dispatch called us at 8:15 to tell us someone was on their way, but then we got a call from the truck at 9:15 saying they were just leaving after a meeting ran long. I'd have preferred they didn't call until 9:15 so I could run some errands that morning, they didn't arrive until 9:45, plenty of time for me to get several things done if I'd known it would take an hour and a half for them to get there.

+ -1 moreMy 17 year old Janitrol AC unit finally went out. It had broken down a few years ago as well so I knew fixing it would only prolong the inevitable. Not only was Williams able to come out quickly to diagnose the issue, they were also able to get a rep out later that day to give me pricing and walk through my options. The unit was installed the very next day. The two techs were on time, called before they arrived, and did a great job cleaning up. They also got stuck in a pretty heavy rain storm and continued to go about their business wrapping things up and making sure the system worked. I also had a new programmable Wi-Fi thermostat installed. The entire process took about five hours from start to finish. I had a 14-seer Carrier unit installed and am looking forward to many years of trouble-free use and not worrying about whether or not it will work at the start of every summer. I would recommend Williams Comfort Air to others.

Williams Comfort & Air did an excellent job explaining the inner workings of a 4 ton air conditioner along with any needed repair work that comes with replacing a unit. I would recommend their service to anyone.

+ -1 moreThey're actually scheduled to come back on Saturday. We have a payment plan. They do the heating and the cooling and they do the filters when they're supposed to. We have a service agreement. We've been using them for probably eight or nine years. They're very punctual. They do good service. They're very thorough. We've changed our thermostat and our heating and cooling and it has done wonders for our bills as far as the heating and cooling. They look everything over. We haven't had any problems. They explain everything very well. I like the fact they give you coupons so you can cut a little more off the bill when you have to pay something so that's fine.

+ 0 moreWe had their Mr. Plumber crew scheduled for the same day to have our hot water heater replaced. We were also due for our semi-annual cooling system check, and they called the morning of the water heater change to ask if we wanted to have that crew come do their maintenance at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised that they were looking out for us - helping to prevent 2 separate appointments and instead bundling it so that both crews could work at the same time (kudos to the scheduling folks to catch that one!). The cooling crew was, as always, professional and courteous. They took the time to explain the status of the system. I've always felt comfortable and impressed with their crews, even though I don't think we've had the same crew twice.

We have a very narrow stairway to get into the basement and they tried to be very careful not to bang up the walls and when they did scratch the walls, they pointed it out to us and offered to fix it. We were very pleased with the service people and things.

They always remind you when that needs to be done. They're good at showing up on time and taking care of any problems that may arise.
