On 2/10/2015 my wife called The Villa to schedule the massage but was told the service was no longer available unless she registered as an overnight guest, which was not originally a requirement. She told the manager she did not want to stay overnight and asked him to credit the $105 back to her credit card. After six phone calls and delays, the manager said he could validate the gift card for purchasing The Villa's merchandise but the owner is the only person who could authorize the crediting the value of the card. Furthermore, the manager said the owner is rarely there and is difficult to contact but that he would call back. My last conversation with the manager was 2/20/2015. Because The Villa changed the conditions by which the service was to be provided and did so after the card was purchased, but while it was still valid, I want The Villa to do the right thing and credit my charge card for the amount of the gift card.
Description of Work: I purchased a gift card for a Swedish massage for my wife which is good for one year and valued at $105.

One week after I booked the appointment I called the establishment to cancel. Whoever took the cancellation did not cancel the appointment and they charged me for the appointment anyway. I called the establishment and was told they have no record of me cancelling the appointment and was told they called me the day before to remind me of the appointment. I did not receive a reminder phone call. They are refusing to refund my money.
Description of Work: I scheduled a series of haircuts for every six months for the next two years.

I really enjoy The Villa Inn its calm, the staff is professinal they are friendly the services I have had done there have always been very good they are close to downtown which in convenient. Plus it is in a beautiful old home on the near north side. For haircuts I always use Llai and it is always great. For massages I have had several people and have always been pleased.

Manis/pedis with my family before my sisters wedding. The Villa was able to accommodate all seven of us. It was a fun and relaxing experience. My nail technician (jessica) was awesome. She was very professional and friendly, and she did an amazing job on my nails- at five days out, I still do not have any chips. She took the time to make sure that they looked perfect and even offered to let me come back if my nails chipped/smudged before the wedding. I definitely had the best nail technician there and would love to go back to her again!

I've received facials from The Villa 3 or 4 times. Each time I saw a different person. I have found each experience to be different. The first was the best in terms of the way my skin reacted to the treatment. I had a friend, who I hadn't seen in a few years, tell me afterwards that my skin was absolutely glowing. The woman who did my facial was very nice and we had great conversation. My other experiences were never quite as good, but still positive. I found that when I wanted to use the time as quiet and relaxing, the mood reflected that. On my most recent trip, I was suffereing a bad acne break out and was going to an event that week. I typically try and schedule a facial at least 3 days out from an event. Because of a time crunch, I got the facial the day before. I refused any chemicals that I thought would make my skin less than ideal the next day. My acne looked much much better and I was very happy with the results.

The spa was really good. The person did a wonderful job and thought that she was very nice. My wife had asked for a hard massage. She said that it was almost like he either was afraid to give a hard massage or couldn't give a hard massage. We spent a night there and it wasn't bad for a nice little get away. It was quiet and close. The restaurant was very nice; the dinner and breakfast were very good. The staff was nice and friendly. They probably need to work on paying attention to their customers. It has only about four or six rooms. We came back like an hour later and they asked us to check in again. They totally forgot about us. It wasn't a big issue, other than that it was pretty good.

The spa pedicure was very nice, relaxing, and the technician did a very good job. The atmosphere of the salon was very nice. After my pedicure, I asked to see some facial cleansers and moisturizers, and was shown some attractive products; however, since I had not had a facial, I really had to rely on what the technician told me. The products were extremely expensive--about $100 for a small jar of moisturizer and also for a small jar of facial cleanser. If I had understood exactly what I was buying, I would never have spent that much for products I had not tried. I do not like the moisturizer, it is sticky; the cleanser is very nice, but does not remove all eye makeup.

I have also had massages in the salon. Recently my husband took me there to stay in the Inn and have dinner which was very nice for an old historic home. Food has gotten better since previous visits. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during our stay which was a weeknight.

My husband was looking for a nice date evening that was a little unique, relaxing, but also fun. Upon arriving to the Villa Inn, I was surprised when I walked through the doors to see I had arrived at not only a spa, but also a restaurant. My husband had arranged for a full hour couples massage with dinner afterwards. Immediately we were greeted by friendly staff. When we arrived to our room downstairs, we were offered water (we declined), and left to change. This was the first massage he had received, so he was unsure of what to expect. The atmosphere in the room was extremely relaxing, and the massage tables very comfortable. When our massage therapists entered the room, they dimmed the lights and music played. They were very professional, spoke in calm soothing voices, and delivered an amazing massage. They focused on areas we wanted more attention to, and gave me (and him) the best massages we'd ever had. When they left for us to change, when we opened the door they were awaiting us with cold glasses of water to enjoy. We immediately were seated for dinner and enjoyed an amazing dinner for two at their restaurant. We had such a great experience, we are planning on going back there again after the holidays.

I am now a huge fan of no chip manicures. Everything they say about the no chip nails are true. I was so satisfied with their service I made an appointment so the day before my son’s wedding a few family members and myself were to have facials, brunch, and pedicures. It was very relaxing and very accommodating to our needs and timing. We did not feel rushed. It was a lovely experience. My out of town relatives were very comfortable and impressed. The service was excellent. It was everything I wanted them it to be and brunch was delicious. I would do it again in a heartbeat. They made everything very special, and I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I have had a no chip manicure, which lasted for 4 weeks and they also provided services for family members and myself the day before my son's wedding.

Jeff arrived exactly at the appointed time, introduced himself and asked me to follow him to the massage room. He explained what he was going to do and ask if I had any preferences, sore areas or information I thought he might need to know. He left and allowed me to get comfortable on his table. We spoke in general about massage as he started with my neck and shoulders, what I considered my most troubled area. He worked on my shoulders, neck, head and face, kneading all of the hard knots as the once tensed muscles turned to butter. As he moved his knuckles up both sides of my spine from my hips to my neck the intense pressure that I previously felt melted. A deep tissue massage can be rough because he is stripping the muscles of the knots and tension but he talked and breathed with me through the pain and release after was worth it. He worked my thighs, calves, ankles, feet, then worked his way up the front of them like an expert. Using his hands, fingers, thumbs, elbows and arms he worked all of the built up tension out of my muscles. When he was done all I could say was "butter, I feel like butter", that was how skillful he was.
Description of Work: The appointment was for a full body, 90 minute, deep tissue massage.

The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was very quiet and relaxing. The massage therapist was knowledgeable and thorough - she worked wonders on my sore muscles from running and I was completely relaxed at the end of the hour.

When we made the appointment by telephone we were told that my friend's manicure and pedicure would take two hours to complete and my facil would take one hour. I took a book with me to have to read for the expected one hour wait. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. My facial went very well and was done professionally. While I waited the expected hour, I ordered a glass of wine to drink on the patio while reading my book. After serving me the wine and a glass of water and returning with the bill, the server never returned. I went inside to pay the wine and services bill about an hour later. After about one hour and 15 minutes, a Villa staff member came out to the patio and told me that my friend's services were taking longer and she would be out shortly. At one and a-half hour, I went inside and asked at the front desk how much longer it would be. They suggested that I could join my friend downstairs to learn how much longer it would take. I did. We finally left forty minutes after the expected one hour wait. My friend was pleased with her manicure and pedicure. She stated the staff member was very professional and nice to talk to. Our concerns were with the much too long wait and poor communications. I would have made different plans (dinner on the patio or shopping downtown) for the hour and forty minutes had I been informed how long I really would be expected to wait.

OK. The event was supposed to be a fundraiser for the school, with 10% of price of services being returned to the school. At such a low return to the school, it seems more a way for the spa to get clients without spending for advertising. They're not losing anything by dropping the price 10%, in fact, after the visit, I got an email that encouraged me to return for a second appointment at a 10% discount. I was hoping to feel really pampered, but didn't. It was an OK massage, not a great massage, which I define by something that leaves me not wanting to move because I'm so relaxed. I couldn't really tell much difference on my skin with the fruit "polish" that was supposed to remove dead skin cells. The chin waxing was also just OK, but I felt that the technician did try harder to please. I've never had waxing done, and was disappointed that I still had plenty of coarser hairs to remove on my own.

I was disappointed with my experience at The Villa. I felt the staff at the front desk were rude and altogether "Snooty". My massage was sub-par and I felt as if the therapist was just trying to sell me products the entire time. The only services I thoroughly enjoyed were the manicure and pedicure. The technician was sweet and did a wonderful job. Unfortunately, I am afraid I will not go back because I did not appreciate the attitude of the manager.

I called and spoke with the owner on Monday, April 21 who simply kept saying, I didn't cancel 24 hours in advance. She refused to acknowledge that all previous standing appointments between 12/15/07 and 4/19/08 were canceled in the computer, or that there was a human or computer error. Although she wasn't present the morning of the 19th when I spoke with the manager, she told me I was lying about that conversation, and that was not what I was told. She kept saying that I didn't cancel and would cut me off when I told her, there was nothing to cancel, I canceled in January. She then told me that, since this was my last standing appointment with them, she wouldn't be charging me again. I told her she had no authorization to use my credit card. She actually laughed and said, if you were so certain you were correct and canceled that appointment, why'd you call the bank to see if you were charged. I then told her I would be filing complaints with consumer bureaus. I have never been treated so awfully by an individual and company. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company, and with the Better Business Bureau. However, because they don't provide confirmation or cancellation numbers, nor dispute the charges, and am waiting to hear the result. I may possibly take it to the small claims.
Description of Work: Originally I set up my year of appointments because they offer 10% off if you do it in advance this way. I had a standing appointment for an eyebrow wax and a pedicure every 6 weeks that I scheduled in February 2007. After an appt. there on December 15, I called and canceled all future standing appointments, and didn't hear from the Villa for months. On April 18, I received a call, telling me I had an appointment the next morning. I called and told them I had canceled back in January. The girl working that night, Wendy, told me she didn't have the authority, and would have to call the owner at home and call me back within an hour. After 3 hours and no call, I called back. Wendy told me the owner said I didn't cancel the appointment and would be charged if I didn't come. I kept reiterating, I had no appointment to cancel. I called the next morning (April 19) at 8:30 and spoke with the manager who told me, "Yes, we've been talking about you. We agree you don't have an appointment and we are canceling it." I was told that Janine, the owner, would be in at 9am, if she had any problems, I would get a call back. She verified my phone number, and I never heard again. My card was then charged by the Villa over the weekend.

The day before I did not receive a call to confirm my appointment, so assumed that it had in fact been canceled. I received a call the next day from my husband with a message from Villa. It wasn't to check to see where I was, or to reschedule - it was to let me know that I had missed the appointment and they were going to automatically bill my credit card. I had never agreed to having my credit card on file. In the past I had made a purchase from them, but had assumed that it would not be kept without my authorization. I contacted Janine directly to explain what had happened. I asked if she remembered our conversation on Feb 2, and she said she thought it was for after March. She said that she misunderstood, but would not refund any money. I went to my credit card company to dispute the charges, and am waiting to hear the result. I am also filing with the better business bureau and may possibly take it to the small claims.

I had an appointment for an underarm wax and a manicure and pedicure on February 23 as part of my annual set of appointments which I needed to cancel specifically. I contacted them 3 weeks before to cancel and I was told that no confirmation number was necessary by the proprietor, Janine Life. I contacted them one week beforehand to confirm the cancellation and spoke with Joy. She told me that not only had my appointments for the entire year been canceled, but this appointment specifically had been removed and that it was open for someone else to take.

The woman who did it was condescending as though I had never troubled myself with grooming products prior to my appointment that day. She knows what she does for a living right? (Of course not true, plus I had just had a wax about two months earlier). Then, she made odd bikini-wax small talk like, how many brothers and sisters do you have? Where do your parents live? Come on, the Villa is a fancy place, she could do better than that. I certainly can too and will go elsewhere for the next appointment. Finally, a friend had a waxing appointment with someone else at the Villa at the same time, and got the same weird treatment that I did.

The manicurist was very nice and did an above-average job. I was not "wowed" however, and have yet to find the manicure experience I am looking for. For some reason, the polish dried a different tint on my thumbs. I think their UV/Driers might need to be adjusted. I will keep looking elsewhere.
Description of Work: Buffing, filing, cuticles, hand exfoliation, massage, moisture wrap, painting, drying. Offered a drink or water at beginning.

I have been to many first-class spas, and this one leaves a lot to be desired. For the massage, I was placed in a bright room labeled ''Peace'' with lots of windows and was told the other dark rooms were full. I also had to ask that they turn down the music, which was far too loud for a soothing spa experience. Otherwise, the massage was satisfactory. However, I purchased a ''sport pedicure'' listed on the menu as 45 minutes @ $55. Instead, I received a 30 minute pedicure and was still charged $55! The girl at the desk insisted that the 45 minutes is really 30 minutes (I didn't understand this ridiculous statement, either!). When I spoke with the manager (Angi) who also did the pedicure, she explained that my feet weren't calloused enough to need the entire 45 minutes. Apparently, she couldn't have used the extra 15 minutes I paid for to provide a longer leg/foot massage. Philipe's offers a true 30 minute express pedicure for only $30. Go to Philipe's; go anywhere, except The Villa!

I LOVE THE SPA FACILITIES. EXTREMELY CONVENIENT SINCE I LIVE IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA. THE ALSO HAVE HOURS INTO THE EVENING, AND ON SUNDAYS. SINCE I TRAVEL WITH WORK, THIS IS ABOUT THE ONLY SPA WHERE I CAN GET SERVICES AROUND *MY* SCHEDULE RATHER THAN THAT OF THE SPA. VERY HIGH QUALITY TECHNICIANS, COMFORTABLE SETTING, SOLICITOUS STAFF. EXCELLENT!

EXCELLENT, HIGH QUALITY MASSAGE THERAPY. I FIRST THOUGHT THAT THE MUD WRAP WAS GOING TO BE PERFORMED BY A COSMETOLOGIST AND RECEIVED SO MUCH MASSAGE DURING THE TREATMENT THAT I COMMENTED ON IT TO THE SPA MANAGER. I WAS DELIGHTED TO LEARN THAT ALL BODY TREATMENTS ARE PROVIDED BY MASSAGE THERAPISTS SO MASSAGE IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE TREATMENT. I'M A REGULAR AT THE VILLA FOR BOTH NAIL SERVICES AND BODY TREATMENTS.
