R We contaced Turner Appliance for our GE Monogram refridgerator. The bottom drawers were freezing the food and the water dispenser was not working properly. The technician told us that we needed a new lower dampner & a new water tank. He quoted the price of $136 for one part & $70 for the other. We told him that we would think about it and that we wanted to contact GE since the appliance might still be under warranty. He gave us the official part no. for each piece and told us that we could try to get them ourselves, but they would not warranty the part. We found the parts for $67 & $12 online and ordered them based on his part no. given. Once the parts arrived we called Turner back to install them. When the same technician arrived, he said we had the "wrong" parts, even though they matched the part no. he gave us identically. Apparently, he wrote the numbers down wrong. The technician once again tells me that if we would have let them order the parts then we wouldn't have this problem. Really? So anyway, we return the parts (on our dime) and order the correct parts. Finally, the technician comes out and does the "repair". Two weeks later, we are still having the same problems, AND now our freezer randomly thaws out for no reason. I called Turner back AGAIN, and the same technician comes out. He tells me that they water tank is cracked AGAIN, and that we need to replace it AGAIN. Of course, he reminds me AGAIN, that if we would have ordered the parts thru them it would be covered, but since we didn't sorry about your luck. He also tried to convince me that he fixed the original problems, and these are all new unrelated problems. I finally told the company that I was done working with them and that I would just find another company. HERE IS THE WORSE PART: A few weeks later I call another company and find out the following: - The water tank was not cracked and was in perfect condition - The water dispenser was not working because we needed a new filter badly, worked perfectly after a 2 second repair - The freezer was thawing out because of a problem with the mother board. A VERY common problem with this brand/type of fridge, and should have been identified very easily.
Description of Work: Attempted to repair of refridgerator, but after 3 visits by the technician we hired a different company.

Called Angie's List to get some referrals. I called this company first and the lady was extremely nice. They had someone in my area and they called me within the hour and they got done in 1 hour. The worker that came was very pleasant and professional. They also gave me an Angie's List coupon that saved me $10.00. They were very easy to work with and made my job easy.

Finally, received my money after three months of complaints. Rick wasted my time and energy attempting to repair a dishwasher that clearly was non-operational from the day it was installed. The repairs made no difference except to take up my time placing calls and being home while futile repairs were attempted. . If the dishwasher were in excellent condition, they would have no trouble reselling it. I don't see the point insisting to the consumer that the appliance works.
Description of Work: I had used Turner for maybe ten years for repairs and purchases on a used washing machine, so was disappointed when after complaining for three months about a used Whirpool Gold dishwasher that did not work properly rom the day it was installed. Rick said that it was not unusual for a 90 minute timer (reflecting a washing cycle )to stop at several minutes intervals (for up to a half hour) resulting in a actually wash cycle of five hours or more ( finally turned off the washer). A rinse cycle of twenty minutes took over two hours or longer (after two hours I would turn off the dishwasher). More excuses: the well water, the temperature of the water, the drain hose needed repositioning (twice), new panel, etc. More calls, more complaints, wasting my time and energy as they came out and attempted and attempted and attempted to repair something that clearly was a non-functioning lemon. Just return my money promptly and I would have been a continued customer, instead of offering excuses. If things go well, you're good but they bail out when things go bad. Finally, finally got my money and my life back.

They put a lot of effort into getting it into my home and connecting the water line to the fridge so the ice maker would work. I have a 32 inches wide door, so they had to remove the doors from the refrigerator in order to get it into my house. I had checked with Home Depo first, to see if they could do that, and they told me that they wouldn't know how to put the doors back on once they were off, and that it would be an additional cost to hook up the water connection. I found this company to be most helpful.

When our basement refrigerator stopped working, I checked Angie's List to find a repairman. I noticed Turner Appliance Repair and chose that company because they had been in our home a few years ago to repair our dishwasher. I called before noon and a 2:00 p.m. appointment was scheduled the same day. The repairman called when he was on his way and arrived promptly. He introduced himself, recalling that he'd been here before. He then looked at the fridge, diagnosed the problem as a bad relay switch, told us how much the repair would cost, and then replaced the switch--all in about 30 minutes' time. As he cleaned up all the packaging, leaving the area as clean as when he had arrived, he waited to be sure the fridge was running properly. He showed us the bad part and explained why it had failed. He wrote up the repair ticket (it just so happened there was an Angie's List coupon for Turner Appliance that we got to use!!), the ticket was signed, and he was paid. The charge was very reasonable. We are happy to have our fridge back and would definitely recommend Turner Appliance Repair to others....a first rate company with first rate employees.

Jeff, the Turner Appliance technician, called before he arrived and arrived well within the time frame I was given for the appointment. He was both very professional and personable. He quickly diagnosed the problem, communicated it to me, and offered a solution. I felt the price was quite reasonable. Based on my one experience with Turner Appliance, I can well understand why the company is so highly rated on Angie's List. For future appliance repairs, I will definitely call on Turner Appliance again.

My only complaint was that I think $120 for labor is a little too much considering the amount of time spent. The repair was incredibly prompt and I appreciate the 3-year warranty on the repair.
Description of Work: Our gas dryer died so I called early on the morning of the 20th. I was told the technician could come sometime between 1:00 and 3:00. He called before he came and was here a few minutes after 1:00. He was polite and personable and seemed to know what he was doing. It took about 35 minutes total for him to replace the worn out part. We had been having problems with our dishwasher draining, so called Turner due to their positive reviews here. They set up an appointment quickly and showed up promptly. The repairman was professional and found the problem in about 10 minutes (a blockage in the drain valve), though he did have to ask to use some of our house towels to catch the water once he opened the drain. He then checked to make sure it drained and was done, so I was a bit surprised when the bill was $130 ($50 service charge plus $80 labor) for such a quick job. The work was done very well, but I will likely check around for other estimates in the future for comparison's sake.

Called Turner appliances and expected an appointment in a few weeks but was pleasantly surprised when they said they could come out that Saturday. I had requested they bring out all parts, solenoids and Icemaker so they wouldn't have to make a second trip. I gave them the model number of the refridgerator and approximate age. The repairman, Brent, arrived on time, and after checking it stated we didn't need the solenoids, just the Icemaker. He set about replacing it and had it taken care of in approximately an hour. We talked about Angies List for a while and he then put Turner Appliances decal on the inside the fridge. I really appreciate that because we forever and a day lose business cards and frequently old receipts. Now I know exactly who to call next time we need service on the fridge. Icemaker is working fine and the wife is no longer after me to get it fixed. Thank You, Turner Appliances and Marriage counselor!

The company represented that it could sell and install a Sub-Zero refrigerator, however, failed to perform even the most basic of the associated responsibilities, to wit: 1) failed to timely place the order for the fridge (I only found out the order hadn't been placed when I called to find out an ETA), 2) failed to obtain the necessary specifications for the fridge (were unfamiliar with size and space requirements), 3) when the fridge arrived, reported that it did not have a truck large enough to deliver the refrigerator, and 4) asked me to coordinate the remainder of the delivery and installation obligations with a third party. When I called to complain about the length of time it was taking to get the refrigerator (at this point several weeks had passed) one of the owners of the company, Rick Cantelberry, told me to "please be patient and I will make this right". I agreed to have patience, assuming he would then make it right. The third party vendor came out and measured the space and obtained specifications. This third party then ordered the refrigerator (that I thought had been ordered through Turner) and scheduled delivery. Once the delivery crew arrived with the refrigerator the crew refused to install it because they were afraid of the "liability". I contacted Tuner Appliance because that is the vendor with whom I had placed the original order and asked why the refrigerator could not be installed. Six weeks out from my original order, and 4 weeks out from having paid in full for a refrigerator, it is still not installed while Turner and the third party debate with one another. The Turner Appliance owner told me today that he was supposed to be out golfing, but had taken time out to try to work on resolving my order. I have now cancelled the order with no hope of receiving assistance from Turner Appliance.

Our washing machine appeared to have a major malfunction mid cycle. The genteman from Turner listened briefly to the noise the machine was making and determined that the coupler (whatever that is!) was broken. He had the part on his truck and made the repair. Would definitely recommend and will use this company again. Just hopefully not in the near future!!

I was told it was a $50 charge just for them to come out and then anything above that was extra. That seems reasonable. However, the problem was a kinked hose and they charge an additional $80 to fix anything. I wish he had told me that because $180 and a recommendation to call a plumber since once the hose was replaced the drain started backing up doesn't make me very happy. Seems like I got ripped off. If the tecnician had told me the price ahead of time, I could have just gone to Lowe's and gotten a hose for less than $20. My fault as well for not confirming this obviously. Oh well, live and learn, but I would not recommend them to anyone. I will say that the person came out was polite and seemed upset that I was upset.

Response from Turner Appliance
Angie, I am responding to a report from the member. The report is dated July 11, 2012. I have been trying to get a hold of her since the report was received. I have left several messages and have not had any response from her until Aug 27TH 2012. I was getting ready to respond to this report to let you know I could not get a hold of her but she did finally call back. I believe she was on vacation & probably busy. We had our technician Kody out to her house for a problem with her washer, it wasn’t draining. She needed a new drain hose & Kody failed to follow our policy & give the total price on completing the job. She was obviously surprised when he finished the job and the total was $170.66. I would have been surprised also. It’s our policy to always let our customers know the full price of the job before we move forward with any work. Kody is our newest technician on the road. He has been through all training & schooling. He knows to quote customers before doing any work but he dropped the ball on this one. A rookie mistake! We have talked to him about this. He knows he made a mistake & will learn from it & move forward from here. The member & I have talked & agreed on a refund of $70.00. I told her if she had any problems in the future to feel free to call me personally. She was happy with the refund & appreciated that I called & worked it out with her. Thanks Rick

Brent was on time. He gave me a 10 minute heads up, via phone, before he arrived. He was pleasant to talk with. He had the problem diagnosed within 5 minutes of arriving and was finished and gone within 45 minutes. He let me know how much the repair was going to be before starting it and explained to me what the problem was. I give everything and A rating except the price. I gave the price a B rating because the repair was almost half the cost of a new unit. I'm sure it would be that price anywhere and I understand every business has to make money... it just wasn't a mind blowing deal. I WILL call Turner Appliance again for service.

Chad called before he came in April to fix my dryer. He took the back off the dryer and found a small plastic ball which he removed. He then cleaned out the back of my dryer which he did not need to do, but he did. He made sure the dryer was working well before he left. Since that repair in April went well, I called Turner Appliance when I had problems with my washer in June and I was happy to see Chad. He showed me how to take the dispenser out of the washer and clean it out with an old toothbrush to clear the gunky fabric softener which was clogging the dispenser. Now I know how to solve that problem when it happens in the future. Chad was very friendly and professional both times he was here. In June he was able to come on the same day that I called. I received a follow up call from Turner Appliance asking about my repair experiences. I got the feeling that the company cared about me and wanted to know if I was satisfied with the repairs.
Description of Work: Chad from Turner Appliance has been here to find the cause of a noise in my dryer in April, 2012. Then Chad came to repair my softener dispenser in my washer on June 29, 2012.

We were due to leave town the next morning so needed someone to come out the afternoon that the washer stopped. We tried our usual appliance repair company, but they could not get to us that afternoon, so I went to Angie's List for an alternative. Turner was very efficient and scheduled a repairman for the 3:00-5:00 time slot. Around noon I received a phone call from the repairman saying that he had freed up earlier than expected, and if we were available he come right away. He showed up, turned the same dials on the washer that we had several times, but the washer came on for him. He went ahead and checked out several areas of the washer and concluded that perhaps the machine had over heated due to an unbalanced load. He as well put the machine into its various cycles to be certain that it was performing properly. The charges were $50 for the "service charge", and an additional $10 for labor, which I felt was very reasonable...especially when the company's policy is that if they needed to return for the same problem within the next 30 days, there would be no additional "service charge". An overall very good experience.

Repair tech,, Jeff, couldn't have been nicer or more professional. He quickly recognized what was apparently a common problem with these refrigerators. I have used Turner Appliance Repair before, they do excellent work but they are pricey. I had to pay a $50 service fee(trip charge) and a $80 service fee (1 hr labor fee?) in addition to the cost of the part. Looking at the invoice, I think he neglected to give me my 10% Angie's list discount. There was no additional cost for the follow up visit to do the actual repair thankfully. So I wound up paying $235 for a broken piece of plastic. As i said before, pricey....but what are you gonna do....it has to be repaired.Tech arrived promptly at 12 noon, the start of the two hour window I was given.
Description of Work: Repair of automatic ice cube dispenser chute flap on side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator door which had broken. A small plastic piece had broken off allowing the dispenser flap to stay open, letting air into the freezer section of the refrigerator. This caused the ice to melt and refreeze, essentially blocking off the ice dispenser. Had to order a "repair kit" at a cost of $99.00 which was a small piece of metal frame to effect the repair. Required a visit on 6/7 to diagnose the problem and order the repair kit, and a follow-up visit on 6/13 to do the actual repair.

Response from Turner Appliance
This is in response to the customer's report to you. He is a repeat customer of ours and we truly value his business. He had a problem with the cost of the repair. We charged our normal 50 service charge for coming to the house and diagnosing the problem. This fee is more or less to get the technician to your house. Any parts tax and labor is additional which is standard in this industry. The $80 he mentioned as a service fee is actually written on our invoices as ‘service time’ which is the labor time in the house. The parts and tax of course is on top of that. With that all said I agree with the customer that these prices are very high. In my opinion they are through the roof! The overhead in this business is outrageous. Look at gas prices. We usually have 9-12 trucks running around Indianapolis and surrounding counties every day. You would not believe what that adds up to. The insurance we have to carry for going into 70-100 different houses or businesses everyday is unbelievable. We have to be covered in case of a major disaster to a home or business. Advertising is through the roof, but you have to have it. Most people think advertising is a few hundred dollars or so a month. Let me assure you that is not the case. Let’s say about 30-40 times that, every month. Truck payments, truck repairs, employees, office supplies, parts, shipping charges… It goes on and on and unfortunately these costs all funnel down to all of us, the consumers. We try and keep our prices as low as possible and also offer a 3 year warranty on parts. Nobody else offers the quality of service and warranty that we do. We are no different than any other company trying to stay afloat. The way the economy has been it hasn’t been a cake walk. As far as the coupon for the Angie’s list discount, it is $10.00 off on a repair. We give that when a coupon is given to us at the time of repair. I did check the invoice and he was not given his $10.00 discount. We will make sure he gets that. Once again we highly value all our customers that continue to call us back. Our repeat business is what keeps us going and we will continue to offer our second to none service and also keep working on way to keep our prices fair.

I have a built-in wall oven which has both a microwave oven and conventional oven. The conventional oven stopped heating so I checked Angie's list and found Turner. They had good marks for punctuality and responsiveness, but that was not my experience. They were able to schedule an appointment for the next day which was a Friday. The technician showed up and was unable to determine the cause of the issue while on-site because he needed another person to come out and help pull the oven out of the wall. He said he would be out on Monday or Tuesday to do this. When Tuesday rolled around with no updates from Turner I called for an update. I was informed that they had determined the control unit was likely bad and was on order. Since this order had already been placed I would have expected to have an update that told me that rather than waiting around for someone to show up to finish diagnosing the problem. The part arrived on Wednesday and was installed on Thursday and restored the oven to working order. Aside from a display which is now significantly brighter than the display for the microwave, the quality of service is acceptable. There are a few minor scratches on the cabinet where the work was performed, but the oven is working and the price was reasonable. FOLLOW UP: I received a follow-up call from Turner regarding this review. They offered to address the scratches and apologized for the lack of communication. I appreciated the concern and the desire to make things right. The scratches are so minor it is not a big deal. I have revised my original rating and would now consider Turner for future work.

Response from Turner Appliance
This is in response to this member's report on our service call at his home. After reading the review I called and spoke with him about it. I apologized that we did not call him about ordering the part while in the mean time he was expecting us to be back Monday or Tuesday. Our technician was not able to pull his wall oven out by himself and wanted to go back with some help. In the meantime our technician spoke with another tech that was more familiar with his oven and told him he was sure it would need a new control board. At that point our tech ordered the part and no one called him. I would be upset also. I did apologize about the lack of communication. I also asked him about the scratches and if there was anything I can do to take care of them. He said they were very minor and was not a big deal. I also explained that over time the LED display will dim on the clocks. He has a brand new display on the control board so it is going to be brighter than his other clock next to it. I gave him my name and told him if he needed anything in the future to call me personally.
