I was happy with the end results.
Description of Work: Repaired dryer - took a few minutes. Said he could install a new transmission for washer or could provide a new washer. Luckily, when he finished checking the washer, the terrible noise stopped.

I had standing water in my washing machine and it would not drain or spin. I called Turner Appliance and left a message - received a call back 15 minutes later and they scheduled a tech to come out that morning. Surprisingly their rates on Sunday are the same as their standard, only a small surcharge on the trip which was worth it to me to get it fixed. The tech called me 30 minutes before his arrival and arrived within the time period promised me. He immediately diagnosed the problem and got to work fixing it. Everything works great. This is how service should work from start to finish. I have used them in the past on other items (refrigerator and clothes dryer) and experience was just as good.
Description of Work: I have used this company before with great results. I had an issue with my washing machine and it was on a Sunday morning.

He was very professional and honest. He called prior to arriving, said about 30 minutes and was prompt. Dishwasher was leaking, checked everything. Somehow the machine was full of suds, which was causing leaking. I didn't see how this could be, but I worked on cleaning up and it worked! He could have told me there was something serious, but didn't, was honest. I would use them again.

The repairman was very nice and knew what to look for with both the washer and dryer. He discovered the problem quickly and got them fixed quickly. There were no parts to purchase, just labor. I had a $75 trip fee, but I am a long distance from them. The rest of the cost was labor. He also arrived at the beginning of the time window I was given which never happens. It is usually at the end or later after I've been waiting for hours. My washer and dryer are now operating well. Before it was taking me 2 hours to get a load of clothes dry!
Description of Work: My washer was not spinning well and was not getting enough of the water out of the clothes. He found that the drain was clogged and the water couldn't drain properly. He cleaned it out and it is spinning better. My dryer was not drying clothes well and he found the exhaust hose was bent. He cut out the bent section and reconnected it, and it is now 100% better.

I called them because I have been using them for 6 years. They have been my only appliance repair people. She informed me that their pricing was $50.00 to come out and parts and labor were separate. She informed me that they couldn't price their labor costs until they got out their. They said they don't charge by the hour and they charge by the job. I then spoke with her boss and she gave me the same responses. Then they were supposed to put me in touch with their boss and they disconnected, and I still haven't heard back from them even though they had all of my information right in front of them. Now, on Angie's List I see that they advertise free estimates and they charge $80.00 an hour. I feel like they are predatory pricing me. I am familiar with this because it has happened to me before and I ended up paying 3 times more than I needed to. Unfortunately I will not continue to use this company because of their new procedures. I feel like they are being deceptive and trying to take advantage of me. Update: They were pro-active about my compliant and they did try to solve it immediately. They did come out and waived the service charge. No work was performed because the washer and dryer were not acting up at the time they were there. They did offer to come back out if the problem reoccurs.
Description of Work: You called and asked if they could come out and service my washing machine and dryer.

Hi [member name removed]- I want to explain why we do not have an hourly rate, and also if you find a company that does you should probably look elsewhere. In this industry most repairs do not take very long. I have run into companies in the past that did charge a labor rate by the 1/4 hour, so every 15 minutes you would be charged $15-$25. The bottom line is that this is completely unfair to the customer, here's why.I have tech's that have been in the business for close to 30 years, I also have tech's that are fresh out of training. My tech with 30 years experience is going to finish a job in lets say 15-30 minutes. My tech fresh out of training is going to probably take 60-90 minutes to do that very same job, so do the math. Why should you be charged for one tech's inefficiency, even though he's going to do a good job you will have to pay much more.Is that fair? We give a total price for the job before we do anything, this quote will be your complete total, no hidden charges. If the job takes longer than it should there is still no extra labor fee. She said she was disconnected and we never called her back. The reason for that is the shop and the girls in the office are in two separate buildings. When the girls transfer a customer over to me they have no way of knowing if the customer was disconnected. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does the customer usually will call back. The free estimates and the $80 hourly labor rate that is on Angies List's website is a mistake and has been taken care of. We take care of hundreds of customers every week and are as straight forward as we can possibly be. There is not any deception in anything we do, and are very proud of the way we operate. With all this said I did contact her and explained what I just have to you. I also sent a tech to her house at no charge. She did not want her washer fixed and her dryer checked out fine. She did not have to pay a dime for the service which we did as a courtesy for her trouble. She did say she would write another review too, but haven't seen one yet......Thanks Rick

It went great. Guy was on time and said he could fix it. And he did. The job was $633 but a new refrigerator would have been about $3000 and would not have the front to match the cabinets in the wetbar. It was worth every penny to fix it. And it has a 3 year warranty on the repair.
Description of Work: We had been told by 2 difference appliance people that our Amana refrigerator could not be fixed, which was unfortunate because it was pretty new and it was count depth and had panels matching the cabinets. After seeing the article in the Angie's List magazine, I gave them a call. They came out the next day and explained it could be expensive but that it could be fixed. They ordered the part and came back 3 days later to install the evaporator that was supposedly not fixable according to the other guys.

On the day of my scheduled appointment their office called to say their repairman couldn't make and it would be a couple days before they could get out. I told them I would have to call someone else then because I couldn't wait that long. She then (she was very nice) found me an appointment the next day. But that afternoon (the day of the original appt) the service man called and said he was on his way - he never knew they cancelled my appt. He came out, found the problem said he would have to order a part and would call me the next day to tell me how long it would take to get it. I didn't hear anything so I call that next afternoon. The office said they didn't have me down that anyone visited and that they didn't know anything about a part. Finally they got a hold my service man he called me said it would be two days until the part came in. Two days later I called the office because I hadn't heard anything, they transferred me to parts I had to leave a message asked for a call back next morning (I called around 4:30). Never got the call, so I had to call again. The parts department said they didn't know anything about it (didn't show I had a service call either) and would need to call my service man. They got a hold of him and found out he had the part and they still knew nothing about it. They got me scheduled that afternoon to have the part in. I feel like I shouldn't have had to call so much for a $20 part that cost me $150 with installation. I wonder if I wouldn't have called how lone I would have waited for the part.

The dishwasher door was stuck in the closed position and would not open. The home owner examined the dishwasher, suspecting that the door latch had jammed or was broken, but was unable to access the hidden internal latch. He then called 3 dishwasher service companies located in the city to ask about a service call. Turner Appliance Repair indicated they could come out to our home the same day, which they did, exactly on-time. The serviceman, Jeff, was very friendly and very knowledgeable. He did not need to run any kind of expensive diagnostics as required by other dishwasher service companies. He quickly took off the necessary panels of the dishwasher, accessed the latch, and verified it was broken. He then called his support staff and located a replacement latch, which was in stock. He also provided an exact estimate for the total job, including $ 45. for the new part. The next day he returned, again exactly on-time, and fixed the dishwasher latch. The cost was exactly as he had estimated. While at our home, the serviceman also provided us some good advice on another appliance in need of a minor repair. We were totally satisfied in all respects with the service provided. In fact, compared to other service experiences, this one exceeded our expectations.

I sent out a request for a quote from 5 different providers. Turner's responded within 1 hour. They actually came out, diagnosed the problem, then repaired the same prior to the other 4 providers even responding to my request for a quote. David was the worker who made a recommendation to bi-pass the fuse rather than replace for 2 1/2 times the amount b/c the fuses normally blow after about 3 years. David arrived on time, was courtesy, and performed work satisfactorily. My only regret is that I forgot to print the Angie's list coupon. The price was much lower than expected so I don't regret it so much. Turner's is our new go to for appliance repairs!

The dishwasher was not working. A repairman came to our house on time, diagnosed the problem, and quoted a price that included the installation ($80) and the cost of the replacement part for a control panel on a Bosch purchased new eight years ago ($242). Later, he said that the part was no longer available which seemed odd as he had quoted a very specific price for it. We called Bosch and they said they had the part and would send the part to us for $128 plus shipping. Turner Appliance then said they could install for $80 and that the part would cost approximately $195. Again, this seemed odd as Bosch had the part for $128. Turner said they incuded a three year warranty which was why they charged more but that we could order from Bosch and they would install for $70. They quoted us for a part they couldn't find, then marked up the part we went to the trouble to track down, and then marked down the installation if we bought the part from Bosch. Altogether this was a confusing experience--the price and availability of parts and service changing with every phone call. It didn't make Turner Appliance seem like a company with much credibility or transparency of business practices.

Angie- we were told by Two major parts distributors that this part was no longer available. When our customer said she called Bosch and they had the part I was confused on how she could get it and we couldn't. I had my parts rep here in town call Bosch directly and they told him yes they can send the part. This got me upset seeing we lost a customer. I have had companies in the past say they could get the part when it is no longer available but were not able to. I got curious and went ahead and ordered it anyway, this was on July 9th. August 6th. rolls around and still no part so I had my rep call to inquire. He calls me back about an hour later with some odd news. It seems that the part is available but Bosch will only sell the part to an authorized Bosch service co. Nobody can give me an answer as to why.We buy Bosch parts all the time and have never had this problem. We used to be an authorized co. but we dropped them because of to many headaches and red tape. I know that my customer with the Bosch d/w is also not an authorized co. either. There was a lot of confusion on pricing only because she was trying to get the part herself. We gave her a price if we were to supply the part and also a price if she supplied the part. I will offer her to put the part in FREE if she somehow is able to produce the part. Thank you....Rick

They were very reasonable. It could have been much better and we are really not happy with it. The ice maker has a problem with the evaporator and it was leaking and that was not the problem but the problem was what it would cost to fix it as we had to take it to the shop. A week later we called them and they said it would be $1500 to fix it which is as much as we paid for when we bought it so we said no. Two days ago we got a call from them that the part was in that we ordered to fix the ice maker. We told them we had not and we had decided right then that we will not put that kind of money into it because we can get a new one for that. They don’t communicate very well within. He didn’t have the right phone number for us when he came out originally so he didn’t end up getting when he was supposed to. They seem to be very disorganized. If we had it repaired the price would have been exorbitant but the service call was cheap.

Angie- The price for this repair I agree is very high, but you have to understand that this is a large labor intense job. The unit has to be picked up, brought into the shop, then the repair on it is pretty much a full day job. After that we need to run it and monitor it for a few days before we are able to return it to the house. They may have paid $1,500 for it when they bought it, but I can assure you a replacement is more now, not alot more but a good amount more. We don't advise customers to put that kind of money into an older machine because the repair is about 75% of what a new one will cost. Some customers do go ahead with the repair though, usually because they have a decorative panel of some sort to match other cabinets, or it may be customized in some other way. As far as ordering the part and having the wrong phone number, well I don't no about Mrs. Roberts but I still make mistakes every day! I do apologise if that did cause her any inconvenience, but we really do try our very best. We run up around 100 service calls a day and believe me I wish there were no mistakes, but like I have said many times before, we live in an imperfect world and unfortunately there will be mistakes. Thank you so much for your gret service...Rick

Danny showed up on time but stayed in his service vehicle until he was finished talking on his cell phone. Gave no explanation for talking on the phone since I was standing on the front porch watching him I suppose he thought he was on time. That should have been my first clue that it wasn't going to be a good experience. Introduced him to the tenants and took him to the basement where the washer and dryer were located. Told him we recently purchased the house and the previous owner had left the washer and dryer. The previous owner had told me the dryer was not working but the washer was fine. Told this to Danny and I wanted him to take a look at the washer as well and to give his professional opinion on it too. Danny started with the washer, took a hold of the drum and moved it up and down and told me that the bearing was bad and started taking the washer apart. When he got down to the bearing and tried to take the drum off the bearing he couldn't remove it. He fought with it for about five minutes and said that he would have to get some other tools that he didn't have with him. And, by the way it would cost roughly 380.00 to 400.00 dollars to repair. He obviously new I wouldn't go for that since it was a rental property and I could by another washer for half the cost to repair. So, he throws all the parts back into the washer and moves onto the dryer. And, he tells me that I would be better off buying a new one from them because the sensor error code will come on because he couldn't remove the supposedly bad bearing. I ended up putting the washer back together well almost completely back together. One of the screws fell into one the slots in the drum and I couldn't retrieve it. Anyway, the washer works fine even with one screw missing and the sensor light never came on either. On to the dryer... Danny takes of the back cover touches his meter to a couple of terminals and says he has to go out to his truck for the part. He comes back with a little part in a plastic bag. He never took the part out of the bag and I never did seem him replace anything. He turns on the dryer and it starts running. He puts the cover on the back and I asked what he replaced and he said a thermal sensor. I asked him to show me the part and he hands me the plastic bag that he brought in and it looks like a small used plastic bracket. I said oh ok how much do I owe you. He hands me a bill for 158.84. On the bill it says the washer needs a new bearing assembly and the customer is going to buy a new unit. And for the dryer he found a therm fuse to be bad. I wrote the check because I wasn't going argue with a thief. When he left I pushed the dryer back up against the wall after I hooked the vent hose back up. Guess what I found under the dryer. Yeah, a little glass fuse that was blown. 36.30 was the cost of what I thought was a plastic bracket and not a fuse. 80.00 for service time and 50.00 for service charge and minus 10.00 for being on Angies list. I found out they work on commission. Go figure.

Dear [member name removed]; Unfortunately our guys have to live on their phones basically all day every day. I am really sorry that it seemed to be such an inconvenience to him that our tech was still on the phone when he pulled into his delivery. When our techs leave a customer's house they have to call parts in, get a hold of the office and give them a rundown for every call they complete. They also have to call the next customer to let them know they are on their way to the home. The bearings are one of the most common repairs for that washer. Yes, it does run around three hundred and eighty dollars. You do need a special tool that whirlpool sells and we keep it at the shop and sign it out for those jobs as needed. We do repair a lot of those seeing they are very expensive machines and it is a lot cheaper to repair than to replace. Also, many people like to keep a matching set so they elect to repair the washer. The reason our tech put the parts back into the machine is because the customer said he was going to purchase a new one. They were getting a fault code in the washer display and it will continue to do it again. It is our policy to put machines back together, but the customer again told our tech he was going to replace it. On to the dryer. The customer's complaint on the dryer was that the appliance would not run. Our tech told the customer what was wrong along, with the cost as we always do, and the customer authorized repair. Our tech went to his truck and grabbed the part, installed it on the dryer and turned it on. The dryer ran and the issues were fixed. A very easy and quick repair if you know what you are doing. The customer knew exactly what our tech replaced, and when I asked my tech about it he laughed. The laugh was because we have certain customers we call "backpackers". These are people who lean over our back so feverishly to see what you are doing, it is like having a backpack on. Yes, the piece does look like a small plastic bracket with terminals. That's just what it looks like, I did not design the part so I am sorry if it looked like a plastic-bracket to him. Power runs through this part and if it gets too hot or malfunctions it trips and is not re-settable. Therefore you have to replace it, you are left with no other options. The customer then said he asked "how much do I owe you". Wrong! Repair costs are always given before the repair so we can get approval before completing the job. We run up to one hundred calls a day, can you imagine if we just went ahead and did repairs without authorizations from the customer? Then handed a bill for whatever we decided to charge without the customer's approval? We would not be in business too long I could tell you that! I know I would never write a check without being told the price first. He says he wasn't going to argue with a thief. This comment really boiled my blood! We here at Turner Appliance practice nothing but quality service and honesty! I am able to sleep like a baby at night because of the way we carry this company. He then said he had to push the dryer back and hook up the vent hose. We always clean up after ourselves and make sure the appliances are ready to use when we leave. We would never leave an appliance sitting out for a customer to push back. My tech laughed again and said the customer has a lot of issues with telling the truth. The customer then said "guess what I found under the dryer", like he finally caught the criminal thief! A glass fuse. Well, Mr.Customer I believe you have uncovered our thievery. Not really! There is nowhere on that dryer where there is a glass fuse of any kind! I called the customer a couple of times to talk with him about this but was only able to reach his voicemail to leave a message. I did not expect a call back and guess what, I didn't. When someone writes all of this garbage about a company I would at least expect them to stand behind their garbage and make a return phone call. I will tell you Angie what I was going to tell him. If he can find anywhere on that dryer where there is any glass fuses I will refund his bill completely. What is the problem with working on commission? I know a lot of people that do. I find that they work harder on commission than getting paid a salary or by the hour. They cannot charge whatever they want because I have dealt with customers like this before. Being in the business for 30 years, this happens here and there. Watching so closely over our technicians back, the customer saw that it was a relatively easy fix once the faulty part was found. The customers sees how easily our tech located the problem and repaired it. Seems like a pretty easy fix for 158 dollars. The customer scratches his head and thinks to himself "Gosh I could have done that". Lots of times customers see the repair done and know they could have done that themselves. Well, a lot of customers may be able to do the repair, but you have to know what is wrong with the appliance first. That's where we come in. Yes you do pay for the repair, but first and foremost you pay for us to come to your house and diagnose the problem. I think our reputation on Angie's List speak for itself. We have been at fault in the past and whenever we are wrong we make it right! We are proud of our reputation with you and BBB. We will continue to provide our second to none services. Thanks [member name removed]for letting the companies respond to these complaints. -Sincerely, Rick.

The technician called me about 15 minutes before arriving, and was well within the window I was told to expect. He came in and asked what the problem was and started to investigate. He soon determine the control board was fried and needed to be replaced along with 3 other parts that GE had said were bad off the line (but were not doing anything about themselves). He wrote up the estimate for fixing it, then also explained what they offer if we'd rather purchase a new or refurbished unit from them. He had all of the parts needed to fix the job on the spot, so for time sake, we chose to do that. It took him less than 30 minutes, and everything worked immediately. Steve was polite, professional, and very informative. We would definitely call them again!
Description of Work: Steve came to look at our refrigerator/freezer, because it was no longer cooling.

The company responded courteously to our phone call, and was able to send out a technician that same day. He diagnosed the problem (it was an older machine) and tried to use a repair part that he had in his service truck. Unfortunately, it was not a good enough fit, so we had to wait for a day. The second repairman arrived right on schedule and made the repair very promptly. Both servicemen were very professional and competent and didn't mind responding to my questions. The problem appears to have been fixed completely.
Description of Work: Repaired a leak in an automatic washing machine.
