He didn't go on the roof which I think he should have, but did a good job.

Deceitful. On 20 June I paid $99 for an assessment for a chimney rebuild, and Warren came to my property and provided me a reasonable quote ($3750). After comparing other bids, I called Warren on 3 July and scheduled the work to start on 30 July. The $99 would be credited towards the job. On 26 July Dennis called me and said Warren had erred, and the job would cost $5091 (a 35% increase). When I asked to meet, discuss and negotiate, he refused. Take it or leave it. I received a revised job quote via email reflecting the $1341 increase, and they had back dated it to 3 July. I visited the office on 27 July to discuss the situation, but the admin, Leeann, would only agree to refund me the $99. She sent a “credit memo” via email, but it has not posted to my credit card and, frankly, I will be surprised if it does. Don’t waste your time with this dishonest organization. They’re not worth the risk.

Everything went great. He called because he was available early and wanted to know if it would be ok to come earlier then planned. When he arrived, he introduced himself and verified the scope of work requested. He went straight to work. When complete he explained everything he did, showed pictures of things that would need work, and answered all of my questions. It was only $150 for the inspection and cleaning and I received my receipt with the pictures he had taken within minutes. He was quick, clean and very professional. Thank you Mad Hatter for a great experience.

Asked for them to look at our chimney twice, but they never responded. If they can't have the courtesy to respond to my requests, I can expect the same kind of care as they the work for me. I have no trust in people like that. I won't even consider them for any work I may have in the future.

Called when was ahead of schedule and asked to come early. Very detailed inspection and gave us information about the fireplace insert and about getting a owner's manual. Great experience and great service.

Dennis from Mad Hatter removed our old insert and installed the new one. He was careful not to create a mess and did the job quickly, professionally, and at a good price.

The service was excellent - friendly, courteous and timely. Mad Hatter was very clear with the description of the work that needed to be done, approximate timing of the work, and detailed estimate associated with the proposed work. Mad Hatter was great in addressing our questions regarding chimney cleaning (top down or bottom up?) and provided refresher instructions on fire safety and chimney flue us. They were attentive with our questions and concerns with repair of the chimney due to age and some original construction issues. Would highly recommend!

What a nice experience to be greeted with a happy face; and the work accomplished was very thorough. Dennis was a nice guy to meet. I also recommend them for chimney service. These services are so important to maintain and keep a good working fireplace.

He told the perspective buyers that in the past we had a fire in the chimney which we have never had and we had this verified by CICR, Central Indiana Chimney Repair. We have burned 5 ricks of wood per year for the past 9 years without a problem. He was correct in that we needed a stainless steel insert in the chimney now, but it was not required when the insert was installed. He wanted to charge $7800 to do it not the $2800 to $3200 that CICR is charging us. We also have a vent-less gas fireplace in the bedroom. He told the buyers he would install a firebox in place of the vent-less gas fireplace and the cost would be $1800. We are doing it if for less than $1000. This guy scared the buyers so badly. It seems he explained that it could require a helicopter and a crane to fix the fireplace. I wouldn't let this guy near my house. His stuff must be gold plated or he just saw a very nice home and thought he could charge double and triple. He must have convinced the buyer he was the only one capable of doing the repair as the buyer would not let us bring in another expert to fix the problem.

The technician came to door to let me know he had arrived and would be on the roof to inspect the chimney. When he came down he had pictures to show me regarding the issues that he saw with the chimney cap. I appreciated the fact that he had pictures and I could see the extent of the rust on the cap. He informed me that it would be $1300 plus tax to replace the chimney cap. I had done some research thinking this might be the issue and felt is was a fair price. I asked him if that would be the extent of the charges and he said yes. I again asked if he was sure that would be the price and again he said yes, it would be $1300 plus tax. I told him that I wanted to go ahead and have his company replace the cap. I then received an email with an invoice attached indicating a cost of over $2000. When I called the office they said that after looking at the photos they felt the flashing needed to be replaced as well. The technician did not indicate there was anything wrong with the flashing and he had the opportunity to inspect it first hand versus in a photo. Needless to say I was not happy and decided not to utilize them for the repair. I don't have any issue with the fact that I think Mad Hatter would have done a good job, I just felt as if they were trying to find other things to increase the cost. In the meantime I have contracted another company to complete the project. There cost is actually a bit higher than Mad Hatter's original estimate, but they found nothing wrong with the flashing so in the end I am saving money.

It really stopped the leak in the area of the roof. I thought the price was maybe on the high side. The guy who did the job did a great job. I haven't had any other comparison prices so I don't know if it was a fair deal. I haven't been on the roof to see the quality but due to the leak being gone I would assume they did good.

We’ve been using them multiple times. What keeps bringing them back to us is their quality of work. They are friendly and nice. They do a good job.

Dennis was at my home right on time. He was friendly and not put off by my two golden retrievers. In fact, he came to the door with a bone for them! Dennis inspected the chimney and cleaned it out. He spent time explaining that the chimney would need to be fixed in the future but there was no urgency. He also commented on the torn fireplace screens and measured them for me so I clan replace them. As for our dryer vent, he said there was no need for me to spend extra money because it is so short and we can easily do it. I appreciated his honesty. I will definitely use the Mad Hatter in the future and I will recommend their services. They put the customer first .

It went terrible--when I called the company she had a attitude and it got worse......The tech who was out also gave me a price to fix cracks in chimney-------then the office doubled price-------------I left several messages and e-mails of which none were returned......When I finally did get someone to answer the ATTITUDE started again.............I explained the chimney was never cleaned and I didn't want to pay for this..............I wanted the chimney cleaned out---not the fireplace. I always kept that area clean--------I wanted to get rid of the creosote in the chimney....She got nastier and nastier------I then received a e-mail stating we don't want to ever do business with you.........I have never been treated so badly in my life while trying to do business..........I finally hired someone else to work on my chimney and they did a wonderful job at half the price............We were very happy with their work----and attitude. I certainly would not recommend The Mad Hatter to anyone................It was a totally BAD experience and I would like my money back plus a $25.00 fee to report them to a consumer agency.............I really do not have the time to go throufg the entire scenario of Attitude problems.Thank you for your time.............

I had to leave a message explaining where to call me back. They didn't call me back on the number I left. I asked to have them come out on Saturday, because they do advertise Saturday hours. The lady was short with me and told me they were not working on Saturday. They lost business because they were not willing to come out, or compromise.
