The extent of the diagnosis on the laptop took about one day. They thoroughly checked out my laptop and found extensive liquid spill damage to the motherboard, keyboard, and CPU . (the hard drive was found to be OK). They itemized the cost to repair the computer and recommended buying a refurbished one and ordered same. The initial laptop they ordered was found to have some cosmetic scratches on the case which was unacceptable to them, so they ordered another one. The replacement they received was subjected to a battery of acceptance tests. Operating system was upgraded to Windows 10 and a antivirus program was added. During all of this process they kept me apprised (almost daily) of the progress being made. I found the Computer Guys technicians very professional in there interface with me. There work was very timely. I particularly appreciated the updates they gave during the entire process. I believe the cost I paid for the replacement laptop was extremely reasonable. I would highly recommend the Computer Guy.

The work by the Computer Guys was excellent. They were thorough and kept me updated on the progress of my computer. My only "complaint" is the time it took I was told it would be 4-5 business days to complete the work. It did take a day longer. However, they were thorough and again, kept me apprised of the progress. There was no need to completely rebuild my system as had been my past experience with computer viruses. Their location is not convenient to where I live but if the need arises I would return to them for service.

I gave them a good working older laptop computer. When I received it back it no longer works.I was told their were no invasive procedures performed. I did not try to get this resolved. It was not worth my time or effort I had already bought a new laptop before this.

This customer brought in his older laptop to us because he was having some issues with it. Unfortunately, when testing this computer, it failed our comprehensive diagnostic process. While running these tests, we had found that this PC had a bad hard drive with bad sectors. When a computer has a bad hard drive, you run the risk of the computer not restarting at any given time. Upon notifying the customer of this issue, he did not want to continue with repairs due to cost of replacing said hard drive. We would have gladly resolved this problem with the customer had he approved moving forward with the repairs.

Description of Work: We couldn't see the screen on our laptop. We had taken it to a different business previously to repair that problem. Two weeks after getting the laptop back we began having the same problem. We looked for a different place to have it repaired and chose The Computer Guy. They replaced a part and discovered the original work done by the previous repair place was improperly done, which required ordering a second part.

Typical bait and switch. Delivered CPU to The Computer Guy May 1. Voice mail message from employee stating additional charge of $49. I called back and left message that I would pick up the computer and expected a refund of $30 since the job was not completed. I paid $30 for an Angie's big deal: Computer Virus & Spyware Removal with PC Optimization. The owner called me right back from home in Fishers late Friday night. I stated to Gary that I had read the disclaimer in his advertisement with Angie's and understood there were additional charges for reloading Windows software but I would seek the entire service elsewhere because I felt this was a bait and switch. Gary stated that his employees often get the information wrong and then advised there would be no additional charge for removing the 7 viruses and re-load windows. I told him that since he was so kind to do the work for $30 that had I changed my mind and would pay his employee's quote of no more than $49 to load my contacts from g-mail to Outlook from my Office Professional disc. I picked up my computer on May 8, I was informed that Outlook contacts had not been loaded because they did not have the "key" to the Office Professional disc that I provided. Employee asked for an additional $49 for the Window's software. I advised them of my conversation with the owner, Gary, and they called him. Gary had not documented the file properly and had apparently forgotten the nature of our conversation, around 9 p.m. on May 1, Friday night. His employees said he is notorious for improper documentation following conversations with customers. I felt he had been drinking when I spoke with him late on Friday but that is speculation based on his speech and overly kind spirit. I asked the employees to call Gary back and that I wanted to talk to him. This conversation took place around 2:30 p.m. and his manner and tone was completely different. He was combative and abrasive and refused to take the $49 charge off denying the content of our conversation as I understood it, implying I did not understand what he said to me. I paid the additional $49 and left extremely unsatisfied. I made notes of my conversation and have a very clear memory of the conversation. Gary denies that he agreed to no additional charges unless Outlook contacts were loaded. He stated to me on the phone when I picked up the computer that $49 would be an exorbitant price for merely loading g-mail contacts into Outlook, contrary to what he said previously when he persuaded me to allow his company to do the work for the $30. Very sweet and knowledgeable customer service staff. I was unhappy before leaving the store after a week without my computer and sincerely hope my comments were not disrespectful to employees when I left the store and tried to direct my displeasure at Gary. My remarks and grading are directed to the owner, Gary. I have no desire to harm The Computer Guy's business. I'm merely telling it like it is. I feel really bad for his employees.

When I first arrived, the gal could not find my apt. She said it was for 3/24/14 not 3/21/14. I then suggested that I just leave my computer and they could work on it on Monday. She wasn't quite sure she could do that but since I was already there, it just made sense. She called Gary to get permission- which she got. It was made clear to me that they wouldn't have time to work on it until Monday. I said that'd be fine and I left it with them. About 35 minutes later, I received a call from Gray telling me not asking me that I had to return a to fill out paperwork. I questioned why because I was just there and they didn't mention anything about filling out paperwork. I assumed he didn't like my question since Gary proceed to tell me my appointment was scheduled for April 24th and not March 24th. I said that I didn't believe him because when I called on 3/17/14 to set the appointment, I was told I was the first to redeem their coupon. When I arrived to drop off my computer, again I was told I was the first to redeem. So I am a month out? I find that hard to believe. The gal in office had their calendar out to find my appointment, if I was truly a month out, why didn't she tell me? Gary's very poor professionalism told me to just pick up my computer and take my business elsewhere. So I told Gary I would be back to pick up my computer. When I got back to the their shop, Gary got out of his chair to tell me I could call Anglie's List and get my money back. I would like to request a refund at this time.

Mr. [removed member name]- First off, let me begin by pointing out that the Big Deal Coupon clearly states that a scheduled appointment is required. You were scheduled for April 21st not March 21st, yet when you walked in on March 21st, we kindly offered you our next available day. To that you stated “it did not matter; it is my wife’s computer.” Unfortunately, leaving your laptop on the counter and quickly jotting down only your first name, your Culligan’s work number, and cell phone number and then walking out, was not sufficient to the legal paper work needed to be completed, by you, to allow us to perform any services to your laptop. There is not a business in the customer service industry that does not require the customer to give proper documentation and contact information to protect all parties involved. We still tried our best to accommodate your needs through reaching out to you via the phone numbers you left. The aggressiveness of your tone when trying to obtain the necessary information, your lack of cooperation, the disregarding of the “Angie’s List fine print” on the coupon and all store policies, is what led to the decline of our services to you. So with that being said, my staff was correct in saying you were being aggressive and arrogant. As a business owner, I decided that we would not perform services for you in the best interests of both parties. I advised you to contact Angie’s List for a refund. Immediately after your departure, I contacted Cassandra (AL Supervisor) and Jessica (AL Big Deal Representative) to explain the incident and requested that they refund your money. It hurts me that after 5 years of being Indy’s #1 Virus and Spyware Removal Specialist, over 30 positive reviews and maintaining an “A” rating; that you would decide out of anger to give us an “F” rating across the board although no services were preformed. I suppose it was cleaned up, but the laptop speed is still slow and the computers do not talk to each other. They have a lot of reasons why all this happened, but the bottom line is, after I spent several hundred dollars, I did not get what I asked for and what they said they would deliver.

We used a discount off of Angie’s List that worked out really good. I thought he was reasonably priced and he did a fine job. He let us know that we had about 250 viruses that he removed and he also put on an anti-virus program. The computer is working fine now.

I needed to have my desktop computer serviced. My problem was that my PC is liquid cooled and the cooling system was not working properly. I goggled the issue and found that the particular cooling unit I had was problematic. Most sites and blogs that I read recommended replacing the unit with a different brand. Cost of the replacement cooling units ranged from $90.00 to a couple hundred dollars. I took the PC into their location for Gary to look at. Keep in mind that I was prepared to spend as much as $500.00 on this repair and I had told Gary on the phone that I wanted a new liquid cooling unit installed. His response on the phone was "Bring it in and let me have a look at it". Upon examination of the PC, Gary told me that liquid cooling units were the "cool" thing to buy 5 years ago but today?s fans coupled with a good heat sink would do just as good a job and you didn't have to worry about it blowing and getting liquid all over the insides of your computer which could end up with a costly repair or trashing the computer completely. The unit had blown while under warranty and poured liquid all over the interior so I knew just what Gary was referring to. And he said it would be a lot less expensive for the repair. Reducing the cost of my repair and the added benefit of not worrying about an even more costly repair down the road sold me on Gary?s idea. Basically, me repair cost was estimated to be his labor and the cost of a new heat sink and cooling fan. Gary told me it would take about a week depending on how quickly he could get the parts and the cost would be under $200.00. I left the unit with him late on a Friday and he called me the following Monday to tell me my PC would be ready for pick up in the afternoon. Not only did he turn it around quickly, he found a way to use the cooling fan for the liquid cooling system rather than adding the cost of a new fan and saved me money in the process. Not many business people are this honest and have their customer?s best interests in mind. Gary did not know me prior to this and when I picked up the unit I asked about the discount he advertises on here. He gave me the discount and treated me great without the knowledge that I was a member here. That tells me that is how this gentleman does business period. Anyone that I know that needs some computer work done will be referred to Gary from this day forward.

Gary had previously de-virused our desktop computer at home. So when my laptop got infected, I took it straight to his shop. He did the work in a timely fashion and installed anti-virus and parent watchdog software, so the problem will not happen again. I am very pleased with his knowledge, professionalism, price, and convenience. He is trustworthy, and that's important when someone is servicing your computer.

Gary is a wonderful person, who goes above and beyond! He always shows up on time and very quickly. We have been using him for over a year now, and will not use anyone else. He does everything possible to fix the problems quickly.

I stopped in his office and asked for an estimate to remove the computer virus that had locked up my computer. It was extremely reasonable so I left my laptop with him and he completely fixed it. He also added an alert so my son couldn't go to sites I don't approve. I believe I was without my computer for just 1 week and was very happy with the results. Gary was very interested in my problems, listened to me, and found solutions that work for my family. I WILL use him again in the future.
