Given the disruption that is inevitable when completely redoing a kitchen, the work went exceedingly smoothly with few delays and unexpected issues. The crew took great pains to make sure their work didn't affect the rest of the house. They worked steadily and hard. The demolition and rough carpentry were completed in several days. The project began in mid-January so weather caused some delay but Greg or his partner, Tim always kept me updated. I was very pleased, not only by their work, but also by the sub contractors (electrical, drywall, plumbing, insulation) they work with - all that I met were very professional. Greg was sensitive to my wish to end up with a kitchen that "fit" personalitywise with the rest of my house and helped me make decisions that made that happen. I'm very pleased with the result - it's not a "retro", self-consciously ol' timey kitchen; it's clearly modern yet completely in keeping with the simple, bungalow style of my home's interior. The one hiccup in the entire project involved the installation of modern linoleum flooring. The initial install was not perfect but also not horrible. It was not, however, up to Spivey Remodeling standards and Greg insisted that it be completely redone. The new installation is seamless and perfect and I'm glad I trusted his advice to endure the extra inconvenience. These guys are top-notch professionals, wonderful to work with and do excellent work.
Description of Work: After determining the best way to solve my kitchen problem (unsufficient space, desparately in need of upgrade), Greg made a detailed plan used by his crew and his subs. Work involved completely gutting my 1920s bungalow kitchen and a rear pantry/stair space. Once demolition was complete, work included sealing and insulating exterior walls, insulating the attic, rebuilding a stair to the basement, installing new counters and cabinets, a complete electrical and plumbing upgrade, drywall, new flooring, and finish carpentry around windows and doors to match the pre-project appearance,

I cannot say enough good things about our experience with this company! Greg's engineering design of the new roof and porch solved longstanding problems not just with the leaking deck, but also with a funny area of the original design of the house roof. They were sensitive to some concerns we had about the timing of the project and when we mutually decided to delay it a few months, the result was perfect timing for our family's convenience. When things did get underway the faulty water collection system under the deck was completely redone first. The roof framing was done by Greg's team, but the roofing materials were applied by a roofing sub-contractor. All this had to be scheduled around some persistently rainy weather, but whenever the skies cleared, they were right there on the job. Once under roof, they expertly framed and boarded the wall extensions and ceilings for both upper and lower porches. Painter, electrician and hot tub delivery were all coordinated smoothly. Lastly the screens and windows were installed for am amazing finished product. As the project evolved we made some requests and suggestions for additional aspects of the project and Greg's team also made some suggestions. Every one of them was evaluated and addressed so that they accomplished all that was originally contracted plus much more. I was very involved with the project, which I know can sometimes drive builders crazy. If Greg & his team ever thought this about me they never let on. They were always available to listen and respond to any concerns. Our project coordinator par excellence was Tim Steill, and workmen Tim & Paul were true craftsmen, taking pride in their excellent work to the utmost detail. They cleaned up the work area daily and stowed their tools and supplies neatly. They were always prompt, pleasant and polite. I had no qualms about leaving the house open for them when I had to be away. The finished project is truly a work of art as well as engineering. It replaced an essentially un-usable deck with a wonderful screened upper porch complete with hot tub, and a beautiful and now DRY enclosed porch below which can easily be enjoyed three seasons a year.
Description of Work: We started with a screened-in porch below and a leaking deck above. Greg and his team worked with us to engineer a solution to the leakage problem, then add a roof over a vaulted ceiling and and screen panels to the upper porch,, plus add three-season windows to the lower porch.

He said he would have an estimate for me by Monday. I called him today, Wednesday, when I didn't hear from him, and he said he spent Tuesday with his kid so he didn't have my estimate ready. I thought that was very unprofessional. If he isn't interested in doing my job, or if it's too small a job, he should just let me know that.

I was out at this clients home on a Thursday and told him I would get him a price the following week. Member called two business days later and asked for his estimate,I told him that i had taken my son on a college tour that day and would finish his estimate and get back with him the next day.The next day when I started my computer I was notified that I had a new report and Member had wrote this rerport.I told Member that to get a accurate price I had to get with suppliers and my trade partners such as my electrician and plumber.I feel I preformed very well and dont deserve such a write up.I feel this is a loop hole in the angies list system that is unfair to the service provider
The job went well overall. I contacted Greg Spivey who came out promptly, and we discussed the bathroom remodel. He is a wonderful designer and had excellent suggestions presenting the options I had with various products and configurations. I had adequate time to visit the tile company he most often works with and bring home samples to consider. He brought over other samples (cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, vanity tops, etc.). Business was good - it was several weeks before work began, but once it did, things moved quite well. The coordination of the subcontractors had a few minor glitches, but no major hold ups. All personnel who did the work and the supervisor oversight were friendly, and responsive. Clean up at the end of each work day and at the end of the job was very good. There was a credit allowance for fixtures (drawer pulls, towel and toilet paper racks, mirror) that I wanted to find from various venders. The tile work is exceptional and I love the clear glass sliding shower doors.
Description of Work: Complete tear-out old bathroom and fixtures Installed walk in shower with sliding glass doors, cultured marble base, ceramic tile walls to the ceiling with cut-out for shampoo, etc., all new plumbing, shower head and shower faucet with pre-set water temperature setting All walls torn out and replaced with layers of water and mold resistant materials New vanity with cultured marble top with molded sink - polished nickel fixtures as throughout the bathroom New wooden floor to ceiling linen cabinet to match the vanity - the drawers in the vanity are the soft close kind which especially tickle me Further ceramic tile on the floor and wainscoting. Installation of an exhaust fan - the old bathroom didn't have one Installed new bathroom door - came in raw wood that I varnished. I also painted the walls (I knew from the start that I would be responsible for this work) I purchased and Spivey installed: sconce lights, mirror, towel racks, and drawer handle pulls - there was a reimbursement allowance for these items.

This was a very comprehensive project as it involved new construction of a commercial building within the ?mile square? of downtown Indianapolis. Greg was involved from the beginning of the project and fully participated in every aspect from initial evaluation of the city guidelines for architectural style of new construction in the area, through gaining approval for demolition of the existing structure on the property, designing the building to meet all functional needs, aesthetics, requirements and codes, and ultimately building the new structure. Every step of the process leading up to construction involved numerous meetings, hearings and submission of plans to an endless list of agencies. I?d still be working through the process if not for Greg?s help. His knowledge was invaluable and he maintained a great attitude through it all despite the bureaucracy. Tim Steill managed the construction. Tim is very experienced and has an amazing ability to find the best person for each job. Whether choosing from the talented guys they have on staff or outside subcontractors, he knows who can get it done and do it best. They truly take pride in the quality of the work they deliver-- and they do deliver quality work. Tim was very mindful of my time frame and kept things moving on schedule. From foundation to completion, the construction took 5 months. I opened my new office the Monday after Thanksgiving and the holiday week and weekend prior to my opening they were there to help with anything I needed to be ready to open. I?ve hired these guys before and I knew just how good they are, but still, they went above and beyond my expectations. They paid attention to every detail and cared about the entire project as much as I did. They are true professionals and great people to deal with as well. The bulk of the work this company does is residential remodeling so this job was outside their normal project scope, but well within their scope of expertise. I don?t believe that there are many remodeling companies that would be capable of taking on a project as comprehensive as this. I couldn?t have made a better choice in hiring them both for the quality of their work and my comfort level in working with them. I receive compliments daily on my beautiful new building and people have been amazed at the speed of construction for such a well-built building.

On October 11, 2010, Greg Spivey came to our home to visit with us about converting our loft into a bedroom. He was professional and had a good grasp of what we wanted to accomplish. We asked for his professional opinion and he was able to provide us with some suggestions. When he was leaving our home; he said he expected to have a written estimate to us by the end of the week. As of October 31, 2010; we have yet to hear from Mr. Spivey or a company representative. We did send an email via his website asking when we would receive the estimate and we never received a response. We are disappointed we didn't receive an estimate or any other communication after his initial visit because we had pretty much agreed that he would be the one to do the work for us providing his estimate was within reason. Unfortunately we never received an estimate or any communication from Mr. Spivey. We have since chosen another contractor.
Description of Work: Work not performed since we never received an estimate for the work.

Work hasn't started yet, but I will tell you what I like about the process so far. Greg's work is complete and his responses are timely. He has spent 10 hours (over three meetings) with us and going over the specifications of the project. The design meets all of our needs. Greg was able to incorporate all aspects of the kitchen design like changes to lighting, electrical, and duct work. He had knowledge of the principles of construction in order to tell us what structural changes could be made without having to bring someone else in for a consult. This "one-stop-shopping" saved us the hassle of meeting with multiple vendors who would have handled different aspects of the project.
Description of Work: We have hired Greg Spivey to completely gut and rebuild our kitchen. In addition, he will be adding on to the room with a 12 ft. extension. The new design includes new cabinets, counters, floors, and an entirely new kitchen layout which Greg drew up for us.
Workman polite, knew what he was doing, did excellent work, cleaned up each evening. Quote was at least 20% less than competitors. Excellent.
Description of Work: Redid finished basement after sewer backup. Did various outside repairs on the house.

These guys are creative and the quality of their work is excellent. I happened upon this company years ago when I hired them for a master bath addition to my Broad Ripple home. With the outstanding job they did on my bathroom addition, I didn?t hesitate to contact them when I was looking to add a sunroom to my current house. They came up with a great design and provided drawings for submitting to my homeowners association. They really do a fantastic job to provide complete details of exactly what they will be building?no surprises. The sunroom is awesome and is the highlight of my house. The basement was next and went equally well. I have nothing but positive things to say about this company. Their quality and attention to detail in their craftsmanship and in all aspects of the job is unsurpassed and they have a great group of subcontractors who exhibit the same qualities.
Description of Work: They built a sunroom addition with a cathedral ceiling and finished my basement including a custom walk-through bookshelf.

We were happy with Greg Spivey and his staff from the beginning. When we started planning the project in late 2009, Greg made some very helpful suggestions on materials and design and those all turned out to be great ideas. The work was completed within the promised time frame and, while the work was going on, everyone involved in the project was completely professional and helpful. Attention to detail was apparent in all of the work. When questions or issues arose, it was easy to contact the right person and get a prompt answer. The finished kitchen is just as terrific as we hoped it would be. We would not hesitate to engage Greg's firm again for other remodeling projects.

Greg was a pleasure to talk to and did not make me feel as if our issues were insignificant even though they may have been small compared to some of his other jobs. We will definitely call him again and have already referred his company to others.
Description of Work: I called Greg Spivey Remodeling to have them come out and look at several issues we were having with our home, i.e., crack in ceiling and also grout issues around tub. Greg came out and looked at what we had and made suggestions. He offered info on how we could do it ourselves so we could save a little money. He also offered information on another item ( stair treads) that was not on the original list to look at.

We interviewed several contractors for this job and were immediately impressed with Greg Spivey and his staff. After hiring them, we knew from the first day on the job we had made the right choice. This was a major job that had the entire home tore up. I've been around a lot of construction in the past and these guys are a class act. Tim Steil, the construction manager was "johnny on the spot" nearly every day and made sure things were progressing as promised. He was easy to communicate with and kept us informed almost daily of what was in store next. He coordinated the work crews like a fine tuned watch. The crew they used, especially the carpenter named Tim were awesome and absolute perfectionists. We have 2 small Shitsu dogs that were in the home during most of the construction and Tim and the crew treated them like family. We ran into several unforseen problems during construction including some termite damage and problems with a sewer line but the Spivey crew handled these like true professionals and worked with us to solve any and all the issues. I was especially impressed when there appeared to be some issues with a load bearing wall that was going to require some additonal design but these guys found a solution that saved us not only space in our master bedroom but added design cost as well. The finished project is truely awesome. Friends and neighors comment that it looks like we have a brand new home. You can not tell this was a remodel. This project was a 4 month project that could easily have frayed the nerves of most anyone but Greg Spivey and his crew made it seem almost like fun. They were truely wonderful to work with and we would hire them again in a heart beat. Good job guys.

They came out to look over the project to give us an estimate. He told us he would get back to us in a week with an estimate. The drain pipe for the bathtub in our 1920's era house was rusting out. Access to replace and repair the plumbing was possible only by removing the tub. Tub removal in turn necessitated replacement of wall and floor tile. We obtained multiple estimates and went with Greg Spivey company because their price was lower and, most importantly, they were highly responsive, informative and considerate during the discussion and decision process and throughout the work period. Respected that we wanted to preserve the original style of the bathroom but at a reasonable price. Included us in decisions. Each day, they asked us if the proposed start time for the workers the next morning would be okay. Every single person was friendly, professional, easy to have around. We've had a lot of workers in and out over the years and these guys were stellar.

Client wanted a bunk room for his ten grand children. Nice people to work with.
Greg met with us to discuss the project and the vague ideas we had about the basement. We knew we wanted a "lodge" look, but were a little fuzzy on the details. Greg took our thoughts and, with CAD-wizard Thomas, created a possible plan for us. Using the computer, we were able to see a detailed presentation of their proposal for the basement(the finished product looks just like the design!). Carpenter Tim worked magic downstairs, putting up all of the curved siding and the flat board siding in the bathroom, building the 12' long bar, installing cabinetry, framing out the fireplace, etc. He came up with creative solutions, such as how to mount a flat-backed sconce on a round pole. We were very pleased with all of the subcontractors that worked on the project-electricians, plumber, dry wall guy, painters, stonemason, gas log installer, countertops, etc.-all were top-notch. We were kept informed along the way by frequent drop-ins from project manager Tim(also known as "Other Tim" or "Big Tim"). Any questions we had were promptly answered. The hardest part of the whole project was picking out the materials we wanted-which stone, which flooring, which cabinet knobs, which light fixtures, which countertop, etc. It's amazing how many decisions had to made for one room! We are thrilled with the results. The quality throughout is great. Greg Spivey and his team made a drab, unused room into a creative, enjoyable space.
Description of Work: Greg Spivey's excellent crew transformed our plain, ugly basement into a northwoods fishing lodge, complete with pine log siding, a tin roof, a ventless fireplace, a wet bar, cabinetry, laminate flooring, new lighting, and decorative peeled pine poles. In addition, a portion of a wall in our foyer was removed, opening up the staircase to the basement, making it an inviting space.

This was an excellent experience! Professional workmanship and excellent quality! I would hire them again for any project!Professional field supervision on the job and work site!
Description of Work: Greg Spivey Construction did a room addition on our home.
Wonderful, from beginning to end. Greg was very prompt in getting me an estimate and was able/willing to try and do everything I asked. I was given a detailed drawing and contract of what was to be done. The work started about 1 month later and lasted about a month which he had projected. First they covered the floors where the workmen would walk thru my house, and draped my furniture in plastic to prevent damage/dust. Then they started. I was worried that I would have large holes in the wall of my house when the windows were removed-making me vulnerable, but they got all ready and removed the two windows and made them into one in one day. The brick work looks like the original, the trim and walls look exactly as if they were original. The bookshelves took the longest, as they were custom made. The carpenter was very meticulous and detailed and they are beautiful. The painter was also very meticulous and careful of my carpet and furniture. Finally, the electricians are magicians, they put wires/lights into already finished areas of my house reaching through walls and ceiling, I don't know how they did it, except by magic. I was told they only do remodels, so they are experts. I added some electrical work during the project, they were happy to do this for me also. Everyone was courteous and professional. The whole project exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend them and definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: They removed two windows in my office and molded them into one central window in the wall. They built custom bookshelf/cabinets on each side of my fireplace. They did some electrical also-putting in an under-cabinet light, hanging a ceiling fan, adding electric plugs and hanging a pool table light it my finished basement.

This was an extensive project. Tim, Greg, Tim, Paul and Thomas did a great job for us. We made some changes along the way and they were so nice about it. Everything turned out to be beautiful! The master bath is stunning, with slate shower and floors. The cabinets were custom and perfect for the room! The sunroom has a cathedral ceiling and hardwood floors. The TV alcove was definitely what my husband needed for his new TV.

I HOPE MY OTHER CLIENTS WON'T BE MAD WHEN THEY READ THIS, BUT THIS MEMBER WAS THE BEST CLIENT THAT I HAVE WORKED WITH IN THE LAST TWENTY ONE YEARS. WE DID A 100,000 DOLLAR JOB IN TWO PHASES OF WORK THAT HAD HER FAMILY DISRUPTED FOR THREE MONTHS AND SHE NEVER CALLED WITH A COMPLAINT. IT IS UNHEARD OF IN THIS BUSINESS. I GIVE HERE A TRIPLE A RATING. I LOOK FORWARD TO ANY FUTURE PROJECTS.
We interviewed several contractors before choosing Greg Spivey's company. From the start, we could tell that he was really listening to our ideas and concerns. He made several excellent suggestions and impressed us with his attention to detail and honesty regarding all that the work would entail. He was not the cheapest contractor we interviewed, but generally in the ballpark of the better contractors. Believe us, you get what you pay for. Whenever we noticed something was not quite right (which was not often), they immediately addressed the problem. The job took a bit longer than we'd expected, partly due to the fact that we were out of town for several days. Another note, as we both work outside the home, it was very important that we could trust the workers that would be in our home during the daytime. We were perfectly comfortable with them having free access and never had any problems.
Description of Work: Greg Spivey's company enlarged the opening into our living room, and removed several walls (all load bearing), so that the stairwells to our upstairs and basement were opened up. The finished carpentry was outstanding, they matched the existing trim perfectly and added several very nice touches. The work also included repainting several rooms which was very nicely done. The results are spectacular and totally change the look and feel of our home.

THIS WAS A VERY CHALLENGING JOB, ALL THE WORK THE MEMBER TALKED ABOUT WAS PREFORMED OVER A FINISHED HARDWOOD FLOOR THAT WAS NOT TO BE REFINISHED, THE FLOOR STRETCHED THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE WALKING AREA OF THE FIRST FLOOR.WE SPENT THREE DAYS COVERING THE FLOORS AND PUTTING UP DUST WALLS. THE END RESULT WAS VERY DRAMATIC. THE PEOPLE WERE GREAT TO WORK WITH, I LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT PROJECT WITH THEM.

It went very well. They have a good network of people who work with them and for them. They are really personable people and easy to work with. They were very clean, professional, and accommodating. They were fairly easy to get a hold of and good about returning phone calls.
Description of Work: They took out part of the wall to widen the openings between rooms and put up new laminate support beams. They installed a sliding french door, three replacement windows, and two entirely new windows. They also subcontracted drywallers and electricians.
