I can't say enough good things about their work, or professionalism. The work was excellent, the attention to detail and responsiveness was excellent. They even remulched the areas they had stepped on during the chimney process. Gary Smalling cares about his work and his customer.

Gary Smalling contacted me personally and had a complete inspection and estimate prepared and delivered within 48 hours. He placed me on a work schedule which I was fine with but was able to pull the time in early which was great for me. The crew was punctual and courteous and completely poured a chimney cap, ground out the old grout and tuck pointed the stacks, Smalling recommended sealing off the ornamental stacks which the also performed to minimize future issues. They also replaced the top liners in four active flues as they were in sad shape. Lastly, they installed new metal chimney caps as well as all of the flashing which requires skill for stonework as opposed to brick. Cleanup was thorough and complete. The chimneys look fantastic and I could not be happier with the work. I recommend these guys highly as they definitely know their business! They have my future business for sure.

Gary and his crew were absolutely awesome!! Aside from the scaffolding and some equipment being there at the end of the work day you would never know they were here; the yard was so clean. They finished a head of schedule and the chimney looks absolutely AWESOME!!! Can't wait for the cooler weather to use it! Great group of guys!

The company was very prompt in responding to my inquiry. They were also quick to get me on their schedule and actually started a few days before my scheduled date. They tore down the old chimney and removed all of it away. Then they built a new chimney and it looks great. They matched the bricks perfectly and the workmanship was top notch. They placed a concrete top (ledge) on the chimney with a drip overhang on all sides. Something the old chimney was lacking. They also put a chimney cap on top of the flue to keep rain and critters out. The owner, Gary, called me and told me he could not complete the flashing around the chimney until I got a roofer to replace the shingles that had too much tar on them from years of patching. He said if the roofer preferred to do the flashing, then he would deduct the amount he was going to charge me for the flashing. As it turns out, that is what happened. I was also very pleased to hear the roofer tell me that the new chimney was very well done. He had real good things to say about it. I am very happy with my experience with this company.

He was honest about the work that needed to be done, was always on time to appointments, was able to complete the job in a very timely manner, and the chimney looks great! Great work and professionally executed. The fireplace works better and the area above the opening of the fireplace is sealed and the chimney and flu are drawing better. I intend to have the annual inspections completed by Smalling Masonry, along with a cleaning of the firebox and chimney.

Great job done by Smalling Masonry repairing my chimney. His quote was at least 30% less than the other larger companies I had estimate the job.

Gary and his crew were absolutely fantastic. I am selling my house and this work was a result of an inspection so it was time sensitive. I had become frustrated working down the list of providers and not hearing back from anyone so I gave Gary a call. Not only did he pick up the phone he came out for an estimate that night. His crew was out the next week. They were incredibly communicative because the weather was awful but they worked right through it. They were very nice and courteous. When they left after finishing the job I could not even tell they had been there they cleaned up so well. I would look no further with these guys. You can't go wrong.

Gary was excellent at communicating and was knowledgeable about the project. His crew was on time and did good work. When I discovered that a few spots had been missed Gary arranged to have his crew fix them and had us look together to make sure the job was complete. The communication was excellent. I am amazed at how much better the wall looks! A completely unrelated service provider was in our house a couple of weeks later and mentioned that the tuck pointing had been well done and had been done by people who knew what they were doing.

Gary is very personable and professional in his approach to the job and all appointments were kept as scheduled. I was very pleased with the work his crew did and the care they took in working around all the plants and bushes they had to contend with. Gary was unable to remain at the job site but called later in the day to assure I was pleased with the work and that there were no problems.

Mr. Smalling came out on a Saturday to give me an estimate for chimney removal. He also offered to coordinate with a roofer on my behalf to patch the rubber roof after the chimney was removed. None of the other companies I contacted offered to do this. They just told me I'd have to hire a roofing company to repair the roof as they could not do roof repairs - especially on a rubber roof. The estimate came in at $1350.00 including the roof repair. I called Mr. Smalling on Monday to schedule the repair and he scheduled the chimney demolition for the following Friday and the roof repair on Saturday morning. I arrived home from work on Friday afternoon to find that the entire job was done! There was no evidence that anyone had even been there except that the chimney was gone. No stray bricks, brick dust, junk etc. It was all cleaned up. Mr. Smalling came out Saturday evening and explained to me exactly what had been done and to make sure I was happy with the work. And even better - I received a $100 refund check in the mail this week because evidently the job came in under what he had quoted me! I am very happy with the service, the honesty, and the fact that he made the whole thing so easy for me. I will definitely call them for any needs I may have in the future.

I called Smalling Masonry for a small problem with the mortar in the brick facade of my house. Gary Smalling responded in several text messages and came by several days later to look at the problem. The repair job was very easy and he said he could repair the brick while he was there. Gary repaired the brick and charged a small fee for the job. Gary also inspected the rest of the brick for problems. I would use this business again if I have any issues involving his expertise.

From the initial contact, Gary was very responsive. He returned my phone calls and responded to emails very quickly and professionally. He showed up to do the work when he said he would be there and he completed all of the work ahead of schedule. The new hearth looks amazing! I am still amazed that they were able to do the work as quickly as they did! I am completely satisfied with the workmanship and the final results! I would highly recommend Smalling Masonry...in fact, they're coming back in the spring to do some additional chimney work for me.

I contacted Gary shortly before Christmas because we noticed a smoke smell in the house for days / weeks after having a fire in the fireplace. After doing my own research I thought it may have been caused by a draft and thought a top mount damper would fix it. I asked Gary for a quote and to my surprise was able to come out same day to inspect the chimney. He diagnosed us as having a moisture problem with the masonry causing the smell. He proposed caulking a few places where moisture may have been coming in and sealing the brick on the whole chimney. We had family coming in for Christmas so I asked him to get it done as quickly as possible. They came out the same week and completed the work. We noticed an improvement but the smell wasn't completely gone. Gary followed up with me and I told him I was concerned because the smell was still somewhat present. He came back again after the holidays when the weather was a little drier and sealed the brick again and made sure all the caulking was adequate. Overall very pleased with Gary and their work. They seemed fair with pricing and eager to make sure the job was done properly and up to our expectations. Will gladly work with Smalling Masonry for any future needs.

Gary Smalling came through in pinch. We needed to add a small step to our front porch prior to the house being sold, It was the last thing to be done. The weather was iffy, but Gary showed up at 8:00 am and confirmed my fears that it was too wet to proceed. He promised me he would find a window to do it later in the day as soon as the weather broke. He went back and completed the work about 5:00 when the weather cleared. I was so pleased and relieved. I highly recommend his company and will definitely use their services in the future.

Discovered Smalling Masonary while shopping for a fireplace insert installation and they came out for an estimate for some hearth modifications. They scheduled the insert install, estimated time needed, performed the install flawlessly. They pointed out the exterior of chimney needed some attention. I asked for a estimate of repair for the exterior and they provided it on the spot. I was impressed with the promptness, knowledge, attention to detail and time spent detailing the work to be performed. Work was scheduled and they were on time, reviewed the work with me before starting and exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Smalling Masonry and hire them again.
