Select Mechanical took my money and ran, never returning to fix anything. They did not show up for their scheduled follow up visit. After a week, they stated they had not received clearance from Home Warranty of America. However, HWA stated they had never even been contacted by Select Mechanical with a diagnosis or request for clearance to repair. I called Select Mechanical multiple times and spoke with their receptionist, who repeatedly said Jeff would call me by a given time, but he never did. When it became clear they would not be returning to do the work, I asked them to return my transformer. They must have lost it, because multiple times they promised they would return it to me by a certain time, but it never appeared. HWA threatened to fine them for my transformer and my $65 copay and cancel their contract, but that did not make a difference. Eventually they stopped answering the phone when I called and would not call me back. They did the same thing to the HWA rep. It was really insane. We just could not believe it. HWA made it right, and sent 2 other companies out to take care of it all for us, but it all ended up taking much longer than it should have.
Description of Work: Select Mechanical was sent by Home Warranty of America to diagnose and fix problems with the security system, smoke alarms and plumbing in a newly purchased home. I paid them the $65 copay. The tech looked at everything, fixed nothing, and said he'd have to come back with the proper parts to do the repairs another day. He was supposed to call HWA immediately to report his findings and get the OK for repair, but failed to do so. He took our alarm system transformer, which plugs into the outlet, to be sure he had the right match for replacement. I hesitated at this since we wouldn't be able to turn on our security system without it. He reassured me he would return and replace it promptly. Also, our 4 smoke detectors weren't working due to a short in the wiring, which was, in itself, an ironic fire hazard. Finally, we had 4 leaky toilets and 1 leaky sink. Our main floor toilet was turned off, awaiting repair, necessitating a trip up the stairs with a potty-training boy whenever nature called. Needless to say, we were eager to have these fixed.

UPON REVIEWING THIS ACCOUNT, WE HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT OUR MANAGER AND HWA HAD SEVERAL MIS-COMMUNICATIONS. FOR THIS WE DO APOLOGIZE. CURRENTLY WE DO NOT PARTNER WITH HWA BECAUSE OF SITUATIONS SUCH AS THIS. AT SELECT MECHANICAL WE DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO PLEASE OUR CUSTOMERS. WE ARE COMMITTED TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IN ALL OF OUR HEATING AND COOLING JOBS, UNFORTUNATELY HWA SENT US A JOB THAT WAS NOT HEATING AND COOLING AND OUR MANAGER, AS A FAVOR TO HWA, ACCEPTED. WE TRIED TO HANDLE THIS JOB WITH THE UTMOST OF PROFESSIONALISM. AT SOME POINT THE BALL WAS DROPPED HOWEVER. WE HAVE NO WAY OF DETERMINING HOW OR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WE HAVE MADE SOME ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES TO HELP INSURE THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. WE WOULD WELCOME THE OPPORTUNITY TO REMEDY, WITHIN OUR CAPABILITIES, THE UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE THE MEMBER HAD WITH OUR COMPANY. WE WOULD, HOWEVER, LIKE TO REMIND THE MEMBER THAT WE ARE A HEATING AND COOLING COMPANY AND ANY PAST MISREPRESENTATIONS BY HWA OR OUR FORMER MANAGER SHOULD NOT APPLY TO THE QUALITY WE OFFER TODAY. WE STAND BY THE QUALITY OF OUR WORK, AND DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO REMEDY SITUATIONS AS THEY ARISE.

Since the home warranty company told us we had to use whoever they gave us I searched on Angie's List about this company. The reviews that I read were not positive so I was a little worried. The water heating is working (installed today) and from what I could tell they did a good job. Hopefully things will stay that way.
Description of Work: We just moved into our home 6 months ago and our water heater just went out. We called our home warranty company (First American Homebuyers Insurance) and they said Airtech Commercial (Select Mechanical is actually who came out) could come out the same day to see what the problem was. Jeff came out and diagnosed the problem, our inner tank had rusted and corroded and was now leaking, he also said the thermocoupler was bad. He called our insurance company and they told him to go ahead and replace it. They had to order a new water heater and it would be ready the next day. While Jeff was there he answered several questions I had about my water softener, humidifier, furnace and air filter. So the next day James (different tech) came out, uninstalled the faulty water heater and replaced it with the new one. He answered all of my questions. The company mostly does heating and cooling systems but from what I could tell they did a good job with the installation.
